Chapter 5

I awoke to a bright glow that lit the room. I looked around trying to distinguish what it was. At first, I thought it was the light of evolution, so I looked at Rose, but no, she was still asleep.

My eyes adjusted, and I realized the glow was the same color as Rose's fur and my hair, golden. My eyes finally lit upon my cloak. The light seemed to be coming from within one of the pockets. I rose quietly so as not to wake Rose, and walked cautiously to the cloak.

I slowly slid my hand into the pocket, and drew out the glowing dagger. As it left the cloak, it was brightened to such a degree that I couldn't look at it. Before I knew what was happening, I had slipped into the void, and I fell unconscious on the floor. My last thought was, 'Why does this keep happening?'

I awoke to Rose shaking me, crying and saying in Poké, "Alex! Alex wake up!" I gently placed a hand on her head. She stopped yelling, but continued to cry.

"Shush now, it's alright. What's wrong?" I said as soothingly as possible.

She continued in Poké, "Oh, Alex! When I woke up, and you weren't there, I got scared. Then when I saw you on the ground, not breathing, and holding a dagger, I-I-I-" She broke into a fresh wave of tears. It hurt me to see her like this. I got a wild idea. Gently, I pulled her face towards me. I looked deep into her wet brown eyes, and slowly closed mine. I moved forward and kissed her, full on the lips. She instantly stopped crying. It only lasted a few seconds, but to me it seemed eternity as I held her. We finally broke for breath, and she simply stared at me, crying far behind her. 'Alex, I... I don't know what to say.' she said, psychically.

"Then don't say anything." I kissed her again, just as the sun came up. Suddenly, a new light lit the room. This time, I knew exactly what it was. From reading a game guide for HeartGold, I remembered this, 'To evolve Riolu into Lucario, level it up with high love during the daytime.' In my arms, I felt Rose grow and change.

I could picture her in my head, but as I opened my eyes, even I was surprised. The spikes on her hands grew; the black markings on her face changed as her ears moved to become triangles on top of her head, her legs became longer and a spike had appeared between her around teen girl sized... aw, fuck it... breasts. Yea, go ahead. Get your laughs.

'What... what happened?' She asked in a new, more teen-like voice.

I almost couldn't speak. She was beautiful. "You... you evolved." I fell silent and I knew she could hear what was running through my head. 'She's gorgeous.'

She blushed and said, 'Thank you.'

I finally got a hold on my emotions and said, "Well, um, oh yeah. I suppose we should go and get me registered as a Pokémon trainer." I turned just so that I could stop staring at her. I could feel her following me. I lifted my cloak and put on my cloak.

As I pulled on my boots and buckled my sword and belt on, I realized I was still holding the dagger. The light from within it had vanished. It was slightly curved, with a golden hilt carved with intricate designs. The blade also had gold designs on it. "Why did you glow?" I asked, not expecting an answer. Of course, none came. What, you really thought I was going to make a talking knife? What would that be like whenever I cut someone? "OMG, there is blood all over my beautiful blade! FUCKING GET IT OFF THERE!" Yeah, right. Actually, that would be kind of funny... Without another glance at it, I shoved it into my boot. Surprisingly, it fit snugly in a spot I had made for a knife I had left at home. I stepped out the door, followed quickly by Rose. I began down the hall, thoughts constantly straying towards her. I finally made my way to the main desk.

"I see your Riolu evolved. Congrats. What can I help you with?

I said, "I'd like to turn in my room key. How much for the night?"

She simply smiled and said, "Free. Nothing could repay the dept I owe you. Can I help you with anything else?"

I was a little taken aback, but all the same I said, "Yeah, there I something. Could you keep this just between us?"

"Sure, what?"

"Well, as you obviously know, Rose isn't a normal starter Pokémon. I just started on my journey from far away. I'm... well... I'm not exactly registered as a trainer. Do you know where I can register?"

She masked her surprise and said, "Head South about twenty miles, you'll come upon New Bark town. Find Professor Oak. Tell him, 'Every rose has its thorn.' and he'll hear you out. Good luck!" She took me key as I said goodbye and left.

"So, Rose. You ready to run?" I said.

'Hah! You'll never keep up.' She said back. With that, she ran forward. 'She doesn't know what it takes to make me, me.' I thought. I ran forward, nearly twice her speed.

Her eyes widened and she gave out a, "Wha-" in Poké as I passed her. She put on some more speed, but she just couldn't catch me. I laughed as I speed on ahead, and did a couple flips. Unlike she, who was breathing heavily, I was still breathing at a nice, calm pace. In fact, I wasn't even at full speed. I continued along, unknowing that she was dropping far behind.

After about ten miles, I stopped to rest. A few minutes went by and I became worried that Rose had gotten hurt. After another few minutes, I was crazy with worry.

'I shouldn't have left her on her own. I'm her trainer, were supposed to stick together. Where is she, where is she, WHERE IS SHE?'

I leaped up and ran back down the path, looking left and right. I was literally out of my mind. I ran along yelling her name. I ran farther and farther until I was all the way back at the Pokémon Center! When I sat for a moment to rest, mind racing, I picked up on a rustling in the bushes behind me. I spun around to see...
