#8 of Promise

A cold wind blew eerily among the wrecked hallways. The colors had faded, burnt black and the world was dark. It was cold and the sky was dark, enshrouded in dark clouds and time appeared to be frozen still. The Grand Hall, the entrance to the Academy, lay in ruins, falling apart from rotting foundations and destroyed beauty.

All alone, lost and cold, the boy stood quietly in the center of it all, surrounded by the dark world that imprisoned him. His hope was fading and despair enslaved him to a mortal coil. He was stranded in his isolation.

"...I'm sorry..." He muttured to himself, gripping his paws into fists. He watched the fading doors, the large wooded doors that had been burnt but miraculously still standing. A war seemed to have ravaged the one time sanctuary and now, he was the only one left...

The boy approached and pushed on the door, slowly opening it to enter the unkown. The boy sighed quietly, "...I promise...I'll save you...I promise..." The door creaked open and he found himself escaping from it all...

"...Dez...Dez...Hey, Desho!"

"...I was there on the day, they sold the cause for the queen..." Echoed a singer's voice...

A punch hard enough to awaken someone out of a coma landed on the shoulder of the snoozing feline.

"Hey, Emo Kitty! Take off your headphones!" Growled the voice.

With a struggle to match all struggles, the cat slowly opened his bright blue eyes. The world slowly came into focus , as if it were trying to emphasize an annoyingly dramatic effect.

"...I hate the ending myself, but it started with an alright scene..."

"Rise and shine, class is over!" The voice originated from the cat's right side, in a seat directly next to him. "Come on, Desho! Wake up! You're an Incubus, you shouldn't need to sleep anyways."

The cat incubus sighed and readjusted himself so he was sitting straight. He removed his headphones, shook his head, quietly sat and allowed the world to clear up. In his head, he ran a makeshift mental check list. "Time of day: Sometime around noon, as evident by the high sun and the slightly chilly wind. Present location: Sitting in a classroom with open windows; sleeping through a lesson that was something about chariots being powered by a dual gryphon-power engines; otherwise known as a large chariot being pulled along by two flying gryhons, A subject I don't really care for..."

Another punch hit his shoulder...in the exact same spot as before. "Hey, Furrea to Desho, respond!"

"...Source of torment: my friend, Rath, who is far too impatient to understand the laziness of a cat awakening from his afternoon nap." Desho, the cat, sighed again and rubbed his throbbing shoulder.

His body was covered in a lustrous black coat of fur and the hair on his head was black as well. His wings on his back and head; the proof of his Cubi heritage, were also black but had white tips. His rubbed his bright blue eyes and he stretched, his paws and wings waving cheerfully in the air. He re-adjusted his loose, short-sleeved, white button up shirt and then glanced to his seat-mate.

Rath, a red lizard incubus from the Owona Clan and the scars to prove his violent heritage, glared at Desho with his glowing green eyes, a trademark of the Owona.

The Owona clan is known for their hand-to-hand fighting prowess and Rath was no exception, sporting many scars on his knuckles and arms. He wore a black tank-top, despite the cold weather; he was clearly very proud of his scars that lined even to his shoulders. The feathered wings that portruded out his back and head were colored red with light red tips.

This coloring has inadvertantly caused him to be a subject of ridicule as 'light-ish red' is also known as 'pink'; this was most likely the main reason he learned to fight so well, Desho thought.

Desho had only known this lizard for a short time but they've found themselves to be good friends, ever since they both arrived at the Academy a month before. Although Rath was a little rough around the edges, Desho knew he always meant well.

A grin cracked on Rath's scaly lips, he chuckled. "Heh, it lives..." He said in a mock-spooky tone, waving his hands in Desho's face. "Anyways, let's go on break." He stood tall cracking his knuckles and stretching his fit body. "Ugh, what a boring lesson, I'm not gonna be some mechanic so why bother..."

Desho rubbed his chin and nodded his head. He joined his friend and grabbed his bag, holding it over his shoulder.

Together, the two headed to the courtyard. From the Academy entrance a stone pathway led to circle a statue of a famous Succubus heroine from an ancient war. The pathway continued through a garden of trees, cherry blossoms that had yet to bloom. It was early spring in this region and the high noon sun blinded Desho momentrily, it would be a beautiful day if Desho didn't vastly prefer rain.

The whole courtyard was just merely the front of the large victorian bulding that was SAIA, Succubus And Incubus Academy, Desho's current home where he was set to pursue his personal abilities. He didn't care much for academic prowess but it was someplace safe and that's all that mattered.

Many other Cubi sat around and passed the break time amongst themselves, the Academy Congregation was filled with quite a varied group of individuals. Desho was still a new student, having only been here for a month so he and Rath was still 'the new guys', yet to find a clique of their own.

"Desho...I'm gonna head to the office, I'll see ya later ok?" The lizard nodded to the cat, who nodded back. Rath then ran off inside the building, leaving the cat alone.

The cat wandered aimlessly in the courtyard, his gaze quickly traveling among the various students. He thought to himself how he could practice his...Incubus Skills as a way to get started. He smirked and his gaze searched for a particular person, a depressed person sitting alone by the statue.

After a minute or so, his heart skipped a beat when he spotted a lonely girl about his age. He recognized her, he had noticed her the first day he arrived at the Academy becuase, plainly put, he thought she was really cute.

She was a feline girl with white fur and golden blonde hair with blue eyes. Her quadruple wings, two on her back and her head, perfect for a Succubus, were as yellow as her hair and their tips adorned white feathers. She was wearing a white sundress and round sandals on her round foot-paws. To Desho, she reminded him of an angel.

She looked quite lonely so Desho thought that he could finally talk to her instead of watching from a distance like he had been, if anything for the apparent sadness obviously emanating from her. He hungered for that negative emotion so if he couldn't make a friend, he could at least leech some sadness from her. He slowly approached her...

"Hi there!" Desho stood in front of her with a grin. The girl looked up to him with look of wonderment.

"Oh, Hi..." She muttered.

"Mind if I sit?" Desho motioned to the ledge at her side.

She smiled, "Sure, go ahead." She kept her gaze on him.

The dark cat sat beside her and crossed his legs, he smirked at her, "So what's your name? I'm Desho."

Holding her smile, she said "I'm...Faye..." She looked away quietly.

"Well then, Hello Faye," Desho rubbed his hair and kept his grin. "That's right Desho, keep at it..." He thought. "Is something wrong Faye?"

She looked back at him, "Oh it's nothing, It's just that people don't really talk to me often so I'm a little unsure of what to say."

"Bingo..." Desho shook with giddiness, "So, what's that like? Not having people talk to you?" He spoke calmly.

She titled her head with a confused glance, "What do you mean?"

"Crap, wrong question, she's slipping. Quick Desho, think of something or you're gonna lose her..." Desho shook his head, "I-I mean, I'm new here so I...I get kinda lonely too..."

Faye grinned and nodded her head slowly, "Are you trying to make me sad, Desho?" She giggled.

"Eh...um..." Desho looked away quickly "Damn, she guessed me..." He looked back to her, "O-Of course not, why would I do that?" He grinned stupidly.

"Becuase You're a Seme Clan Incubus. The emotion, Despair, represents you so making me sad would let you absorb those emotions and give you energy." She answered with such confidence that Desho was blown away, "Oh don't look so surprised, Desho; your Clan Symbol gives you away."

Desho scratched his head and he was blushing, "Oh...you noticed." He thought of his blue eyes, whenever he was up to something magical, like absorbing emotions, his clan mark would glow yellow in his eyes "Was she looking into my eyes? Nah she must have picked up on it..."

"That's really amazing though, I can't believe you have a clan mark in both of your eyes." Faye mewed curiosly.

"Dammit!" Decho bit his lip, "If she's been looking into my eyes, does she think I'm cute? No way..."

Faye giggled sweetly, "I think it's really cute."

"Dammit, Dammit!" Desho huffed and sat up straight and turned to her, unaware of his deep blush, "W-Well, It's n-not really two. My left eye is j-just a reflection of the r-right, I a-actually only have one and I didn't mean to-"

Fave playfully pushed his shoulder, "Relax, Desho. I'm not mad, I'm actually flattered by the notion."

Desho sighed, "Well...alright then..."

"You're still new so you'll get the hang of it." Faye rubbed her forehead and crossed her legs, she grinned a kitty grin, "I saw you the day you arrived here with your friend, that red lizard from the Owona Clan."

Desho raised an eyebrow, "Oh yeah? I saw you too." He rubbed his chin and sniffed arrogantly, trying to show off, "Did I make a good entrance?" He asked cheerfully.

"Um...Sort of." She giggled again, Desho was beginning to find it cute, "Everyone thought you were a girl though..."

Desho gasped with his jaw on the ground, "Ouch..." He held his knees and slumped wearily.

Faye held his shoulder, "Oh don't worry, I think it's pretty cute."

Suddenly, a loud bell rang at the top of the entrance hall door, break was over. All the Cubi sitting around in the courtyard all rose to their feet and traveled en mass to the their respective classes.

"Oh hey, It's time to go." Faye stood, holding two textbooks to her chest. "Desho?" The sullen cat looked up to her. "I hope we can talk again soon." She smiled, waved, then left for her next class.

The morose cat frowned and pouted silently.

"Wow...She really put you in your place."

Desho raised his ears for a brief second before he frowned at the recognition of the voice, "Rath...How long have you been there?"

With a slight ruffle, a red lizard climbed out of a bush behind the cat. He sat and crossed his arms with a 'needs-to-be-punched' smirk on his scaly lips, "Somewhere around the time she was talking about your pretty eyes." He snickered at the cat, "So, think you'll be able to fix your gender identity problem soon?"

"Oh shut it..." Desho scratched his chin, "Things...didn't go as planned but at least I talked to her at all."

"That's true." Rath nodded, "She's pretty cute though, quite the succubus... You going for her?"

"W-What? I-uh...." Desho blushed again, "I...don't know..." In his head, Desho found himself quite curious about her...attracted even, "I didn't think I could put on a good show but she read me perfectly...I wonder what clan she's from or if she was trying to get some emotions out of me for herself... I can't wait to talk to her again..."

"Why not? You two are perfect for each other." The lizard leaned forward with a calm smile.

"...Well...She is pretty...cute" The cat muttured regrettably.

"Awesome!" Rath stood and stretched, "I can hear the wedding bells already!" He chirped with an all too happy demeanor.

"Psh, Whatever," Desho snickered and joined his friend, "So what's our next class again?"

"Oh you're gonna love it Desho, It's transformation!" The two walked off to the entrance hall, "Maybe you'll learn how to morph yourself into a less girlish figure."

Author's Comments:

First and foremost, this is a fan fiction of a wonderful webcomic known as Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures aka DMFA. It was created by Amber Panyko aka MissMab. The settings of SAIA, Furrea and the Cubi concept in general were all created by her. [www.missmab.com]

The only Original characters in this story are the main characters, Desho, Faye, and Rath.

Now, I wrote this because it's a story I've had in my head for awhile and also wanted to write a fan fiction of some sort, so these two ideas came together and I thought DMFA had the perfect setting for it.

This is a love story planned to be 10 chapters, I want to know if I can make a plan like that and stick to it, I already have the story completely thought out.

EDIT: I submitted this to Deviant Art and Furaffinity as well, so the only difference from that site, this file has slight editing for grammar and stuff.

So, I hope you enjoy this story and while your at it, check out the webcomic if you haven't already.
