Day -1
#1 of Days
Just before the beginning.
Holidays, the best thing a student could dream of. I had postponed my last year of university and had used all my money I had saved up to do a backpacking tour of the world, and it was going great!
Had started with Italy, then hiked through to France, I had a broad visa so the border was no problems, and was getting a lift through to Paris with a nice couple....
"So, you speak only English or any other languages?" The man, Paul-Henri, asked.
"A few, but none very well, enough to ask directions and order a beer and that's about it." I replied conversationally, a free ride was a free ride, a little conversation was a small price.
"By the accent I am guessing you are Australian? Oui?" The woman, who had been introduced as Marie-Élise enquired.
"Yeah, the drawl gave me away? Am on a holiday doing the whole 'backpacking' thing, trying to expand my world a little before I settle into my final year of engineering at university." I supplied, giving them plenty more openings for conversation, it passed the time after all, and these people knew their way around well enough to point out places of interest every now and again.
It was then that the man started yelling in French and the car began to swerve all over the road, narrowly missing a light truck coming the opposite direction. Seconds later we were on the roof in a ditch on the side of the road.
"Are you ok?" I called to the couple, trying to get my bearing I looked to the front seat, which was empty.
"'the fuc-" I had just gotten out before a short muzzled gun, a pistol likely, was pointed in the window beside me and a soft -phut- came from it, after that things got a little hazy.
The first few chapters will be tame humans only, it will start getting furry eventually, if this is a problem for a mod, let me know.
