This one-shot is a rewrite and a sequel to the events appearing at the end of episode 52 of Sonic X, mainly based on a mix of the original and the French version. Art cover by Anita-Ermine.
The morning had not yet risen.
Sonic was flying through the sky in his Super Sonic form. His golden quills fluttered in the wind as he was descending like a shooting star. He had just left Earth to return to Mobius, his native land he had left for so long. He was still heartbroken after leaving Chris, but he also missed his friends who had already returned. One in particular. And it was her that he wished to visit first.
Some time ago, not so long ago, Sonic had saved a young hedgehog from the clutches of Metal Sonic and Robotnik, and she never left him since. She was calling herself Sonic's girlfriend. It didn't really bother him. She was admittedly a little clingy, but over time she had become a reliable friend.
Amy wasn't home. A whole week had passed on Mobius. A whole week without Sonic. She felt alone. She was spending that night with Cream and her mother. But Amy couldn't sleep. She had made the decision to be strong and wait for Sonic, no matter how long it would take. But deep down, it was difficult and the next nights after this decision risked being sleepless. She imagined the worst. What if Sonic would come back when she's an old hedgehog? What if he just never came back?
Amy then noticed the golden comet that Sonic's flight was forming in the distance. It was him. There was no doubt. And on top of that, the comet was heading towards her house. "Sonic! Sonic is finally back!" she said happily, running with all her might towards her house.
As Sonic was flying to Amy Rose's house, he thought back to his last few months with her on Earth. Especially that day when she made him that lucky bracelet at the beach, and he risked his fear of water to save her again. That's when he realized he had feelings for her, much stronger than he imagined... But Sonic was a shy one when it came to showing his affection...
The day finally broke on the beach near the village of Emerald City, and Sonic landed in front of Amy's house. His Super Sonic power faded, and he went back to that royal blue color he usually has. He was about to ring the doorbell when he heard a gasp behind him. He turned around and saw Amy, panting. Her pink fur and spines had a little sweat that glistened in the morning sun. He had never found her so beautiful before.
"I guess she was at Cream or Tails and saw me coming. Sonic thought. She must have felt lonely all this time..." Sonic smiled, seeing the beautiful pink hedgehog, "Yo!" he said simply, equal to himself.
A thundering "YOU IDIOT!" came out as a response, which made him jump a little. Amy continued, "Do you realize what I've been through?! A whole week without seeing you! Do you realize how sad and worried I was?!"
Sonic continued to smile. He more or less expected this reaction from Amy. She resumed, tears welling up in her eyes, the sobs coming more and more to mingle with her words, which returned more and more strongly to Sonic's heart.
"I thought you would never come back! I thought, more than a hundred times, that you would end up coming back, but nothing... It was endless, I thought I was going crazy... So, I made the decision last night that I will wait for you forever, tirelessly, even if I become very old. "
Amy's face was covered in tears.
"I had decided that last night, and you... And you reappear! Amy continued, collapsing to her knees. You reappear just as I make this decision! You idiot !" She burst into heavy sobs in a mixture of joy and relief. Sonic remained smiling and almost impassive, but deep down, Amy also made him want to cry. He decided at that time never to worry Amy again, even if it meant settling things once and for all.
"I beg you, Sonic! Please, say it! Tell me that you love me !" It was too much for the blue hedgehog. He couldn't ignore this call.
Amy opened her eyes and through her tears she saw her beloved hero handing her a rose. Her sobs stopped short, but her tears continued to flow, blurring her vision. She guessed what was happening and had a little trouble believing it... Then he heard the blue hedgehog's voice say those words she had been waiting for so long.
"Of course I love you, Amy! Since forever !"
Sonic's words echoed in her head, and the flood of tears doubled. Happiness washed over her. Without a word, she fell into Sonic's arms, crying harder. Sonic chuckled, tickled by the hedgehog's embrace. Sonic's soft chuckles turned Amy's sobs into laughter too. Never in all her life had she been so happy. Her lifelong hero, the male she had fallen in love with for so long, shared the same feelings as her.
Five minutes passed and Amy's crying subsided. She hugged Sonic tightly, enjoying his warmth, "Why did it take you so long to tell me, you idiot?" she said with a small giggle.
Sonic caressed Amy's cheek and looked into her eyes as green as his, "You know... I... I seem cool and sure of myself, but... When it comes to love, I'm really shy and embarrassed... Please forgive me. I'm sorry for making you wait so long. It was hard to find the right moment... I really love you, Amy!"
Unable to resist his words and his soft gaze, she approached Sonic and planted her lips on his. Sonic instantly responded to the kiss, both of them letting out a moan of delight. Sonic then realized more and more the strength of his feelings. When the kiss ended, He smiled and a tear finally came out of one of his eyes, looking at his beloved. "Yes, I love you, Amy! I love you !" He said louder, hugging her and repeating it again, as if to make up for all the times he wanted to tell her how he felt. Amy cried again, but with full happiness this time "Me too! I love you too, Sonic. I love you so much!" she replied to each of his "I love you"s.
They stayed at least 30 more minutes on the ground in front of the house, in each other's arms, looking at each other and kissing for a long time, unable to detach themselves from each other... Then, Sonic gave a yawn that made Amy yawn as well.
"I haven't slept since that sleepless night with Chris. And the power of Super Sonic made me a little tired." he confessed, embarrassed. Amy chuckled. "It's the same for me. I haven't slept..." She timidly screwed her finger up at Sonic's lightly muscled chest. "Would you like to sleep at my house?"
Sonic blushed like a tomato and gulped. "I... It's okay for you?" Amy nods gently, blushing too. "I think we both need a night's sleep!" Sonic smirked, "Even if it's more of a morning sleep!" They laughed softly, and Sonic realized how much he enjoyed hearing Amy's laugh.
"Now that we're a couple, I already have the impression of seeing her in a new light," he said to himself.
Amy led Sonic home, and they lay directly on her bed, side by side, too tired to do anything else... Amy wrapped her arms around Sonic, her head on his chest. She felt a bit surprised he doesn't run away from her this time. Sonic had made up his mind never to run from her again.
"I love you, my Sonikku..." she said.
She drifted off to sleep right after hearing her dear lover reply, "I love you too, Amy."
