It had been three years. Three long years. Yet, finally, they had come back together again.

Dawn, a white fox, leaned against the plane window as it set down in Heathrow, though it was not as if him doing that was going to get the plane to land any more quickly than it already was. It had just been so long since he had seen Miller, his partner, his boyfriend, though Dawn swore that their bond was even stronger than it had been before, even if he would not have chosen to have such distance between them if he had had a choice in the matter. But both work and Dawn's studies had called them apart and there was little he could do about that, not when the distance, at long, long last, was finally ending.

The airport security side and collection of his luggage was tedious, drawn-out as if he was being deliberately kept away from Miller, though Dawn held on through it all. It was all worth it, after all, to see the smile spread across the American Shorthair feline's face as Dawn ran into his arms.

"Miller!"

"Hey now!"

Miller laughed, though still spun his boyfriend around in his arms, as if it was their very first date and he was trying to impress the white fox all over again. Yet it was perfect, exactly the way it was, ignoring the curious looks and stares of others trying to move and make their way through the airport at the same time. They didn't need to worry one little bit about what anyone else thought of them, not at all, not when they were back together, his nose buried in the cat's neck, inhaling his scent, memorising every part of him that he had been forced to miss for so long.

It was as if things had never happened, as if they had never been apart - and yet they could not ignore it either. Not as their hands clutched and grabbed at sleeves and waists, hips and shoulders, trying to remember where the lines and the edges of their bodies lay, though they would have more than enough time with each other to become reacquainted once more.

"Come on!" Dawn said at last with a smile, though he was loathe to break the embrace, even if the closeness between them remained. "We should go - are we going back to your place?"

"Yes," Miller said, though the cat had such a firm grip on Dawn's hand that, honestly, the fox was starting to lose feeling in it. "It's a bit of a train ride still, sorry."

"Don't be sorry," the fox said, dropping a kiss on Miller's lips - chaste but the first of their reunion. "Any time with you is good time."

Sometimes, words could be that simple and didn't have to be anything more. There was so much more to be said in the touch of their hands, how Dawn's fingers stroked ever so gently over the back of the cat's paw. All they wanted was to be close to one another and they finally had that again, sitting close and going over the trip, the travel, as the train rushed along, carrying both along with one another.

There was not much to catch up on, to be fair, considering that they had had so many calls and video chats and gamed together so much during their time apart. Just because they had to be apart for work and study did not mean that they did not spend time together or have time together. It was different, like that, but it was the physical touch and presence that they wanted to lean into more than anything else, soft words exchanged between them as the fox and the cat kept their muzzles close together. So close, even, that the white fox had to pull back a little with a soft giggle.

"Hah..." He tried not to laugh, but still could not keep the quirk of a smile from his lips. "You... Mmmph, that tickles - your whiskers!"

Miller kept a little more distance between them after that, though grinned cheekily.

"You love it really, sweetie," he teased. "You'll be wishing that there was still a bit of distance between us after staying with me for a month!"

Dawn could not imagine that happening, simply glad to spend time with the cat as he relished in the simple sensation of feeling the feline's warmth against him. Oh, to have a solid body there... It was delicious and he drank in the sensation as if he could suck the warmth into his body, though Miller gave him more, always more. The train, thankfully that day, was toasty warm and they didn't have to worry about the chill of the outside world, caught in the grip of winter and a grey one at that.

In there, it was rosy and bright, showing them what was going to come together, repeatedly, Dawn soon to find his place, of course, so that Miller and he could adjust to being together again, despite everything that had passed between them. They were a couple, yes, but that didn't quite mean that either the fox or the cat were ready to live together full time. Soon, however, they hoped to, Dawn only picking up a six-month lease so that they could do the normal couple things again: date, spend time together, but still have somewhere to retreat to.

Distance was one thing, but having no distance at all when they lived in the same place, well...that was going to be another challenge for them, a big change to the status quo. It was just a good thing that they were both sensible in that regard, though it helped a little that they had work to occupy them - and, of course, Dawn had to figure out his next steps too, whether he was going to work or study further.

That could wait, however, for that day. That perfect, beautiful day of coming back together, as Miller finally led Dawn back up the steps to his home and took him inside. The smells were soft in there, pulling at his nose, everything speaking of Miller, as if the cat had been infused into every last little bit of his home.

"This is perfect," Dawn said, the fox simply unable to even think about keeping the smile off his face. "It's so...you! I'm so glad to be finally back here, with you."

Miller smiled.

"It's all yours too, sweetie, anything that's here please feel very welcome to."

Dawn couldn't imagine just going ahead and using anything of Miller's without, at the very least, checking if everything was okay. But that was just the kind of fox that he was and he kissed his partner tenderly on the cheek, brushing his lips down closer to the cat's lips without closing the distance.

Not quite.

"How about a shower together?" Miller suggested, the cat squirming a little, a little shy - but that was only from their time apart. "I think...it would help."

"To get warm?" Dawn teased him in turn, but it was all gentle, light-hearted, the kind of softness that would so very often be played back and forth between them. "Or...to be closer?"

Miller blushed and half-turned away, though he still clasped the fox's hand tightly between his own.

"Maybe...both?"

They took their time undressing in the adjoining bedroom, alongside the bathroom, though the place was more than warm enough that they were both comfortable being there in nothing but their fur. It gave them a little something to cover their nudity with, though it was not always that easy to be whole and comfortable in their skin, not quite in that way. It was tricky to come together again after so long, but soft kisses and tender touches went an awfully long way towards bridging the old gap between them.

They slipped into the shower, the water set to the perfect temperature for them both, even though it was slightly uncomfortable for them at first as the water slicked down their thick fur to their bodies. It revealed more about them too, in their nudity, the definition of light muscling, though neither of them was particularly developed when it came to muscle.

Dawn kissed Miller in the shower, properly that time, his lips parting to invite the raspy flick of his tongue up against his. They kissed, long and slow and deep, water trickling over their muzzles and into their mouths, though neither minded the added lick of tickling sensation. He whimpered, leaning further into the kiss, everything so much more real there, with more sensation to lean into, though it could be considered distracting too.

That was okay though. They would have plenty of time, a lifetime, to remain in touch with that solidity of feeling, how even the brush of wet fur on fur could feel exotic and exciting and so very new. As if it was too much pressure, all at once, something that both the feline and the vulpine would have to become used to again, all in good time.

Yet it was wrapping his arms around the cat that felt the most real to him, even though there was no sexual edge to it. They giggled and laughed and kissed and Dawn hugged Miller close to him, tightening his grip.

"I'm never going to let you go again," Dawn professed, even if he did know, truly, that there would be times again in the future where they had to be apart once more, despite coming together again. "You're going to be tired of me in no time, darling..."

"Mmm, no," Miller said, clarity in his conviction, stroking the longer line of the fox's face. "No... I won't ever be tired of you, don't worry. I will never, ever want to be away from you, not ever again."

The fox found himself with his lips on the cat's, kissing him warmly. He needed that, needed the closeness, their arms going more tightly around one another, despite the wet fur. Where it was uncomfortable it could not ever be, not with the cat against him, not with that closeness, the warmth and the pressure of a body that he loved against him.

Miller purred, his throat rumbling with love, though he drew in Dawn tightly, his arms tighter and tighter. Dawn wished that he could find the words needed to truly reassure him that he wasn't going anywhere, that he was always going to be there for him, but the closeness of their bodies was the best thing that he could do, even then.

He sighed, breathing in the clean prickle of water against his nostrils, the fox's tail wagging back and forth faintly, even though that was an altogether more canine action to take. That didn't matter, nothing mattered, nothing at all mattered as long as he had Miller there with him.

And he would spend hours upon hours memorising every curve and muscle and line of the cat's body, again and again. But that time, in the shower, was just to cuddle, just to be close to each other, just to enjoy the moment, nuzzling and nipping, kissing softly, even as the cat's whiskers tickled his nose.

It was a sensation that he would become very used to, unable to stop his wide smile as he kissed the cat's throat, right at the spot where his purrs emanated from the most strongly. He splayed out his fingers lovingly on the feline's chest, though there was only a chaste, soft edge to their romance, longing to take in every moment of the reunion, all so that he could play it again in his mind, many times over, when he needed it. Dawn didn't know when that would ever be needed, not when he had the cat in his arms, though they still, surely, had their lives to live.

"I've got you," he breathed, though the fox was not sure that the cat heard him over the rush of the water. "I've always got you, sweetheart... I'll always be here for you."

In return, Miller purred more strongly still.

It had been a long time, too long, but the closeness of their reunion was only just getting started.
