New World Chapter 1 - Meet the girls

"Mirielle!" A girl shouts as she runs through the marble hallways of the temple. "Where are you Mirielle?" The girl dressed in a pair of white pants and matching blouse finds her way into the hall with the hall of the sleeping priestess. As she turns the corner she sees a girl curled up against a large obsidian door at the end of the hallway. She slows and walks up to the girl. "Oh Mirielle, why do you always come here when you run?" She kneeled down and ran her hand through the smaller girls hair.
The girl leaned against the older girls chest. "Sorry Val..."
Valerie smiled. "Come on, dinner is going to be soon, lets get you cleaned up."
"But... I'm not hungry Val..." Mirielle said as she was pulled up by Val.
Val laughed. "You're nothing but skin and bones, we need to get you something to eat."
Mirielle nodded. "Alright... can I eat in my room?"
Val shook her head. "No, we are going to eat in the main hall with everyone else." She lead the tigress hybrid back to the rooms they lived in. They lived in the temple, the two shared a bathroom, their rooms on either side. They were the only ones with rooms like that, the other priestess' shared rooms. But because of Val's and Miri's connection Mother Rebecca gave them the rooms. Val stripped Miri and put the girl down on a stool in the bath and started cleaning the girls white hair noting the clumps of dirt and leaves. "You know you should try and at least protect yourself. I can't be with you everywhere."
The girl just moaned, Val did this for her almost daily, Miri had tried fighting back before, even just running, but it never helped, she just ended up hurt worse. The last time she fought, she ended up without most of her tail. She was ten when that happened, ever since she just curled up and took it, it usually ended up hurting less.
Val sighed. "Oh come on Miri, you know if you let me stay by your side I'll keep you safe."
Miri sighed, her ears going flat. "But you have things to do..."
"Mother Rebecca asked me to keep you safe. So let me." She said as she scrubbed the girls hair. Reaching under the girls ears and scrubbing the girls hair there.
Miri started to purr, Val knew what scrubbing her hair there did to the girl, of course Val was doing this on purpose, there was no other explanation for the girls scrubbing to take so long in one spot. Val smiled as she stopped, she looked down the girls body, there were bruises and several scars from the times she'd been beaten. But as long as Val could make her happy for a few minutes, she was doing her job. She didn't know why but ever since she met this young girl seven years ago she always was doing what she could to protect her.
After washing up Miri Val got her dressed in a simple set of robes and dragged her off to the cafeteria. The food dispensers were set on salmon with string beans. Val sat Miri down at an empty table and went to go get their food. Val had just finished getting cake for the both of them before hearing a commotion.
"Hey look its the mutt!" A group of girls had gathered around Miri, two of them pushing her side to side on her chair. Val dropped the two full trays on a nearby table before running over and tackling one of the girls, dropping her to the ground, she quickly sprang onto the other girl. "Leave Miri alone." She said as she stood up. One of the girls in the group punched Val in the back, Val turned around to face the other girl, this one nearly 6'4". "How about you let us deal with the mutt." The large girl said as she looked down at Val.
"Hey there Bertha." Val said as she got between Bertha and Miri.
Danica smiled at Launi. "Look at that girl, think she has what it takes?"
Launi smiled. "Yeah, she does, but she isn't quite ready yet. Neither is her charge."
Danica nodded. "Yep."
Bertha cracked her knuckles, "You are brave." She said before launching a haymaker at Val.
Val ducked under the blow, before head butting the larger girl below the ribs, knocking out her wind.
Bertha collapsed, the rest of the girls who were picking on Miri turned to Val and jumped her. It wasn't till Mother Rebecca walked over to pile of girls and cleared her throat that they got off of Val. "Sorry Ma'am..." They all said in unison.
"Go to your rooms. NOW!" Mother Rebecca said before turning to Val and Miri. "You two, come with me." She said sternly.
Miri stood up and had hung her head low. Val did the same, limping slightly after being beaten by the group. Once in Mother Rebecca's chambers and the doors were closed did Mother Rebecca sigh before collapsing into an over stuffed chair, slouching in it she looked at the two. "I wish I could get through to them. You'd expect a future priestess not to pick on others."
Miri raised her head. "I-I'm not in trouble?"
Val was silent, her lip swollen and one of her eyes swollen shut.
"Neither of you are. Now Valerie, come over here and let me see you." She said as she motioned to the bruised girl.
Valerie limped over. Mother Rebecca placed her hands on the girls cheeks rather gingerly, the bruises and lumps on her face disappeared. "There you go."
Valerie smiled. "Thank you. So I'm not in trouble for what I did?"
Mother Rebecca chuckled. "Of course not, you only did what a proper priestess should. I'm proud of you."
Val nodded. "Thank you Mother Rebecca."
Mother Rebecca laughed. "Call me Becky. And your welcome."
Miri smiled. "So Mother Becky, why did you call us here? If you were to just heal Val, couldn't we of just done that in the Cafeteria?" She said rubbing her fingers together.
"That is not the only reason you are here child. I know you both are having difficulties here. Miri you stick out like a sore thumb, and I am sorry that the other students are not as welcoming as others. You are all doing well despite that. Miri you have shown a lot of promise as a priestess. Val though, not so much." She said smiling at the older of the two.
Val frowned. "But, I've been trying my hardest..."
"Not all are meant to be a priestess. You remember the stories of the guardian's, right?" Becky said smiling.
Val and Miri nodded. "Guardians are just as important to the Following as Priestess but you see the last guardian died before passing on her gifts. You my dear, are a guardian, not a priestess. Do your best to keep Miri safe. Your mother had left you a gift for me to give you when I felt you were ready. I do not believe you are quite ready, but you are in need." She said pulling out a box. "Your mother said this is something that she made for you. Something that will let you harness the strength of the old guardians. Just promise that if you use it, you will only do so to keep Miri safe." She said holding out the box.
Val nodded, "Thank you. I promise, only for Miri's sake." She reached out for the box, the box was about the size of one needed for a shirt.
Mother Becky smiled. "Good, now I'll have someone drop off some food off in your rooms, go rest up, you have classes in the morning. And I do suggest you two soak for a while, it'll help you feel better."
Miri and Val left. Val holding the box to her chest. "Mom left this for me..." She said quietly.
"What is it?" Miri asked as she looked at the box.
"We'll find out later." She said as they got to their rooms. She placed the box down on her bed before undressing. She quickly shucked off her clothes and moved to the bathroom, after quickly rinsing she got into the bath. The water was always warm. A small miracle thanks to the baths filtration and heater system. It all fit into a small coke bottle sized device hidden behind the tub, they never needed to change filters or anything either. The system was completely self sustained.
Val relaxed, sinking in up to her neck. Miri joined her soon after the two just leaned against each other enjoying the warm water.
Miri broke the silence. "Do you remember your parents?"
Val nodded. "Yeah, I remember Mom... She would always wash me. Whenever I got into a tussle with the other kids or I would play in the mud, she'd make sure my hair was perfectly clean."
"Like you do for me?" Miri asked looking up at Val
Val nodded. "Yeah, she was a good doctor too. That's why she left me here, she said others needed her help, so she went off... Didn't hear from her again..."
"You think she is still alive?" Miri asked as she looked down at the water.
"I hope so, but most likely she didn't make it... Why else would she not contact me in all those years, especially when sending an video mail is so easy..."
Miri shrugged. "I don't remember my parents... I'd been living in and out of shelters most of my life... At least till Mother Becky found me..."
"That was after you lost your tail... isn't it?" Val asked as she scratched the girls ears.
Miri nodded, "Yeah..."
"Why haven't you done any of the regeneration procedures? You know they are free, right?" Val asked as she stopped playing with her ears.
Miri shrugged. "Figured I'd be a waste of time... Get it fixed then they'd just cut it off again..."
Val sighed. "Don't think like that. I am sure you'll have a good life..."
Miri looked at her, "I'm a mutt... My life will be hard..."
"That is why I am here, let me keep you safe." She said squeezing the girls shoulder.
"But you got hurt earlier..." Miri said pushing her fingers together.
"Yeah, so? It wasn't too bad. And I just got that thing from my mom, I'll be better suited, besides you heard what Mother Becky said, I'm a guardian, so keeping you safe is my business." Val said smiling as she got out of the bath. Miri watched her but when Val turned back she quickly looked away, blushing while she did so. Val smiled as she dried off, not bothering to get dressed she walked to her room and opened the box. Inside was a cloth with a large metal ring, just about the right size to fit around her neck, on it. She pulled out the ring and the cloth and looked underneath of it, she saw a datadisk. She took both the disk and the ring to her computer. Setting the ring down she put the disk in and waited for it to load, while it loaded she examined the ring, it was chrome colored, but was rather featureless, it didn't have any clasps or anything on it.
"Hello daughter. I'm sorry, if this is playing, it means something has happened and Mother Rebecca decided to give this to you. Understand this, I love you daughter, always have and always will. This device that is in front of you is an experimental device. I was working with it before I was told I was needed elsewhere. It works, but we never got the chance to make another. I knew that you would need this at some point. So I took it for you. It is simple to use, just think about it and it'll happen. I'm proud of you Valerie, I know you found someone to protect, so keep them safe. I've got to go, keep yourself and your friends safe." The message ended and Valerie just looked at the ring before grabbing it and thinking about it, it opened up, she put it around her neck, when she let go it closed around her neck, fitting itself to be a tight fit, but not tight enough to be uncomfortable.
Valerie gasped as the necklace started to change. It started to seemingly melt, flowing down her body. She gasped as she stood up, watching as the silver flowed down her body, outlining her every curve. "Registering new user. Name Valerie, DNA cataloged. I am Omni, your new suit." It said as it flowed over her hips.
"Umm... Omni... what are you doing?" Valerie asked as she watched it flow down her legs.
"Recording body type, saturating body with nanites, checking systems."
"What can you do?" Valerie asked as it stopped at her ankles, the suit had left her hands and ankles free.
"Adjust body to match desired species, proportions or strength. Currently available are most feline, canine, and reptile species." It said as Valerie looked at her body covered by the liquid metal. "Can change species 4 times a day currently. Will take another five minutes for nanites to reach saturation levels required to change."
"How much can I change?" Valerie asked as she went over to her mirror and looked at her reflection.
"100% increase in size possible at current nanite levels. With proper nutritional intake can increase by 500% Can decrease by 50%. Can amplify strength 100% maximum." Omni said as Valerie laid down on the bed.
"When you can, make me a white tiger like Miri." Valerie said as she curled up on her bed.
"Affirmative, once saturation is reached, will start." Omni said before going quite.
Several minutes later Valerie started to moan, her legs felt like someone was massaging them as they stretched out, her legs becoming digigrade. She opened her eyes and looked at them. "Her's aren't like this..."
"White tiger legs are digigrade, allows for increased running speed, longer leaps, and stronger kicks. Fur starting." As she said that a soft white pelt started to sprout, the metallic covering on her body disappearing as it did. Running her hands through it she mewled before stopping. "What... what was that?"
"A proper feline response to stimuli that is pleasant." Omni said as a muzzle started to sprout from Valerie's face her ears moving to the top of her head. Valerie rolled over as a tail sprouted from her. She moaned as she rubbed her tail and ran her new paws through her fur. The black strips forming as she did. A gasp stopped Valerie.
"What happened to you Val?" Miri asked as she looked at her friend, she had dressed in her bra and panties.
Val smiled as she got up. "Just enjoying mom's gift." She said as she walked over to Miri. "I wanted to be like you but this thing went and made me full on tiger." She said as she hugged Miri. "Come on, lets go to bed. Computer, bed, full." She said and her bed grew larger. Miri didn't seem to notice, pressing up against Val seemed to calm her down. Val guided the smaller girl to the bed and laid her down before spooning with her.
Miri closed her eyes and started to purr before turning over and burying her head between her friends mounds, Val just smiled and hugged her close.
Danica smiled. "I think it won't be long Launi. The bond those share is greater then the ones we first had with our guardians."
"That is true, and Miri shows great promise as a priestess. But is she really the one?" Launi said as she sat up from their bed looking the girl.
Danica smiled before pushing Launi back down. "I am sure of it." She said before straddling her mate. "Now lets have some fun before we depart to do our new job."
Miri smiled as she slept curled up against Val. Val couldn't remember the last time they slept like this, the had done it before, or that Miri slept so soundly. "I think we are going to sleep like this more often." She said as she hugged Miri the best she could before falling asleep herself.
BLDR here, I just wanted to let you all know this is the first chapter in a new series. Life and Times will go on, this is just to get something going, a teaser if you will about what will happen after Life and Times is over.
