This story is something that sprang out of my head. Although written from the point of view of my fursona, this did not actually happen, although I wouldn't mind if it did! <EG>

My Character: Average sized brown bear, about 6'7" and running about 800#. Clothed in a leather vest, hat and shorts with outlet for tail. Small CZ earring in both ears, close to the head. Brown eyes, with small spectacles.

Dragon: Large black dragon. Details to be provided in the story.

In a village of about 200, I was of course different...I was a bear. No, not one of those gay, furry muscular men you see splattered across various points of the net, I was of those furry, "meet me in the woods and I might just maul you to death" creatures. In a village of mostly humans, I was one of a handful of furs around. Nice thing is I was surprisingly well-liked. Go figure. Of course, there is "him."

Everyone in the village knew of "him." Many were afraid of him when he emerged from his cavern to buy supplies in the village and then disappear for weeks on end. Sometimes, he would frequent the local tavern and sometimes disappear with one of the villagers, who would return after several days, half dead. We all pretty much knew what happened to the unfortunate villager chosen, the stench of it would be all over him for days. Many who were chosen left the village after a few days, never to be seen again. Then the cycle would start up.

I was employed in the local bookstore. In my free time, I managed to read just about anything on the matters of dragons. My boss, an older black bear, kept after me to stop reading so much and just sell the books. What can I say? Dragons fascinated me. I had never actually seen "him," only heard about it second or sometimes third hand. Little did I know, I was going to have a firsthand opportunity to meet "him."

It was just a few days before the annual harvest festival and the village was abuzz with activity. All the various farmers began bringing their wares to the local market, while decorating it at the same time. The aromas flittering around the air were intoxicating. Pies from the local bake shop in many different flavors. Wines from the vineyard, just recently bottled, samples available for tasting. Beer, fresh from the barrel, all of the smells from the market wafted into the bookshop.

With the festival going on, we weren't all that busy. I was sitting in my favorite corner in the upper stacks, leaning up against one of the support posts, with a book in my hand, and my canteen at my side. My boss had left only a few minutes ago, "to go sample the wares." He was a judge in the baking competition. Lost in my thoughts, I was jerked back to reality when the bell on the front door rang.

"Hello? Is anyone here," the voice asked. Although I knew just about everyone in the village, this particular voice escaped me. "I require some assistance finding a particular book."

I sprang from my hiding place, straightened myself and slowly padded down the stairs. When I turned the corner from the back and looked into the shop, "he" stood there. My jaw dropped.

"Good a-a-afternoon s-sir. I-I am R-Rogal U-U-Ursus H-how may I-I be of a-assistance," I stuttered. He was absolutely gorgeous. I briefly felt a stirring in my nether regions.

He stood about 7 feet tall. The scales not covered by his clothing were an iridescent gold. He wore a very simple robe, matching his scales perfectly. Around his neck hung a beautiful deep blue sapphire pendant that reflected the light across the room. His eyes, were about the same shade of his pendant.

"Greetings Rogal Ursus. My name is Vorah Nirsen. I have it on good authority that you are the place to come to for rare books, are you not," he asked, after bowing slightly.

"Yes Sir. We have a substantial collection of current and rare books available. Is there a particular author or title you are looking for?" I replied, spreading my arms across the store.

"Yes indeed Rogal. I am looking for a copy of Shakespeare's First Folio. Before you answer, I know it is hard to come by, and money is no object," he answered, reaching into his robe and plucking out a small coin purse.

My jaw dropped again. "Shakespeare's first folio? That indeed is a rarity," I chuckled. "I myself am a fan of the bard, but the oly copy I have is under lock and key and I am sure that my master will not wish to part with it. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get an answer now, he has gone to the fair. I doubt he will return before we close."

"Disappointing I suppose. That is one of the final books I require for my library. I would say it is about twice the size of this store my friend. I have tomes on a wide range of subjects from alchemy and history to literature and even the culinary arts," he answered, smiling. His white teeth glinted in the light. I began to feel nervous. "Maybe we should close for the evening and have a pint at the tavern and I will tell you more about my collection. You should come see it sometime."

My hands went down in front of me as a fidgeted slightly. I could feel his gaze deep into my body. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor with him kneeling over me. He was smiling from ear to ear. His teeth glinted in the light of the lamps.

"Whoa, you ok there Rogal? We were chatting about plans for the evening and you collapsed," his voice had an air of concern to it. He reached into the other pocket in his robe and pulled out a small flask, opened it and handed it to me. "Here have a small sip of this. I think it will help things."

I took a small sip of the flask and felt an amazing warmth flow through my body. The flavor was not unlike my favorite brandy in the tavern. I looked at him with puzzlement.

"Yes it is the brandy from the tavern. To be honest, my visit here is one with ulterior motives. I have known about you for a while. Yes I am well aware of my reputation in this village and to be honest, I am kind of sick of it," his voice developed a small air of resentment.

"So why here why now," I asked with a note of concern.

"Your reputation precedes you Rogal. Your knowledge is known well throughout this village and other than the mayor, you are quite popular," he replied smiling, helping me to my feet. "The ones, who spent time with me, were quite impressed by the interludes I provided, but after a while, conversation turned towards you. And I was not the one who brought it up, as I did not know you."

That made me smile. "You know, Vorah, I think I will take you up on that offer for that drink," I replied walking with him towards the door and locking it from the outside.
