It's late one evening in your home, the sun had already set and bright stars dotted the sky. Things had taken a trend towards being dreary and disappointing as you lied in bed, face planted into a pillow as you tried to cry.

Under your bed, came a subtle chime and slithering movement, but you knew what, or who it was. A dark creature with no discernable name, long and snake-like, covered in a thick coat of fur, and had as many eyes as a spider. A 'monster' if you will.

You've known the creature since you were just six, as it had tried to bring terror and nightmares; yet, for a reason you couldn't determine, it did not. It could not speak in a way you could understand, but its actions spoke louder than words, seemingly always there when you were down.

Deciding to face the 'monster,' you turn and see the tell-tale eight glowing blue eyes hovering above, and quickly an outline of its slender serpentine body became clearer.

You gave it a weak smile, knowing why it was there tonight. A quiet hiss escaped the unusual serpantine creature as it closed in, slithering up to you until the soft fur of its body slowly glides across your skin. It had the strength to wrap itself around you in a loose, yet firm coil so as to not cause discomfort.

When it had finished its embrace, its head rested under your chin, and you couldn't help but pet the serpent along its lengthy, fur covered back. That simple action alone, like always, had allowed you to relax and forget your problems for a moment.

'Those events are in the past, and while things may be uncertain now, tomorrow promises change. It's up to you adapt.'

You felt those words stream into your mind seemingly unprompted, yet it filled you with hope, and a feeling that things would be just fine.

The world felt like it melted away as you dozed off.
