Exo Suits

Description/Design History: Exo Suits are the precursor to modern day power armor, in fact the first suits of "power armor" were simply converted exo units by the first Knight Orders. Exo suits are generally used for hazardous maintenance tasks that take place in the void, harsh locations onboard starships and stations, mining ore, construction work and so on. However the use of exo suits as weapons is far more common then the use of power armor, with fairly little if any engineering an exo suit can be equipped with a variety of weapons and tools, typically heavy machine guns mounted on a limb or shoulders, large caliber rocket or missile launchers and autocannons are by far the most common in terms of military-grade weapons, but more advanced equipment has also been used which ranges from fusion and plasma weapons(often single use) to high-energy demanding railguns and phasers but these latter instances are not the norm. The most common armaments are often crudely fitted general-purpose machine guns which are mounted in sets of one or two, large flamethrowers with armored fuel canisters, improvised large bore cannons that fire shot that ranges from bits of junk like a ramshackle shotgun to artillery shells that can kill heavily armored targets. In addition to these weapons the exo suit can also wield it's tools in combat which the user will put to devastating use as they can go toe-to-toe against even the Knights of the various Orders. These tools range from heavy diamond-coated saws used to cut through dense rock to get ore, tungsten-capped mining drills, seismic jackhammers, launchers that throw demolition charges, large rivet guns and welding guns used to bring metal beams and panels together.

Yet despite all of their capabilities and strengths, exo suits come with a list of issues. First despite the name these units are not really suits similar to power armor, they are actually a bipedal vehicle that ranges from three to five times the size of a normal suit of power armor, indeed many exo's are not humanoid-shaped at all as they use almost every known form of propulsion which includes quad or even more sets of legs, caterpillar treads, hover and plasma jets. As a result an exo suit is actually unwieldy for an inexperienced user and requires a lot of training even for the units basic function, also exo suits are not fast machines and are very slow with heavy reaction times and given their very robust design work are hard to maintain. Even with these disadvantages though, many pirates, merc companies, many militaries and even some modern day Knight Orders make use of these juggernauts as front-line units or in a support role.

Power Armor

Description/Design History: Power armor is used for personal protection and it sees extensive use by numerous factions. The first suits of power armor were created tens of thousands of years ago, based on industrial exo-suits at the time and slowly mass production models were created, such as the MP-45 with still more unique and advanced suits such as Magnum's Albion suit. Unlike Exo Suits and Armor Pods, suits of power armor are by far the most versatile as they can be a general purpose platform or even specialized to meet a certain task or a form of combat function. The general principals of power armor is that it fits the form of it's wearer, adorned in some form of armor and as the name implies uses powered servos of some form, this means that power armor is less of a classification and more of a catch-all-term.

When it comes to powered suits, they are by far thee most diverse as anyone with the right tools and proper tech can make a suit, these range from primitive ramshackle platforms made from salvaged electric motors, rusted plates and improvised framework, to marvels of engineering that soars the stars and use high output energy weaponry. It should also be pointed out that while power armor that can be used in a vacuum is standard, there are forms that can't and while suits can fly or hover, not all suits can either due to construction, purpose or limited available tech. Also given the loose terminology, not all power armor requires advanced computer systems, air reserves and stabilizers to meet the definition either.

In terms of weapons and equipment, power armors can be equipped with a wide range of gear, since they are advanced suits of personal armor, they can wield standard infantry and personal weapons, but they can wield far heavier weapons and their ammunition with ease, such as miniguns, plasma cannons, small railguns, flamethrowers without worrying much about the fuel canisters, recoiless rifles and everything in-between to more controversial weapons such as small nuclear launchers to viral weaponry. For equipment, power armors can be equipped for flight and hover operations, electronic warfare, shield systems and various other systems can also be equipped.

Armor Pods

Description/Design History: Armor Pods are used in space to attack installations and other ships. Developed from colony construction units, Armor pods do have a few classifications as well as some strengths and draw backs. The only ones who can really afford to field these machines are well established empires and militaries, when used by pirates or even mercenaries they are either spoils of war, captured units or even status symbols until they fall apart from lack of proper care. Armor pods in essence are rapid assault craft and thus a lot of the same training can be applied to them, on another note is that every class is extremely fast given their powerful engine systems, making them excellent breakthrough units. Even with all the advantages armor pods have however, they have some very major drawbacks. First is they are very complex machines that are expensive to maintain and second is that they have a very short operational time, especially for the heavier units, all of this means that while these machines are formidable, very few can actually field them for any duration of time.

The exact time frame of when the first armor pods were created is largely up for debate, some claim their origins lie in that they were a last ditch plan in fighting off a pirate or even renegade knights, others claim that they started off being conversions of left over bomber parts to arm some carriers in hurry, another tale is that the first pods were simply custom machines made by a group of engineers for fun and this lead to their military adopting them before leaking the designs to the wider universe. The more likely explanation though

Regardless of their possible origins, armor pods have a deadly reputation as even the light classification has a great amount of armor for their size and firepower to match a squadron of fighters with ease, while the heaviest are practically zooming bastions of weapons and armor that are infamously effective in destroying even capital ships at times.

In terms of armament armor pods can field a range of heavy weaponry, rail and gauss guns are mounted for sniping and anti-material ship roles, rotary cannons that range from 20mm to 35mm are standard instead of any kind of machine gun, though the assault classes are known to have machine gun turrets depending on modal and manufacturer as a measure of point-defense, starting from the medium class and up can be armed with far more potent weapons, from smooth-bore and rifled cannons like those found on tanks to missile and rocket pods, torpedo launchers, plasma and particle cannons are uncommon but have been used and close combat weapons such as claws and saws have also been observed.

In terms of operation unlike exo suits and power armor, the issue with armor pods is that they are extremely difficult if not impossible to control in atmosphere without very sophisticated computers or a very experienced pilot with the pod itself needing an areodynamic construction and many menuver thrursters and so are used exclusively for combat in the void of space unless there is no other option in using them or the crew are crazy, suicidal or both.

Classes:

Light Class: Pods in the category are used for scouting and sniper operations but depending on configuration can also be used as hit-and-run or rapid assault units, most only have one crew but some of the more specialized ones have a crew of two or even three at most.

Medium Class: Medium clasdification units, these pods have moderate armor, weaponry and range, making them exellent workhorses and all of them are modular in design so that they be given different equipment to furfil different roles with a crew of three being standard fair.

Heavy/Assault Class: These armor pods are the mailed fist and the deadliest of all the pods, these machines are armed to the teeth and armored like a heavy gunship. The smallest of these have a crew of four while the largest have a crew of as many as ten to around fifteen.
