DEEP SPACE: Chapter one - The U.N.E

A cargo bay... Bodies, crates. Then darkness again. A crowd of black-clad armed thugs transported crates and sacks from one ship to another, and when they were done they left, darkness... A few of them jumped into what seemed like a small fighter and flew out of the cargo bay before the large bay doors slowly closed. Then there was silence, everything was so dizzy, and trying to focus on something was out of question. There were something on her lap, it was soft and warm, but heavy. It didn´t matter, so tired, darkness slowly embraced the sight once again...

Another explosion, a sound that by now had been carved into her memory forever, shook the whole cargo bay making crates topple over and break. The second explosion rocked the room so hard that Lalana slammed her head so hard into the wall she immediately snapped back to reality, a trickle of blood ran down from her forehead and onto her cheek. Where had they taken her? She had to calm down and think... Think. She was in a cargo bay, still naked, the cracked-open crates and their contents lied scattered all over the floor. There was a fire down in the left corner, and right in front of her were the bodies of two young girls, dead. Raped and spent, probably died as the pirated dragged as many females as possible back to their ships.

The Lucast suddenly gasped in horror as she realized that Miwha was the soft warm weight in her lap, lying spread out right over her lap. Lalana feared the worst, was she... A shattered sigh of relief left her as her friend began moving slowly, waking up with a groan.

"Miwha! Look at me! Are you alright?" Lalana asked in a hushed whisper, a third explosion made a crate right next to them fall off its shelf and shatter, waking up the Opiri who squealed in terror.

"Shhh shh Miwha! We´re not dead yet... And I´m going to get us out of here!" The Lucast said, slowly testing her legs as she stood up, prepared for any explosion that might cause her to lose her balance. "La-Lalana it hurts..." The Opiri sobbed, and Lalana gasped in horror as she saw the bent leg of her friend, a leg of her species was not supposed to bend like that... It was broken. The Lucast had to swallow the lump in her throat before she could talk again. She quickly bent down, stroking Miwha over her cheek before as gentle as she could scooping her up into her arms. The cargo bay shook once again, but not from an explosion this time but from what sounded like a large cannon battery firing. This meant that they were no longer on the station but most likely on a pirate vessel.

Lalana managed to keep her balance as she hurried with her friend in her arms towards the emergency corner of the cargo bay, containing a one-man lifepod and medical supplies. Gently putting down her groaning friend she roughly pulled open the medical locker, rummaging through its contents before grabbing what she needed and piled it all up on the floor. Lalana was no expert in medicine, but she knew enough about the subject to help her friend.

She quickly picked up a bag from the pile of medical supplies labeled MGEO "Medical Gel. Emergency Only". Lalana ripped it open and poured the gel over Miwha´s broken leg, making the Opiri cry out in pain. Then she made a tight compression bandage supported by a piece of wood she found amongst the debris, for keeping the bones from moving around. It would have to do.

"W-what are you doing?" Miwha groaned as Lalana pushed the button to the one-man lifepod, it was small, intended for humans which meant that this originally was a human ship, but it had to do since Miwha most certainly would fir anyway.

"No! I´m not doing it, I won't leave you like some coward Lalana!" The Opiri squealed as her friend put her in the small confined place of the lifepod, there was not enough room for both of them. "I´d rather die here with you!" Miwha yelled and clawed at Lalana´s arms.

The Lucast felt tears roll down her chin as she checked the small supplybox of the lifepod. It contained dried nutriments and liquid for a week's survival, she also crammed the last bag of MGEO she could find into the already full supplybox and then forced it shut, trying to ignore the protests of her panicking friend. Lalana rushed away over the debris and picked up a blanket from a crate, but as she hurried back another explosion shook the ship, making her fall over as hundreds of crates fell down around her in a deafening crash. Miwha gasped horrified, but Lalana made it out from the rising dust unscratched with the blanket and her life still intact.

"Lalana please don't do this!" Miwha pleaded as the Lucast wrapped the blanket around her friend. "Please we need eachother..!"

Lalana wiped her eyes with the back of her paw as she leaned down into the lifepod and kissed Miwha long on the nose.

"I´ll find you, I promise..." She whispered and pulled her hear out of the lifepod, immediately pressing the EJECT button manually from the outside before Miwha had a chance to protest. She couldn´t bear hearing it any longer or it would break her.

The lifepod immediately sealed tight and a second later it shot out into space, separating her from her friend faster than a bullet shot from a rifle. She begged that the lifepod would find a planet to land on, they most often did but there were horrible stories of lifepods drifting around in the galaxy for years until someone hundreds of years later would find it and its since long deceased contents.

Then suddenly a huge explosion ripped off right next to her, punching a hole in the large bay doors. Lalana screamed as the vacuum began draining the cargo bay of all air, sucking everything in sight out into the deep space. Lalana held onto the handle of the medical locker for dear life as she felt the vacuum attempting to pull her closer. The pull was so strong and yanked her back and forth, she couldn´t hold on much longer... At least her friend made it, was the last thought that went through her mind as her paws slipped off the handle and she was mercilessly pulled towards the hole in the bay doors leading to the endless space outside, Lalana closed her eyes, wondering if it would be painful, if she would suffocate before she froze to death...

A deafening metallic crash was all she heard before her head slammed into the bay door. The Lucast lied curled up in the foetal position, her headache drowning the sounds of her raging heartbeat. Was this what humans called heaven? If so it was not very inviting.

Lalana looked up, and her heart made a skip as she saw what had happened. The blast shield had finally kicked in and sealed the leak, sparing her life. It felt like the life that had been stolen from her came rushing back. She wanted to run around and scream out her joy, but was simply too tired. She lay there beneath the bay doors for a few minutes, catching her breath as the cold metallic floor helped cooling down her naked body. She just wanted to sleep, and maybe she would wake up in her bed at the station, wake up from this horrible nightmare.

But she could not sleep now. The Lucast groaned in protest as she forced herself up on her legs. She had to get out of the cargo bay, there was no telling how long it would hold together. Distant explosions shook the ship so she guessed it was a pirate vessel of the larger sort. Lalana limped towards the only exit she could find with a quick scan of the ruined cargo bay, an open door with a sign above it saying "MAIN DECK".

The Lucast sighed as she realized it was a stairwell spiraling upwards, but she had to get away from here. The stairs were horrible and made her exhausted, but primal survival instinct was what drove her now.

Just as Lalana finally had made her way past the stairs and entered the main corridor another explosion rung in her ears, the shockwave sending her groaning to the floor. The lights went out for a few second before coming back on, flickering for a few moments, and it was then in the flickering light she realized that the corridor was full of bodies. All of them wearing black armor, rough looking humans and aliens of all sorts. The bullet wounds in the bodies and scattered across the walls told of the firefight that had taken place here. But against who?

She got her answer sooner than expected. Further away in the corridor lied a couple of bodies not belonging to the pirates. They wore gray combat uniforms that looked all the same except for symbols on their chestpieces varying in design and authority, and they were all human. Beneath the symbols they all had the same three letters enchased. U.N.E.

Lalana knew what it meant, but she couldn´t remember it, why couldn´t she? She realized it didn´t matter now anyway. The Lucast quickly bent down over a dead pirate and pulled off his shirt with a disgusted groan, tossing away the metal shoulderpads as they only would slow her down. The shirt was huge and reached all the way down to her knees, but it kept her warm which was vital is she was going to find a lifepod and survive in it, even though it reeked of sweat. She was about to leave when she stopped in the middle of the corridor, taking a better look around. It soon became clear for her that the floor was littered with weapons of all sorts, the only problem was that she knew nothing about them and the only time she had used one was on the station a few hours ago.

Lalana picked up a simple looking makeshift rifle from one of the pirates, leaving the advanced high-technology assault rifles the U.N.E humans had be. Feeling at least a bit safer and ready to go the female began sprinting down the long corridor, jumping over the bodies of the dead. Her eyes quickly scanned over the electric signs that were hanging over the walls with arrows leading into side-corridors and sealed doors. It was easy to get lost on a large ship like this. Life support, no... Weapon control (OFFLINE) no... Armory (DISABLED) no... Crew Deck no... Docking Bay (BOARDED-ALERT) no... Engineering Deck no... Bridge, yes! Lalana finally found what she was looking for. If she was able to get to the bridge then she could send out a distress signal, it should be easy enough since most conventional emergency systems were designed to be able to used by anyone.

She kept following dotted line on the wall that led towards the bridge. Finally after what seemed like an eternity she felt a glimpse of hope. As she ran the corridor soon turned into a hallway as she entered the command section of the ship. And there at the end of the hallway was a large door labeled "BRIDGE". A group of dead pirates lied dead on the floor in front of the large steel door, but as Lalana got close she saw that the door was open slightly, the locking mechanism seemed to have been blown up by a small explosive. Someone was inside, still alive.

The Lucast sneakily crept up towards the door and leaned lightly against it, keeping the makeshift rifle ready even though she had no idea if it would fire or not. She held her breath and attempted to eavesdrop but all she heard was her own speeding heart. Trying to calm herself down she made another try, still nothing but her heart beating, it sounded so incredible loud...

Then she realized that it wasn´t her heart hindering her from hearing anything inside, nobody was talking at all, complete silence. Only the hum of the ship´s damaged engines far away, and the crackling noise of a fire somewhere.

Lalana slowly opened the door, apart from a dead pirate on the floor she saw nothing and heard nothing. Perhaps she had imagined the voices in her head, perhaps she was going crazy.

None of it mattered though. Lalana held the rifle tight as she entered the bridge, carefully looking over the buzzing computers lined up against the walls on both sides. The large spaceview window in front of the bridge only showed the endless space in front of the ship, no other vessels in sight. Where was the pirate flotilla? Or the attackers? Nothing seemed to make sense as she slowly walked up towards the nearest computer that looked more important than the others. She did not understand a thing of the layout, and there were buttons and switches everywhere accompanied by complicated instruction labels. Lalana knew how to work the cockpit of the average transportation vessel, something you had to know living in space. But this was no simple everyday family ship; these controls looked more like they belonged to a Freighter class vessel. Instead she began scanning for something more simpler, like a button or label saying "EMERGENCEY" or "DISTRESS", anything.

"STUNNING! Keep clear!" A voice went off directly behind her making Lalana yell in horror as she spun around. A man in gray armor stood just a few inches from her with an expressionless look on his face, aiming a pistol like object against her chest.

A loud bang rang in the girl's ears as what seemed like a ball of energy left the pistol faster than a speeding bullet and slammed into her chest. Her eyes widened as all the air in her lungs immediately left her body, sending her frozen to the floor chipping for air like possessed. A strong boot pushed her head to the ground holding her in place as men in gray uniforms began to fill the bridge leaving their hiding places. The makeshift pirate rifle was forcefully ripped from her paws and something that felt like handcuffs was placed on her wrists behind her back.

"Didn´t know the Marshton gang allowed females." Someone mumbled. Lalana attempted to move but all of her limbs felt so exhausted to the point where she couldn´t use them at all, the work of the stun pistol no doubt.

"Yeah? So what, I don't give a shit about the gender, a pirate´s a pirate." A harsh tone answered as they pulled the Lucast over on her back. Now Lalana was at least able to see her attackers. They all wore gray armor above a black military snugsuit. Most of them wore helmets, some with faceguards and some without. But what was most impressive with them was their weapons, polished and from the looks of it the latest technology, these guys weren´t kidding around. As the humans returned to examining the pirates computer files after having been interrupted one of the younger soldiers took a step closer as he snuck a peak under the huge black shirt.

"Holy shit sarge, she´s all nude under the shirt!" The soldier burst out as he pulled up the black shirt with the barrel of his assault rifle, his eyes staying fixated on her sex for a tad too long before he continued. "M-maybe she isn´t a pirate?"

A large man with a ragged goatee and a scarred face sighed and removed his helmet, turning away from the computer he was trying to get to work. He bit his lower lip as he slowly made his way towards the youngling.

"I don't give a flying fuck about what you think private! You are supposed to keep your mouth shut on the mission or I´ll stitch it up, understood?"

"Yes sir!" The soldier stammered as he panicked into attention and saluted.

Then the narrow eyes of the commanding sergeant turned towards the winded up Lucast on the floor. He fell on his knees and grabbed Lalana by her ears, forcing her face into his as he glared at her.

"We finally tracked you down huh? You and all of your buddies. Trust me kid, by the end of the day you will have wished we killed you instead of what awaits you now..." He said, his eyes cold as ice. "I could kill you right here, crush your pathetic skull with my own hands and be done with it..." He continued. "But it´s against regulations... So welcome to the United Nations of Earth, sweetie. Doubt you´ll be leaving it any time soon.
