#1 of The King's Company: A DnD Style Story

Hello! This is the start of a new series I've been thinking about for a little while. It's a heavily DnD based story, with some events actually getting rolled out, (though I won't be getting into the actual nitty gritty of it, I will show the basic stats and class type for each character at the end of the prologue.) One note: I intend to keep the main story no-yiff, (though there will definitely be some suggestive stuff, or mentions) but I'm currently intending to have frequent side stories with... Encounters, hehe. Anyways, hope you enjoy! Please leave any feedback in the comments, it's all appreciated!

The bell rang, signalling arrivals to the great hall. The king, a human of great stature, in both meanings of the word, sitting on a large, ornate wooden throne, keenly watching the three figures walking towards him. On the left, the large ursari, staring straight forward, meeting the king's gaze directly, without a trace of fear, in fact, even with a slight sneer on his face, visible through the light brown color of his fur, with some lighter, almost silver patches. On the right, a smaller figure, yet still just as easy to see due to the gaudy, bright purple robe the vulpine was wearing, leaving the king idly wondering how he kept it clean through the jail, which didn't exactly get much upkeep in terms of cleanliness. He watched the fox as he stared at the drapings and tapestries adorning the walls, mouth agape at all the colors and new sights everywhere he turned. Finally turning his eyes towards the figure in the middle, the wulf hoping to become a King's Ranger, nervously adjusting his mottled green tunic against his dirt brown fur, even while attempting to seem confident as he strode forward alongside the others. Eyes the color of spun gold glancing around at the room, but keeping his awe to himself as he tried to remain professional, being in the king's presence for the first time. Reaching the dias, the wulf dropped to one knee, before the king signaled him to stand up.

The wizard standing to the right of the throne stepped forward, pulling a scroll from the depths of her robes, unfurling it as she cleared her throat. "Rengar Fulgrimm, arrested for starting a brawl in the tavern, injuring five patrons, and two guards before being taken in." the ursari grunted, shrugging his massive shoulders, swirls of tribal tattoos in various colors running down his arms to his chest. "Tobias Potter, arrested in a fit of rage by the guard captain for, ehem, sleeping with his wife." The vulpine jumped slightly, turning towards the wizard, and brushing his mostly flame-red fur, though a patch of white through the robe suggested a cream colored spot from his chest to his belly. He stepped one foot behind the other, and swept his arm in front of him in a graceful bow. "The ah, circumstances were greatly misunderstood, she never told me she had a husband, let alone the captain of the guard! If I could simply-" "Enough!" the wizard cut him off, "You're lucky you aren't being left down there, with your counts of magical shenanigans, and resisting arrest." the king turned to her, and said, gently, "Please, continue." she nodded, turning to the final figure, his eyes flicking towards the bear, then the vulpine, no doubt wondering why he was summoned along with criminals. "Val Grenwich!" he gulped, but saluted as he was taught, his hands crossing in front of his chest, forming two interlocking circles with his thumb and index finger, others splayed out to the side, forming the wing crest of the kingdom of Vilgo, the captial of the continent Estatia. "You have trained hard over the past four years, only needing your final quest to enter your position as a King's Ranger, the personal attendants and soldiers of the king. Today you get your quest, your journey begins to prove yourself." Pride sparking in his eyes, he nodded, eagerly listening. "You must find your way, through the depths of the city, find the thieves' guild, and put an end to their current leader. They've been growing bold as of late, and our trackers are busy with other matters, thus, it falls on you. You will have the aid of these two, if you can keep the scum in line. This will be a test of your tracking ability, and find out if you have the ability to adjust to any issues you may find along the way, all while managing those under your command, whatever..." her lip curled up in disgust as she stared at the people on either side of the trainee, "Whatever means you must use to keep them in line. Remember, the position you aim for is ambitious, you must be far above the common soldier, thus your quest will prove to be difficult, but you must pass high above the rest, get through this, and complete your training."

The vulpine raised his hands, the picture of bewilderment on his face, "W-Wait wait wait, pardon my impudence, but-" The ursari growled, "And why should I do any of this?" The fox, Tobias, tossing an annoyed look over at his eventual compainion, glanced back, "As I was saying, I have hardly commited any crimes, you said yourself the guard captain arrested me in a a fit of rage, sleeping with a woman isn't illegal, is it?" she glared at him, her cheeks reddening slightly, "I said you got *arrested* for that, yes, but you also lit a noble's clothes on fire, scammed multiple civilians out of their hard earned money, evaded arrest... Need I continue? However... The king is generous, and, if you work to complete this quest, you will be granted a full pardon, and will be free to go until you inevitably screw up again. Both of you. Do you understand?" the bear crossed his arms across his chest before grunting acceptance, the vulpine begrudingly nodding, and the wulf nodding slowly, having realized the weight of his difficult task alone, without having to try and command the two aside him, who would likely make things difficult every step of the way. Realizing he'd paused too long, he saluted again, "Understood, I will complete this mission, and my training." the wizard nodded, stepping forward, in front of them. "Step up to me, and put one hand on top of each others in a circle." She put her hands on top of the stack, and her blue eyes suddenly shined like a beam of light as she stared into each of their eyes, one at a time, the world seeming to melt away, as if everything was focused on the circle before them, before saying "I charge you to complete the task his majesty has set out before you, to aid Val Grenwich to the best of your power, and to take out the head of the thieves' guild by any means possible. Do you understand, and agree to this geas?" the figures each agreed, and slowly the world returned to normal. She stepped back, kneeling to the king before returning to her place at his side. "Do not even think of trying to run away, or avoid this, or the geas will take your life. If it does not, I will track you down, and end you myself. Do not waste mine, and through me, the king's time." after a moment to stare at each of the criminals, she continued, "Head to the armory, so each of you can get equipped as needed, and set out on your quest." At the armory, Val watched - having gear of his own - as the ursari, Rengar, selected a large battle-ax, entirely ignoring armor in favor of his... loincloth, and the vulpine, Tobias, giving a squeal of delight as he grabbed a blue orb from the floor. "My spell focus, so that's where that went!" Finally, they left the castle, each imagining what might lie ahead of them, each terribly, terribly wrong.
