#53 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo challenges Wallace and catches new Pokemon deep inside Meteor Falls.

After my Pokemon were fully healed at the Pokemon Centre I prepared myself for the final gym battle in the Hoenn Region. Wallace might well be considered the strongest gym leaders compared to other gym leaders I had faced in previous regions. Since he was considered to be on par to the level of Steven Stone the current champion. Still, my Pokemon had all been growing super strong, they'd gained so much experience and knowledge and we trusted one another. It all meant no matter what we would defeat Wallace and continue winning every battle we faced. At that I made my way to the Sootopolis Gym and you could tell it was a Water Gym based on the design.

As I entered the Water Gym I noticed that the gym seemed almost similar back to when I battled Misty back in Cerulean City. I could see Wallace as he practiced with his multitude of Water Pokemon. His Milotic seemed to be the centre stage of his performances and battling skills it seemed. "Hm, I seem to have a visitor? Your not with the press are you? Here to witness my Pokemon's beauty for contests. If so you've come to the wrong place at the wrong time." At that I shook my head understanding why Wallace must be so annoyed with the press. Wallace was a Contest Star and as such the press rarely gave him any time to himself. It must be difficult to have some private time with his own Pokemon. "No, I'm Leo and I wanted to challenge you to a gym battle!"

Wallace sighed, "I will gladly accept your request. Know that I will show you the elegance, beauty and power of my Pokemon, both when we perform and battle too." At that me and Wallace took our positions as he returned his Pokemon. The referee began by stating the rules of the gym battle. "This will be a three on three battle between Leo of Viridian City and Wallace the Gym Leader of Sootopolis City. The battle will be over when one sides Pokemon are unable to continue battling. Incidentally, only the challenger will be able to substitute their Pokemon. Is that understood?" Wallace and I nodded our understanding and the referee nodded. "Alright then trainers please send out your Pokemon."

Wallace was first, "Show them your grace Walrein!" Walrein was first as it landed in the pool with a heavy splash. "I need your help Gallade!" Gallade appeared ready to help his master claim his final Hoenn Gym Badge. "Alright then, battle begin!" The referee declared. "Walrein use Ice Beam!" Walrein formed a ball of ice which he fired directly at Gallade. "Gallade jump from pontoon to pontoon and dodge it!" Gallade did have a slight disadvantage as he couldn't battle effectively in the water. However, Gallade did have the advantage of excellent speed and agility thanks to our expert training.

"I see your Gallade is quite the Pokemon. Such speed and grace while dodging, it's destined for great things in contests I assure you young man." I shook my head respectively. "That would be for Gallade to try, we've already competed once, but the scene wasn't for us. Battles are something Gallade and I prefer." Wallace seemed disheartened. "I see, however, since you have given contests a try I guess I shouldn't judge you so quickly. Now Walrein use Surf!" Walrein abandoned using Ice Beam and instead formed a massive wave which began descending towards Gallade rapidly. Though Gallade remained unfazed and I knew why. "Gallade use Leaf Blade right down the middle!"

Gallade smirked in agreement, as he formed a Leaf Blade before jumping to the top of the wave, where Walrein was positioned. "What are you planning?" Wallace murmured as he watched curiously. Walrein wasn't so curious, in fact, Walrein was shocked at the speed Gallade showed. Gallade then thrust Leaf Blade down the middle of the wave, cutting the water apart like it was nothing. The skill required to do so, was rather impressive if Wallace didn't say so himself. "Interesting, that's quite the powerful and strategic move." I smiled and Gallade landed back on the pontoon as he watched Walrein struggle to get back into the battle.

"If you think that you've won simply because of that, your sorely mistaken young man. Now Walrein dive down!" At that Walrein smirked and dived under the water as Gallade watched apprehensively wondering where Walrein would appear next. I watched the water carefully trying to gauge where Walrein would appear but it wouldn't be so easy to detect Walrein's presence. "Now Walrein Ice Beam!" Walrein poked his head out and fired a rapid Ice Beam scoring a direct hit against Gallade before diving back down under the water. "Now then how will you battle back now?" Wallace had regained his confidence and watched as Walrein continued his Ice Beam from under the water.

"Gallade, one more time, use Leaf Blade on the waves!" Gallade nodded not understanding what his trainer was planning but trusted in Leo. Gallade formed a Leaf Blade and slashed across the water creating a line in the water. The resulting shockwave managed to force Walrein out of the water and in the prime position. "Now Gallade lets finish it by using Close Combat at full power!" Gallade jumped upwards as Wallace tried to regain his advantage. "Walrein stop them using Ice Beam!" Walrein attempted to counter, but Gallade was much too fast landing blow for blow with the super effective Close Combat which was super effective against Walrein. Eventually Gallade landed and watched as Walrein plummeted into the water.

After a few moments of wondering whether Walrein was unable to battle, he floated to the surface, unable to battle. "Walrein is unable to battle, Gallade is the winner!" The referee declared as he raised his flags. "Walrein return you performed spectacularly. Rest assured your efforts will not be wasted." At that Wallace grabbed his second Pokeball. "Show them your strength and beauty, Swampert!" Swampert landed on the pontoon with a heavy thud staring down Gallade confidently. Gallade did have a good advantage, knowing Leaf Blade was super effective against a Water and Ground Type, such as Swampert. "Gallade return for now." Gallade nodded as he was returned to his Pokeball.

"You performed your part perfectly, I might need you later, but for now let Sceptile handle this." At that I grabbed Sceptile's Pokeball. "I need your help Sceptile!" Sceptile appeared confidently staring down Swampert who returned the look with a fierce glare. "First Gallade and now a Sceptile, I see you've done your research and formed a team that you believe has the complete advantage against my Water Pokemon. A wise move." Wallace commended his opponents strategy before smirking. "If you think just because you have the type advantage you've won, your mistaken. I'm a gym leader because I can create strategies to deal with my weakness." Swampert roared his agreement, while Sceptile nodded his head smirking confidently.

"Now then, enough talk, Swampert, Muddy Water!" Swampert formed a massive wave once again, this time, the water was muddier. "Sceptile jump and use Leaf Blade!" Once more Sceptile jumped right to the top of the wave, having formed a Leaf Blade ready to strike. "That same trick won't work again! Swampert use Ice Beam on Sceptile from where you are." At that Swampert fired Ice Beam directly at the approaching Sceptile. "Dodge that then strike!" I commanded as Sceptile swiftly dodged before slashing his Leaf Blade down the middle of the Muddy Water. Just as before with Gallade, the wave was stopped instantly and Swampert luckily had avoided the attack but seemed shocked at the demonstration of power and speed Sceptile showed.

"That Sceptile, it's even faster and more agile than your Gallade. I must commend you, the method you train your Pokemon must be fierce and effective." Wallace said as he observed Sceptile who seemed a little smug hearing praise about himself and his masters training methods. Sceptile himself had to agree, Leo's training methods may seem long and difficult, but persevere and you will become so strong, that members of your own species don't even hold a candle compared to you. That's what Sceptile believed. "Sceptile lets power up and finish it with one move, use Swords Dance!"

Sceptile nodded swords forming around him as he danced in a circle. "Swampert stop them by using Ice Beam!" Swampert with surprising speed unleashed Ice Beam, but Swords Dance had been a complete success. "Block that by using X Scissor!" Sceptile crossed his arms together using X Scissor as Ice Beam began pushing him back. "Show them your full power Swampert!" Wallace shouted his encouragement as Ice Beam began pushing Sceptile back. "Sceptile did in your heals and break out!" Sceptile nodded, unleashing X Scissor dispersing the Ice Beam before dashing towards Swampert and unleashing X - Scissor. "Now finish with Leaf Blade!" Sceptile grinned slicing Swampert with the super effective move.

I think everyone knew that the battle was over after such a fierce display of power. The referee agreed as he saw Swampert unconscious. "Swampert is unable to battle, Sceptile is the winner." Wallace smiled, "return Swampert you showed such beauty and power that enamoured me." Wallace grabbed his final Pokemon. "Your up last come out Milotic!" Milotic appeared twirling with elegance and it looked tough too. Judging from the expression in its eyes as it stared confidently down at Sceptile. Even though Sceptile had a Swords Dance that had powered up his attack, still that Milotic could be a real threat.

"Sceptile return for now, let Manectric take over." Sceptile nodded as he was recalled. "Your up next Manectric, come on out!" Manectric appeared growling fiercely as electricity danced across his whole body, showing how determined he was to claim victory. "I shouldn't be surprised your using an Electric Type." Wallace murmured as he saw the intense expression that Manectric showed. At a glance Wallace could tell that Manectric and every one of my Pokemon were exceptionally well trained and could handle themselves against any opponent. Still Wallace was a gym leader and he wasn't about to just throw in the towel simply because an opponent was stronger than he was.

"Milotic use Hydro Pump!" Milotic demonstrated more than just beauty as he unleashed a powerful Hydro Pump! "Manectric counter that with Thunderbolt!" Manectric's Thunderbolt and Milotic's Hydro Pump collided centerfield and surprisingly, Thunderbolt didn't straight away overpower Hydro Pump. That showed me that Milotic was clearly very powerful. Perhaps it was just as strong as Steven's ace Metagross. After some time, Manectric roared as he increased the power of Thunderbolt which smashed through Hydro Pump before landing a powerful super effective hit against Milotic. However, Wallace seemed rather unfazed and indeed so did Milotic. "I knew that you would use an Electric attack and thankfully you used a strong one too. Now we'll show you why I'm the strongest Gym Leader in all of Hoenn. Milotic use Mirror Coat!"

At that Milotic glowed before releasing a massive attack right back at Manectric. Mirror Coat was a powerful move which dealt back double the damage the user had taken. I knew that might just defeat Manectric in a single move. "Dodge that Manectric!" Manectric just barely managed to sidestep the attack. As a result the Mirror Coat blasted straight in the wall and caused massive damage. "I hope you know that any attack you use we will use against you!" Wallace said as his Milotic seemed unfazed by our powerful moves. "Milotic use Twister!" Milotic dived down integrating the water into its Twister attack creating an even more powerful Twister as a result. "Manectric use Thunderbolt again!" Manectric countered the Twister with Thunderbolt but only with enough power to block Twister and not hit Milotic. I didn't want to risk that Mirror Coat which would easily defeat Manectric if given the chance.

'I can't risk using Thunderbolt unless we gain enough power to defeat Milotic before it can execute another Mirror Coat. Thankfully I know Manectric has just the move which should give him enough power to overwhelm even Milotic.' "Alright Manectric use Electric Terrain!" Manectric roared as he created the Electric Terrain which would power up all Electric moves which might give us enough of an edge to overpower Milotic. "I see, use Hydro Pump again Milotic!" Milotic launched a massive Hydro Pump that looked even more powerful than the last one used. "Manectric use your full power Thunderbolt!" Manectric roared as he launched Thunderbolt and the attack was greatly powered up by the Electric Terrain as well.

Hydro Pump put up a decent fight, but as quick as lightning, Thunderbolt smashed through Hydro Pump before scoring a direct hit against Milotic. My hope was that the Thunderbolt was strong enough to defeat Milotic and as such Mirror Coat couldn't be used. Manectric remained on guard as the smoke began clearing and when it eventually cleared Milotic was slumped down in the lake unconscious. "Milotic is unable to battle, Manectric is the winner and that means Leo from Viridian City is the winner of this gym battle." At that Wallace returned his Milotic smiling happily. "Your preformed brilliantly, even against an Electric Type you showed such determination that had me in awe. Take a nice long rest now Milotic."

Manectric rushed back to me dancing over the pontoons, before eventually crashing into me, knocking me to the ground as he happily nuzzled me. Thankfully the Electric Terrain had disappeared otherwise his little nuzzle may have become a massive attack. "You did really well Manectric!" Eventually he let me stand up and we both walked over to Wallace. "Congratulations Leo, you showed such strength and grace in that battle, that it took my breath away. This is your reward, the final badge of the Hoenn Region, the Rain Badge." I happily accepted the gym badge placing it in my badge case where I now had the completed set of gym badges from Hoenn.

"I hope to see you continue to grow even more stronger and maybe grow into a trainer strong enough to challenge Steven himself." I appreciated the praise but knew that the possibility of me ever battling Steven was highly unlikely unless I chose to someday choose to compete in the World Coronation Series. Speaking of which Ash, the Ash I had met back in Vermilion City, a research aid to Professor Cerise with Goh. That Ash had managed to defeat Steven Stone and Cynthia. Now he was facing off against the strongest champion of all, Leon the world monarch. Maybe someday I could reach that strength with my beloved Pokemon too.

At that I left the Sootopolis Gym and headed to the Pokemon Centre where Nurse Joy healed my Pokemon to full health. "Come out, Gllade, Sceptile and Manectric!" The three Pokemon appeared and I thanked them extensively for the match. "Thanks to you three we got the final badge from Hoenn. You all did such a marvellous job." The three cheered even the stern and focused Sceptile who showed his excitement with a hug that was joined by Gallade and Manectric too. Eventually I returned them and began looking at my Hoenn Pokedex. At that moment the only Pokemon I was missing from Hoenn were the family of Bagon and Beldum respectively. Not too mention at some point I would try and capture the legendary Pokemon from Hoenn but knew I wasn't strong enough to accomplish that yet. Though hopefully that day would happen.

The next step for me was to finish completing the Pokedex of Hoenn and as such I needed some assistance from Rotom. "Rotom do you know where I can find Bagon and a Beldum?" Rotom began looking up information on its database which was a wealth of knowledge. "I have acquired the following information, Bagon can be found deep inside the caves of Meteor Falls. Meanwhile Beldum is a exceptionally rare Pokemon, though some trainers have been rumoured to encounter Beldum rarely in Meteor Falls as well." I thanked Rotom before making preparations to immediately began exploring the entirety of Meteor Falls as previously I couldn't access the entierty without a Water Pokemon that could Surf at that moment.

"Come out Flygon!" Flygon appeared grinning excitedly, seems he already knew what was happening. "Flygon can you fly me to Meteor Falls please?" Flygon nodded before gesturing for me to climb aboard and once I did he shot into the sky heading right to Meteor Falls. Eventually he landed outside Meteor Falls and I thanked him returning him to his Pokeball before entering. I remembered the last time I had been here, I had not only captured, Solrock and Lunatone but I had rescued Professor Cozmo from Team Rocket and that felt like such a very long time ago. Still I headed towards the nearby lake, that would then bring me to a looming waterfall. "Come out Milotic!" Milotic appeared surprised to be called inside a cave of all places.

"Milotic can you swim me up that waterfall please?" Milotic nodded, grabbing a hold of me securely before he effortlessly climbed the waterfall with no difficulties whatsoever. I thanked him and then returned him back to his Pokeball continuing deeper inside the cave. That was when I was challenged by a Dragon Tamer who sent out a Flygon and I sent out my Glalie having him use Ice Beam defeating Flygon. I explored deeper and deeper through the caves, following stretches of lakes until I came across a group of trainers, that seemed to be leaving in droves. "Hey kid, if your here to catch a Bagon I suggest you leave. The one that lives here is insanely strong. It defeated all of us without even trying. Don't waste your time." At that they all left holding their defeated Pokemon in their arms.

"A single Bagon managed to defeat all those trainers Pokemon, that sounds like a great new partner for me to catch. Still I will heed their advice and remain cautious when battling this Bagon." At that I entered the cave and noticed the remains of what looked like a serious battle. Burn marks littered the area, where it looked like powerful moves had smashed into the ground. My presence hadn't gone undetected as the Bagon appeared, it glared at me ferociously as it stared me down. Bagon looks much stronger than I had expected, but I'm sure I'll win. "Come out Froslass!" Froslass appeared floating delicately as she stared down Bagon.

"Use Ice Beam!" Froslass launched the Ice Beam at the Bagon who managed to dodge with impressive speed for something so small and unevolved. But, then again, it was a Dragon Type and they are renowned for being exceptionally strong. Bagon dashed forward using Zen Headbutt, which looked powerful but against me it was the wrong choice. "Ice Beam again!" Froslass agreed unleashing a massive Ice Beam which overpowered Bagon sending him smashing into the cave wall. The battle ended sooner than I expected but I assumed that Bagon had been exhausted after defeating those previous trainers and as such wasn't at full strength. "Pokeball go!" I threw a Pokeball at the weakened Bagon before watching as the ball shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Bagon has been registered to your Pokedex. Bagon the Rock Head Pokemon a Dragon Type. Dreaming of flying one day, it practices by leaping of cliffs everyday."

I knew that most Bagon desired to fly and it made sense, their final evolved form was Salamence after all and they were exceptional Pokemon that's for sure. I returned Froslass before releasing Bagon, I healed him up and he seemed to slowly warm up to me. "Bagon have you ever seen a Beldum here in Meteor Falls. I heard that they might be found deep inside here, but haven't come across one yet." I showed Bagon my Rotom Phone who displayed an image of Beldum. Beldum quickly jumped up and down nodding his head at the image. "You've seen a Beldum here before?" Bagon again nodded, "could you show me where please?" Bagon walked off before turning around gesturing for me to follow him.

At that Bagon disappeared round some hidden caves that I hadn't actually seen before. Turns out that Bagon had smashed some nearby rocks which had covered the cave entrance which had kept it hidden from people and Pokemon. "I had no idea that a cave was here, deep in Meteor Falls.." I said shocked as I looked around while Bagon appeared rather smug as he watched his new trainer, trying to gauge his personality. Bagon obviously knew that his new trainer was strong, that Froslass easily defeated him. But was his master kind and knowledgeable and respectful towards Pokemon. Bagon would have to judge that for himself. Eventually Bagon found what his new trainer had been searching for a Beldum floating across the cave.

Beldum were quite the powerful Pokemon in their own right and as I planned to release Blaziken and have him battle Beldum for me. Bagon jumped in front gesturing that he wanted to battle Beldum instead. I accepted, deciding this was a good way to know if we were compatible together. "Lets see how good of a team we make in our first battle together then Bagon!" At that Bagon nodded roaring ferociously as Beldum turned around to face the determined Dragon Type. "Bagon use Dragon Claw!" Dragon Claw may not have been very effective but it was a powerful move as it slashed Beldum knocking it down before it knew what was happening. Beldum retaliated using Tackle, but Bagon stood and took the attack. Bagon did this to show his new trainer that he was strong enough to handle any Pokemon that challenged him.

It soon became apparent that Beldum only knew one move and that was Tackle. This was confirmed when I researched Beldum on my Rotom Phone, Rotom confirming my suspicion. "In that case use Crunch" Bagon unleashed Crunch which was super effective and knocked Beldum to the ground. "Pokeball go!" I watched as the ball shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Beldum has been registered to your Pokedex. Beldum the Iron Ball Pokemon a Steel and Psychic Type. They converse with one another using magnetic pulses. In a swarm they move in perfect unison." I happily high fived Bagon who had made his decision from being commanded by his trainer. Leo was worthy of being his master as he showed strength, kindness and respect, something Bagon valued in his trainer.

I healed up Beldum and introduced myself, before being now absolutely certain that Beldum knew only Tackle which would make it a challenge to train up and evolve it. However, I quite enjoyed a fun challenge and it made the evolution itself even more rewarding for myself and Beldum too. In Bagon's case it wouldn't take much time to evolve, he was already extremely powerful for being not fully evolved. I headed through the rest of Meteor Falls and came across a Battel Girl who sent out a Pokemon I'd never seen before, a Mienshao all the way from the Unova Region. I sent out my Gardevoir having him use Psychic defeating Mienshao. Next a Dragon Tamer sent out a Altaria and I sent out my Solrock having him use Rock Slide defeating Altaria.

Ascending further I was challenged by a Old Couple who sent out a Medicham and a Hariyama and I sent out my Altaria and Swellow having them use double Aerial Ace defeating both Fighting Types. After that I had defeated all the trainers deep inside Meteor Falls and decided now I could train directly with Bagon and Beldum. They had been getting stronger by watching my other Pokemon battling and I knew they were probably close to evolving, the only problem was how difficult it would be to raise Beldum. Knowing that I trained Beldum first and it tackled to its hearts delight defeating wild Golbat, it had tough battles against Solrock and Lunatone who resisted Tackle but Beldum showed me that it was determined to succeed and make me proud.

After defeating several more Golbat, Beldum suddenly began glowing signalling that he was beginning to evolve. When the glow faded a Metang floated in front of me. "Metang has been registered to your Pokedex. Metang the Iron Claw Pokemon a Steel and Psychic Type. It is formed by two Beldum joining together. Its steel body wont be scratched if it collides with a jet." When Rotom read that entry out I was confused. When I was training Beldum I hadn't seen any other Beldum around so how had Beldum evolved if it joined with a second Beldum in order to become a Metang. Metang seemed bewildered as to why I was confused, in its case it evolved through levelling up and getting stronger for its master. I sighed in confusion deciding that one day i would have to speak with Professor Oak or perhaps Professor Birch who was the resident Hoenn expert on how Beldum truly evolve since mine evolved on its own.

Training up Bagon was much easier in comparison as Bagon had some powerful moves. Against the wild Golbat, Bagon simply powered through them with Dragon Claw and against the wild Lunatone and Solrock, Bagon used Crunch which was super effective and as such defeated the two Pokemon with relative ease. As such with his continued victories, Bagon began glowing signalling he had started to evolve. The glow faded and Bagon was replaced with Shelgon a very different Pokemon in comparison to Bagon. "Shelgon has been registered to your Pokedex. Shelgon the Endurance Pokemon a Dragon Type. Within its rugged shell, its cells have begun changing. The shell peels of the instant the Pokemon evolves."

Shelgon looked rather disappointed as he observed his new body. I assumed he wanted to be a Salamence and show me that he was powerful to thank me for raising him in the first place. "It's alright Shelgon, don't give up on your dream to one day take flight. Keep persevering and I know you will become a Salamence. Lets continue to grow stronger together so you can reach that final form." Shelgon brightened up and promised himself he would become stronger and defeat every opponent that dared challenge his master. At that I really only needed to evolve Metang and Shelgon and I figured the best place I could go and do some training against some powerful opponents would be Victory Road a place named for being the final obstacle for trainers wanting to challenge the Elite Four the best trainers in all of their respective regions. Minus the champion who was even stronger than they were. At that I decided to continue training by challenging Victory Road.
