#2 of The King's Company: A DnD Style Story

Hello! Quick recap, in the prologue, we met the characters briefly, learned how they met, and started traveling together, and now their journey begins. By the way, I'd love it if there could be some level of interaction between the comments and the story, so, either leave a comment or DM me with something you might like to see show up in the series! Whether you could give me a character for side "encounters" with one of the main characters you like, maybe a monster you want them to face, (maybe a monster you want a side encounter with?) or maybe even a character that would be relevant to the story! No price involved, just has to be something I like the sound of, and would be interested in writing. (fair warning, for yiff scenes, I only do combinations of males, i.e. MxM, MxMxM, etc.) Anyways, hope yall enjoy Ch. 1!

Val

It was a beautiful day outside, he thought to himself, raising a paw to his forward to look around the city, seeing it in a new light now that he was finally on his quest! Becoming a King's Ranger was never an easy task, as you were expected to be the king's personal attendants, able to fulfill any job, at any time, ranging from things as simple as waiting on the king at dinner, to things like helping lead an advance, or commanding part of the king's army as necessary. He had... Strugged a bit with commanding a group, which, ni doubt was the reason he wasn't sent to do this alone, but he would do whatever it took to succeed, and bring glory to his family. A small snort behind him brought him back to his senses, and he turned and stuck his hand out to his... Compatriots in this endeavor. "Well, I think it's time we get properly introduced, seeing as we're going to be traveling together until this is seen through. I'm Val Grenwich, Ranger in training." The vulpine, what was his name... Tobia- the fox quickly snatched his hand, shaking it with both hands before dropping it, a wide grin forming on his face. "A good idea, I was just about to suggest it myself! I was shocked to hear this mission was going to be led by a potential King's Ranger! I can't wait to see your skills in action, my name is Tobias Potter, but you can call me Tobi." Val smiled in return, thinking about how Wizard Beatrice had talked about him, he was clearly a charmer, but hey, he'd take the praise. "It's nice to meet you, Tobi. I hope I don't disappoint."

He turned over to the ursari, who was practically glaring at him. Taking a deep breath, he continued, sticking his hand out to the bear. "Good day to you as well, and your name is?" The ursari seemed to consider just turning away for a moment, before a smile appeared on his face. Val smiled, relieved, before the guy grabbed his hand, his massive paw dwarfing his own, and grabbed it tightly, crushing his hand a bit. He knew it was a classic intimidation technique, so he showed off some of his own strength, squeezing in return, matching him. They eased off a bit, so Val relaxed, before the strength returned, greater than before, and he couldn't help wincing in pain, slowly extracting his hand from the grip. "Rengar." Val looked up, mildly surprised. The ursari met his gaze, the anger still smoldering in those eyes, but... Held back, without that same intensity as before. He gestured at the wulf's paw he had squeezed. "My name is Rengar, you earned it. Not bad, hotshot, you have a bit of fire in you, even if you're tiny." Val sat there for a moment, before shrugging, "Thank you, your strength is impressive, and I'm sure it'll be useful in the time ahead, but please, call me Val." Rengar laughed, flexing his shoulders a bit. Now that Val was a bit less nervous, though dang, his hand stung, he took a moment to appreciate his companions. Rengar was quite the imposing figure, especially with those tattoos adding an outlandish look. And Tobi was supposed to be a spellcaster, which would always be useful at some point. If they worked with him, this could actually go well. Tobi piped up, "So, Ranger, you're the one who was trained for this, how are we going to go about this?"

Rengar

After getting outside the castle, Rengar took a moment to look over the whelp that was "leading" him and the fox. Kind of a disappointing sight, this tiny nervous wulf was one quest from becoming a King's Ranger? The name held some respect to Rengar, as, even in his homeland he knew about the Rangers, the most skilled, personal soldiers of the king, and this wulf did not match up with the picture that presented in his head. The boy wanted to shake his hand. *The boy wants to play nice, but that isn't how the game is played in the real world.* he thought to himself, about to turn away before he realized he could test him a little bit. So he smiled, one that never quite reached his eyes, and took the hand, squeezing it a little bit. He expected the whelp to wince, or try and pull away, but instead they actually tried to squeeze back! He actually lessened the pressure in surprise for a second, before putting in pressure that had caused soldiers to scream, only getting the wince and pull away from the wulf. Begrudingly, he was slightly impressed, maybe the wulf was a bit above the average. He gave his name, before the pipsqueak fox spoke up. He could care less about the fox, spellcasting wouldn't help him with a battle-ax through the head, or the arms, or the legs, etc. Rengar didn't have a high opinion of spellcasters.

_ Tobias _

Tobi wasn't exactly worried. He'd been in a bunch of bad situations before, and he'd always manipulated them to his advantage. The geas made things harder, because he couldn't just disappear, but hey, the wulf was still green around the gills! Tobi could twist this guy around his finger eventually. He could see the reddening of the wulf's cheek as he got called a Ranger. He clearly liked the praise and attention, and that was something Tobi could work with. The bear was going to be harder, but the geas spoke of helping Val to the best of their ability, so if Val gave a command, it'd be difficult for Rengar to disagree, as much as he'd clearly want to. Val thought for a second, before speaking up, a mask of confidence on his face. "Alright, first, we have to locate the thieves' guild. They relocated after the last time they got too bold, and so far none of the trackers have been able to find them yet, despite the recent increase in activity. We just have to find where they maneuver from, so first, we should check the site of the last robbery. A caravan just outside of the Kingdom got assaulted by a large gang of robbers less than a day ago. We'll head out there and see if we can stir up anything, the trackers have been busy, and couldn't have gone over it." Tobi nodded, "Sounds like a plan!" Rengar grumbled something, something like, "If only I had a beer... Or seven." before following, as they set off.
