The Slime at Sea

(Possible Prologue?)

For Kacacarrotcake

By Draconicon

"And that puts you to sleep, little guy," Ailsa said as the cryogenic treatment overtook the transparent shell that housed Project 37. She waited for the frost to completely cover the container and stop actively spreading before laying a gloved hand on it. "Sleep well, try not to dream."

Inasmuch as the gooey things could dream. The SliSol 'Projects' were hardly the sort of thing that she understood as well as some of the project leads, considering that her work mostly consisted of their general maintenance, care, and...well, to be honest, more or less being a janitor to the wellbeing of their containers. It was a step above the menial labor, though, and she had a chance to learn a great deal from those that were in the loop in the process.

She tapped a button on the console in front of her. As the same mechanical arm that had taken Projects 1-36 to their holding cells came down to take number 37 away, she watched it go with a small sigh.

I'm getting too attached to these things, aren't I?

The intercom buzzed. The now-familiar warning that a hurricane was on the way came through in the same too-calm feminine voice that had once sounded charming, but now sounded little more than smarmy. Ailsa let it roll past without paying much attention. The hurricane was still a good twelve hours out, and there was a helicopter coming to get her - and the other experiments that couldn't be put into hibernation - in three. She had time. She had more than enough time.

Ailsa looked at the line of other vats and containers that still needed to be put into hibernation. Most everything else had already been taken care of, but the various SliSol Projects - the experiments that were named after the company for their massive importance to it - waited. Numbers 38 all the way up to 101 were waiting, and while each one only took a minute or two, that was a lot.

She walked over to the next one, the lab coat that she was only allowed as a vanity flicking against her heels as she walked across the room. Underneath it, she wore her usual outfit: a t-shirt, simple boots, and a pair of jeans. It wasn't the sort of work outfit that most of the scientists in the company wore, but, well, she wasn't allowed to be one of them, not on the same level, so she didn't bother with the same formality.

"Alright, 38. You ready for your nap?" she asked, white-black hair falling over her face before she tucked it back again. "Come on. You know it's me."

The black blob inside the canister held back, even though she knew it could hear her voice. She shook her head, looking at her reflection. It was a reminder of being one of only two people on the off-shore lab of Asian descent, and if it hadn't been for the fact that a project lead had the same heritage, she might have wondered if that had something to do with her position in the company. She let it pass, tapping the glass gently.

"Come on, 38. It's me, Ailsa."

The bubbling ooze went still, only to slowly extend two tendrils against the transparent cylinder's surface. It spread out, flattening, copying the shape of her hand. Another tendril came out, this one sporting a vague copy of an eye, and it looked at her. Or at least, it seemed to; she didn't know if the Projects could actually see or not, but it always seemed to recognize her, so she assumed that they could.

"There you are. Doing okay, 38?"

It bobbed its eye up and down, as if answering. She chose to believe that it was. Chuckling, she patted the hand copy on the other side of the glass, lifting it up and carrying the cylinder with her.

"Alright. Time for you to get a good nap. Don't want you disturbed by the hurricane when it blows in."

Even if there had been contradictory orders to get rid of this one.

Project 38 was one of those that was on the borderline between functional and dysfunctional. On the one hand, it was capable, just like all the other Projects, of completely attaching to a host and upgrading their bodies. That was how they had sold the whole thing to the US, after all; they were meant to make the soldiers better, stronger, faster.

Of course, that was only part of the pitch, the one that the grunts would hear. The rest of it was more...sinister. Each Project would be capable of overwhelming the wearer's nervous system, completely taking control of them and giving that control to a SliSol-trained technician miles from the battlefield. The actual armor that the Project offered would be sufficient to keep a soldier alive through just about anything save for a nuclear blast, but it would be up to the technician to make good calls about what was done with the host body while it was in service. Essentially, it would ensure that the army did what it was supposed to do while not leaving everyone scared about the lack of culpability that drone strikes had.

It was better than nothing, at least. And it would keep the soldiers safe on the battlefield.

The issue with 38 was that, unlike the others, it had a transmitter in its make-up rather than just a receiver, and there had been several issues of it sending 'commands' to some of the other Projects during tests. Nothing that extreme, as far as security risks went, but far enough that some of the higher-ups were concerned that it might get out of hand in the field.

So far, the board was split. The decision was in her hands, and Ailsa wanted to let the little thing live a little bit longer.

Setting the cylinder in the resting slot for the hibernation treatment, she patted it one more time. It reached out, rubbing the spot she touched, and the scientist shook her head.

"Definitely getting too close to you guys..."

It wasn't the first time that she had attached to the creatures in the lab. In the old pharma job that she used to have, she had been overly attached to the rats and mice that they tested things on, and had taken more than a few of them home with her. Then there'd been the job at the vet, where she had been all too keen on spending too many hours after work ensuring that they got some attention and love when they were all alone. The animals had always meant as much to her as the science, and it was hard to shake that.

But the Projects were something else, something more than that. They were...they were more alive, more intelligent...and capable of things that animals were not.

She couldn't help but stare at 38 through the glass as it changed shape, becoming a mini-her in the tube. It leaned against the glass, looking at her, staring at her. There was no denying that there was some awareness behind those eyes, as much as the other scientists disparaged the fact. Despite being 'drones,' something that the board could control, there was something else going on in there.

And they were capable of making choices, even without direction. She'd seen the tapes. The hosts that had tried on the Projects had been transformed. Not just given armor and left blackened and empowered by the SliSol suits, but made into something else. One had become a massive dog-man, lumbering and powerful with large jaws and strong teeth, while another had become a winged dragon-man. It was impossible to understand how they got those images or the capability to do that, and the hosts always said that there was something that they remembered from it, but it was impossible to get a clear story.

After all, part of the attraction of the Projects was that, by wearing them, most of the host's memory of what they did was taken from them. The Projects were the only ones that knew anything, and they weren't telling.

She put it out of her mind. She didn't want to start going down that road of fantasy again. Not when there was no real reward at the end of it.

Not when she knew she'd have to come back to the reality of her own body being such a disappointment again.

She rested her hand on the cylinder, shaking her head.

"Don't worry. Just going to take a little nap. Next thing you know, it'll be over, and you'll be awake and ready for more testing. Promise."

38's mouth moved. She didn't know what it said - the cylinder didn't let any sound waves through, and she imagined that it felt and understood her through her vibrations more than the vocal tones - but she wondered what it might be trying to say.

The intercom reminded her of the hurricane again, and she sighed, stepping back from the cylinder. Time to submerge it and get back to work. She reached for the button -

CRACK!

Something snapped in the ceiling. By the time she whipped her head around, the halogen tube had already come loose and was swinging for her head. Ailsa barely managed to tilt herself out of the way before it came down with a harsh crack against the side of her head. She fell to the floor, already on her way to unconsciousness as a second crack followed.

She wondered what it was, ever so briefly, before the darkness claimed her.

#

Awareness came without light, and she groaned under her breath. Had the tube hit her so hard that she'd gone -

No, no, she wasn't blind. The momentary panic abated as she saw some light out of the corner of her eye. Something must have fallen on her enough to block out the light. That fear taken care of, she took a few deep breaths, forcing herself to think clearly and carefully, trying not to panic any further than she had to.

What happened?

She remembered a crack, a jostling feeling under her feet. Maybe part of the stormfront had hit the station sooner than the weather had been projecting. Probably some of the waves that were coming from the storm further out, she supposed, hitting the pylons before the reinforcers had been activated. She'd have to take care of that before the helicopter arrived.

Helicopter.

The Projects.

Right.

Ailsa groaned, reaching up to her face to try and push whatever had fallen on her out of the way. She expected some debris, so she moved carefully to not slash her face. She expected something sharp, something broken.

What she found...was goo.

Her hand froze as it slid into slime, feeling it spreading where it touched. Her eyes went wide, but there was no more light than there had been before. Her breathing kicked into high gear as she realized what it might be.

"Oh god...oh - mmph!"

The slime slid into her mouth, and it tasted of nothing. Nothing but rubber, or latex, without taste of anything but raw chemicals. More than that, it spread, holding her mouth open in a wide 'O' shape, even as more of it spilled over her lips and across her chin.

"MMMPH! MMPH!"

She sat up, her hand all but glued to her cheek as she fumbled around with the other one. Something, somewhere -

She caught hold of a console surface and used it to pull herself to her feet. She tilted her head back, looking through the gap at the bottom of her vision. The canister that had held 38 was broken, shards scattered everywhere, and she -

She caught sight of her reflection. The black ooze spread across her face, almost covering her completely, and it showed her in stark relief, almost as if it had been painted on rather than slithering over her. As it spread, it dripped down to her shoulders, her chest, and where it touched, her clothing started to melt. It hissed in contact with the black ooze, disappearing and exposing more and more of her flesh to the open air.

"Ah...nnngh...mmmph..."

She couldn't speak past the gag in her mouth, but the slime still responded. She felt tubes around her ears, something pushing and probing, then -

"NNNGH!"

It pushed past her ears, down the tubes all the way to her brain. It felt like it was digging inside of her skull, the sheer fullness and slickness of it filling her with deafening squelches and other slippery sounds. She could hear nothing, not even herself, until -

Friend.

The voice was quiet, almost childish, except that it was deeper than that. Deeper and louder and more powerful than she expected. It left her stumbling back, her free hand barely catching her on a work table behind her.

Friend.

"Nngh...gah...goh..."

She couldn't talk. It, however, could.

Friend. Think.

What...are...you...doing?

Fixing...helping.

Why...what...

Hurt. Want better. Make better.

Make - oh. Oh, god.

She turned to the nearest reflective material, tilting her head back. Even as the black ooze was already sliding down over her neck, sliding down her body and along her shoulders and back, over her chest as her breasts were bared and exposed to the lab air, she could feel something changing. Her head, her lips, her chin were pulling forward, narrowing, her nose following along to create some sort of strange snout that didn't quite fit her. And yet...yet...

This you.

This was not her, but at the same time, it was. It was an image that she'd had drawn a long time ago before professional life got the best of her. She stared at the slow-forming point of her face, how it pulled out, how her cheeks and her ears were slid backward, forming into horns on either side of her face, curling down and in to create different shapes. Horned shapes that were almost like a finned-hood on either side of her face.

Oh...my...god...

Friend. You...okay?

I don't know...what...what...

Hurt. Fixing. Hurt head. Hurt body. Fixing.

How bad had the tube hit her? She thought she'd gotten out of the way, but -

Her vision blanked out as the ooze finally covered her other eye, but the darkness faded with a memory-sight. She was seeing as if through a fish-eye lens, watching as...as she fell to the ground. She saw what 38 had been seeing, she realized, and watched as the ooze crawled out of the tube that it had been kept in. She couldn't tell what it was thinking, but she could see the injury on her head.

It was more than just a glancing hit. The tube had sliced from her temple back to her ear, and there'd been more blood than she'd realized coming out. It had...

It covered her.

38 had covered the wound and stopped it from bleeding out. And even now, she could feel it delving deeper and deeper into her.

The vision from the past faded, replaced with a view of herself in the present. The ooze from 38's body had completely removed her clothing, leaving her with nothing but black from her head to her breasts. And...

And they were bigger, too. She stared as she realized that her breasts were at least double their previous size, swollen and full and firm. She reached up without thinking, one hand dark with the black ooze and the other not, and touched them.

The pleasure that came from that simple enough nearly took her to her knees. She'd known that the Projects could affect one's sense of touch, but this was completely beyond the bounds of anything that they'd observed before. The last time that she'd seen them get to work, she'd seen one subject get lost in pleasurable abandon, but everyone had assumed that was just the Project experimenting with new anatomy.

This wasn't that. This was all her, and...

Help friend. Help feel good.

It was trying to keep her thoughts off the constant pain that would have been coming from her head and everywhere else. Give her good feelings about what was happening to her rather than letting her feel bad about all that had happened. She stared through the rubbery, gooey eyes that she now had, and watched as her breasts filled just a trifle more, and realized that they were shaping themselves exactly to that art that she had commissioned so long ago.

Every change felt like it should come with some bone-crushing pain, considering what was happening. Her face had been rearranged, molded like clay, but nothing had ached, nothing had hurt. As 38 settled into her, finding place after place, orifice after orifice, pore after pore to slide into, it was changing her skin and flesh and tissue to something else. Something that was suitable for different shapes, and something - she belatedly realized - that would make her very inhuman in very short order.

And yet, as it spread down her back, following the small tail that was emerging from the base of her spine and along her stomach towards her sex, there was a part of her that welcomed it. Even aside from the fear that still lingered at the back of her mind - a fear that the Project was doing its best to help with - she felt something else. There was...there was a euphoria to the feeling of changing, of getting this thing that she had wanted for longer than she realized.

It had just never been possible. Not until now.

Her legs shook as she stumbled against the nearby table, leaning over it as her tail grew slightly longer, the nub becoming a little flare out over her rump before the rest of the tail went longer. The stinger, the long stinger that was part of the species, continued to flow outward, even as the black ooze spread around her hips, making them thicker and rounder, enhancing her femininity further.

As her sex started to drip, a pleasure rising down there as well as a need, she could feel 38's confusion. She shook her head, trying to speak, and this time, her mouth worked with her.

"It's...it's good."

This...good? Not hurt?

"Very good."

Oh. More!

Before she could protest, 38 surged down her body, the black ooze covering her pussy and diving in. She screamed as her slickness was doubled, tripled, leaving her pussy a waterfall between her legs as her pleasure was ramped up and spiked to the nth degree.

"AAAAAH!"

She screamed at the top of her lungs, falling to her knees as she came, came, and came again, rapid orgasms spiking from sudden inflammation to her g-spot, to her clit, both of them throbbing from the combined assault on both of them at once. She couldn't stop cumming, her body shaking from head to toe as the other parts of the image were forced on her.

Not just a bigger ass, or a wetter pussy. Not just sensitivity that went beyond anything that a human mind was capable of processing - something that she was barely aware of, something that 38 was holding for her - but something else. Something bigger...something feral...something masculine.

With all her curves, she knew that would stand out like a sore thumb, but despite that, there was that deeper part of her that wanted it, and wanted it badly. She could feel her cocks coming in, a pair of them pushing through the black ooze just over her pussy. The image had them purple or pink, depending on which screen she'd been using, but this...

This was black.

Black as the ooze.

Black as she had become.

The pair of dicks got bigger and bigger the more that she stared at them. They stared humanoid, but changed rapidly, becoming something more bestial. Long, pointed, slender, and yet, with a hint of flexibility to them both. They twisted and writhed as she lowered her hand between them, feeling them caressing her fingers as if they were half-alive themselves, as if they were as curious as she was.

And that was almost enough to make her cum her brains out right then and there. Nearly, nearly.

As she sat there on her knees, the black ooze continued down her legs, over her calves and down to her feet. They shifted, pulling up and popping quietly as the bones were molded into a different configuration. No more flat feet for her, just this feeling of being...being different, all the balance being shoved to the ball of her foot, some of her toes melding together, everything being taken from human to...to something else. Almost paw-like, were it not for the webbing she could feel forming between her toes.

Fuck...fuck...

Is okay?

Intense...hard to...handle...

Fall in?

She was given an image, something in the very back of her head. Unlike the fish-eye lens from before, or the way that she was seeing now - as if through darkened vision, or sunglasses - she saw nothing. It was utter black, a hole, an emptiness that could never entirely be filled, and yet, there were things in it. She could feel them, thoughts and flickers of awareness that were like 38, but less developed, less intense, further apart...

And yet, networked.

Networked like the way that the scientists had put together the control boards for the various Projects. They were there, all there, connected to each other on their own. And 38 was the one that connected them.

Holy...

Fall in?

No...no...

She shook her head. Not yet, at the very least. If she fell in there now, as overwhelmed as she was, she wasn't sure that she could ever get out of that hive mind again. There was too much there, and her body was too overwhelming. It was...she was...

She was Ailsa.

She had to remember that. She was Ailsa, a human being under all this, even if she had been changed to a different species by 38. He was part of her -

He. Oh, that was new. That was very new. They had always been ungendered before, creatures that just sort of existed in the vague idea of a thing, or like a pet that someone else owned at the very most. Now...now they were identifying, and she could feel that 38 felt himself to be very male as he was wrapped around her, all but integrated into her.

Rather than staying in her head, though, she felt him going...down. Down, to the space between her legs. For a moment, she thought he was going to find his way into her pussy or her new, larger ass, but no. Instead, he went for her cocks, and -

"Ah!"

She gasped for breath as they started twisting, writhing about, slithering against each other until even they were all but overwhelmed by the stimulation. They stopped, pulling further apart, and Ailsa had the chance to catch her breath.

"Oh god...oooooh god..."

Slowly turning, keeping one hand on the work table at all times, she gradually managed to turn toward the other reflective cylinders. The other Projects had formed eyes, watching her through the glass, and she could almost see herself if she looked back at the void in the back of her head. She shook her head, pushing that mental image out of her mind and focusing instead on what she looked like now.

Gone were the old human features. The only thing that remained was a smaller height - maybe five-foot-two - but that was mitigated by the sheer amount of curves she had. Her hips were wide, flared out like some breeding matron that had gone through litter after litter of childbirth, and she had the breasts to go with it. The inky-black surface of her flesh looked all the wetter as a result, and she shivered.

Her body could have been lithe and lean at one point, she supposed, but that had softened with this one. Thick, rounded, curvy in the best of luscious ways, she looked different. Breedable.

Or studdable.

She could feel her cocks throbbing still, all the pleasure in them begging for some extra touches. She had never imagined that they would be so intense, or that they would hit her as hard as they were.

As she shivered from head to toe, the intercom went off again.

"Warning. The hurricane will arrive in ten hours. Please ensure that you're clear as soon as possible. The next helicopter out will arrive in one hour."

So, she'd been out for a while. Quite a while, considering she'd had twelve hours and now only had ten.

That calm realization was immediately overtaken with the realization that she had an hour to figure out how the hell she was going to get off the rig while still keeping the situation a secret from those on the chopper. She didn't even know if she could get 38 off of her, not after he'd integrated to the extent he had. Even the idea of pulling him off felt wrong now, and she didn't know if that was him, her, or some combination of the two.

But one thing was for sure. She needed to get off the rig before the main body of the hurricane hit, and she needed to get ready for that. Fast.

There more?

"Much more," Ailsa muttered, looking around for a space lab coat. "And they'll have questions. A lot of questions."

Bad?

"Oh, yeah."

The void in the back of her head seemed to sparkle for a moment, and suddenly, all the canisters that were yet to be put into hibernation...shattered.

The new goo-stingray blinked as she turned toward the collection of 39 to 101, watching as the various SliSol Projects dragged themselves from their restraints and containers, pooling together, then apart, then together again, dragging themselves toward her bit by bit until they were gathered at her feet.

She could hardly believe it. They had never been contained; they'd merely been waiting, gathering themselves, waiting for a reason for things. And 38 had just given them the reason that they needed.

Others, wait, sleep. We? With you.

And with sixty-two of the blobs, there would be more than enough to completely overwhelm the chopper when it came back...and enough to sell a fake story to those that the chopper eventually reached. A side trip, possibly while the black box for the chopper itself was removed, was certainly possible...

I'm going on the run, she realized. This...this...

And yet, for all that it was throwing her previous life away, she realized that there was something about it that felt good. Maybe it was just adrenaline, or the feeling of happiness and freedom bleeding from the hive mind in the back of her head, but she felt...good. Good about striking out on her own. Good about heading into the wide world. Good about letting the various Projects go...

Or stay.

Stay with her.

She could feel that bleeding out of the hole, and realized that the more she thought about them, the closer she came to falling in. Ailsa pulled herself back from that nightmare as fast as she could. As much as she cared for them, she needed to stay herself, as herself. None of that for now.

Not yet.

But maybe...

Maybe later. When she was safe. Maybe.

The End
