A moment of rest

My first attempt at writing something, hopefully it can help relax you if you need it.

It's a warm summer night as you find yourself deep in an ancient forest, surrounded by a mix of giant redwood trees and shorter evergreens. You take the time to look at the ground under you, a soft cover of moss with a few pine cones scattered here and there. You take a deep breath through your nose, noting the scent of the woods surrounding you and the ground supporting you. The air is fresh and comfortable. You let the sounds of distant crickets and frogs calm you, their constant low hum a pleasant reminder of the life that surrounds you.

You are ready. You close your eyes and take a deep breath once again. When you open them, you see an anthro wolf standing a few meters away from you. His amber eyes rest calmly upon you, through the facades you put to protect yourself, as if he knew you more than you know yourself. His gaze is gentle, and his expression tells you that he sees the pain you are going through.

He takes a step towards you, his thick silver and gray fur shimmering in the moonlight as he moves. He is part of the forest surrounding you, his spirit free and untamed but deeply caring to all life. He extends a hand, allowing you to take as much time as you need.

You step forward and extend your hand, letting the wolf wrap his larger paw-like hand around yours. His palm and fingertips are topped by soft and cushiony paw pads, while the rest is covered in a layer of delicate fur. His whole body irradiates warmth and your fingers are no longer cold.

"You are safe here," he says, with a deep and soothing voice. "Let me share your burden for a while."

You let him.

The tall canid pulls you in an embrace, his strong arms wrapping around your back and waist as your head lays on his fluff-covered chest. He holds you strongly, your legs barely doing any work to stand anymore. One of his hands starts stroking your hair, softly untangling knots and massaging your scalp. The weight of it feels more comforting than any blanket.

He lays down, keeping you tight in his arms. You take notice of how his fur surrounds you and how you can spot subtle darker stripes when you look closely. You let your hand grab some of it, feeling the natural softness all around your fingers, before digging them deeper in. You find his warm skin and scratch it a little, making the large anthro wolf under you growl in contentment.

You focus on your nose, still detecting the scents of the forest but now mixed in with the earthy and natural scent of the wolf holding you. Your ears are filled with the sound of his deep steady breathing, and the strong thumping of his heart. You are enclosed in a protective embrace, warming the deepest parts of your spirit. You allow yourself to be vulnerable and feel everything you need to feel at this moment.

"This place exists outside of time and space, it will always be here for you" he whispers. His breath is warm against your ear as it replaces your fears with his everlasting strength. "I am here for you, always"

You decide to believe him.
