#3 of A Wolf's Last Gift

I woke up the next day with no dreams of my brot...

I woke up the next day with no dreams of my brother having haunted my sleep. I to get up and streatched, feeling very refreashed. I left my cold, dark cave to smell the winter breeze of the woods. I took a walk and to try and find a new place to stay at for a while, someplace that wasn't all dark and upsetting. My first journey since I been kicked from the pack. I wanted to see if I could get answers about my brother. Maybe he could get a few more minutes with me. As I was about to set out and leave though two wolves came up to me.

I stared at them with wide eyes at first before whispering, "Mom.... Dad?"

The two wolves nodded and spoke, "Yes it's us." My father said, "We want to let you know we still love you but what you did was wrong. You choose what you did and it can't be fixed now."

I whimpered, "I know...but it was my choice in what I did. I did it for a reason but not even you two understand. I'm sorry for what I did...but I was kiced from the pack and forced to live by my own rules. I can be alone and do what ever I want. The pack hasn't allowed me to leave, but now...I'm leaving. I'm sneaking out of this territory and going someplace new. Don't follow me I want to be alone...the only wolf who understood me was Silver..." With that I left them behind.

Why do I get this? I thought as I left them in the snow, Why am I picked to be a monster by the wolf god himself? Was I choosen to have this happen?

I kept thinking, unable to stop my thoughts. Why was I kicked but my brother wasn't? Others have done these things and not been in trouble, but no, me and him do this to show how much we love each other as brothers. I was kicked out but he wasn't.

I saw a pack of wolves overt on a hill nearby, but only one of them had noticed me. It was my brother. I was at lease ten miles from my cave now and had long since entered their territory. No doubt this would cause a huge upset, their captive running away from his holdings.

I stood there and looked at my brother, who only continued to look back. I howled to him and howled back. I smiled, turning before the rest of the pack could notice me. As I walked five more miles I could here the foot steps of a wolf following me. I stopped and turned to see nothing but knew my brother was following. Who else would follow me, the Devil Wolf? That made me stop and really remember something important. "He's protecting me still..... he still is looking after me...but then...If he's a alpha now...then I might have a chance to be back in the pack."

I keeped walking after a few minutes of silence and noticed the sun was now setting. I decided to steal the den of a fox I had found soon after. I went to a sleep peacefully hearing the howls of other wolves in my dream.

The morning after being I wake up to hear a father and his human son walking in the forest hunting. I come out and heared the shot of a gun, flinching once but curious, I decided to follow the tracks to a campfire and tent. I hid behind the tree lines so I wasn't noticed. I asked myself the obvious questions.

"Who are these people? They don't live in the forest. Who are they?" I looked up again to see fresh meat hanging by rope on a tree and my stomach gave a low long growl. I didn't want to go in but food was food. So I thought, or hoped, they could be friendly, and I walk slowly to the camp. They looked up and saw me, padding in slowly and cautiously, as the man's son grabs the gun. The man knew knew I smelled the meat and that was what had drawn me out. I was just looking for food. He threw a piece of meat over to me and I chowed down on it furiously. I wagged my tail as the boy put the gun down but close to be on gaurd. I heard the howls of other wolves as I laid there watching these humans, no doubt the howls were a warning that I was once again doing something forbidden to wolf kind, but I didn't care, I was on my own now.

I watched as the man told his son put the rest of the kill up to the tree so others don't eat it. The boy went to it as the man sat there and looked at me. "You're no regular wolf are you? No wolf has markings like yours."

I looked at him with my tail wagging as the boy came back. "All done pa."

The father looked at him. "Very good. Now lets get to bed." The dad looked at me one more time and then went back to the tent. I got up and left, turning back into the wood back to my old place. I'd gone far enough and my thoughts and hopes had gotten to me. Maybe...I should go back and see if I can join the pack...Again, just one last time...
