THE UNINTENDED CURSE

Ch. 11

We spent the next two days there at that port, selling our fish that we'd caught, and within that time I was able to get the girls some more cloths or at least some more leather to which the elder sister made into cloths for them both. The two were now finely dressed in leather clothing that the elder sister had made, and made them appear more alluring to my hosts eyes. Such sights did little for me, but I did admit that those cloths really did make them more...well more at least.

"We should be leaving with the outgoing tide," I told them as I'd snuck away from some of my duties on the ship to keep them informed of the happenings above the hold. "If our luck holds true, we should not encounter any problems and safely make it out of the harbor and into the open sea." The two nodded and sank back into the shadows that seemed to hid them so well.

Returning to the upper decks of the ship I began to work again with my tireless task of hauling in fishing nets, repairing damaged ones, and anything else that required two people to accomplish. I often would catch glimpses of the other sailors at times, staring in awe at the feats as the two of us worked together (me and my host). Though they themselves were ignorant that the two of us were actually working together, they praised us none the less for our extraordinary strength. I was a bit amazed at the same time as well, as I was able to allow my current host to do most of the work with only me being there to lend him a little more strength where needed.. It amazed me again that he would knowingly acknowledge the fact that I resided within him and worked with me every now and again, instead of constantly fighting against me for control of his body.

'I must be possessed by some kind of spirit that is lending me it's strength.' I would often catch him thinking. 'Though I do not know if this spirit is benevolent or other, I have no clue. Though as the old wise men say, 'Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.' To which I couldn't help but laugh at.

'If only he knew of my plans for him. He wouldn't be so happy about me being in his body.' I thought to myself which got me/us to smile.

We spent the next two days there at the port after the whole elf incident, but shortly before the rise of the sun on the third day, we pulled anchor and headed back out on the retreating tide to the open water of the sea. I had to admit that it felt good to get back on my sea legs again, but that didn't mean that everyone aboard had an easy time of being out at sea.

Every night I would take up the first watch and allow both the girls to come up from the lower deck, where they were hiding, to stretch and get away from the fishy smell that was permeating the lower decks. "You have to let us come up here more often." Complained the younger elf as she quickly went to the edge of the rail and started coughing as well as spitting up some of her recent meal.

"I have told you several times that I can't do that. If the two of you are found aboard this ship, there is no telling what kind of punishment awaits you." I said as I walked over to the rail and rubbed my hand over her upper back to try and ease some of her sea sickness. "How many times must I repeat myself?"

We were soon joined by her older sister who, though she didn't retch over the side of the boat like her younger sister, she joined us leaning against the same rail anyways. "That may be true, but you do have to look at it from our perspective," I looked over to her and saw her turn around so that her back was leaning against the rail. "Those lower decks smell to high heaven and we can't move around to much down there for fear of being heard."

I took a long sigh and placed my arms across the rail and looked out of the horizon at the merging point between the star filled night sky and the dark sea. "I know...I know." Taking a long sigh I rubbed the little sister back a little more and she nodded to me. "I just want to keep the two of you safe is all." Once the younger sister had coughed up every that she needed to, she sat down and leaned against the rail to which both me and her older sister did as well.

We sat there for a long while, while we just looked up at the billion of little twinkling lights that shone above us. I don't know how long we looked up there but I was brought out of my revere as I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked to see that it was the older sister. "I would like to ask you a few things about you, if I may." I nodded to her as I looked over and saw that the little sister had closed her eyes and looked as if asleep. "I would like to know about how you were cursed with the, 'Unforgivable Curse."

I slowly turned to look at her and raised an eyebrow at her. "The curse actually has a name does it? Interesting." I raised up my hosts hand and looked down at it. "It happened a long time ago. Two...maybe three years ago, I can't really recall the passage of time that well anymore, " I went into detail of how I'd saved the elf from the bandits/highway-men, was accidentally cured into my blob form, how I was able to survive by learning how to control each of my hosts from within, and so on and so forth. "So, I jump from host to host in order to try and see if I can learn of where I can find this elf and have her return me to my original body."

True to her lady/elfish nature, she allowed me to tell my whole story and only nodded every now and again. "You say that you can learn things from your hosts memories," She turned to look away from me and I could visibly see her blush though it was quite dark out. "Does that mean...you've learned things about...us...me?"

I didn't know if I should laugh at that or keep my mouth shut. So I leaned my head back and looked back up at the stars as my memories went over the things that I knew about her. "If your wondering if I can read minds of my hosts then,...no. I only gain the knowledge of my host when I'm in their bodies." I slowly turned so that I was looking at her. "In your case...," I gently tapped her head with my finger and smiled at her. "The part of me that's in you is totally separate from me. I would have to take it out, merge with it, then the knowledge that it knows about you would be transferred to me."

I saw her visibly relax a bit at that and nod. "The same goes for your younger sister." She turned and looked at me and I could see the blush was gone but one of sorrow was in her eyes. "The only thing I can tell, is that there is indeed a part of me within the two of you and is working fairly hard at keeping the two of you from being sick, hurt, or anything else that might try and harm your body."

Just then her eyes went wide and she looked over at her sister. "Then tell me why is it that my sister keeps on getting sick each day. Surely that part of you that's in her would prevent her from...why are you laughing?" She asked as she saw that I was now in a fit of laughter that I was trying fairly hard to keep under control.

"Sorry about that," I wiped a tear out of my eye and smiled to her. "To answer your question. Doesn't every child that misbehaves must be taught a lesson as to what they did wrong, is wrong?" She looked on over to her sister then back at me, only to start laughing at that as well.

"I think that it might be a while before she beings to learn the lesson that your trying to teach her." She said between laughs.

And thus began our cycle. Over the course of the next few weeks out at sea, I would go out with the other fishermen to do our share of the fishing, take up the first watch at night, allow the girls to come up to the upper deck to stretch and get some fresh air, eat some food that the girls would prepare for us while they were up there with me for my watch, then they would quickly go back down in time to avoid the switch in the watch, and finally I would rest my hosts body while I would personally go down and gorge ALL myself, (Even the parts that resided within the girls) on the bad fish that was to be thrown over board the next day. It was a good cycle and I truly hoped that it would last throughout our trip back onto the trail to search for my elf and return these girls to their own forest/s. Like most things, the good times were not to last.

I was out fishing with the other men when a shot came out from the main ship. A shot would only come out from the main ship when the captain wanted us back in for something pretty important. When we all got back to the ship and had our small boats/dinghies tied up to the main ship, we all got up to the main deck to find that the captain had a large sack over something and had his hand over the top of the sack. "Welcome back my lads. I must say that I've just found ourselves a bit of treat aboard my ship." Our group just looked between each other as we asked each other what it could be, then we all looked back at the captain.

"I know that I've told you that it was unwise to bring/buy slaves at the slavers market. Haven't I lads?" He asked to which we all nodded. "Now I must ask, 'Did any of you break this rule?" To which none of us nodded our heads, only shook them. "Then I guess we've got some stowaways aboard my ship." With that he turned back to the sack, pulled it up, then revealed the two elves that I'd tried for so long to keep hidden within the hold.

'Aw....crap.'
