BACKSTORY

Backstory: Jamie grew up on Long Island, in a somewhat stable home; Meredith had an okay-paying job at a factory, which paid the bills and put food on the table at least. They relied on charity sometimes for food, or clothes as Jamie grew.

He was homeschooled which led to him having a ton of free time to make things, but with very few friends but his mom, whom he had a pretty good relationship with. He never knew he was different until that one day a hellhound found and chased him towards camp, where said hellhound was dealt with after he was inside the borders.

His mom never spoke of Hephaestus, but knew what would happen once Jamie was older. She pushed him to try hard in Latin class at home, getting him numerous mythology books until he knew Greek myths nearly inside and out.

Meredith and Hephaestus met by chance at her factory workplace, and she took a liking to him. After a while, he visited her there more often, and then visited her place a couple times, which led to our Jamie.

After the boy was born, Hephaestus disappeared, which gods tend to do. Meredith was sad, yes, but knew he'd move on eventually. The fire god had told her what he was at the last minute, and what Jamie would be, although she wasn't sure if it was true or not at first. But seeing the boy growing up and making all sorts of things out of seemingly nothing, she eventually came to believe it.

Although she never told Jamie what he was, she knew he'd have to leave eventually. Hephaestus had told her about the camp, and to send him when he was thirteen if a monster didn't come for him earlier.

How they got to camp: Hellhound chase! Thus he is deathly afraid of large dogs.

Jamie had a friend who was a satyr, as many demigods do. His mother had asked Hephaestus to send a guardian for Jamie, and surprisingly he came through with the beefy and merry satyr named Allen, who Jamie would come to think of as his best friend.

Allen helped Jamie once that one hellhound came after him, fighting the canine with a makeshift branch club and some rather inexperienced nature magic (which didn't really work), overall buying Jamie some time to catch a taxi to the camp.

Allen had given Jamie a map to the camp (although said map was mortal, with only a mark in pen on the location) before confronting the hellhound.

Allen sustained a severe leg injury and eventually was defeated by the hound, though he became a lovely hydrangea.

Devastated and very very confused, Jamie ended up arriving at the camp and going into shock, waking up in the infirmary.

Jamie never knew Allen was a satyr, and misses his mom terribly.
