"Stumbling at first, then crouching, Crawford made it to Tooley's Ford and gripped the front driver's white walled tire, intending to use if for leverage to open the engine bonnet cover and twist something loose.
His claws actually punctured it. A hiss of air escaped and he plucked his aching hand away, staring at the elongated claws that ended each digit.
This was not his hand. He didn't have the strength to do this.
Ignoring the rush of stale air, he let go and stepped back, his spine starting to spasm."
