Anniversary of a Server Made For Us
This is a poem I made for the BIPOC Fur Hangout Discord for the one year anniversary of the server back in July of last year though it wound up coming out just a bit later than that. It's a server that means a lot to me for multiple reasons and is a good place to hang out and chill. If you're BIPOC and haven't joined already I highly recommend doing so(I'll link the Twitter which has an invite link to the discord). Originally posted in August 2021

Anniversary of a Server Made for Us

It's hard to believe it's now been over a year
I still remember the beginning
Questioning if I should join or not and all the worries and fears
Of course at the end of a few days worth of hesitation I did
And today I'm so happy with that decision I can't imagine if I hadn't joined, god forbid
Joining the server has changed my life so much and for the better in so many ways
Sometimes the extent of that still leaves me amazed
Making new friends, learning new facts and getting connected to do fun things like watch movies
It's a place to feel safe, to laugh at in-jokes, appreciate all types of art and swap stories
A place to receive support, share culture, have an event or two and just be who we are freely
It's a place where we don't have to worry about potentially becoming some weird person's allegory
To have a space we made ourselves to chill with others like us
And not have to carry the expectations of a harsh, unfair and unforgiving world
Because when you're BIPOC you're just expected to take all the stuff that from it is hurled
But in the server we made for ourselves we're free to be ourselves happily
With people who can understand, make us feel better and even help with our society given woes
It's just nice to have a space where it doesn't feel like you have to fight scrappily to be seen, valued and truly heard
To not have to take extra precautions with what we say and do, to not be constantly on our toes
This place where we can just escape our worries and cares along with others trying to do the same
It's a discord server that has a name
It's called the BIPOC Fur Hangout
It's been a year since it was made and hopefully this gave insight into what it's about
It's an amazing server full of amazing people which you can join if you're a POC too
I hope you can join us and see as well as experience all that's in the server to do
But even if you can't you can still help us from the outside celebrate this 1 year anniversary
