Rick : Luke 1

The phone was ringing again as Rick started to walk away, already grumbling as he checked the number. It was another unknown doctor's office if the caller id was anything to go by. Answering he tried to be polite, but he wasn't sure how much more of this hassle and red tape he could wade through politely. Knowing it was for Luke though, he did his best as he answered.

"Rick Ravnica speaking..." He stated slowly.

"Hello Mr. Ravnica, this is the Mount Coronet Medical Research Institute, Veilstone Branch. My name is Trisha Comely. I'm glad I caught you. Is there any chance that you can come down to the offices today?" The lady on the other end asked.

"Today... You want me to co..." Rick started, only to stop and take a few deep breathes. "I'm sorry, I'm a little irritable today. You want me to head down to to the medical research center tonight? That's an hour, maybe hour and half drive and its already going on six o'clock." Rick stated trying to keep his calm.

"I know sir and I apologize, but there's some paper work to fill out and there's a chance that you might be able to pick up your nurse kirlia tonight if you hurry." The lady continued.

"Wait, what! Tonight?!" Rick stated. "Wh-when, how fast?"

"Just maybe tonight, if you hurry. I'm sorting through approvals and only just got the notice that the first batch of registered trainees came in a few minutes ago. If I had known, I would have tried calling a few hours ago, but... well I only just got the notice now. I know that Luke is one of the youngest applicants on the list, and I know your not exactly close, which is why I'm calling you now. The office going to be closed to the public starting tomorrow though for a few days, so hurry if you can. The office clo-" The lady stated, Rick already rushing towards the garage.

"You just keep that door open as long as you can, I'm on my way." Rick half shouted as he rushed to get his coat on. He was thankful that Luke was over with his baby sitter today while Rick was some major cleaning that he didn't want Luke around because of all the dust that he would be kicking up. Rushing out the door and not exactly taking his time, even pushing the speed limit some, this was first bit of good news that Rick had ever since he found out he could apply on Luke's behalf for the program.

A bit of new roadwork slowed Rick down by another forty minutes much to his displeasure, but he was still going to try to get there on time. The sun was setting by the time that Rick drove into the medical plaza, but the only spot he could find was quite the walk. He half ran through the parking lot as the lights starting to turn on and a heavy rain started. He rushed up and into the building quickly to the receptionist.

"Ri-Rick Ravnica... I got a call from a... a Tonya... no. Mis... Trish! Trisha, Trisha Comely! She said that I had to show up quick to pick up a poke-nurse for home health care, applicant's name is Luke Ravnica..." Rick panted in rush, looking to the slightly annoyed recpetionist.

"You do know..." The receptionist started.

"That it's almost closing time, but not quite. Beat it by seven minutes, I know I know. Come on, my brother needs the help, he's just twelve, and I'm doing all I can for him. Please... can you just point me in the direction of Trisha Comely?" Rick asked, the receptionist clearly annoyed but looking it up.

"Third floor, suite 334, take a right out of the elevators, end of the hall." She stated, and Rick nodded before power walking to the elevator, only not running out of respect for the hospital right now. He knew he wanted to move faster, but he didn't want to cause too much of a scene before at least the elevator came down and thankfully he was alone as he headed back up to the third floor.

Quickly getting out and going down the hall, he was eager now as he looked for the right door and found it quickly walking into the suite. There wasn't anyone at the reception window however as he walked up, the room appearing empty. "Excuse me? I'm looking for Trisha Comely?"

There was only silence for a moment though, and Rick tried the bell on the desk, but still there wasn't an answer. He didn't like waiting as minutes passed and a bell sounded showing that it was now eight o'clock and technically, the place was now closing to the public. "Come on, come on..." Rick stated, hitting the bell a few more times, but there was no answer.

He scowled out somewhat loudly before taking a few deep breathes and then as he finally turned to leave, the door opened up. "Oh... uh... hello?" The lady stated looking at him.

"I'm looking for Trisha Comely." Rick quickly stated.

"Oh, you must be Rick Ravnica. Hello, I'm Trisha. Sorry, last call at the cafe for specialty drinks is at quarter till eight. Black coffee and hot tea just does not compare to a double shot espresso with caramel and I'll be stuck here all night." The lady stated holding up two cups of coffee just to make a point.

"Sorry I'm late, unscheduled road work. I can still pick up that kirlia right?" Rick asked very hopeful.

"Technically, I'm not supposed to, but you did arrive before eight... Eh, I'll call it a slow computer if anyone asks. Come on now, into the back." Trisha stated leading him into the back before leading him to a private room.

"Okay, so we're going to be here for a bit, but let's see if we can do this uninterrupted." Trisha stated reaching into a cabinet and looking through a large assortment of containers, before pulling out one with Luke's name and face on it. "You did bring his medical paperwork right?"

"Never leave anywhere without it anymore." Rick stated, reaching into his coat and pulling out a booklet with all the information.

"Okay then. I'll just walk you through this then while I double check all of this." Trisha said, taking the booklet and confirming everything she needed to.

"First off, your new nurse pokemon here doesn't have a name. You'll need to register to a specific pokemon center and you can name her there. Also, she doesn't belong to Luke, she belongs to you since your the guardian in the house. You're responsible for caring for both of them and taking care of any needs she might have. For the first two years, we're allowed to do surprise check-ins on both Luke and your new kirlia and if you don't meet the conditions of the medical contract, she can be taken away. Honestly, that's not good for anyone, so please take care of her." Trisha started.

"Yeah, they gave me like thirty pages of documents to look over. I think I got it down by now though... I hope." Rick stated.

"That's good to hear. Now for the most part, she's been trained to live in house full time, only staying in a pokeball for rest or in transportation. As a kirlia, she needs mostly softer foods, but there's no real reason she can't eat at every meal you prepare, if she'll eat it. You'll be given some credit for vitamans and some poke-poffins and the like for her to help out for a while until you figure out what she will and won't eat, but don't spoil her. When she evolves into a gardevoir, she'll pretty much have the same dietary requirements as a human, aside from a things for her to avoid, but that's listed in the booklet. Like people, she might or might not react badly to any of the given food items, so there is some learning involved. Besides this, she already knows personal hygiene routines and should be able to take care of herself, including bathing and bathroom needs, and she's prepared to help do some other basic tasks in addition to her nursing tasks." Trisha continued, Rick nodding.

"Well, that should make things easy." Rick said.

"Yes it should. Now, I shouldn't need to say this, but she's just a nurse, at best. She can help him if he gets in trouble and will help take care of it depending on the routines you teach her, but she is no replacement for a doctor. She's just here to help you and Luke out with basic living. Show her how to help Luke if he gets into trouble and she'll help how she can. She knows some basic gestures to help get her meaning across and its going to take her a while to get use to working with Luke, so give her some time to learn the routine." Trisha continued, before opening the container and pulling out a large stack of paperwork, some vests and arm bands, and a other things.

"Okay, these are her things and should be with her at all times when you're not at home. The vest and arm band are made for her right now, as a kirlia. It will take a while for her evolve, but she is close to evolving. They guess it might be five or six months or even a year or two for her evolve. When she does, just take her a pokemon center with this paper work and they'll let you what to do the then. Until then though, she'll need examined at the pokemon center once a month at least. And no, she is not a battle pokemon. Attempting to teach her to be a battle pokemon can be a breach of contract with this. If she is registered in any kind of event, its an automatic failure. That said, the terms can get lax after the first five years, but until then, don't risk it." Trisha continued, before at last pulling out a pure white pokeball, and then opening it up.

A kirlia was released into the room, and she looked around some, before looking at Trisha's medical ID badge, and then looking to her for directions.

"Hello there. This is Rick, and he'll be taking you to your new job." Trisha stated, Rick just watching as Trisha held up an image of Luke. "You'll be helping Luke, Rick's younger brother."

"She understands things that easy?" Rick asked.

"Kind of. Its more like she understands emotions and intent more. Its why kirlias were chosen in the first place for this. They have some understanding of people and can bond and work beside people easily. And as a gardevoir, they can fit in even more. Its a doubled edged sword though, because as a gardevoir, they'll very likely to bond with the person they are helping care for. On the one hand, it makes things easy and natural for them to want to do good for that person, but on the other side, if they get taken away, its very bad for the gardevoir. So please, don't give them reason to. Remember that five years I mentioned when things become more laxed... they are very unlikely to take her back after that, but they can still charge you for everything before then though." Trisha explained, handing Rick the container, and more importantly, handing Rick her pokeball.

"She'll... easily be able to understand any command I give her, showing her how to help out right?" Rick asked.

"It might take a bit, but she'll learn in time. Words do help, but its more mental intent and emotional things that she learns from. As long as you're wearing this..." Trisha pulled out a small wrist band and handed that to Rick. It was fairly basic, aside from a large green medical cross with a massive red frame around it.

"She will know that your in charge and will try to take your orders over Luke's. And this is one is for Luke to wear for a while." Trisha pulled out a second one, but with the reverse pattern.

"That will show that her which person she was trained to help." Trisha stated, the kirlia quickly taking note of the wristbands, even coming up and taking Rick's hand to inspect it, before looking up to him.

"Good girl. That's right, he's in charge and he'll be showing you who to help." Trisha said, happy with how easy this was.

"That... really is easy." Rick stated, letting the kirlia take his hand, and giving a small nod.

"Now, like I said, there is a fair amount of training that she's done already, but you need to set up the actual routines with her. If you can find ways to make things habitual for her, that's all the better, help setting a daily routine for a while can be very good. Also, she knows some basic routines already, and was taught some basics. She knows that food is good, and might get a little touchy about letting Luke have too much candy, and she'll encourage him to take baths to stay clean and other things. Its up to you figure out the limits on these things." Trisha explained.

"Seems like they did a lot of things with her already." Rick stated, looking over some of the paperwork now.

"Yes they did. It wasn't easy, and took a few years of training for them, but I hope everything works out. This is the first legitimate attempt at this. If it works, and I hope it does, it could redefine some measures of home health care for those with handicaps or long term conditions. I mean, the gardevoir family line won't be a good choice for cases where it won't be a near permanent arrangement, but in a case like Luke who has genetic issues that we can't solve so easily... I'm hoping that this goes well." Trisha said, reviewing a few things.

"So do I.... Just believe me, so do I." Risk stated slowly

"Now, it looks here like you already took the basic courses for interacting with your new poke-nurse, are there any questions?" Trisha asked.

"Not really. Well, not at the moment. I'm sure I'll have a ton in the coming month, but that depends on her honestly, seeing how she interacts with Luke and the like." Rick stated, before holding up the booklet. "I hope there's a lot of answers in here just in case. Well, no actually, I do have one weird question. Are there any gaming stores around here open late. My brother is with his sitter right now and technically I was supposed to pick them up an hour ago, but I'm going to be about three hours late now and he'll be sleeping over at her place. I'd like to get a game as an apology for her."

"And that is something I can't help with. Good luck to you." Trisha stated, standing up and putting all the things back in the container before hand it to Rick, minus the kirlia's nurse vest.

"Well, it was worth a shot." Rick said.

"Good luck... and count on a surprise check in within the first month, probably two or three weeks from now." Trisha stated, shaking Rick's hand, and then opening the door for them.

~xXx~

Rick's truck drove up in the morning and Tonya was at the door to greet him as he got out and even more, helped a kirlia out of the truck. "Ya know Rick... I really don't like surpris... I really don't like surprises of any kind Rick. You ditch me again for pretending to be a trainer and I'm doubling my rates for you." The older teenager stated. At seventeen or maybe eighteen, it was that she was still in school, and her mother was in the house doing some cleaning.

"I know I know, but I h-" Rick started, only for Luke to rush out hearing the mention of Rick maybe being a pokemon trainer now. "No Luke, I'm not a pokemon trainer, and neither are you." Rick quickly stated at a very shocked Luke.

The kirlia was already wearing her medical vest, with a small ID badge clipped to it as she walked beside Rick, seeing Luke and then looking up to Rick. "And this is Luke, the boy you'll be a nurse for." Rick stated as he walked up, handing off a bag to Tonya though.

"And for you Tonya, the new Zelda game that was released yesterday. I remember how much you said that you couldn't afford it right away, and no, this is not coming out of my pay to you, this is a separate apology for watching Luke for the night. The Mount Coronet Medical Research Institute called and said that if I hurried, I could pick this Kirlia to act as Luke's nurse, or I would have to wait a week to do it since they'll be closed to the public for a few days." Rick explained, Tonya quickly rushing up and taking the game.

"Oh... oh sweet." Tonya smiled, quickly checking that it was infact the game she wanted, before looking back at Rick. "And I still get paid for this... so I guess this counts as good apology." Tonya stated looking back to Luke was just in awe. "You uh... you good there Luke?"

"Kirlia! The Emotion pokemon, evolved from Raltz, evolves into G-" Luke started before giving a few coughs, but he didn't stop. "Gardevoir, or if male and with a sun stone, Gallade. Psychic Fairy Type, with a focus on special t-type attacks over physical ones, both evolutions of Kirlia are considered by many to be a powerful guardian and forms a great bond with trainers who raise them!" Luke started blurting out now, before having a few rough coughs, the kirlia quickly moving up to check on him.

"Averaging two foot two inches tall and weighing forty-five pounds on average, kirlia are part of the human-like and amorphous egg groups. The h-horns on its head are used to attune itself to all sorts of things, and ultimately amplify its power to the point that's its said to sometimes be able to see the future even!" Luke continued as soon as he had his breath back, before rushing up and circling the kirlia.

"Is he... always like that?" Tonya asked, a bit concerned over Luke's major nerd out.

"Only when it applies to a pokemon he might be interacting with regularly. And since kirlia here will be working with Luke on a daily basis now, that means you'll see a lot more of her too. I'm told she's already fully trained for hygiene needs and the like, she even used the bathroom on her own... and cleaned it up without me looking." Rick explained.

"So... anywhere he goes, she goes huh..." Tonya stated, not sure how she felt about that, maybe ending up a baby sitting a pokemon now.

"I'm hoping this won't raise my rates, but she's here to help keep an eye on Luke as his nurse in the end. There will be a bit of time training her in a new routine, but hopefully any time I need to ask you to watch Luke, you'll have help now." Rick stated.

"Still not sure how I feel about that, but I guess I'll see how that plays out next month when you're start taking over for the other guy at the Crypt..." Tonya stated.

"And if all goes really well, I'll just be asking you to watch Luke for over night things once she evolves into a gardevoir, but that could be a few months or year out." Rick explained.

"If it doesn't interfere with college, I'll keep watching him, but I guess we'll just see then won't we." Tonya stated.

"I'd hate to lose you honestly. Best baby sitter I know by a margin. I hope the game at least means you'll consider it." Rick stated as he looked back to Luke who was now carefully looking over the kirlia, the kirlia unsure how to handle this.

"Take it easy with her Luke... She'll be living with us now." Rick stated, Luke quickly turning towards Rick now.

"You mean I have a pokemon now!" Luke yelled out in joy.

"I... I have a pokemon. But you will get to name her, and if there's no problems in a year or two, you might be allowed to take ownership of her. Until then, I'm responsible for you both even if she's your nurse. She's here to help out with... with a lot of things." Rick stated.

"Now come on. We need to get to register at the pokemon center." Rick started.

"I can name her! Oh oh, I know. Annabelle Kinetics! We're naming her Annabelle Kinetics, the first real psychic type pokemon trainer who was a psyshic herself! I can't wait to try the gym!" Luke yelled out.

"No Luke. We are not pokemon trainers, I'm sorry. If... Annabelle there is registered for any kind of event, they'll take her away. She's a medical pokemon, not a contest or battle pokemon." Rick explained, Luke whining.

"C-come on! Please!" Luke begged some, but Rick shook his head.

"Those are some of the rules for having her. Annabelle is here to help you and be your nurse. She's not for battling or contents, and if they figure out you're trying to use her as one, they will take her away Luke." Rick stated firmly.

Luke just whined a bit more before going into another small coughing fit, this one worse then the others. Tonya and Rick both quickly moved up, but the kirlia was already, pulling Luke down to sit on the sidewalk. It was clear that she had traing for this, and was very careful with him. She quickly felt the side of this throat very carefully, and made Luke look at her for a moment as she opened her mouth to try and show slow breathes in and out, wanting him to match her if he could.

Luke though was just ecstatic about it, quickly following the hints and orders that Annabelle was giving. It took a few for him to fully recover and his breathing was back to normal, Rick just impressed.

"Okay... this worked out great. I was worried I had to teach her what to do here, but it looks like she can teach me a few things." Rick stated.

"Cool!" Luke finally just yelled out now that he was feeling better, Tonya just shaking her head some.

"Well... if she's that helpful all the time, I can't complain about watching her too... any dietary needs I need to be aware of?" Tonya asked.

"Hard grains seem to be an issue, and she'll prefer softer foods. Otherwise, she's good on a basic human style diet. She'll be able to manage even more foods as a gardevoir." Rick explained. "I'll let you know if there's anything else you need to know about feeding her when she's here with Luke."

"I'll look forward to it." Tonya said as she looked to Luke. "See ya next month then Luke."

"Okay Tonya!" Luke stated as Tonya went inside and got Luke's bag, handing that off to Rick.

"In the truck you two. Need to the stop by the Pokemon Center, then we can go do some shopping." Rick stated, Luke quickly taking Annabelle's hand and pulling her back to the truck while Rick just watched.

As Rick got in the truck, there was the scene of Luke and Annabelle trying to get buckled up. Both of them were trying to buckle in the other, before Annabelle sat Luke down and buckled him in before buckling herself in. Annabelle then gave a thumbs up and Rick buckled himself in before taking off.

A thankfully quick ride to the Pokemon Center with Annabelle keeping Luke sitting back properly and safely. Once at the center though, Luke tried to drag Annabelle inside to finish trying to register her. "Hey, hold up!" Rick called out despite Luke's rush, before catching up. Thankfully a slow day, there were only a few trainers.

Once they were finished and walked off, Luke rushed up.

"Hi Nurse Brea!" Luke smiled eagerly and the nurse smiled looking back at him.

"Now what is this Luke... you find another pokemon that needs some help again? You really should be more careful you know." Brea asked as Rick walked up.

"Actually, this one is mine. And we need to finish registering her as Luke's support poke-nurse. We'll need to speak with a Nurse Joy about it." Rick stated as he walked up.

"Yep yep! I have a pokemon now!" Luke happily stated as Rick handed the folder to Brea.

"Well lucky me I guess. Finally got promoted to Nurse Joy for the center and now I get paperwork." Brea sighed some, but still put on a smile. "Chansey. I've got some paperwork to do, please handle the desk."

"Sorry, didn't mean bring some bad news with me." Rick stated as Brea walked around the desk and walked with Rick, Luke, and Annabelle into the back.

"For Luke, I can forgive you. So what did you call this program... a support poke-nurse?" Brea asked as she looked down to Luke and Annabelle.

"Yeah! I have a pokemon now! I have my own kirlia." Luke exclaimed, still looking over Annabelle and showing her off.

"Its a newer thing. The paper work spells it out easily. And no Luke, I have a pokemon. You have a nurse now. Yes, you can play with her, and she'll be with you a lot, but she's your nurse first." Rick reminded Luke again, knowing that this was likely to be something that needed repeated frequently.

"Can't say I ever heard of this, but that paper work looks legit. I just have to register here as the primary pokemon center right, and finish this form before faxing it in. Seems simple enough. Do you have a name for her yet?" Brea asked as she walked them into an office.

"Annabelle! Annabelle Kenetics, just like the first real psychic type trainer who was a psychic herself! One of the greatest trainers in the world back in her day, I'll raise Annabelle to be the best she can be." Luke excitedly half yelled out, before going into a large coughing fit again. Once more Annabelle went to work, and helped sit him down, making sure to try and take care of Luke, Annabelle sparing some glances at Brea and her nurse outfit to make sure she was doing good.

"Indoor voice Luke... and no, she's not a battle or contest pokemon. She's your support poke-nurse Luke." Rick stated firmly once Luke was breathing well enough, ready to step in but also needing to see just how well Annabelle would do what she was trained to do.

"Well, she certainly likes she'll be a good fit already, trying to help out so much." Brea smiled, finishing up the paperwork rather quickly. "So, a few more things before I can finish this. First off, I need to remind you to make regular check ins for Annabelle's health, looks like they suggest every two weeks for a while, and then once a month after that. And once again, I'm sorry Luke, but Rick is right. I'll be getting you a special pokedex, but its going to be registered to Rick and it looks like her pokeball already has anti-event software installed." Brea stated, Luke giving a loud whine.

"C-come on! I finally get a pokemon and I can't do anything with her!" Luke whined, giving another small cough.

"She's not for battling or for contests Luke. She's a working pokemon. Annabelle is here to help out around the house and help you. You can play with her, you'll be helping to care for her, and you can teach her a few things, but she's not for battling or contents." Rick repeated again, already shaking his head a bit wondering how long he would be repeating that.

"Just wait here for a moment please." Brea got up, taking the paperwork with her for a moment, and then left the room. She came back a few minutes later with the paperwork again and a phone like device, plugging that into the computer. "Just let me plug this in and I'll have your pokedex ready."

"That's a pokedex? Looks more like a small flip phone." Rick stated.

"Its a Czar Tech, Working Class RT4 Model used for identification and monitoring the health of working pokemon, mostly used by people in construction or delivery work." Luke quickly stated.

"Very close Luke, but this is the the RT41 model. The outside looks the same, its just some minor internal parts for new security features that are different. They were supposed to be an upgrade, but a few of the newer security features made it annoying to trade a pokemon from the RT40s to the RT41s, so big companies just kept buying the RT40s rather than deal with the hassle of going through that for each individual pokemon." Brea smiled, taking Annabelle's pokeball and setting it a slot on the back.

The device quickly started up and Brea went through some basic set up, before handing to Rick. "Okay, its a very simple model to use. Just hand it to any registered nurse at a pokemon center along with Annabelle and her pokeball and they can handle it from there, and for daily use, just flip it open and show it to anyone who needs to see it. And charging it is just a simple matter of pressing in this button here and pushing it over to extend the plug so you can just plug it right into the wall." Brea explained.

"Of course, I would still keep the paperwork on hand in any hospital or government building just in case for a while. It will probably be a few years before its common enough knowledge that people will just want to see the pokedex." Brea added, before handing it over to Rick.

"I'll keep that in mind." Rick stated as Brea handed some of the paperwork back to him, before taking two sheets and quickly faxing them out.

It didn't take long and then Brea handed them back. "And that's everything. Am I still going to see you voulenteering around here Luke now that there's a pokemon living in your house?"

"Of course! I get to see lots of cool pokemon around here." Luke smiled, getting up fully now, Annabelle staying at his side for the most part.

"He'll be here next weekend if all goes well, don't worry about that." Rick smiled. "Thanks again though Brea."

"Glad to be of help." Brea smiled getting up and leading them back to the front, Rick leading Annabelle and Luke back to his truck again where Luke tried again to buckle in Annabelle, but Annabelle quickly sat him down this time.

Luke was just greatly amused by it for now though and let Annabelle do her part and when Annabelle gave a thumbs up, Luke did too. "If only it was always this easy." Rick smiled.

A trip the store proved just as amusing though, and there many looks but Rick knew that was just something that he would have to get use for a while. Despite that, the shopping turned out easy enough though, and while it wasn't really planned, Rick did get another full size bed for Annabelle so that she could grow into it after looking up the size of gardevoirs, as well as got her own set of blankets and pillows wanting Annabelle to be rested enough to always be able to do her job. They also got a few other things for her to help her out some, and then on the way back home, the real fun began.

Almost at once, Luke tried to take Annabelle out back to deal with annoying pokemon who kept trying to harass Luke at times, always stealing his snacks while he was outside and alone. "Hey hey! Not a battle pokemon!" Rick quickly yelled out as Luke tried to immediately take Annabelle around back, and even pulled out some pokeballs from a spare flower pot. "What in th... LUKE! Where did you get those. Answer me!" Rick shouted rushing after them in a hurry now.

A full sweep of the house the next day, with a borrowed metal detector no less and Rick had found that Luke has stashed no less then 42 pokeballs of various types, a few stashes of pieces of starting gear like potions, status healing items, a survival mutli-tool, and few other odds and ends. A more detailed search of Luke's room with Annabelle revealed even more things, including an envelope filled with some Luke's allowance labeled pokedex fund, a large folder with all sorts of papers filled with ideas labeled Poketch Company Submissions, and even a partially repaired pokenav.

Luke was extremely unhappy with all of the gear he had getting taken away, and even a little mad at Annabelle for helping Rick take it all away, but he didn't seem to stay mad at Annabelle for too long.

~xXx~

The following three weeks proved full of complications of a sort. While the school understandably did not allow Annabelle in the building and Rick didn't argue that, Luke still tried. The school was accepting of Rick showing up with Annabelle to pick up and drop off Luke though and Rick had to make it clear that Luke wasn't allowed to show off Annabelle as much as he wanted.

Luke's days spent volunteering at the pokemon center were even more enjoyable though with Luke trying to show Annabelle all sorts of things, and the staff were all amused with how overly eager Luke seemed to do more now. Luke was very happy to have a pokemon in the house though, and Rick was impressed with how clean and careful she was, but also at times seemed happy to play with Luke.

As Rick set down some bowls for dinner at the table again, Luke was already getting up into his chair and Annabelle was still using a child's lawn chair at the moment. The three of them were sitting on side of a long table set up against the window to look outside, and as Rick brought the pan over to pour them all some soup, Luke was eager to show off.

While Rick did put a complete stop to Luke trying to be a trainer, he did at least let Annabelle help keep the wild pokemon who tried to pick on Luke away. Without the wild pokemon that kept coming in to mess up the garden, or try and take Luke's snacks when Rick wasn't there with him, the backyard quickly became a much nicer place.

"Look Rick look! Annabelle is mastering psybeam!" Luke called out as sat at the table now. "Go on Anna! Psybeam!"

"Hey hey! No moves at the table." Rick tried to announce again, only for Annabelle to try it anyway. Raising up her arms in front of her as she stood on her child's lawn chair, she concentrated hard and then a few large rings appeared in her hands before flying forward. Aimed out the open window, the rings in an ever changing glowing beam of light flew out and then hit the training dummy that Rick let Annabelle practice on to help keep pokemon out of the back yard.

"What did I just say about moves at the table!" Rick stated firmly, glaring at Luke.

"But it's not dinner yet... we're still getting ready." Luke tried to argue as Annabelle stopped.

"I'm pouring soup as we speak, the bread is already cut at the dinner table, I announced three minutes that it was dinner time." Rick countered, only for a bright flash of light to appear almost blinding him and Luke. Annabelle had been sitting down in her chair, knowing that she did something wrong now and waiting for Rick to finish setting up dinner. But as the light died down, there was a loud snap, a thud, and then a much larger much more angry shattering almost crunch like sound.

Annabelle's little child's lawn chair that she liked to sit in was missing both of the back legs, and then even more snapped entirely in half into left and right sides, resting on either side of a gardevoir who was biting her lip a little bit and rubbing her bottom as she gave a silent whine.

Rick was, for a few moments, at a loss for words before letting out a long sigh. "Annabelle, sit in my chair for now and get Luke eating. I'll get another chair after making a call. And Luke, no moves 5 minutes before and during meals, am I clear?" He said with a sharp firmness that almost cut down Luke's excitement, but did control it for a few moments while Rick went to the phone to make a call.

It took a few to get through, before at last Rick got connected to Trisha Comely again. "Hello, Trisha Comely speaking."

"Hey Trisha. This is Rick Ravnica speaking, Luke Ravnica's brother. Do you remember me?" Rick asked.

"Rick ... Rick... Oh, Luke's guardian. Yes, I think I remember now. You were one of the first I called up about picking up a poke-nurse. Is there a problem?" Trisha asked.

"Sort of, but no in the bad way. I hope at least. Look, I got orders to do regular check ins with Luke's poke-nurse, and keep you up to date with her." Rick started.

"Yes, uh... Annabelle Kenetics it looks like you named her. Little out there on names, but okay. What's wrong?" Trisha asked.

"I let my brother name her, and well he picked that name based on a famous trainer. Anyway, you told me to call if anything changed, and she just evolved." Rick stated.

"I'm sorry... she's evolved into a gardevoir already?" Trisha asked, very confused.

"She's about five foot now, long gown, what looks like a green helmet and those red things on her head are now through her chest on both sides." Rick said, looking over Annabelle in his seat right now, Luke going nuts, despite Annabelle trying to get him to eat.

"I'm sorry... She evolved? Its only been... twenty-nine days since you picked her up. She's not supposed to evolve for at least three months, up to two years. Unless you're using her for events..." Trisha stated.

"Not a one. She's taken extremely well to Luke, she's very protective of him. We got a lot of bug pokemon and birds who try have tried to harass Luke out here though. I mean they have never hurt him, but they've taken his snacks and such when I'm not outside with him, even when I'm just going in to get a drink and they really like our garden. Annabelle's been getting real good at chasing them off and keeping Luke safe though." Rick explained.

"I need to send someone out to double check all of this. Expect them in the morning..." Trisha stated,

"This isn't going to be a problem is it?" Rick asked a bit worried.

"Honestly, I don't know. I mean this is a fast evolution. They'll have to figure it out after they inspect her and her pokedex..." Trisha stated.

"So... Tomorrow morning?" Rick asked still a bit worried, looking over Luke and Annabelle. He was hoping that this wouldn't cause any problems but he couldn't be sure.

"First thing as they can." Trisha replied.

"I'll... see whoever it is then." Rick stated.

"I'll... see what I can figure out on my end before then but honestly I have no idea how this might play out. I'll do what I can help out if you're being honest and she wasn't use in any pokemon battles or contests but, well this is an odd situation. I... well try to have a good night." Trisha stated.

"Thanks for doing what you can." Rick stated, and hung up still looking at Luke and Annabelle, Annabelle still doing what she was taught and trying to get Luke to eat right now.

Pulling up an extra chair for now, he just sat back down in silence at the table, letting Luke go nuts over the evolution for now though. As night came around and Annabelle put Luke in bed, Rick just pulled her back out of the room for a moment.

"Hey... just. Thanks for all you're doing. And please, be on your best behavior tomorrow." Rick said, before letting her go.

~xXx~

A tense morning was filled with the dread of what could happen and sure enough around nine, an inspector showed up. There was a lot of talk, some tests, a review of the pokedex for Annabelle, and even an inspection of the backyard. The hardest part was when Luke tried to hit the inspector for even trying to mention taking Annabelle, but Annabelle held Luke back fully, and even took him outside to scold him.

Thankfully, the usual culprits who tried to make a scene were not expecting a newly evolved gardevoir to show up as Luke was forced outside. Annabelle wasn't having any of it though when a couple of burmy tried to come down from the trees and take Luke's drink again.

Luke was busy trying to defend his actions for Annabelle, but Annabelle stuck to her training, and only just barely noticed the burmy coming down to get Luke's cup and the bowl of fruit was there. Instantly reacting, Annabelle rushed up to deal with, a very direct psybeam cutting their webs easily before she somewhat aggressively grabbed and shoved them all in a box despite their attempts to attack her. Even with a type advantage, Annabelle in her newly evolved state was easily able to over power them and then get rid of them.

The inspector just watched and partially understood why she got a little training now, and just watched as Annabelle quickly went to scolding Luke. "Well... she does her job even better then we trained her..." The inspector stated.

"I refused to let him use her for battle or contests or anything like that, but she's been a big help in the yard. Even just coming inside to get some more drinks or just answer the phone, its like they know Luke can't do anything to them." Rick explained.

"I see that..." The inspector continued.

"There's... not going to be a problem with this is there? I can't afford to pay for the training she had and I hear that once a gardevoir evolves, its bad to seperate them fro whoever they bonded to." Rick stated, the inspector getting his things and starting to walk outside.

"Honestly? If it weren't for his lungs, the kid would've been a star trainer if he got her to evolve this fast. You can't force them to evolve through just training, it's combination of training, experience and bond between Pokémon and trainer... it's a shame, really." The inspector stated. "I'll do what I can to make sure this goes over smoothly. Hopefully, the take my opinions into consideration, but I'm not going to take her away from you today."

Rick just nodded slowly, very thankful for what the inspector was telling him. "Thanks for that."

As the man left, Luke came rushing back in though, seeing the car leave the drive way.

"Don't let him go Rick! He's a bad man, he's part of Team Galactic. He wants to steal pokemon, our pokemon!" Luke yelled out.

"No Luke. He's not with Galactic." Rick stated as Annabelle chased after Luke, and even took the phone from him, hanging it back up.

"He is! He has to be! He's here to take Annabelle!" Luke yelled out more.

"Luke... he's not here to take Annabelle, and he's not part of Galactic." Rick repeated. "Annabelle is a service pokemon. She has a special job, like the police arcanines, or a chansey in pokemon center." Rick explained.

"She has certain tasks to do, and we have follow certain rules with her. I explained this to you already Luke. If we don't follow those rules, then we have to pay for everything related to her and I don't have the kind of money for all the training she went through to help you Luke." Rick stated.

"But they can't take her! Annabelle is ours!" Luke still cried out, Annabelle just grabbing Luke for the moment and moving over to a seat, sitting him down and just sitting beside him, leaning him into her. Luke eagerly held her now, but she just made him look at her and lightly shook her finger.

"Luke... Annabelle is staying with us for now, but you can't hit anyone. He's not a bad man, he's just doing his job and his job is to make sure that the rules are followed Luke. But you have keep following the rules okay. He'll be back a few times, he's allowed to do inspections like this again, but that doesn't make him a bad man Luke." Rick explained with a small sigh. "If we follow the rules, they won't take Annabelle, okay? That means no contests, no battles. Do you understand?"
