HAXORUS AND RAMPARDOS: EXTREME DINO GUTS

Some time later, thanks to the popularity of the club, many more Pokémon started joining. Two of them did so together, and this day they have arranged to have their own 'special' boxing fight. The two Pokémon in question are Rampardos, the grey dinosaurian Rock-type Pokémon, and Haxorus, the yellow-and-black dinosaurian Dragon-type Pokémon.

Both Rampardos and Haxorus sport muscled body builds that show they've been training for some time, albeit it's not among the best builds in the club. Rampardos has very muscular pectorals and arms, but his abs are barely toned. Haxorus's pecs and arms are noticeably less muscled than Rampardos, but his muscle build is more homogeneous, showing fairly toned abs to go with the rest of his torso.

Despite the 20-centimetre difference in height, both are looking forward to the fight with great excitement.

"I hope you're ready for this, buddy," Rampardos says as he enters the ring. His dark blue boxing gloves and trunks are brand new, and thanks to his own grey-and-blue shirtless upper body, the colour scheme is very fitting.

"Me too, me too. I'm gonna show you how strong and tough a Pokémon can be!" replies Haxorus, who is wearing more standard red gloves and trunks. They go in hand, pun intended, with the colour of his front claws. Not wearing a shirt either also shows his muscles to their best advantage. "So, do we make it as usual?"

"Yes, yes, as usual," Rampardos says with a lot of confidence. "Only hits to the stomach," he adds. Rampardos often boasts that his abdominal region is as rock-solid as his head. It's an obvious exaggeration, for no muscle could be sturdier than the bones, but he nevertheless attempts to impress Haxorus with it, and hopes the Dragon-type Pokémon will take him seriously.

Haxorus, however, doesn't seem impressed by it at all. The thing is, this is not the first time they've met. They have fought each other plenty of times, so Rampardos's boast about the resilience of his stomach isn't exactly novel to him. He knows that he's exaggerating and that Haxorus himself has a punch that would make even the most sturdy of abdomens fold. He does acknowledge, however, that even his own punching power is overshadowed by Rampardos's, for a succession of hard punches from him would leave anyone's abdominal muscles sore for days.

It's a fight anyone would love to watch... were it not for the fact they are in a club where stronger and more experienced fighters are present, so, despite the fact it's going to be a boxing fight with nothing but gut punches between two fighters with scary punching power, this event is mostly ignored.

They don't care, though. All they care about is in the other one's body - in a sporting way, of course! As in they want to see them fold under their fists, to feel how their punches impact and their opponent's midsection crumbles like a house made out of sand.

They start to do some warm-up exercises. Initially, they do them in front of each other, but they find themselves quickly distracted by the sight of each other, and decide to move away and do them individually, their backs turned to each other.

After they are done, they walk to the centre of the ring, tap fists, and start fighting. The rules are simple: only punches to the midsection are allowed, and the fight ends when either fighter finds themselves unable to continue.

"Let's get started then!" Rampardos shouts out. "And remember, only gut punches!"

"Yeah, yeah," Haxorus responds, raising a hand.

Knowing neither has the endurance to take too many of the other's punches to the gut, they first start carefully, slowly, circling each other. Rampardos needs this the most because he has the shorter arms of the two, and thus he has a shorter reach. If he wants to strike Haxorus with accuracy, he has to get in close, and that means he'll have to expose himself to the Dragon-type Pokémon's powerful blows.

He does it, either way. He steps close and throws a sideways hook to the right of Haxorus's stomach. The hit lands and Haxorus doubles over. Rampardos immediately follows up with another punch, this time to the left side of his stomach, but instead of the Dragon-type Pokémon feeling a fist land strongly on his midsection, it's Rampardos who instead receives a hit, from Haxorus, square on the upper half of his belly. The punch makes him cough a bit of saliva, and, with a hand on his midsection, he's forced to step back to recover. Haxorus's situation isn't much different, either, as, after the counterattack, he feels the effects of the previous hit he took. He too puts a hand on the left side of his stomach, and he too steps back, trying to regain composure.

Rampardos, once he assesses the damage he took from a single punch, decides to pile up the pressure again and goes forward with a straight punch to the centre of Haxorus's abs. The attempt fails, however, as the Dragon-type Pokémon moves backwards to dodge the attack. Rampardos, realizing he missed, tries to follow up with an uppercut to the upper abs, but the Dragon-type Pokémon manages to avoid the blow too, so he pulls himself together and takes a deep breath before throwing a punch to the stomach.

This time, the hit lands, albeit it's not as fierce as the first punch that landed. That being said, Haxorus has a 'problem' in these situations - when he takes a hit to the gut, regardless of how painful it is, rather than cover it or step back to avoid the next punch, he tends to simply stay there, unwittingly keeping himself open for more hits. Rampardos knows this, and quickly throws two harder punches to the stomach, one to the right and the other to the left.

Haxorus does not react in time and the two punches land square in his gut. He lets out a groan and bends over, yet again offering his midsection for further hits. Rampardos doesn't hesitate to oblige, and he delivers an uppercut to the upper abs. Haxorus groans louder and finally reacts, retaliating with two hooks to Rampardos's stomach.

Both hits are hard and fast, with Rampardos too occupied in his own punches to notice the incoming ones. High punching power, a relaxed belly and subpar resilience mean those hits hurt, with Rampardos's assault being interrupted, and too shocked from the punches to avoid a hit to the left side of his belly. That leaves him reeling in pain, and forced to clinch Haxorus. For a few seconds, the two fighters are locked in a hug of sorts, both gasping for some air.

"What's up, 'strong' boy?" Haxorus asks with a hint of sarcasm. "You need to learn to take it like a man."

"You mean leaving your toned abs wide open for me to hit them as you do?" Rampardos replies, with an unintentional compliment along the way.

"Meh, whatever. At the end of this, I'll be looking at your downed body from above!"

And with those comments, the two break from the clinch, get some distance and resume the fight.

Both know that, with their punching power and their low tendency to dodge or block, they won't be able to last long against each other in such close quarters, so they need to strategize. But strategy is something Rampardos does not do, so he quickly steps in to throw several jabs at Haxorus's abdominal muscles. The Dragon-type Pokémon dodges by stepping back, but he does it so many times he quickly finds himself in a corner. He only realizes after his stomach has felt three more hits, but Rampardos isn't done with him yet, and he rushes forward to deliver another straight punch to the stomach, followed by two quick uppercuts to the upper abdominals.

The hits land, the fists landing on the fairly hard but still fleshy stomach emitting sounds like the clapping of hands. Haxorus's fairly deep voice, with each hit that lands on his gut, lets out a series of grunts and groans, each one more intense than the previous one.

Despite the pain he feels from each of Rampardos's punches, which are a little way more than he should have let him land, with a quick circling manoeuvre, Haxorus turns from being cornered to being the one that is in control, pushing Rampardos to the very corner he was in before.

"Gah!" Rampardos yelps once he realizes he is in trouble. "Uuugh!" He groans when one of Haxorus's fists lands in a hook motion to the lower centre of his stomach, and then another to the right side, just below the ribcage.

Rampardos knows he needs to escape. He tries to do so by throwing counterpunches at Haxorus's belly. The first is a hard straight punch to the middle. It connects, and the sound it makes as it hits can be heard all around the boxing ring, and so can Haxorus's vocalization of pain at the hit. Despite that, the Dragon-type Pokémon does not relent and connects another punch to the same spot, and this time it is Rampardos whose grunt can be heard throughout the arena.

With Rampardos in the corner, trying to escape, and Haxorus attempting to capitalize on his advantage, the two fierce dinosaurian fighters begin a noticeable exchange of blows on each other's midsection, with varying styles and techniques, and with both Pokémon taking damage from every punch that lands.

However, with their strong hits and less than ideal resilience against body blows, someone is forced to clinch fairly quickly, after around half a dozen taken hits, to get a breather: it's Rampardos again, wrapping his arms around Haxorus so that, even if for a few seconds, he stops getting punched in the gut.

"Again?" Haxorus asks, trying to smirk when he's not panting. "Whatever happened to your claim that your abs were 'unbreakable'?"

Rampardos wipes some sweat off his head before answering. "I'm afraid you're going to find out how wrong you are."

"Oh, I think we've both already found out that much," the Dragon-type Pokémon replies. He winks at the latter, and they share a moment of silence. He gives Rampardos some pats on the back before breaking off the clinch and stepping away, as per the rules.

They both take a second or two more of respite, then the fight resumes. The first to move is Rampardos, wanting to score some quick jabs and hooks on Haxorus's gut. Stepping quickly, he throws a rather wild punch that catches the taller Pokémon on the left side of his abs, causing him to wince and flinch slightly in pain.

Haxorus, however, retaliates immediately and manages to connect with a hard hook to the same place, but Rampardos doesn't seem to mind the blow. Instead, he replicates the previous attempt on the right side, causing the Dragon-type Pokémon to double over in pain. His tendency to not get defensive after receiving the first hit to the gut is, yet again, to blame, since he doesn't block or dodge any of the next ones, which land with similar force.

Haxorus is forced to retaliate with an uppercut to Rampardos's upper abs, which the Rock-type Pokémon takes pretty hard, coughing a bit of saliva and stepping away. Once he does so, however, Haxorus kneels down in a sign of pain. He's panting, gasping for air. Rampardos isn't much better, doubled over and clutching his belly, but he nevertheless looks at this as a sign that he's winning.

"Can't go anymore?" Rampardos asks mockingly but then lets out a moan of pain.

"You... You can..." Haxorus says, and he's clearly not doing well because his voice is hoarse. Still, he stands up, albeit wincing. "You can take that as a reference on how you will kiss the mat when... hah... I hit you..."

Rampardos snorts. "Bring it, if you think so."

Haxorus smirks and closes into Rampardos, who tries to take advantage of this with a pair of hard jabs to the middle of Haxorus's abs, but the Dragon-type Pokémon dodges and instead lands two hard uppercuts on the Rock-type Pokémon's stomach. Rampardos tries to clinch again, but Haxorus steps away and Rampardos unceremoniously drops to the floor, still holding his stomach in agony.

Haxorus steps away, also holding his stomach, not even looking at Rampardos. His own pain is enough to keep him away from looking at Rampardos, but when he hears the Rock-type Pokémon cough loudly and heavily gasping for air, he wonders if he aimed a little too high and might have hit him twice in the solar plexus. Just one knocks all the air from one's lungs; two hits are something that Rampardos is lucky to stay conscious afterwards. "Are... are you okay?" Haxorus asks in-between winces and groans, to Rampardos with genuine concern.

"You... knocked all the wind outta me," Rampardos replies, albeit it's barely audible between wheezes and gasps. He stands up, ready to fight again. "I... I am not... not... not done!" He barely manages to say.

Haxorus was content with the fight ending at that point, but if Rampardos wants to keep going, then he'll gladly oblige, and he does. However, the two powerful blows have significantly dented Rampardos's stamina, and his movements, which were already slower than Haxorus's, become more sluggish, and he seems to be having trouble keeping his balance.

Haxorus, meanwhile, has recovered enough to stand back up and, even though he's been punched in the stomach several times now, doesn't seem to mind the hits.

Rampardos's drop in stamina means that, even though he lands the next hit on Haxorus's abs, the punch itself is weaker, and the Dragon-type Pokémon takes the blow without difficulty, despite his own winded status. This allows Haxorus to retaliate with a hook to the left side of Rampardos's gut, and the Rock-type Pokémon's body jerks in response, opening it for another shot.

The Rock-type Pokémon tries to counter with an uppercut to the upper abs, but Haxorus sidesteps and delivers a hard straight hook to the middle of Rampardos's stomach, causing him to cough even more saliva, and while he does not drop to the mat, he's left reeling and open for attack.

Rampardos tries to recover by throwing himself forward and hitting the Dragon-type in the gut with both fists, but he's too slow and Haxorus easily dodges the incoming blows. A punch to the right side of Rampardos's abdomen sends him stumbling backwards, and the Rock-type desperately replies by landing a hook on Haxorus's midsection. That makes Haxorus double over and groan in pain, but he counters with a hook on his own. This hit causes Rampardos to stumble and fall to the ground, clutching his belly, lying on the mat back-first.

Haxorus walks towards his natural corner, patiently waiting to see if Rampardos has any more determination to keep fighting despite being in such a bad state.

Rampardos, however, is still trying, and he gets up with a grunt, coughing and spluttering... only to then drop face-first again. "Ugh..."

"Just give up," Haxorus tells him bluntly. "After those hits, it's a miracle you're even standing."

"I... I will... not... surrender... yet!" Rampardos insists, struggling with every word to get up, to no avail. Eventually, he admits defeat. "I... can't..."

"Ah, finally!" Haxorus spreads his arms, takes off his gloves and walks towards Rampardos, looking to help him get up. "Good fight."

"Phew... good job," Rampardos manages to say, being propped up by his opponent. His chest heaves as he breathes deeply, and he's sweating profusely.

The two fighters are yet again in a clinch-like hug, but this time it's a congratulatory hug between two competitive friends, and they both smile at each other.

Haxorus looks Rampardos in the eyes and asks, "You alright?"

Rampardos nods and smiles. "Yeah..." He takes off his gloves and turns the clinch into an embrace. "You are tough..."

"So are you. You really put someone on the ropes despite your short arms."

Rampardos chuckles and gives Haxorus a light tap to the shoulder.

Haxorus laughs and grins. He's not aware, but both he and Rampardos are blushing lightly. "You know, Rampardos, there's something I'd like to say about us..."

Rampardos looks up with intrigue. "Hm?"

Haxorus leans his head down and whispers in his ear, "It's that we have been boxing for so long, and we've always competed against one another... But lately, we seem to be getting along better than before."

"Yes..." Rampardos agrees quietly, smiling slightly.

"Our fights got us so close that I've started to feel that..."

Haxorus's words are interrupted, however, when he hears someone clearing their throat. It's Dragonite. "Listen, I'm not against you two having some sort of relationship," he begins to say, which makes the two fighters blush, but of embarrassment. "But the boxing club isn't the place for that kind of thing. It's a fine thing to have, you two are strong and determined fighters, but if you want to do so, pick a different place."

Haxorus and Rampardos don't answer. They are just too shocked that he seemingly knows what they're doing. That they had secretly held onto their feelings for each other, and Dragonite knew.

"I repeat, it's all fine if you have a relationship, but here, we fight, not love," Dragonite says, and then he leaves...

For almost a minute, Haxorus and Rampardos look at each other, still in the hug. Then, they laugh awkwardly.

"Well, after this pummeling I was thinking of going home..." Rampardos suggests. "If you wanna come with me, though, it's all good."

"Sure!" Haxorus replies, and they leave the ring together.
