Max accepted the bottle of beer his stepfather handed him. His hooflets clicked against the ice-cold glass. He drew it across his brown and white furred forehead, enjoying the cold touch against his sweat slick fur. Looking around, he shrugged then slammed the top of the bottle on the railing, the cap flying off and clattering to the old timber deck. With a nod to his stepfather, the young paint colt upended the bottle and swallowed it down in two quick gulps.

"Easy there colt," Finn chuckled, the larger, bay equine grunted good naturedly. "Just because you're old enough, doesn't mean you can handle it. We done good work today,"

Sitting down, Max set the empty bottle down and leaned back, unbuttoning the wet shirt that clung to him, he draped his elbows over the edges of the wooden chair and leaned back, cocking one hoof over the other.

Taking another bottle from the cooler, Max slapped the top off and this time, was more patient with his drinking.

"What's the matter old timer? Can't keep up?"

Finn nickered in laughter. "Son, I was drinking from the moment I was born, you don't want to play no games with me!"

As the sun began to set over the distant fields, the two anthropomorphic equine's drank it in - and drank almost to excess

"Urgh, no, no more..." Max grunted, as he swayed from side to side, then placed a splayed fingered paw against his forehead."

With a grin and a nicker of laughter, Finn emptied his own bottle, then stood up and stretched languidly. Max glanced sideways at his stepfather, who at forty-two, had the physique and strength of a stallion half that age. Wire-like muscles moved in his arms, across the furred back they were harder than steel and Max shuddered and looked away.

"Don't think I didn't see that - " Finn grinned, then postured in macho pride, flexing his arms and chest. "A life of hard work and even harder living, made me the stallion I am today!"

"I don't doubt it, dad - " Max grunted, then leaned back and let his head fall back against the headrest of the chair. "Urgh, why'd I agree to this?"

"Hah, colt won't keep up, can't step up!" His stepfather teased him good-naturedly. "That's good, I don't want you turning out like my father! A good for nothing, mare and colt beating...well..."

Max shuddered, regretting what was said, but his stepfather's anger faded like the last rays of the sun behind the hills.

"So, I've been meaning to ask..." Finn looked sideways at Max, who opened one eye and then both of them, something in the older stallions tone of voice getting his undivided attention. "You're...not like me..."

"Well, we're both horses, and..." Max muttered, then shook his head and frowned.

Finn pushed off the railing, then turned around and pulled his belt off, then let the torn and faded jeans slip down his thighs. Stepping out of them, he stood as naked as the day he was born, the beautiful bay colours of his body blending beautifully with his dark gloves and socks.

"Get comfortable why don't you?" Max laughed.

"Why not? Now...as I said...you're not like me..."

Max's laugh died in his throat, before he frowned in consternation.

"Son, trust me, I know more than you think I do. I may be getting long in the tooth and not as quick as I once was...but I know what I know, and my hearing is just as sharp as it always was. You're not a stallion..."

"I - " Max protested, then his ears betrayed him and went flat.

"What? You want me to rave and scream and say no god-fearing-son of mine will grow up to be some faggot?" Finn grunted.

"It's..." Max began to protest, before he turned his head to look over his shoulder at his stepfather. "You're..."

"Angry? Disappointed? Both? No... You love who you love, that's how it should be! Oh, and just a little information for you - next time you and Blossom out in the stables... you know, just saying..."

Max's ears went instantly flat, and his nostrils flared.

"YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT?" Max squealed.

"Hah, think you're the first colt, to share yourself with a feral mare? Really? However, that's not only what I'm referring too son, you _really_need to be a little more - cautious, in where you hide certain things..."

Max's eyes tripled in size and his muzzle fell open.

"Poor old Gertie...I swear, I've never heard a Doe Goat make _those_noises before, you nearly put her in hospital when she found it, whilst cleaning!"

"Oh my god - " Max murmured. "Dad, I mean, I can..."

"Explain?" Asked the elder stallion, as he shrugged. "What's to explain? I had known for years, son, that you were more a mare, than a stallion - if you take my meaning..."

Max blushed, then buried his head in his paws.

"As I said son, you love who you love - or _what_you love. I got to ask though, well, that... really goes where I think it does?"

Max scuffed the wooden verandah and coughed shyly. "Yes, I - enjoy it, it's not like I can just go down to the bar and... you know..."

"Huh, do I ever - not exactly the most friendliest people for those who don't conform to the stereotype... Now, as I've said, I'm not ashamed, angry or even disappointed - well - maybe a little disappointed..."

Max looked away, guilt written large on his muzzle and eyes starting to shimmer with tears for hiding his secret from his beloved stepfather.

"I'm not...gay, dad... I'm..." Max's weak voice reached the elder's ears.

"Bisexual," Finn grunted, then nodded wisely. "You like the mares and the stallions."

"Uh - " Max twitched and he shuddered. "Yes..."

"So?" Finn asked him, as he stepped over, then placed a paw on the quivering young colts shoulder. "You are more mare, than stallion, as I said - I confess, I'm really not surprised...considering that, well..."

Max's nervous laugh broke through the lump in his throat.

"I got one question, well - okay - two..." Finn asked, gently placing a paw on Max's chin, turning his head to look up into his eyes. "What's... you know, what's it like? I'm as straight as an arrow, never looked at another stallion in no sexual sense..."

"Just compared sizes, right dad?" Max laughed nervously, then sniffled and trembled.

"Still district champion, thirtieth year running - for length and girth!"

Max laughed, he couldn't help it.

"I've never - well, okay, once...had a young deer buck, I swear, he was so nervous, that night behind the old diner... amazing skill with tongue, but once he mounted..."

Finn laughed, as Max made a slapping gesture with his paws.

"Really? That quick?"

"Pah, quicker...was more time spent in discussion and foreplay, than actual lovemaking...mount, lunge, muffled squeal, done! Talk about disappointing!"

Finn doubled over, his flanks heaving as he struggled to draw enough breath. Even Max chuckled along.

"Thin as a pencil, and about as..." Max dissolved into laughter again, then wheezed and coughed.

Holding up a trembling paw, the Bay nickered and shuddered, before he wiped away tears.

For five minutes, the two stallions hugged and laughed, both with tears streaking down their muzzles, before at last the elder placed both paws on his step-son's shoulders and pushed him back.

"I've had my share of mares, and more than a few fillies... I've never had a 'mareish' stallion..."

Max's eyes quadrupled in size, his ears flattening as his muzzle fell open and he looked up into his stepfather's eyes, seeing the love and admiration in them.

"I...you..." Max's weak voice was almost inaudible.

"I want you to be happy, son... "

Timidly, Max took the Bay's paw in his own, then he nodded and blushed, before leading his stepfather inside, the old screen door squeaking behind them.
