It was once the capital of a place where the sun never set on its borders but today it is a place where the sun struggles to reaches the subfloors of the city.

Yearning towards the skies, towers of silver, gray, and black twist and turn into the cloudy atmosphere. Wires and bridges hold them together as if they would walk away freely if given the chance. Flashes of neon lights pierce through the smog and congested airspace, full of small craft speeding to and fro.

New London, the locals called it, built after the end of the last war. Before the end of the democratic rule and the start of the Corp Wars. Rebuilt for cold efficiency, the charm of the city wasn't found in historical structures or wide open spaces but in the cold, bright flashes of neon and addictive advertising that smothered the sides of the buildings lower levels where the streets lay dark and damp from the shadow and condensation of the towers above them.

It was one of those shining advertisements that Nala found herself mesmerized by, the pink and blues of a candy soft drink singing a simple melody while doing a slow dance across the screen. "Ooo," she murmured, "this looks yummy!"

She peeled her eyes from the screen and glanced over the crowded street; felines, hounds, equines, and more bustled back and forth to their destinations but she was looking for a very specific mercenary. Her eyes finally found the muscular form of the white-haired fox she was seeking.

Silver, as he was called, was exchanging a few words with a group of unsavory looking avians, their dark feathers almost blending into the shadowy corner they were standing in. One caught Nala's eyes and turned to the others. They dismissed Silver and disappeared into the crowds. Nala giggled and worked her way over the taller fox. "Friends of yours?" she asked. "Didn't think you liked feathers."

Silver raised a single eyebrow. "Just business, Nala."

"I'd wish you give me the business." Nala purred, leaning into him. "I saw a telescreen for some new drink. I want it." She ran a sly hand down his chest, over his leather jacket. "Do you have the credits?"

Silver looked back over at the telescreen she was talking about but the advertisement had changed to offering legal drugs in one of the lower wards. "Drugs?" he questioned.

Nala frowned. "What? No. It was a drink. Some candy pop. I want to try it." She looked over at the telescreen as well and cursed. "Fuckin' screen changed. Whatever."

Silver nodded. "I can get you a drink later. We need to keep moving. I have another drop to make." He pulled his jacket tight and narrowed his eyes down the street. "We're not far."

Nala whined and pulled on his arm. "But Silver! I want a drink now!"

"I know. You'll get one. Business first." Silver slipped his hand into hers and began pulling her along towards the next corner, pushing through the thongs of people.

"This is bullshit." she muttered.

Silver heard her remark but kept silent. He knew how she'd be; begging for something, pleading, then angry and fuming until she got her way. Some asked him why he stayed with her with that kind of attitude but nobody could understand. He looked back at her, into her purple glaring eyes under her shaggy brown hair, and almost caught himself smiling.

"What's the next business?" she snapped, pulling her hand free of his. "Since that's more important than the best thing that's ever happened to you."

Silver darted into a small side alleyway, the soft glow of a nearby neon sign discoloring his white fur into a kaleidoscope of colors. Nala stepped softly after him, the neon glinting off her black, short horns. "Ooh," she said, her voice thick with sarcasm, "an alleyway. Just like you merc types."

Silver ignored her comment and pressed down the alleyway, a few cripples laying along the way in various states of repair and disrepair. As Nala stepped over one, a hand grabbed her ankle, tripping her to the ground. "Fuck!" she screamed, hitting the ground hard.

"Tasty girl!" the cripple said, a dark wolf missing his lower half, "I could use your legs."

A sudden kick, a loud crunch, and the wolf slumped over onto the cracked concrete. Silver, breathing heavy, stood over him. "You okay?" he asked Nala, not turning to look at her.

"Y-yeah," she responded, pushing herself to her feet. "Did...did you kick him so hard you broke his neck?"

"Something like that, yeah." Silver responded. "Organ Harvesters." He spat on the ground. "I didn't expect one to be in that bad of a condition."

Nala nodded. Normally they lived at the cusp of society, not in the dregs of the lower levels. "Scared the shit out of me."

"I'm sorry." Silver said, turning to face her. "I'm glad you're safe."

Nala blushed slightly. "You're good, babe...that was kind of hot anyways. Not everyday your man will break somebody's neck with their foot for you."

Silver shrugged and stepped down the alleyway again. "There's a drop here I need to pick up....payment, from the job last week."

Nala scratched her head and nodded. "The holo-train job?"

Silver nodded. He felt the wall towards the end of the alleyway and pressed a small brick inwards. The brick next to it popped out with a small gasp and fell into his hands. He procured a small drive from the back of the brick and slipped it into his pant pocket. "Done. Let's head home."

Nala frowned. "This cloak and dagger shit is so dramatic." She took him by the hand and they exited the way they entered; over the cripples and stench of despair.

Their trip back to their living quarters was largely uneventful. Although you could never tell, the sun was setting soon. Large billboards that projected artificial light began dimming to reds and oranges to indicate end of day for the lower levels. Whistles in distant factories began blowing their shrill, artificial cry for the day shift to exit and for the night shift to shuffle inwards. Holo-trains whined overhead and farther above, personal flying craft zipped as the wealthier of society descended and ascended to their private domiciles.

The creaking of walkways above and the groaning of walkways below reminded Nala that while they weren't in the depths of the city, they certainly weren't living it up in the districts above. "One day," she muttered, stealing a glance towards a thin ribbon of clear sky she could spy between the buildings and craft.

She squeezed Silver's hand a little tighter as they wormed and wove through the dense crowds to a holotrain station. A small screen flickered on an arch above them, advertising openings in private domiciles in a few districts above them; it promised cleaner air, more freedoms, greater movement, and an additional 5 square meters of space. Nala licked her lips and tugged on Silver's jacket. "Babe."

Silver looked over his shoulder at her, still moving forward through the crowd. "Yes?"

"When can we afford to move up?" Nala asked, a flutter of her eyelashes included.

"Up?" Silver raised an eyebrow. "We're not."

Nala frowned and shook her head. "Say that again? I don't think I heard you correctly."

"Up. We're not." Silver said simply, turning away from her and pressing on into the station. He pulled a pair of travel tickets from his jacket and submitted them into one of the various machines that dotted the dark and dirty station. It beeped to life as it sucked the tickets it, whirred as it processed them, then spat out two new tickets for them. "Proceed to train." the machine groaned, echoing in volume at different spots.

Silver and Nala moved to the platform, bustling between the various citizens of New London, before stepping aboard the holotrain and finding two cramped seats to sit on. "Tight." Silver muttered, gently pushing a fellow passenger's bags away from his feet.

"It's always bullshit." Nala said, fuming over the earlier comments from Silver. Her mind wandered to the ability to see the real sun without getting a travel permit and a larger living place. Room for hobbies and activities and the things she's only ever seen on a holoscreen.

She glanced over at Silver, eyeing the white fox. She admitted to herself that she loved him and would go where he went but that didn't mean they had to stay in the slums forever.

She glanced up at the screen and realized she had lost herself in thought longer than she expected; the station for their living quarters was coming up fast. "Hon." She said, elbowing Silver. "Let's go."

He grunted in agreement and rose to his feet, giving her a helping hand to hers. "Ready?"

"Yeah."

The shuffling of feet and dinging of distant bells gave them rhythm as they departed and wormed their way through the dense crowds to their living district. It was a cut and paste of the thousands that existed across the city; an ebony black square with hundreds of small living quarters stack upon each other, with lines of laundry and neon lights providing some level of color and personality to the otherwise hauntingly dark area.

Silver and Nala moved among the throng of returning workers and workers leaving for shifts, keeping their hands close and senses open for a pickpocket or the occasional groper. Within a few minutes, they found the door to their quarters, scanned their bracelets, and entered into the small and dark room.

A small dual living room and kitchen set up with a small door that led into a smaller bedroom. Showers were shared down the street but most washed out of their sink and paid for a more luxurious shower once a month. Silver waved the lights awake and they crinkled to light, their bright LED bulbs providing depth to the small living area.

Nala looked around at the living room, balled her fists, and turned on Silver with a vengeance. "Look at this shit, Sil!" She slammed a fist against the wall. "We live in such shit!"

Silver raised an eyebrow and nodded. "I know, Nala."

"You know?" She felt her face grow hot with rage. "Then why the fuck are we still here? Why haven't we moved out?!"

Silver shook his head. "It's not time for that. There's still work to be done here, Nala."

Nala narrowed her eyes. "Work?! For you! I don't get to do shit here! Everything is just shit-"

She was cut off by Silver pressing a finger against her lips. "Nala, stop." He took a deep breath and nodded. "I know you're frustrated. I am too. But goal isn't to move up, it's to move out. I don't want to be here more than you do but I am saving for us to escape. I want a better life for you...that's my goal."

Nala blinked slowly and leaned into Silver's chest, hugging him tight. "I'm so sorry, I didn't-"

A hug was the quick answer and he released her to the couch. "It's okay."

The tears stung Nala's eyes as she sat down on the ratty couch, the soft upholstery giving way under her. "I-I'm sorry, I'm just tired." She looked up at Silver as he descended onto the couch next to her.

"I know." He cupped her face in his hands and kissed her forehead, drawing a deep blush to Nala's face. "I love you."

Nala nodded gently, "I love you too." she whispered in response, raising a hand to his face and tracing the purple markings around his left cheek. "You're pretty."

The corners of Silver's mouth turned up a little at that comment, a sly smile on the otherwise expressionless fox. "Thank you. You're pretty yourself." he replied, stroking her face gently and looking into her gentle pink eyes.

She leaned forward, kissing him softly, their lips almost just brushing across each other. He grunted and kissed her back, a tad harder. She grinned wickedly and grabbed his leather jacket and yanked him into her. Her lips clashed against his and her tongue slyly felt its way into his mouth.

He grunted in response and freely fell forward on her, pushing to a laying position on the couch as he mounted her, grabbing her face and flaying his tongue against hers. She moaned softly and started pulling it his jacket, desperately trying to unclothe him as fast as possible.

He grabbed her wrists and pinned her down to the couch, making her yelp in surprise. "Oh, you son of a-" was her retort before he kissed her hard again, their tongues clashing and wriggling against each other. Nala humped upwards against Silver's leg, craving stimulation between her legs.

Releasing her wrists, Silver grabbed at her pants and began roughly pulling at them, dragging her down the couch. With a savage pull, he tore her pants from her legs and tossed the shredded pieces to the floor. He shook free of his jacket and slid his pants off his legs, his throbbing red dick twitching at the anticipation of her warm, wet pussy.

"Give it to me!" Nala growled, spreading her legs apart and arching her back against the couch to lift her hips up. Silver grunted and pushed the head of his dick into her pussy, her legs and abs tensing up as he slowly filled her up. "Fuck." she said with a moan.

He adjusted his grip on her, grabbing her throat forcefully and pinning her down to the couch with the other as he began rocking his hips into her, slow thrusts punctuated by a quick reverse. Gasps of pleasure and surprise gurgled from out of Nala's throat as he slowly closed his grip on her neck, cutting off oxygen in a controlled manner. "Harder." she gasped.

Silver's hips obeyed, his thrusts slamming into her ass as she wrapped her legs around him. His dick slid easy and deep in her dripping wet pussy, pre-cum dripping from his dick further lubing up the fuck session between them. Her gasps and grunts of pleasure were shallow, raspy sounding under the tight grip of his hand and she could feel herself getting closer and closer to squirting all over his large dick.

With a grunt, he pressed into her as deep as he could go and began filling her up with his hot seed; flooding her pussy with so much it began squirting out around his dick. She yelped in pleasure and her body convulsed as she had an orgasm and squirted onto his dick in return.

He let go of her neck and they both shared in a heavy, slow kiss, their tongues tiredly wrapping around each other and they slowly embraced each other's bodies with their hands.

"Fuck...that was good." Nala said, licking her lips as she looked up into his eyes. "Do that again, big boy."

Silver gave a soft smile and nodded. "I love you."

Nala grinned wide. "Then buy me a new pair of pants."
