Prologue letting us get a glimpse into the lives of two furs.

Hello, I'm Ogima Mahiga, this will be my first published work on here. After reading so many for years, I thought it is time to contribute something. Comments are welcome, all I ask is to be kind in critiquing. Hope you enjoy.

All characters are owned by me.

A quiet midwestern morning starts as the rumble of a large diesel engine fires up, belching its traditional black cloud as it warms up in the springtime cold. A handsome looking Timber Wolf and Bengal Tiger hybrid, about mid 30s, climbs down out of the cab of his Peterbuilt sleeper. Standing at a little over six feet tall, tiger stripes running the orange field on his back, blending into his brown and gray fur on his sides. Cobaul heads back to his home, stepping into the contemporary kitchen, a beautiful female hybrid of Arcanine and Jolteon, just a little younger than Cobaul at 28, Freya is her name, finishes brewing the slow roast coffee, turns and smiles at Cobaul. Her brilliant blue eyes meet his as she finishes preparing his coffee and lunch.

"Long run today, my love" she says, her golden tail swaying behind her.

"About 400 miles round trip, I should be back by evening" he replies as he collects his vest and hat, he goes and gives her a soft kiss. Freya returns the kiss softly. "A short run, the best kind." She smiles warmly, beaming with pride at her providing mate. Freya hands him his lunch and sends him on his way. A low rumble as he pulls out of the drive to begin his day, two honks of his air horn sound out as he gets on the road. She watches as he drives off down the road. Freya sets to work around the house as she does every day. Smiling as she does so, knowing that Cobaul takes care of providing for the both of them. He always told her that she could work outside the house as well, however she's always felt content to tend to the house while he's away. She thinks back on the way they met, gives a slight chuckle to herself.

Freya just moved to the city, fresh out of high school, drawn here by an ad for a decent paying job working for a small company. Freya got settled into her apartment, started her job as a data clerk, very excited to be on her own. On her second day, a driver came to see her, Cobaul came in, just like any other driver would when there's an issue. There was something different about him, she kept it professional, but in her mind, she felt that there was something more than just a casual meeting. Freya is a believer that everything happens for a reason, knowing that the two of them were destined to meet. A few weeks went by and Cobaul would stop in every so often. It started to become a little too regular as he would start coming in almost every time his route came that way, until one day, something was different.

Cobaul came in, same as usual, however looking a little nervous. "Hey, I've got this issue with the manifest, it seems to be missing a number." He hands over the paperwork as she looks it over, "Everything looks fine here," she replies looking a little confused, as there has never been an issue of incomplete paperwork. Cobaul leans a little closer to Freya so her coworkers can't hear him, "It's missing ten numbers that I'd like to have," smiling nervously at her. Freya picks up on this, her tail twitches as she's never had anyone ask for such a thing before. "You want my phone number?" Freya now looking around as this hybrid smiling at her nods, quietly she gets a sticky note and writes down those ten digits. Cobaul takes his paperwork and thanks her.

Freya finishes her day wondering if and when this driver would call. Wondering if she made a mistake giving him her number. She knew better, not to trust a stranger, but Cobaul wasn't a stranger, she has seen him a lot through work. As she sits there justifying her decision, a tell-tale sound comes from her phone. She jumps a little as she looks at her screen, it was Cobaul, she knew the number from all his visits to the office, cautiously she picks up.

"Hello?" Freya says, trying not to sound nervous.

"Hey, I'm Cobaul, the one who asked for your number." He makes a nervous laugh as he says the last part. Freya giggles lightly "Ah, the one with the manifest issue." Cobaul chuckles, "Yeah, I know, not the best pickup tactic." _Pick up tactic? Does he really...want to go out with me, _Freya thinks as she tries to come up with a response.

"Hello?" Cobaul says, hearing only the silence on the phone. "Yes, yes I'm here, just surprised me," Freya finally says, being snapped out of her thoughts.

"I know, it was forward, but I've got to be honest, ever since I met you that first time, I've liked you and would like to get to know you better." Cobaul says, putting it out there in her hands.

Freya processing this, she's had a few boyfriends before, but never one this bold or through her work. "I think I would like to," she replies, a warm feeling filling her.

They continue to talk for a while, sharing interests and stories about themselves. As the call goes on, Freya starts to feel closer to him, like a friend, with the hint of something more. Until one line gets her full attention, making her ears perk. "I'd like to meet in person, outside of work." Cobaul says, nervously waiting for an answer. Freya replies after a moment, setting up a meal at one of the local burger joints. "I'll see you there," Cobaul says happily as they say their goodbyes.

Present Day...

Freya smiled to herself, remembering that time. Her work finished, she settled into the couch for a little relaxation, her phone had one notification, a message from one of her friends. Freya opens the message; a photo of an athletic female gray wolf fills her screen. Freya giggles as she sees her friend Maria standing there in a two-piece bikini.

MARIA: Like what you see?

FREYA: Yes, I do. Looks like the gym is working for you.

MARIA: Thanks, say, when are you and Cobaul going to come by? Charlie and I miss you two.

Freya thought on this, as it has been some time since they were able to hang out with friends since Cobaul took on the new route.

FREYA: Cobaul is on a day run. We could come by this evening, if he's up for it.

MARIA: I'll let Charlie know, he's going to be excited.

Potential plans set in motion for the evening, Freya sends a message to Cobaul and continues relaxing. Her tail sways lightly as she thinks of her friends, some may say in ways that one shouldn't be thinking, but what is the harm in some pleasant thoughts.

Thank You for reading, I hoped you like it. We will be following these two through their adventures as they find out more about themselves and each other.
