#13 of Drag'n'Drop

I want to thank everyone who has gotten to the end of this story and I hope that this chapter gives you all some closure from the last part.

Neebis reached slowly and silenced the alarm next to his bed with a contented sigh. He stretched out his limbs on the large bed, the gold coloured sheets soft and crisp under his white scales. He reached his paws over to where his mate would sleep and felt a wave of sadness come over him as his paws just gripped the empty bed. Her side of the bed neatly made like it always was.

He longingly groped the sheets on her side before rolling into his back and let out a sigh. Living in the spires was a huge step up from sleeping on the farm, but he would have been happy staying in the apartment above the market place, but that was no longer an option. With a groan be rolled off the bed and onto his feet. His claws clicking on the cold marble floor, since he sold his start up to Drag'n'Drop, the wealth overwhelmed him and at first he wasn't sure what to do with it. But as he looked across the large empty room he knew that it was the right thing to do. The sun was coming through the curtains and he took them in his jaw and pulled them back, admiring the view from the apartment. The city glittered as the sun's rays reflected off the other glass buildings, he could already see lines of dragons flying through the city all hurrying to get to their jobs and do their errands.

He quietly walked out of his bedroom and into the wide hallway, as he walked past picture frames he couldn't help but fondly remember the happy memories he had. His heart swelled when he saw the picture of him and Reevian, smiling under a tree. The photo was taken just before they sold Grub-Wrym, the photo was professionally done and he could see the happiness in each others eyes, oblivious to the turmoil that would happen in the coming days. Both of them sat in the shade, her belly swollen with their unborn child and each had a shiny silver band around their horns, The intricate details of leaves and noodles engraved into each band, symbolizing they two different backgrounds coming together.

He kept quietly walking down the hall way, the silence of the apartment was deafening, he walked past a framed picture of a large payment to the bank, completing their obligations to their loans. The frame was worth more than the paper, but he knew it meant a lot to his mate and he couldn't bring himself to take it down. He came to the kitchen and started to get breakfast ready, pulling ingreidents out from the fridge and putting them on the cutting board. From the drawer he pulled a large knife, its wooden handle was charred from the explosion but it was the first knife that Reevian had bought when she opened her stall and it was still sharp. He carefully chopped the ingreidients, he could hear his mate whispering instructions in his mind "Glide the knife Neebis, don't hammer with it, Its sharp, let it do the work."

He shivered slightly in the cold air-conditioning, and continued his work. He heard a noise from one of the other bedrooms and turned his head in that direction. "I hope you are getting up" he said.

After a short pause the door came crashing open and the sound of little claws tapping on the marble could be heard, A little sky blue dragoness with a red frill leapt up onto the kitchen stool, her eyes bright and excited, her tail wiggling as she watched her farther prepare her breakfast.

"Mooooorning Daddy" she said, drawing out her words.

"Good Mooooorning my sweat" he returned, reaching his head across the counter to give her a lick on the head, earning a giggle from her. "Have you done your homework?" He asked

"Yes" she said with a huff.

"Have you really done your home work?" He asked again, looking up at her with an eye while he dished up breakfast.

"Maybe..." she said, not meeting his gaze.

"Alright, eat your breakfast and we can do it on the flight to school." he said as he slid a bowl of fruit to her and started to eat from his.

As she picked at her food, he could tell something was troubling her. "Why the long face little gem" he said and brought his head down to her level.

"One of the drakes at school is being a dropped egg" she said with a huff.

He tried really hard to not burst out laughing at her cursing. "Oh really, Do you want me to speak to his parents"

"NOOOO" she said mortified looking up at his smiling face. "Don't! you will just embarrass me."

"Well, Tell me about this drake then?" He said and came around the counter to sit next to her. "What does he look like?"

"He is big and flies really fast, His name is Meegi, He has really big wings and tan scales." She said, Neebis could tell she was conflicted.

"Is he cute?" he chided.

"DAAAD!" she exclaimed and looked up at him. she returned to her fruit and he heard her mutter "...maybe"

He chuckled, "Don't worry my little sugar plumb. He is only being mean because he likes you"

"That makes no sense" she said with a huff.

"Oh it doesn't, drakes your age are silly." he put a wing around her and pulled himself close to her, with her on the kitchen stool and him sitting on the floor she was about his shoulder height. "But if you get in trouble for standing your ground against him..... we will get ice-cream" he whispered to her. He felt her inhale sharply as she became excited. "But! Just because I said that doesn't mean you should go looking for trouble. Ok?"

"But Ice cream!" she whined.

"OK?" he said firmly.

"Fine...." she said as she finished her breakfast.

"Alright, you get ready for school, ill clean up here." he said and gave her a playful tap on her flank with his tail. Chuckling as she scampered off to her bathroom, "always on the move" he muttered to himself as he collected the bowls and cleaned them up. His reflection in the sink catching his eye, Long gone was the strong toned body of a farm dragon and instead was the look of a father who often didn't get much sleep, his body developed a few new curves but he didn't care. He wasn't putting himself on the market anyway, He didn't need another mate, his daughter kept him too busy anyway.

He strapped on his harness, its nylon straps wrapping around his front legs and neck. He gave it a sniff and he knew it needed a wash, it seemed to have more pockets than he would ever need and each one was stuffed with crumbs, crayons and snacks, between his shoulders was a few loops for a hatchling to hang onto while he flew. He made his way to the door as he heard little paws running down the corridor towards him, he slightly lowered his hips and felt her claws dig into his rump as she scampered up his back and took her place between his shoulders.

"Ready?" he asked, turning his head back towards her.

"Ready!" she said definitely.

He opened the door to the hallway and closed the door behind him with his tail, hearing the lock click. They stepped into the elevator and Neebis looked at them both in the mirror, He saw his daughter looking at him and he pulled a face, earning him a giggle. "Look, that 'ness looks like you" he said.

"Daaaad, it is us" she whined.

"Are you sure?" he teased and she bit his neck frill making his body jolt.

As they flew towards one of the private schools nearby, Neebis helped her with her homework, her tablet strapped to his harness and she tapped away with her claws. Occasionally asking questions here and there, the questions were starting to test Neebis and he was a bit worried how he could help her as she progressed with her education. Growing up on the farm he was never burdened with knowing the history of the land or complex equations. He breathed in the city air and buried his doubts, he could hire a tutor if needed, although he enjoyed their routine.

They continued their flight until they reached the school, It was a large sprawling estate on the outskirts of the city, boasting the finest facilities for dragons and other four legged creatures, He saw the pools and oval where the children would expend their energy and the large outdoor amphitheaters which let the students learn out doors, He was keen for her to attend this school based on their outdoor learning, so many dragons spent so much time indoors these days he was keen to make sure she experienced the real world.

He did a quick shoulder check and dipped his wings, descending to the school. He landed on a launch pad just outside the school gate and he felt his daughter leap off him, spreading her wings wide as she glid down to the ground, clutching her bag in her jaws. She started to scamper off and he called out to her. "Reeva, you have forgotten something!"

"No I didn't Dad!" She called back

"Dont make me bring it to you during class!" he threatened, he saw her slow down putting her bag on her back before quickly running back to him, her bag bouncing on her back as she galloped quickly. He lowered himself down and she leapt onto his face wrapping her body over his snout, her paws gripping his jaw as she gave him a hug.

"Love you Reeva" He whispered

"Love you too Dad" she said back, giving him a lick between his horns and jumping off.

"Go on, stop embarrassing me" Neebis said with a laugh. causing her to pout and scamper off into the school. He stood back up to his full height and couldn't notice a group of 'nesses were watching him, their eyes all on him as they swooned. Something about a drake dropping his loved child off at school seemed to make them all a bit flustered.

"Morning nesses" he said with a slight nod of his head. He could feel their eyes on him as he turned away from them and returned to the launch pad. With a bound and a large flap he took to the skies once more. He slowly flew across the city, taking in the sights and sounds before slowly making his way to a flower shop that sold the freshest flowers.

As he opened the door, he heard a bell ring, the scent of flowers flooded his nostrils and he looked across the store to the counter, a portly ness stood behind the counter and looked at him, her yellow scales blending in with the flowers in the store. "Ah, it must be Wednesday" she said and started to prepare a bunch of flowers.

"You know me too well" He remarked as he looked amongst the shop.

"Teal and white right?" She said, his routine was always the same but she always asked.

"That's the one" He said while he waited.

She wrapped up the flowers in a bouquet and slid them across the counter. "Same time next week?" she asked as she took the money from Neebis.

"And every week" he said with a smile.

He tucked the flowers into a pouch on his harness and left the store, the bell dinging as the door closed. He looked around and saw not many people on the street so he took to the air from the store instead of using a launch pad. Trash on the ground swirled with his wing beats as he took to the sky and aimed towards the marketplace where he first met Reevian.

The sun was refreshing and warm on his wings and back as he flew, Thinking back he couldn't really remember what it was like back at the farm, as the city was now the place that he called home.

As he landed at the market place it was teeming with activity, People and dragons were milling around checking out the wares of the street vendors. It looked so different to how it was when he first came here, the tired timber stalls had been replaced with rustic black steel beamed structures, timber was still used but only as decoration. Even though it was daytime there were strings of lights hanging from the stalls, giving the whole marketplace a magical like atmosphere.

Neebis paused mid stride to give way to a dragon who had a large harness around his chest for carrying food, the familiar logo of Grub-Wrym embossed on the side of it. Neebis smiled to himself, even though it was no longer his company, he got a great sense of pride of what he had created. He slowly made his way across the market to the center, a few vendors noticed him and gave him knowing nods which he returned.

In the center of the market there was a large shrine with a plaque on it.

'This monument is dedicated to the events of Wednesday the 14th of August 2014 where a gas leak caused the destruction of the markets. Thanks to the generous donations from private individuals the market has been rebuilt and continues to serve the community'

Neebis knew the plaque well and could recite the words off by heart, and the memories of that day still haunted him in his sleep.

"Fuck you're cute" Said a familiar voice.

Neebis turned to the dragoness who spoke and smiled.
