This is a writing prompt given to me by my writer's guild. The prompt was an event or scene in detail. Comments are always welcome.

I sat there staring at the little flame that danced before me atop the wick of a candle. The small, flickering, wavering light had burned its image into my retinas many hours ago. The room was dark save for the light given off by the burning candle before me. A little river of liquified wax ran down the shaft of the candle and pooled around the candle base before cooloing and resolidifying into a creamy, opaque puddle. The candle's scent, french vanilla, was extremely intoxicating to me. But I wanted something new. Slowly, I reached out with my left hand toward the flame. The heat intensifying with each passing millimeter. My hand hoverd above the little fire for a moment, just taking in the feeling of the wonderful heat. Without warning, I quickly clamped my hand around the top of the candle. Ignoring the light burning sensation as the flame began to die and then cease to exist. I waited. Then as suddenly as I had grabbed it, I released my grip. The smell finally came to me. The sweetness of a french vanilla scent was slightly different as the smoke of the newly extinguished candle diffused it throughout the room.

There was a knock on my door followed by a female voice full of love and sweetness, "Honey, it's time for diner." I smiled to myself and flipped on my desk lamp. As I opened my door and stepped out, I paused. My grin grew wider as I raised my left hand and snapped my fingers. Almost imediatly, the previously lifeless candle flared up as a new lively flame alit its top. I allowed a small laugh to pierce the silence. I had a deep secret. The best part was, nobody knew.

I will begin to publish these every few weeks if I get enough responses. I hope you liked it.
