Nightmare

Song woke up screaming. Sweat covered her body and her heart hammered in her breast. "Song, what's wrong?" Song blinked and turned her head to regard her bed-mate. What little light there was, he seemed to absorb it and he glowed softly. "Just a....nightmare." Song panted, catching her breath. She rested her head against his chest. Aiedail touched her brow, the chill soothing the heat coursing through her veins. Her breathing became less erratic and she nestled against him.

"Do Cith have nightmares?" Song asked him. Aiedail glanced across Song's body to regard the third member of the bed. Song turned around to regard the feline lying next to her. "Alia....sorry, did I wake you?" The dark-haired female regarded Song with her emerald eyes. "No...I wasn't sleeping very well anyway." Song leaned over her and began to kiss Alia's ears. Alia's eyes grew heavy and she was soon asleep.

"When I was younger, yes, but ever since I met you, I've had none." Aiedail closed his eyes and propped his hands on his knees. Song sat next to him, quiet. "You do know what happened to your mother, don't you?" He asked. Startled, Song glanced at him. "Y-yes...she died soon after I was born." Song looked away, a shadow obscuring her features. She nestled against Aiedail, settling into a comfortable position and tucked her head under his chin. He wrapped and arm around her waist and spoke softly to her.

"Every time I saw your face in my mind, you were in pain, or lost. I had no way to comfort you, no way to tell you everything was all right, even though it was a lie." Song twisted around, out of his embrace. They both fell back onto the bed, Song in a heap on top of Aiedail. She lifted her body off of his, but didn't move from over him. "There wasn't anything you could've done; you didn't even know who I was." She said. Aiedail stared up at her. "True, but I had a feeling I had seen you before, you look so much like your mother." "Could you keep it down to a dull roar? Some of us trying to sleep." grumbled a sleepy voice from next to them, almost into Aiedail's ear. Startled, Song and Aiedail glanced at Alia, who was lying on her side, gazing at them. "You know what? I think I'll just leave, so you two can have your private moment." Alia got out of bed, and strolled out of the room. Song sighed and shook her head. She still did not move. "As I was saying, you're special to me; Alia and N'rae as well." Song smiled and kissed him gently. Her body trembled and Aiedail put a hand on her back, pressing her close to him. She nuzzled his cheek and fell asleep, entwined with Aiedail.

Song's body was warm to his touch. He ran a finger down her back, over her shoulder blades that were clearly visible. Aiedail sniffed her hair and a sweet smell flooded his nostrils. It reminded him of roses. Song murmured in her sleep. She arched her back, her hip pressing into his side. She pressed her cheek against his. Aiedail could feel her eyelashes brush against him. He let out a silent sigh and gently pulled away, careful not to wake her. He got out of bed and tucked the sheets around her. He went to the window and opened it, and exited to the roof.

He lay on his back and stated up at the night sky. The stars were clearly visible against the black backdrop of darkness. He wondered what Clue was doing. Nitemare had been banished, but Aiedail knew he still lusted after his sister. There was a scratching at the window; N'rae wanted to come to him. He opened the window and she flew out to lie beside him. Her pale wings were pulled close to her body. She yawned and Aiedail held out her hand. N'rae climbed up his arm and wrapped herself around his neck, falling quickly asleep. Aiedail stayed up until the sun began to rise. He wondered if Song's dreams had been pure. Free of the ugly dark things that prowled at the edges of his subconscious.
