The wind whispered across the surface of the water, bringing to life little waves as they danced and scattered across the watering hole. A tale as old as time, star crossed lovers born to different worlds that never should've met, but they did and it would change both their lives forever. It all started when they were both younglings, barely able to walk on their own two feet. Uzuri and Kiburi first saw each other's reflections in the gentle ripples of the shallow water before them. Their eyes raising to meet across the watering hole both of their tribes shared. Uzuri smiled at the young Sable Antelope across the water, only to watch as his mother admonished him for waving back at the little African Wild Dog girl. She was a young predator and they were never meant to mix, predator and prey could never be friends, the animosity between their kinds was as old as the sky.

As she grew older, Uzuri would still see Kiburi occasionally, when his tribes migratory path brought him back into their lands. His presence always brought comfort, alleviating a tension she wasn't aware she bore whenever he was out of her sight. Year on year they watched one another grow into adulthood, the only thing that never changed was how their eyes searched for one another whenever they visited the waterhole. As she had done the first time she saw the richly colored herbivore, she would smile and wave, just as he would do so too, despite how the others of his herd scorned him for doing so. Uzuri ignored the looks of disdain the others of her pack gave her as well; she also ignored the advances of the other males in her tribe as she grew into a young beautiful woman whom drove the males of her own kind crazy. Little did they know her heart had always belonged to another, no matter how hard they tried.

The older they both got, the bolder they became. Once they had their own independence and were able to be out on their own, they would eventually meet under a leopard tree in the pale glow of moonlight. The fireflies scattered about them as they moved toward each other through the long grass, making it seem as if they were dancing among the stars when they were finally in one another's arms for the first time. The first night they were finally alone, they stood face to face and looked upon one another with both familiarity as well as curiosity. They had never been so close to each other's species before; Uzuri making the first move as she reached out to touch at one of Kiburi's horns with burning curiosity. He too would become bolder, reaching out and gently brushing his fingers across her large sensitive ear, smiling at the way it twitched under his gentle touch.

Kiburi was tall and muscular, slender but well defined from all his journeys across distant lands. His coat a rich dark brown, so dark it was almost black. The white marks along his face made it appear as if someone had dipped their fingers in white paint and tried to draw parallel lines from around his eyes to his nose, but failed miserably as someone tickled at their ribs. They gave his expressions so much more character however, with his deep dark and soulful eyes, it felt like he saw into the very depths of her soul, from that first moment she was laid bare before him. His calm demeanor and easy smile instantly set the smaller canine at ease whenever she was around him, soon stirring a longing for something more inside the beautiful young woman.

Uzuri was a mix of slender and curvy, in different but exciting ways his own kind could not match. Her coat was a mixture of different colours, everywhere he looked there seemed to be a different pattern which caught and intrigued his eye. He'd expected her fur to be course from being out in the hot African sun every day, but she was surprisingly soft under his touch. The rich mixture of black, tan, and white patches appeared as if they had been personally painted by the Gods themselves for him to appreciate and enjoy. Her bright amber eyes sparkled like the finest jewels of the Savanna and her laugh was like the sweetest music to Kiburi's ears, a sound he craved to hear, even at the expense of his own pride.

Their first night together passed far too fast for their liking, before they knew it, the dawning sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. Reluctantly they left one another with the promise to return the next evening again, reluctantly making their way back to their tribes before their absences were noticed. Every waking hour apart felt like torture, their minds lingering on the recent memories of one another's touch and smile. The day was unbearably long before darkness finally returned and they could be with one another once more.

So it went on for weeks and months, finding every waking moment they could to be together. Uzuri and Kiburi knew they were in love; dreams were no longer as sweet as what they experienced in one another's arms while they were awake. The risk of being together was indeed high, but to Uzuri and Kiburi, the reward was worth it. They had even found an ancient Baobab tree, it's root like branches reaching up to the heavens as if beseeching them for rain and to end the recent drought which had ravaged the land. The inside of the massive trunk was hollow, wide enough for Kiburi to lay down stretched out, even with his arms above his head and still he was not able to touch the sides. The walls inside curved gently inward to form a dome above them, a small crack on the back side of the trunk allowed fresh air and soft light inside during the day, while they burned a candle for light at night. Uzuri would have to sit atop Kiburi's shoulders in order to reach the apex of the dome when they decorated it and made a more comfortable hiding spot to express their love for one another. With the aid of a finely crafted door to cover the small opening they crawled through to enter their hiding spot; they were able to talk freely as it muffled the sounds from within fairly well.

"We can never have children" Kiburi mused one night as he lay with Uzuri wrapped up in his arms, the smaller canine lay stretched out atop him with her chin at the center of his chest, his hands idly stroking along her back and shoulders. A smile played about her lips as she raised her head to stare up at her lover, fingers idly tracing along the ridges of his horns and down to caress his cheeks affectionately.

"If the Gods will it, we might. But as long as I have you, it's a sacrifice I am willing to make" Uzuri replied after a moment's contemplation. Kiburi saw the intensity in her eyes and knew she meant it with every fiber of her being too, it was a sentiment he shared wholeheartedly with her. Lifting and pulling herself forward a little, just enough to bridge the gap between their lips, Uzuri kissed Kiburi tenderly with every ounce of love and passion she had for him.

"If it made you happy, I'd fight the Gods themselves to make it happen" The Sable Antelope replied in the brief moment their lips parted, when their lungs demanded air. His dull nails scratched up along her back, tracing along either side of Uzuri's spine in that way which never failed to make her huff softly for him, her fluffy tail and ears twitching faintly in concert with her musical sounds of pleasure.

His touch never failed to ignite her passion for him; pulling herself firmer against the Sable Antelope, her claws dug into his shoulders as she pressed another impassioned kiss to his lips. Kiburi would gladly bare that slight pain of her needy grip on him, for he too would be gripping at her as well. A hand behind her head, fingers in her hair, he held the kiss long enough for their lungs to burn anew. His other at the small of her back, subtly lowering to grasp at the root of her tail to encourage the little needy rolls of her hips against his.

Their bodies began to move in a practiced symphony of love and lust, love drunk on one another as they touched, gripped and caressed every inch they could. Their lips remained locked, muffling needy whimpers and heated groans while Uzuri ground herself with growing need and desire against Kiburi. Likewise, the Sable Antelope firmly grasped at the root of her tail to press her slender form down against his, where they both needed and wanted it the most.

Just as it had many times before, Kiburi's desire made itself prominently known by almost lifting the smaller canine from his lap. Uzuri always grinned her little crooked grin while she stared at him with lidded eyes, growling softly and giving slow, undulating rolls or her hips back against it. He could feel her heat and desire plain as the horns on his head against him, even though she always played innocent. Her sharp incisors nipped along his neck, forcing his muzzle to raise for her while she hoisted her hips, a soft hand reaching beneath herself to guide him within her tight embrace once again. He loved the soft pain tinged whimper she gave against the side of his throat every time she took him like this, he was bigger than her own kind, almost too big. But he always filled her almost to the point of breaking, but not quite, it was an ache she would gladly accept a thousand times more, just to be with him.

Kiburi gently reached beneath and lifted her chin to press a kiss against her soft lips, holding about the small of her back as she sat impaled on him, their hips gently grinding against one another. There was no needy rutting, no race to the finish line, just a slow and languid pace of enjoying one another completely. As they made slow, passionate love; Uzuri's ears twitched at the sound of distant thunder rumbling on the horizon. Though with how fast and loud their hearts were beating, it was hard to distinguish which noise was which.

As the storm grew outside, so did the pace of their lovemaking. Soft whines and whimpers soon turned into impassioned groans and even pleas for more. Kiburi sat upright with Uzuri in his lap, his arms about her middle as he helped the smaller canine raise and lower in his lap, her eyes screwed shut tightly while she uttered a myriad of sounds between praising his name. With her lips out of reach, the Sable Antelope made due with kissing every inch of her he could. As their pleasure reached its peak, Uzuri raised her muzzle to the heavens and let out an almost deafening howl, her claws scratching along Kiburi's back and shoulders. As if acknowledging the act, the heavens let loose and a bright flash briefly shone through the gaps around their little doorway, followed soon by a thunderous boom loud enough to vibrate the walls of their hiding place.

The storm raged on outside, the midnight sky briefly shining as bright as day with every crack of lightning as its jagged fingers clawed through the darkness. The dry Savanna cried out with the gusts of winds tearing through the tree branches, the world outside the Baobab sounded ferocious and angry, as if a wild unseen beast stalked the lands in search of prey.

Uzuri sat in Kiburi's lap; his arms wrapped protectively about her as he tried to shield her as best he could from the angry world outside. Even when the flashes of light became a steady glow, he knew all too well what the acrid scent aggravating his nose was. The dry grasslands outside had been set ablaze by the lightning and it was now rapidly approaching them. Already he could feel the fires heat at his back, the coarse hair of his tail tuft began to wither and curl under the growing inferno surrounding their hiding place.

"I will always find you, in this life and the next. My heart belongs to you, it keeps me alive, but you give me purpose to live." Kiburi spoke aloud, almost shouting to be heard over the roaring of the flames dancing around there hiding place. Uzuri lifted her head, tears in her eyes as she gently cupped her palms under his jaw, pulling Kiburi into a deep and everlasting kiss.
