#58 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo arrives at Floaroma Town and does some catching with honey before exploring Eterna Forest

After finishing up at the Pokemon Centre and ensuring my Pokemon were fully healed I headed out from Oreburgh City, heading West back through Oreburgh Gate and continuing back through Route Route 203 where I eventually reached Jubilife City once more. I did have a few wild Pokemon challenge me to battles but my newly evolved Pokemon easily put the wild Pokemon in their place. I headed North once more and returned to Route 204 and continued North entering the Ravaged Path once again. The rocks hadn't been destroyed by any other travellers, nor any wild Pokemon meaning it came to me to have the rocks removed permanently. "Bibarel come on out!" Bibarel appeared expecting to be battling a opponent and as such was surprised to see his opponent might as well have been a rock. "Bibarel can you use Rock Smash to remove that rock." Bibarel nodded and used his tail to smash the rock into pieces. I thanked Bibarel returning him to his Pokeball and continued on. Turns out Ravaged Path was a very small cave and I exited on the same Route, 204 but I was above where I had been previous. This was considered the northern part of Route 204 but still there were no new Pokemon available to catch here.

My first opponent was a Aroma Lady who sent out a Budew and I sent out my Staravia having him use Wing Attack defeating the Budew, The second Pokemon sent out was a Cherubi a Grass Type I hadn't yet managed to find, still Staravia used a second Wing Attack defeating Cherubi as well. Next was a Bug Catcher who sent out a Wurmple and I sent out my Monferno having him use Ember defeating the Wurmple. The second Pokemon sent out was a Kricketot and I substituted for its evolved form a Kricketune having him use Fury Cutter defeating Kricketot. Finally I was challenged by twins who both sent out Pachirisu a Electric Type and I sent out my Luxio and Roselia. Luxio used Bite defeating one Pachirisu while Roselia used Magical Leaf defeating the other. I continued heading North and arrived at Floaroma Town a town with flowers everywhere making the town look beautiful and smell delightful. I spotted some berries that travellers could pluck and I chose to take some and replant them for future users and Pokemon too.

Before moving on I headed North and arrived at the Floaroma Meadow where flowers were in bloom as far as the eye could see. It was incredibly beautiful and I followed a set path to ensure I didn't damage any off the plants that were in bloom. Eventually I came across a tree that just looked different, the tree just gave off a strong aroma and that was when a man approached me. "I see you must be interested in the aroma that tree gives off correct. Well, just knowing that isn't going to help you much. Without honey to slather on that tree you won't find any Pokemon to catch." At that the guy slathered some honey on the tree. "Now that honey is on the tree it won't take long for some Pokemon to appear. Some can be rarer than others so it would be wise of you to be patient and come back later to see what you can catch." At that the man darted off into a nearby home and I decided to heed his advice and return back to Floaroma Town.

I headed East and arrived at Route 205 but instead of heading north I instead headed further East and arrived at the Valley Windworks where there was a variety of Pokemon that I hadn't yet caught. I dashed into the grass searching high and low for some Pokemon and was happy when I came across my first new encounter a wild Pachirisu. Pachirisu were quite the cute and energetic Pokemon as they scurried around the grass watching for danger carefully. "Luxio your up!" Luxio appeared staring at the fellow Electric Type. "Use Bite!" Luxio pounced and landed a Bite against Pachirisu who tried to retaliate using Quick Attack but Luxio managed to endure the attack continually using Bite weakening Pachirisu further and further. Eventually Bite seemed to weaken Pachirisu to the point where Luxio released Pachrisiu allowing me to throw a Pokeball at the weakened Pachirisu. I watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Pachirisu has been registered to your Pokedex. Pachirisu the EleSquirrel Pokemon a Electric Type. It makes electricity with pouches in its cheeks and shoots charges from its tail. It lives atop trees." I healed up Pachirisu and thanked Luxio for the battle.

Pachirisu was a mischievous prankster like Pokemon, who enjoyed running circles around me whenever he wanted to cause some mayhem. I didn't mind as that was part of his unique personality and reminded me that he would have great fun with the other prankster like Pokemon back home. However, when battling Pachirisu showed that he would be focused and determined to bring me victory no matter what. I continued searching the grass and eventually came across a cute Shellos slowly ambling across the grass. "Pachirisu lets see how good of a bond we have already." Pachirisu was more than happy to showcase his strength to his trainer and began battling Shellos for me.

"Pachirisu Quick Attack!" before Shellos could even understand what was happening, it was struck by a multitude of rapid blurs from Pachirisu. Shellos showed surprising resilience and managed to take the repeated attacks before retaliating with Mud Bomb. "Dodge that Pachirisu!" Thankfully Pachirisu was quite fast in comparison to Shellos, so he easily managed to dodge the Mud Bombs before they could strike. "Now use Swift!" Pachirisu unleashed stars from his tail which struck Shellos once again further weakening the Water Type. I saw my opportunity and threw a Pokeball at the weakened Shellos and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Shellos has been registered to your Pokedex. Shellos the Sea Slug Pokemon a Water Type. Its colour and shapes differ from region to region. In the Sinnoh region two types are confirmed."

The Shellos that lived at the Valley Windworks were all pink in colouration, meanwhile on the other side of the Sinnoh Region they were blue. I wasn't aware as to why Shellos had different colourations depending on where they were born. Perhaps Professor Oak or Rowan were researching the reason for this Pokemon's differences. The Shellos I had captured seemed quite resilient and strong, putting up an exceptional fight against my Pachirisu even when at a disadvantage against an Electric Type. Though as of this moment Pachirisu didn't know any Electric attacks but I digress.

I thanked Pachirisu and healed him up before also healing up Shellos congratulating him on battling really well against a Pokemon that had an advantage against him. Shellos blushed lightly in embarrassment at the compliment but thankfully the human that was now his trainer couldn't tell simply because of his colouration. That meant there was only one more Pokemon remaining here that I hadn't yet caught and that was Buizel. As if Buizel knew I was searching for him a Buizel appeared lunging from the water, smirking with confidence as he stared up at me. When I spotted the Buizel, he smirked again and cockily challenged me to battle and catch him. This Buizel appeared to be quite confident and powerful based on his personality.

I deliberated on what Pokemon to choose against Buizel but I didn't need to do much when my Shellos decided to have a battle against the Buizel. Buizel seemed interested in battling a fellow Water Pokemon and accepted the challenge with gusto. Buizel didn't waste any time and immediately fired Water Gun directly at Shellos who remained confident himself. Before I could even give a command, Shellos stopped me by deliberately taking the Water Gun and ended up taking no damage at all. I stared shocked, wondering what ability Shellos must have had in order to be immune to Water Gun. Thankfully Rotom informed me that my Shellos had the ability Storm Drain giving Shellos a complete immunity to Water Attacks.

Buizel seemed unperturbed by the new development and instead unleashed a lightning barrage of Swift. "Use Harden and block those attacks Shellos." Shellos used Harden and managed to deflect the Swift causing them to bounce harmlessly against Shellos' surprisingly strong defence. I shouldn't have been surprised as he had managed to take Pachirisu's repeated attacks with relative ease. "It's our turn to attack Shellos use Mud Bomb!" Shellos grinned before unleashing Mud Bomb against Buizel who smirked easily dodging the attacks thanks to his speed. Shellos wasn't one to simply throw in the towel and concede defeat. Instead Shellos continued using Mud Bomb waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Buizel eventually let his guard down and was hit with a repeated barrage of Mud Bomb's eventually weakening Buizel to the point where I felt he could be captured.

I threw a Pokeball at the weakened Buizel and watched as the ball shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Buizel has been registered to your Pokedex. Buizel the Sea Weasel Pokemon a Water Type. It spins its two tails like a screw to propel itself through water. The tails also slice clinging seaweed." I thanked Shellos glad that we seem to have made a strong bond already. I healed up Buizel too and congratulated him on giving us a tough battle. Buizel smirked folding his arms to his chest as he enjoyed receiving the praise and wondered whether this specific trainer could help him grow much stronger so he could surpass Shellos.

I checked the route again but found that all the Pokemon had been captured, however, there was a Pokemon that appeared regularly at the Wind Works and that was Drifloon. It was believed that Drifloon was attracted to the Wind Works because of the wind generated energy and the fact that Drifloon was a Flying Type seemed to corroborate the theory. While waiting for the potential encounter with Drifloon I began thoroughly training my Pachirisu, Shellos and Buizel and they began making rapid improvements in their strength to the point where they could now handle themselves against the wild Pokemon living here.

In the middle of the training session with Buizel he suddenly stopped in his tracks and pointed up into the sky as he spotted a unknown Pokemon that I might not have yet caught. I followed his arm and spotted the Pokemon I had been waiting for it was a Drifloon and it was lowering itself to the ground slowly but surely. "Buizel Water Gun!" Buizel fired Water Gun to get the Drifloon's attention and it seemed to work as Drifloon headed on over to deal with the attacking trainer. Drifloon started by using Gust which was surprisingly strong and managed to force Buizel back some distance before he managed to endure the attack.

"Buizel use Pursuit!" Buizel managed to jump up and punch Drifloon for a super effective attack. Drifloon sure felt that attack and attempted to use Astonish but Buizel attacked with Water Gun stopping the attack before it could make contact. All the repeated attacks seemed to have weakened Drifloon enough for me to throw a Pokeball at the weakened opponent. I threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Drifloon has been registered to your Pokedex. Drifloon the Balloon Pokemon a Ghost and Flying Type. It is whispered that any child who mistakes Drifloon for a balloon and holds on to it could go missing."

Drifloon was quite the quiet Pokemon, staying more to himself but still seemed to open up to me whenever we were alone. Drifloon also seemed to appreciate the fellow company of Staravia as they both were Flying Types. After the capture of Drifloon I decided to return to Floaroma Meadow and see if the honey had attracted any Pokemon. I had known that there were a multitude of new Pokemon that could be caught using this method. The rarest would have to be Munchlax or Heracross, though I already had a Heracross that I caught in Johto. Once I arrived I immediately saw a bustling amount of Pokemon at the honey tree.

I could see a multitude of Wurmple sapping at the honey, but they were soon chased off by an extremely aggressive Combee that began slathering up the honey as quick as possible. Hearing me approaching, the Combee turned around in defence of the honey it had acquired. That's when I realised that this specific Combee was actually a female which would allow me to then acquire a Vespiquen. Sensing what was about to happen Combee flew on over buzzing angrily at the prospect of someone trying to steal her honey.

"Drifloon I need your help!" Drifloon appeared lazily observing Combee as she approached. "Use Gust Drifloon!" Drifloon created a light breeze which Combee countered by also using Gust. The two Gusts seemed evenly matched, but eventually Drifloon proved himself to be stronger and managed to overpower Combee. The super effective attacks did a lot of damage and I threw a Pokeball at the weakened Combee watching as the ball shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Combee has been registered to your Pokedex. Combee the Tiny Bee Pokemon a Bug and Flying Type. The trio is together from birth. It constantly gathers nectar from flowers to please Vespiquen."

This Combee however, no longer gathered nectar to please Vespiquen instead she gathered her nectar in order to please her new trainer, me. I didn't really need the nectar but through research I learned it could be used to attract Pokemon on these honey trees. When I released Combee she immediately flew back over to the honey tree and seemed furious to see a Pokemon had appeared and was eating her honey that she had claimed first. I noticed that the newcomer was a Cherubi a Grass Type and decided to have a go at catching the new Pokemon.

Combee was more than happy to fight against this interloper that had dared to steal honey from her. "Use Gust!" Combee angrily flapped her wings creating a very powerful Gust fueled by her extreme anger. The attack easily blew Cherubi off the tree, much to its anger as well. "Now use Bug Bite!" Combee attacked using Bug Bite while Cherubi attempted to use Tackle. Combee was much to angry however and landed a super effective Bug Bite weakening Cherubi. I threw a Pokeball and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Cherubi has been registered to your Pokeded. Cherubi the Cherry Pokemon a Grass Type. Sunlight covers it red. When the small ball is drained of its nutrients and shrivelled, evolution is near."

Combee immediately dashed on over to the honey tree before realising that the honey had been eaten by the remaining Wurmple who immediately scurried away to avoid the wrath of the angry Combee. I apologised to Combee and offered her some berries which she accepted reluctantly. I released Cherubi who seemed despondent but accepted the berries as well. The two honey tree Pokemon seemed to be reluctant to share but when confronted by their new trainer they decided sharing wasn't all that bad. With the honey cleared from the tree I decided to continue on my way up north to reach Eterna City and keep an eye out for my honey trees where I could catch some more Pokemon.

I headed back through Floaroma Town and arrived at Route 205 continuing past Valley Windworks. My first opponent was a Camper who sent out s Ponyta and I sent out my Buizel having him use Water Gun defeating Ponyta. Next a Hiker challenged me with three Geodude and I sent out my Cherubi having him use Leafage defeating the three Geodude. Continuing on a Aroma Lady challenged me with a Roselia and I sent out my Monferno having him use Flame Wheel defeating Roselia. Continuing on a Picnicker sent out a Bidoof and I sent out my Bibarel having him use Rock Smash defeating Bidoof. The second Pokemon sent out was a Pachirisu and I substituted for my Kricketune having him use Fury Cutter repeatedly defeating Pachirisu.

Heading north I was challenged by a Hiker who sent out an Onix and I sent out my Prinplup having him use Bubble Beam which was super effective defeating Onix. Next was a Battle Girl who sent out a Machop and I sent out my Drifloon having him use Gust defeating Machop while being immune to any Fighting attacks. Next was a Camper who sent out a Aipom and I sent out my Combee having her use Bug Bite defeating Aipom. The final trainer was a Picnicker who sent out a Piplup and I sent out my Pachirisu having him use Spark defeating Piplup.

I had reached the end of Route 205 and decided to now enter the Eterna Forest which had a few new Pokemon that I could catch to complete the Pokedex and train my new Pokemon as well. At that I entered the forest and noticed just how dark the forest was in comparison to the previous Route. Turns out the trees pretty much blocked the sunlight from shining through making the forest look eerily creepy and dark. That may also be why many Ghost Pokemon inhabited Eterna Forest as well, Gastly and Misdreavus to name a few, with Murkrow watching travellers in the dark.

I began exploring the grass in the forest and was immediately beseeched by lots of Bug Pokemon, Wurmple, Cascoon, Silcoon and even their evolutions swarmed around me. Thankfully, Monferno and Staravia managed to clear the Bug Pokemon out of my way. Eventually the first new encounter appeared a wild Buneary jumped from a nearby patch of grass and stared me down curious. "Come out Monferno!" Monferno appeared jumping as he observed Buneary carefully.

"Use Mach Punch!" At blinding speed Monferno dashed towards Buneary and landed a punch much too fast for Buneary to even retaliate from. Buneary was already down and out from the super effective move and as such I threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Buneary has been registered to your Pokedex. Buneary the Rabbit Pokemon a Normal Type. When it senses danger, it perks up its ears. On cold nights, it sleeps with its head tucked into its fur." I thanked Monferno and healed up Buneary who seemed a little disappointed at how easily he had been defeated but I reassured him that he was strong just was up against someone who had a type advantage and a good trainer.

Monferno mentioned that last part as he jumped onto my shoulder showing Buneary that the reason he lost was because I had made Monferno into the powerhouse he currently was. Buneary seemed curious and decided he would give this new trainer a chance and see just how powerful he could become. I was happy that Buneary was willing to give me a chance and began our training immediately. However, I decided to do some research on some new Pokemon and see if anything else was available. Rotom had informed me that in the Old Shateu deep inside Eterna Forest there was a rare Ghost Pokemon that I might want to investigate. However more to the point, apparently Turtwig could be found in Eterna Forest due to the environment being perfect for their species.

It did make sense, the forest was filled with all sorts of Grass and Bug Pokemon meaning it most be a suitable habitat for them. While training with Buneary I began searching for Turtwig and for several hours I searched and searched until I eventually came across the final starter of the Sinnoh Region. Buneary who had been growing to like me through our sessions together decided to battle the Turtwig for me. "Buneary use Quick Attack!" Buneary flew at lightning speed striking the unaware Turtwig. Turtwig glared at the Buneary who had attacked him before retaliating with Razor Leaf. "Buneary dodge that, then use Quick Attack again!" Buneary used Quick Attack and zipped between Razor Leaf before striking Turtwig once more with another powerful hit.

Seeing that Turtwig was sufficiently weakened I threw a Pokeball at the weakened Pokemon and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Turtwig has been registered to your Pokedex. Turtwig the Tiny Leaf Pokemon a Grass Type. It undertakes photosynthesis within its body, making oxygen. The leaf on its head wilts if the Pokemon is thirsty." Turtwig was quite the interesting Grass Type that eventually evolved into Torterra a Ground Type as well as a Grass Type which made for a interesting type combination.

For the moment I had caught all the Pokemon available in the forest and decided to battle against the trainers and see just how powerful I had become. The first opponent was a Bug Catcher who sent out a Wurmple and I sent out my Staravia having him use Wing Attack defeating Wurmple. The second Pokemon sent out was a Silcoon and I continued battling with Staravia having him use a second Wing Attack defeating Silcoon. The final Pokemon sent out was a Beautifly and I decided to substitute for my Drifloon having him use Gust defeating the Bug Type Beautifly.

The second Bug Catcher sent out a Wurmple and I sent out my Prinplup having him use Peck defeating Wurmple. The second Pokemon sent out was a Cascoon and I substituted for my Luxio having him use Spark defeating Cascoon. I kept Luxio in against Dustox having him use Spark defeating Dustox. Next was a Psychic who sent out an Abra and I sent out my Combee having her use Bug Bite which was super effective against Abra. A second Psychic's Abra fell the same way to another Bug Bite. Next was a Lass who sent out a Pachirisu and I sent out my newly caught Turtwig having him use Razor Leaf which defeated Pachirisu.

Next was a Bug Catcher who sent out a Burmy a Bug Type that I had yet to catch and so I sent out my Buneary having him use Quick Attack defeating Burmy. The second Burmy was also defeated with a second Quick Attack. Next a Psychic sent out a Meditite and I sent out my Roselia having him use Magical Leaf defeating Meditite. The next Psychic sent out a Psyduck and I sent out my Bibarel having him use Headbutt defeating Psyduck.

After that battle I had already reached the end of the Eterna Forest but instead of leaving I decided to continue training to ensure each and every one of my Pokemon were strong enough to handle the next Gym. First was my newly caught Turtwig who had been improving surprisingly quickly against the multitude of Grass, Poison and Bug Pokemon all of which might have been difficult for Turtwig to win against. However, Turtwig and his Bite attack had been strong enough to send his opponents running away. Turtwig was a patient and quiet Pokemon, he trusted my commands and followed them faithfully. He had been getting along great with Monferno and Prinplup, fellow starter Pokemon from the Sinnoh Region.

Through our tough training sessions, Turtwig had already begun to evolve, which wasn't too surprising based on his level of strength when he had been caught. "Grotle has been registered to your Pokedex. Grotle the Grove Pokemon a Grass Type. Its shell is hardened soil. Some Pokemon come to peck the berries growing on the trees on its back." Grotle happily used his weight to force me down to the ground where he rubbed his face against mine. Grotle had definitely grown heavier from his evolution which didn't surprise me much, especially when I knew he would evolve into a Torterra a much heavier Pokemon.

Monferno was having a fun time against the Bug and Grass Pokemon in the forest, his Flame Wheel being repeatedly used to defeat those Pokemon easily. Monferno found the experience to be quite fun. Prinplup found the repeated battles to be rather annoying as they were keeping their training from leaving the forest. However, Prinplup realised that these opponents provided training opportunities and therefore understood why I was doing my due diligence in training them all. Staravia used his Wing Attack to send the Bugs back before they could attack me, much to my relief. When not battling Staravia landed on my shoulder and kept a close watch over my blind spots preventing any Pokemon from sneaking up on me.

Bibarel didn't have much trouble against the Grass Types simply because his Headbutt was so powerful that even at a type disadvantage Bibarel could defeat his opponents with great ease. Kricketune enjoyed the environment of Eterna Forest and even attracted the attention of many wild Kricketot who wanted to learn everything they could from their evolved form. This was much to Kricketune's embarrassment as his trainer observed the conversation. Luxio, kept a close eye on the surroundings, using his eyes and ears to ensure that no Pokemon attempted to attack me, he managed to stop a Murkrow from landing on me with a fierce growl. I could see Luxio joining forces with Houndoom, Manectric, Mightyena and Absol, as they considered me their alpha and they were my betas.

Roselia also loved the forest, he liked to ensure that the plants and trees were looking healthy as we walked through the forest. In that regard he was much like Roserade and when the two met, I'm certain they would get along really well. Combee had been improving steadily as she fluttered around defeating the wild Wurmple and their evolutions and after an extremely tough battle against a wild Beautifly she managed to achieve her evolution. "Vespiquen has been registered to your Pokedex, Vespqieun the Beehive Pokemon a Bug and Flying Type. It houses its colony in cells in its body and releases various pheromones to make those grubs do its bidding."

Vespiquen happily flew around me, thanking me for helping her reach her evolution and I happily congratulated her on working so hard. Pachirisu hadn't calmed down yet and still remained very excitable running around me whenever he got the opportunity to do so. In battle though he switched personality to become calm, focused and determined to win for his trainer. Buizel found the forest to be a good change of pace and gained new experiences of battling in new environments. I remained cautious against the multitude of Grass Pokemon but Buizel smirked showing off to his trainer that even at a disadvantage he still had enough power to keep himself safe. I had to admit that I found Buizel confidence and cockiness to be rather appealing.

Cherubi enjoyed the forest much like Roselia did, finding that the environment helped increase his strength. The wild Pokemon didn't seem to be able to slow down Cherubi's advance either. Shellos had enough powerful moves to stop the Grass Pokemon, especially since he had learned Hidden Power which seemed to be super effective against the Grass and Bug Pokemon. He also had Rain Dance which helped him power up his own Water moves as well. In double battles, Shellos worked extremely well with just about anyone thanks to his excellent moves and teamwork abilities. Drifloon stayed close by my side as we journeyed through the forest, he found the darkness of the forest to be empowering as he defeated the multitude of Grass Pokemon that challenged him.

Finally there was Buneary who had been improving at a excellent rate. Buneary had recently learned a move called Frustration which did more damage if the Pokemon hated their trainer. However, Buneary seemed to hate using Frustration as the attack seemed to be getting weaker and weaker as Buneary kept growing closer to me. I wouldn't say we were the best of friends just yet, as we had only recently met, however, at the pace we were currently going, it wouldn't be long until Buneary evolved into a Lopunny. At that I was confident I had trained up my Pokemon sufficiently enough and decided to return to the Eterna Forest once I had claimed the Eterna Gym badge which would allow me to explore the Old Shateu.
