I Hate That I Love You

, , ,

I've written too much happy stuff recently and figured I'd try my hand with something a little more sad. Enjoy? I think? I don't know. This one's weird, even by my standards and I don't know if I like it. But have fun.

I hate that I love my boyfriend.

The thought played through Zane Maybrick's mind as he watched Coby Chapman jog, just a few paces ahead of him through the park. Without a doubt, Coby was enjoying himself and the fresh air, especially after having been sick for the past week and confined to the apartment they shared. Without a doubt, the doberman was pleased to be out and about, his usually boundless energy manifesting itself in a desire to move, to smile and to laugh.

I hate how much taller you are than me...

Zane watched as the doberman's space slowed, just enough to allow Zane to run alongside him. Coby smiled down at the smaller lion, though anyone would've looked small in Zane's mind compared to Coby.

I hate how perfect your teeth are.

Coby smiled back at him, momentarily losing himself in those bright, azure-colored eyes that had, for the past week, been clouded by illness and exhaustion. Those eyes seemed to sparkle in the sunlight, giving them an almost hypnotizing, supernatural effect on the lion-his eyes seemed to shine even more than the doberman's flawless fur.

I hate how I love your eyes.

After the first lap around the park, they seated themselves on an empty bench, Coby downing a large gulp of a sports drink from his water bottle, secured by a strap onto his waist. He soon handed it over and Zane took a swig.

Why are you so kind?

"Want some ice cream? Or sherbert?" Coby asked. "It's kind of a hot day and we haven't really treated ourselves for a bit."

"Oh, sure, if you want to," Zane answered. "Whatever you want, sweetheart."

The doberman's smile widened. "And later, don't we have that dinner at your parents'? What time do we have to be there?"

"Around six, they said," Zane reminded him. "You sure you want to go? Not feeling sick anymore at all?"

"Are you kidding?" Coby chortled, jumping to his feet. He flexed his muscles, pulling at his sleeveless shirt. "I feel like a million bucks. I think I can get back into the octagon soon. Can't wait to have another match."

"Don't push yourself, Coby," Zane said warningly, rising. He took Coby's paw into his own.

I hate how soft your fur is and how strong your arms are. I hate how safe they make me feel.

"I'm not gonna push myself too far," Coby said sweetly. "I promise I'll be careful."

"Good," Zane said. He pulled Coby closer into a sweet, kind kiss. "I don't need you getting yourself hurt again."

"I won't do that," Coby promised. "If I did, I wouldn't be able to be there for you like I promised." He flashed his finger, a small band of silver shining. "Still hard to believe, right? Only two months away."

"Two months... and then I'll be your husband," Zane reminded himself. "Can't wait."

And then, maybe, you can really be mine...

"Zane! Coby!" greeted Syrus Maybrick as Zane and Coby stepped over the threshold into the Maybrick family home, where Syrus and Zane had both grown up. Syrus took a moment to hug both Zane and Coby before leading them into the living room where Mr. Maybrick, Zane's father, was watching one of his favorite game shows, his mane freshly trimmed and brushed.

Mr. Maybrick's face lit with joy as he beheld his younger son, pushing up from his armchair to hug Zane and his soon-to-be son-in-law. Zane took in his appearance-the dad bod seemed to flatter everything about Mr. James Maybrick and the sandy-blond mane framed his face handsomely. Syrus, though his mane was a dark brown, looked like a lithe, lean swimmer, a young face framed by a playfully messy mane.

Why are you both more handsome than me?

"Alyssa! Zane and Coby are here!" Mr. Maybrick called.

From the kitchen, Zane heard his mother's reply-judging from the smell, she was making his personal favorite dish: her wonderful meatloaf.

"Oh, give me just a minute!" Mrs. Alyssa Maybrick yelled back.

Soon, the lioness had bounded into the living room, eagerly pulling them both into a tight hug. Mrs. Maybrick smiled joyfully at them, before frowning at Zane's features.

"Look at you," she said in clear disapproval. "When are you going to grow out that mane? Why do you keep cutting it? You look so... feminine without one."

Because it looks wrong on me.

"Sorry, Ma, maybe I'll let it grow out later."

She patted his cheek lovingly. "It's fine. It's your face, you decide what you do with it. Can you set the table? Dinner's almost ready."

Ten minutes later, Zane found himself helping Syrus set the table, Coby chatting jovially with his father in the other room. Zane kept stealing glances at his older brother, who was humming happily to himself, as if he had not a care in the world, singing along to a song that Zane realized with a moment of embarrassment that he recognized.

"Tell me that's not the song I just put online," Zane said sheepishly.

Syrus perked up, as if he'd never even noticed Zane was in the dining room. "Oh, yeah, it is. Not sure why you haven't gotten a record deal yet. You've got an awesome voice."

You know you sing better than I ever could.

"Thanks," Zane said, "but I don't do music for money. I just do it for fun. What's new with you?"

"Well, I've got some big news to share, but I'm gonna announce it at dinner," Syrus said, nearly bouncing on his feet in an attempt to reel in his excitement. "Trust me, you'll never guess how amazing this will be."

"Can I get a hint?"

"It involves swimming."

"Okay...?"

What new way have you come up with to outdo me?

Within another ten minutes, they were all seated around the table, Mrs. Maybrick at his father's right with Syrus at the left. Zane sat across from Coby, who seemed to be focusing all of his attention on Mr. Maybrick, continuing their conversation. By what Zane could hear, it was a conversation about rules of official mixed martial arts matches.

It was a few minutes into the meal when Syrus cleared his throat noisily, a sound that almost made Zane think he was choking.

"So, guys, you know how I've been training a lot recently?" Syrus said, eager excitement coloring his voice. "Well, there's a really good reason for it. I've been chosen to represent the country at the Olympics in Germany in the summer."

A moment's silence followed this, pierced only by Mrs. Maybrick's shocked gasp. Her paws clapped over her mouth in utter surprise and Syrus waited, smile wide as the news broke over the family.

"Are you serious?!" Mr. Maybrick finally managed to sputter out.

"Very serious," Syrus replied, "and I was thinking we could use the Olympics for our family vacation next year. We've never been to-OW!"

Mr. Maybrick had pulled Syrus into a hug so tight that Zane thought his elder brother's head might pop off his neck.

"THAT'S MY BOY!" Mr. Maybrick said. "GONNA BRING HOME GOLD!"

"Let him go, James," Mrs. Maybrick said, gently tapping her husband's shoulder.

Of course. You're about to do something spectacular when I can only get four people to listen to my music...

"Congratulations!" came Coby's powerful, joyful voice. He stood, reaching over the table to offer a handshake, which Syrus accepted. Zane studied Coby's face, his heart sinking as he saw the brightness in his fiancee's eyes.

I thought that look was for me...

"Yeah, it's been a lot of hard work and there's still plenty more to do," Syrus said, looking humbled. "But I know I'll bring home gold. We can hang it up on the Wall."

Zane swallowed-the Wall was a wall in the hallway, filled with framed plaques and certificates, degrees and diplomas. Against the Wall was a trophy case, filled with all matter of gold, silver and bronze, hardly any of which had his name.

Humble-bragger... How much more do you need?

He looked at Coby's face. The doberman was eagerly engaging Syrus about how he was training, how long it took for Syrus to qualify for the Olympics and how he'd continue to train to win a gold medal. There was a brightness, an excitement in Coby's face that Zane hadn't seen in a long time. His jaw tightened.

You still... even after we've been engaged...

The conversation about the Olympics hadn't worn out, even as they had returned to the living room, a homemade chocolate cake split up between them. Zane listened absentmindedly, having said scarcely more than two words since the topic had arisen almost an hour ago. His eyes kept focusing on Coby, who was seated beside him. Zane leaned his head against the doberman's shoulder, focusing on those eyes, those bright eyes he hoped would look back to him. A smile. Anything.

Do you even remember that I'm here?

Syrus was eagerly engaging Coby as well, replying with long, detailed answers, pleased to see Zane taking in every word.

You don't even know what you do to him.

Coby's arm wrapped around Zane suddenly and Zane looked up. Coby still wasn't even looking at him. It had been a long while since Zane had truly thought of how much Coby and Syrus had in common. How long they'd been friends, how they'd met in middle school and had been nearly inseparable.

How Syrus had respectfully refused Coby's clumsy invite to homecoming as a couple. Syrus, after all, wasn't gay...

But you still love him, don't you?

"So," Syrus said after the conversation finally seemed to have exhausted itself, "when's your big wedding? Do you already got the rings?"

Coby flashed his engagement ring. "Yep. And I was gonna ask you to be my best man."

In spite of himself, Zane's fists clenched. Something in him flared, a sudden anger and he wasn't sure where it had come from or if it was even justified. Syrus's eyes had gone wide and Zane bit his lip on the comments forming in his mouth.

I don't want him there.

"Really?!" Syrus said, his voice excited and strangely squeaky. "Hell, yeah, you know I would."

Please no. I'm tired of being second place to you.

Coby jumped up and Zane had to catch himself to keep from falling over. He watched as they embraced in a brotherly way, as if they'd been separated for so long and had finally reunited.

Don't take him from me... please...

"That's really good for him," Coby said as they returned to their apartment. Zane put the leftovers they'd been given into the fridge, Coby close behind. "Do you think one day I'll ever compete in the Olympics?"

"Maybe," Zane replied, giving a weak, frail smile. "Keep working at it and you'll get there."

"Thanks, baby," Coby said, kissing his forehead. "And you know, one day, you'll be playing to cheering crowds at the Superbowl."

Zane scoffed. "That's just a pipe dream. You actually have a chance to be rich and famous one day."

"So do you."

I love how much you encourage me.

Coby kissed him once more, then again, lower on his neck. Zane gasped, surprised by the sudden action. He leaned in closer as Coby nipped gently at his neck, sliding his shirt until his right shoulder was exposed.

"You're teasing me," Zane gasped.

Coby pulled back. "You know what's going through my mind?"

"At least let's take it to the bedroom," Zane suggested.

"Too far!" Coby growled, lifting Zane up. Zane let out a squeak of surprise as he was carried, bridal-style, into the living room.

I love your strength.

Coby set him onto the couch, hovering over him with a look of almost feral want on his face. He looked like a predator who'd finally caught his prey. Coby's hands seized Zane's t-shirt, ripping it apart eagerly.

I love your dominance.

They kissed again and Coby continuously nipped at Zane's lips, then his neck.

I love that sinful mouth of yours.

Deft, agile fingers were at Zane's waist, undoing his belt and pulling his zipper downward. He felt Coby reach into his briefs and pull his manhood out. Zane bit his lip on the moan that threatened to escape as Coby began to stroke him.

"You want it too, don't you? I saw how you couldn't keep your eyes off me all through dinner."

I need you...

"I want you so bad," breathed Zane. He watched as Coby lowered himself, taking Zane into his mouth in one fluid movement. Zane's body twisted at the sensation, Coby's mouth sending shockwaves of pleasure through every inch of his body.

I love that fire in my body that only you can feed.

Coby pulled back with a wink, getting off the couch just enough to drop his shorts, revealing the deep blue jockstrap that he knew Zane loved.

I hate how you can get me going without trying...

"How do you want me?" Coby asked in that husky, sultry voice as he climbed back onto the couch, hovering over Zane.

"I wanna breed you," Zane insisted, his brain clouded by lust.

Coby smiled, maneuvering himself until he was hovering over Coby's hard length. He stared directly into Coby's eyes as he forcefully lowered himself. Coby winced only slightly as he began to gyrate his hips, coaxing Zane's body to twist and push upwards, eagerly chasing that peak.

I love how perfectly I fit inside you...

"Fuck, I love this," Coby said, practically shouting in his lust-filled haze, his tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth in a happy, satisfied expression.

"Me too," Zane managed to say back, grasping Coby's sides as if they were his seatbelt on the most dangerous ride of his life. He could feel himself starting to lose control.

"Fuck, I love you, Sy!"

Zane's blood ran cold, his lust breaking, even as his orgasm racked his body. He felt himself fill Coby, but his heart felt as if it had shattered. Coby exhaled a heavy breath, looking downward into Zane's eyes directly, as if he had no idea what he had just said.

Carefully, he rose from Zane's softening member, moving closer to present his own, still enclosed in the jockstrap, leaking so much pre that Coby was positive that his underwear would be permanently stained by it.

Zane licked at the pouch, tasting the pre and trying to force himself to not cry.

I hate that I love how you taste.

He pulled at the pouch until Coby's hard member peeked out. With his paws kneading the dog's rear, he pulled Coby closer until he had the hard length in his mouth, swallowing around it in an attempt to force Coby to finish quickly. His fingers found the rim of Coby's hole and pushed in, stirring up the thick cum inside. He felt Coby's knot at his mouth and suppressed a sudden desire for more.

Coby suddenly pulled out, moving until his rear was right above Zane's mouth. Understanding instantly, Zane's tongue darted out, tasting himself on Coby's leaking hole.

I love the way you react to me. But are you thinking of me..?

When Coby pulled away from Zane, he was stroking himself roughly, one paw closed around his knot.

I hate how much I need it when you don't need me?

Coby's head tilted backwards as he came undone, Zane's mouth open to catch as much as he could. He felt Coby's cum on his face, then tasted it in his mouth, feeling his lust beginning to resurge.

Why do I love being claimed by you when you're not thinking of me?

As Coby's orgasm subsided, he peered down at Zane again, a look of love clear on his face as the afterglow began to set in. Coby leaned downward and kissed him deeply, eagerly tasting himself in Zane's mouth.

"I love you," the doberman said kindly.

"I love you too," Zane said, his heart breaking as the words tumbled out.

I wish it didn't hurt...

"Know what I'm thinking?" Coby challenged.

"Round 2?"

"Want to?"

"I'd love to."

I hate how peaceful you can sleep.

Zane stared at Coby, asleep in a pair of boxer briefs and a tank top, looking cuddly and peaceful. Zane's back and rear was sore from the harsh thrusts Coby had pounded into him and he was sure he could still feel the remnants of their lovemaking both in and on him. They'd showered right after, but a round three in the shower had rendered it slightly pointless.

I hate how good you feel in me.

They had been cuddling for a while, watching one of Zane's favorite movies. Coby had been very vocal about how nonsensical he had found the film, but he watched it anyway.

Because it made Zane happy. Because to him, it was worth it to see Zane smile.

I hate how lucky I am to have you.

Coby moaned in his sleep, turning slightly until he was on his side, turned away from Zane. Zane stared at him, his jaw quivering as he felt the tears start to sting at his eyes.

Then, Coby spoke.

"Syrus..."

And Zane let himself cry, trying to be as silent as he could to prevent himself from waking his fiancee.

I hate that I could never hate you. I hate that no matter what I do, no matter how hard I try, I couldn't love you more...

And I hate myself for loving you...
