It's Fate

Part 1

This story contains some M/M themes, as well as characters that are under 18, and although it is not of an adult nature, should you take offense to such content please don't hesitate to leave. All characters in this story belong to me, and should not be used unless permission is given.

Now that we have that out of the way, I just want to say hi again, I've been lazy, procrastinating and putting off writing for too long and I finally got past the writers block after reading some comics and having a healthy dose of vacation. And it's definitely good to be back! Hopefully I'll have more time to write again, I was going through a rough time in my life and I was quite busy with work and family.

But enough of my boring life, you came here for a story not my babbling...

Hiding behind the only person he knew in the world, or at least what he considered the world, seeing as he would never see his old 'world' again, Lance poked his head out from behind his adopted dad, looking at the neighbors that wanted to meet him and his dad. Lance had been with his new dad for a few months before his dad had to leave the old town that Lance had just gotten used to. It wasn't easy for either of them, but Lance's dad, named Tain, had told him that moving could be an adventure where he can meet new people.

"Hey, you must be the new neighbor," Said the lion that was standing at their porch, "my name's Josh."

"Hello Josh, my name's Tain, and this is my son Lance," Tain said, gesturing to the small arctic fox behind him, "He's a bit shy."

"Oh, he looks like he's about my son's age, maybe they can get to know each other."

"That sounds good; it would be nice for him to have a friend."

"I think he's home, I'll go get him."

With that Josh walked back to his house, and after a minute or two, walked back out with what Lance assumed was his son.

Lance stepped out from behind Tain and shuffled forward nervously to meet the small lion.

"Hey I'm Toby, what's your name?" Said the small lion, looking at Lance with a silly grin on his face

"I-I'm Lance" Lance said, starting to feel comfortable around the lion, although he had only just met him.

"Wanna go to the park?" Toby said, excitedly.

"Sure, let's go!" Lance said, all traces of shyness disappearing.

The two ran down the streets off to the park while the two adults got to know each other as well.

"Hey lance, why's your daddy a wolf but you're a white fox?" Toby asked.

"Well, he's not my real daddy, I never knew my real parents." Lance said.

"Ooooh, I get it, hey, let's go on the swings!" Toby said, forgetting about his question entirely.

"Okay, race ya there!" Lance said, taking off full speed to an open set of swings.

The two played around at the park for a while, and then they lay down on the grass, and talked to each other about whatever came to their minds. Lance quickly felt completely comfortable around Toby, and the two were rarely apart, spending their days running around, climbing trees, and doing whatever else seemed like fun.

7 years later:

"Hey Toby, where's the new guy? Wasn't he supposed to be here by now?" Lance asked. Lance was 5'4", and still had his shiny white-silver fur.

"I dunno he should be here soon though." Toby said, tuning up one of his guitars. Toby hadn't grown as much as he'd hoped, he was only 5'6" compared to his fathers 6'0", and his mane was nonexistent.

Their third band mate, Nate, said "Well he's gotta get here soon or we'll have to start without him, I don't have all day to wait for him." Nate was an orange and black fox that stood at 5'7".

The three waited for a few minutes before they were about to give up on waiting, when a raccoon walked in, "sorry I'm late, I couldn't find this house to save my life." He said.

"Hey, as long as you're here, let's get you up to speed alright?" Toby said, "The kit's over there, if you didn't bring your own."

"Oh, I brought my own, just let me set it up real fast." The raccoon said.

The raccoon set up his drum kit quickly, and sat down, ready to play.

Lance looked at the raccoon, "Hey I didn't catch your name, I'm Lance"

"Oh, I'm Drake."

"I'm Toby, and that," Toby said, "Is Nate, our lead singer."

"Okay, Lance is gonna show you all of your parts, and catch you up, it shouldn't take long." Toby said.

"Alright, this shouldn't be too difficult, you can read sheet music right?" Lance asked.

"Yeah, do you have any?" Drake asked hopefully.

"Yeah, this is the sheet music for the song we're working on, and here's the rest of the songs we've done," Lance said, giving Drake a rather large stack of paper, "you only need the one we're working on now, but you should look at the rest later."

"Okay, I'll just start practicing then..." Drake said.

Lance stood behind Drake, and watched him play, giving him a tip or two on how it was supposed to be played.

"There you go, that's perfect, I knew this would be easy." Lance said, patting Drakes back, "now let's get started."

Lance got back to his bass, and made sure his keyboard was on the right sound setting.

Lance started the song off with his keyboard, starting slow and then picking up the speed of the song until the guitar and drums kicked in.

Mistakes were made, but they played through the song regardless.

"Not bad, all you gotta do is get in some more practice and you should be fine." Lance said, "Ah, I gotta go! See you guys tomorrow." And with that lance hurriedly packed his keyboard and bass and ran back home.

When lance got out of his house, Toby was waiting for him, "Hey Lance, what's up?"

"Nothin' Toby, I just had to do some work for dad."

"Hey, let's go to the park." Toby said.

"Toby we're not 10 any more." Lance said, "Why do you wanna go to the park."

"I just wanted to get out and talk a bit, ya know?"

"Oh, alright."

The two arrived at the park rather late, and anyone that was there was leaving, leaving the two alone, more or less.

"So what did you want to talk about?" Lance said, sitting in a swing, and starting to absentmindedly rock back and forth.

"It's about our band, you know we've started to get a bit more popular and we have our first gig soon, and I'm really hoping this will turn into something big, but if it does I'm afraid."

"Of what, isn't this what you wanted, to travel all over the world playing music?"

"Yeah but I'm afraid that if we do, that you won't want to leave."

"Toby I-"

"I know you think that now, but you have a life here, you love it here, I can see it." Toby said, "And I think that when the time comes you might not want to leave."

"What's up with you? It's not like you can't find another bassist or keyboard player."

Toby's head dropped, "But I can't find another YOU, you've been there for me since the first day I met you, when was the last time we DIDN'T hang out with each other?"

"I know it might be hard to leave behind a friend, but it's not the end of the world, is it?"

"But you're more than just a friend to me..." Toby said.

"Wait... do you mean what I think you do...?" Lance asked, looking strangely at Toby.

"Yeah... I... I do..." Toby said, head hanging even lower.

"Toby... if you really do feel that way... how could I let you leave me behind?" Lance said, smiling.

Toby looked up at lance, seeing him smiling warmly, and laughed.

"Hey, what's so funny?"

"Oh it's just I was so nervous and it's usually me giving you that smile, its funny being on the receiving end after so long."

Lance's smile grew a bit, "You're right, that is pretty funny."

The two sat there thinking for a while until Lance broke the silence, "Come on," he said, offering his paw to Toby, "we should start heading home soon."

Toby grabbed Lances paw, and yelped a bit when lance pulled him into a hug, "I'll go with you, no matter what, I don't want to leave you to find someone else." Lance whispered into his ear.

With that Toby and Lance walked back to their houses, with the goofy grins they used to wear as children.

Well then, I've finally gotten back into the groove it seems, I just needed to take the time to sit and write again, I'm really glad I got this out for thanksgiving though, think of it as a present from me to you, I'm going to get working on the next chapter immediately, and it'll most likely have some yiffy bits involved, so keep your eyes peeled, unless you're a minor that is, then you stay away, it's bad for your brain.

This chapter was mainly just a glimpse into the background of the stories to come, I guess this is more of a prologue, but that would require me to change the title, and we can't have that, now can we?

Thanks for reading my stories and waiting for my procrastination to end!
