Chapter 30: Midnight & Calda.M umbreon x F flareon.

Julie opened her eyes to a dimly lit room she didn't recognize and in a bed she'd never slept in. She felt everything spin as she spiraled into a panic, her breaths quickening and heart pounding, but she calmed down after recalling last night's events.

She sat up, pushing loose hair strands aside and holding her head upon feeling a lingering headache. She glanced around and noticed toys on the carpet and a rocking ponyta in the corner by the closet. She then looked down at the purple blanket she sat on and gathered that this was a young girl's room.

Julie pulled out her phone and rubbed her eyes, looking at the time. "Five..." She looked out the window and saw dawn's light begin to break. Her heart was heavy. Midnight had to be worried to death, and it was amplified by her lie.

She looked at the door moments later as it opened and saw Devin step in, but he stopped short upon seeing her awake. "Oh, you're up. We've been checking on you all night."

Julie stared with tired eyes. She didn't know what to say.

"I put you in my sister's room because I thought it'd be weird to put you in mine or my parents'." He cleared his throat. "I'll, uh, go get Anna."

Julie watched the door close and lay back on the pillow, sighing. "Midnight..." She should have left the stupid party earlier, or better yet, she shouldn't have gone at all. It created multiple problems and solved none. Julie wouldn't have alcohol or a drug in her system, she wouldn't have a useless contact in her phone, and there would be no potential disruption to her and Midnight's relationship. She could have spent the night studying Lental and being productive with her lover beside her.

"Hey," Anna said while opening the door. She went and sat on the side of the bed. "I stayed over and barely slept last night. I'm glad you're okay."

She struggled not to shut her eyes again and sleep off the residual effects in her system, speaking softly. "I have classes today."

"Forget them, Julie. You should be glad you aren't missing right now after what you did."

Julie looked at her. "What?" her voice cracked.

"Why did you drink what Justin offered you?"

As much as Julie didn't want to talk about this or receive a lecture, it was an obvious trick that she fell for, looking back. She was more naive than she thought. "I-I don't know... It was a heat-of-the-moment thing. I guess I felt pressured."

"Right. I'm not blaming you in the slightest. Men like that are awful, but what happened last night is how a lot of women get raped or killed. You have to know better."

"I know." She felt tears coming again. Her eyes watered, which she wiped with her sleeve. Anna sounded irritated, almost, but Julie couldn't blame her.

"He was probably waiting for you to leave and hoped you were walking alone. I wouldn't have allowed it since I was going to take you back, but situations like that don't usually end well," Anna sighed. "I'm glad you gave me that look, though. I wasn't going to back down when I had a feeling you were in danger. Why'd he give it to you?"

"After I said I was taken, he did. He said he had eyes on me for a while."

Anna shook her head. "He was plotting it then..." He could have wanted to date Julie, and after she told him off, plan B was to take what he wanted. He sought her out because he must have known she was diffident and easy prey. There was no telling how long he'd been watching her. "Devin and I found out who he is last night while you were out. We texted around."

"Does he go to Castelia?" Julie would be paranoid daily if he did, so she hoped he was lying when he said so.

"Used to, years ago. He must have caught wind of the party and came hoping to take a younger teen home. The good news is that people are watching for him now, but we can't get the word out too much or get the police involved. He'd be fucked, but so would we... Anyway, do you feel well enough to walk back to the dorms?"

Julie nodded, wiping her nose and sniffling. So he was just a predator, meaning he could already have gone to multiple parties that young women attended. She wondered how many he'd harmed, and the thought that she could have been one was horrifying. Julie also hated that he'd get away with this, but at least she was safe.

"Come on."

They reached the campus in twenty minutes and were standing by Julie's dorm on a sunny campus that slowly awakened. They'd stopped at a market off campus on the way so Julie could refill on snacks and water, so she was holding two bags.

"I want you to rest today, alright? Please don't worry about your classes. You can get the notes later," Anna said.

"I will." Julie wanted nothing more than to confine herself to her room anyway and couldn't possibly pay attention to a lecture. She wouldn't go out for anything but education for a long while.

"Alright, I'll see you. I'll check up on you later."

She watched Anna walk off. Julie turned and entered the dorm, going to the elevator. What would she even say to Midnight? He deserved some kind of explanation after not seeing her all night. She told him a couple of hours. How could she have done that to him?

Julie took the elevator up and went to her door, taking out her key to unlock it. She opened it to him sitting at the edge of the bed, and felt a knot form in her throat.

He was relieved that she was alive, but where had she been all night? Midnight had barely touched his bowl or water and felt helpless all the hours she hadn't returned. It was one of the longest and most worrisome nights he'd experienced.

Julie shut the door, set the bags down, and went to him, kneeling on the floor before him and looking up. She waited a beat before speaking. "I was dishonest with you..." She raised her hand and held his leg.

His eyes scanned her fatigued face. Midnight knew that much, but he didn't understand why. There was no reason for her to, right? Her business was his. He always thought they were close.

"I'm an awful partner for it. I'm sorry." Being truthful and having good communication was pivotal in a healthy relationship, and Julie didn't think she'd ever screw up this badly. "I went to a party-- a small house one. I met some nice people and hung around, nothing more, but some guy... I guess he'd been watching me, kind of pushed himself onto me, and offered a drink that I stupidly tasted."

She looked down and held back tears, but she was choking up. "A-And he drugged it to take advantage of me, so I had to stay i-in one of the rooms overnight after everyone left. I had people protecting me." Julie shifted her glossy eyes back up to him. "I regret going, and I really regret lying about it. I didn't know what you'd think of me running off to a party... e-especially while I'm with you, but it's no excuse. I promise I'll be honest at all times from now on."

If anything, Midnight was just glad his mate was in one piece. He felt distraught just thinking about someone taking and using her body. She wouldn't have been back for days, or maybe she wouldn't have returned at all, and what would his life become? He'd feel nothing around anyone else and always think about what Julie had to go through or if she were still alive.

Midnight trusted her to go wherever she wanted, but she had to be more careful. "Umbreon," he grinned a little. At least he knew what was likely bothering her the night before.

He pulled his leg away and moved back, walking to the pillow and looking at her. Midnight didn't want her on the floor. She didn't belong there, and it was clear that she needed rest and comfort, which he could provide.

Julie smiled subtly. "Hold on." She stood and undressed by the closet, put on new panties and a bra, and shoved her outfit in a bag. She washed her hands and face in the restroom and finally went and joined Midnight, getting under the covers and letting him slip under with her. "Are you sleepy this time?"

"Mbre," he yawned and curled up beside her. Of course he was. The sun was coming out. He shut his eyes against her warmth. A night without it and her presence was an empty one. Midnight was happy to feel both again.

She turned onto her side and put the blanket over her head to go under with him, hugging and pulling him to her chest. "Thank you for forgiving me, Midnight. I really want you forever..." Maybe Julie was content staying inside. The party was kind of fun overall, but she just didn't have it in her to be out and about.

Even now, the sweet silence was music to her ears. It was just her and Midnight. She was proud of herself for giving it a try, but Julie was who she was, and she was ready to accept it. Friendships were almost pointless to her. She saw more value in pursuing her career. Alyssa, the library, food court, and speech class were more than enough for her. She couldn't care about what others thought or how they may judge her. She needed to be happy on her terms, or else she wouldn't be.

Midnight rested his chin on her arm as she tucked it under him, nuzzling it. He would forgive her a million times over. They'd been through a lot and had gotten close to losing each other once already. The moment they were sharing now almost didn't exist, so he treasured every single one.

She traced her fingers over his side and shut her eyes. "I love you, love," she murmured.

Midnight twitched his ear, hearing a muffled voice speaking, which he made out to be Julie's upon waking up more. She wasn't beside him.

He lifted his head and flattened his ears against the blanket, crawling out from under it and sitting up on the bed while soft sunlight hit his fur through the window. She wasn't in sight, but he saw that the restroom door was shut.

"Alyssa, I'm only calling because I said I would. We can talk tomorrow, maybe." Julie didn't want to make it seem like she was blowing her off. She was leaning against the wall after using the restroom and had put on a light blue tee.

"Why, is something wrong? What happened last night?" Alyssa heard no happiness in her tone. She sounded defeated, which struck immediate concern in her.

Julie winced and put her face in her palm. "Alyssa, can you respect what I'm saying, please?"

"I will, but I want to make sure you're okay. I can tell when you aren't."

She sighed. "I'll be ready to discuss it tomorrow, but I'm fine. I'm probably gonna go back to bed."

"Hm... Just call whenever I guess. I'll be available."

Julie hung up and set her phone on the counter. She'd already talked about it twice today and couldn't do it again. It was exhausting. Julie would never forget Justin. She'd never forget his name, even more so because she'd never been through anything of the like.

Julie muted her phone and left it, exiting to Midnight stretching on the bed. She didn't want to hear it vibrate when Anna texted to check on her, not if Angie texted to ask why she wasn't in class today. She just wanted to be left alone.

He lowered his rear and watched her get back into bed and lie beside him, although she stayed on the blanket this time.

"I was on the phone. I didn't want to wake you," Julie yawned. "How was sleep? It's noon." Hers went well. She no longer had a headache or felt out of it.

Midnight leaned down and nudged her cheek with his nose. He felt his best after getting good sleep during the day. He eyed her pretty grin after pulling away and felt her rub his chest and stomach.

She looked better already, and it warmed him to see it.

Julie scritched his chest before letting her hand fall by his paws, where she looked briefly between his legs at his testes. Julie had felt light arousal after she woke up earlier, oddly enough, and she didn't know where it came from, nor did she particularly feel like feeling it right now.

Between last night, her and Midnight healing as a couple this morning, and the fact that they hadn't gotten intimate in a while, it may be that sex would make her feel even better. It could be good for them both. They didn't need it to bond, but it only brought them closer as a couple.

"Midnight..." She looked up at him.

He returned her eyes, but all she did was stare at him without following up, then let her eyes fall. "Umb?" In space again? Why'd she have to leave him on a cliffhanger?

"...Nevermind." Julie wanted it, but there was an issue-- she didn't want to do it in here. They'd been since their first day in Unova, and while it was always an amazing time, it got dull for her. Curse the kink she'd created.

Julie remembered how empty the entire campus was last night besides some night guards that she spotted, which filled her mind with explicit thoughts. They could probably get away with sex in lots of places. Behind bushes, buildings, etcetera, but Julie didn't want to risk her college degree to that extent. As wild of a ride that would be, it'd be idiotic.

No, her mind jumped to that day she and Midnight were in the communal laundry room, sitting in complete silence while machinery buzzed around them. It was just as vacant a space late at night as the rest of the campus and stayed unlocked at the expense of having several cameras posted.

The thought excited her, but they had to be alert and quick. Julie wearing accessible clothing would help, which she'd failed to do during their first time.

There were a couple of dead zones the cameras didn't appear to cover- which would still be a gamble if they caught even a glimpse of their act on the feed, but the urge was more than intense to relive the rush it brought her. It was what she'd gotten the most excitement out of in life, believe it or not. There was no doubt that it was degenerate, but everyone had that side to them, right? Just- most people knew to keep it behind closed doors.

Meanwhile, Midnight had watched her lose herself in real-time. This had to be a new record. He sometimes wished he could read her thoughts since she tended not to tell him.

She wanted to do it tonight. Her naughty thoughts had finally gotten the best of her and hit a peak she couldn't come down from. It would be impossible to settle for more rinse-and-repeat sex in this room. She wouldn't tell Midnight, but he'd oblige. Julie almost hated that she'd found an opportunity.

Enough of that, though. She sat up and looked at the bags she left by the front door. "Oh, you wanna see what I bought on the way home?"

"Bre." She finally came back and didn't tell him a single thing again. He followed her off the bed and sat as she crouched by them and started taking items out.

Julie set four bottles of clear, lightly tinted liquid on the carpet. "I'm not a sparkling water enjoyer, but I've been drinking too much soda at the court, so I'm gonna try getting into it again as a replacement." Julie remembered her past sugar addiction and didn't want to relapse.

She then took out several bags of baked chips and some fried ones. "And I got a healthier alternative to fried chips, but I also got fried ones in case I feel like cheating," she giggled quietly.

Midnight wasn't familiar with the human diet. Pokémon usually ate berries and from general nature, with some carnivorous species eating meat. He did like some of the snacks and food Julie shared with him, though.

"But enough about my stuff. I also bought things I thought you'd like." Julie sifted through the bag and started pulling items out. She held a carton of black and white berries in front of him that he sniffed. "They were selling these limited edition enigma berries."

Julie turned the carton in her hand and studied them. "They're spicy, apparently. The only reason I bought them is because it's advertised as having the energy of stars, which made me think of you, so here we are. I'll get more if we like them."

How sweet of her, unlike the berries. Midnight had never tried a spicy one, so he was excited to taste them with her. He hadn't had much variety during his days with the principal.

"Oh." She held up and showed him a larger carton of six decently sized white brownies that sparkled as she moved them. It was like they were lightly coated with glitter. "These are actually my favorite brand here, but I got a flavor you may like. It's vanilla with a hint of kasib and nuts... and too much sugar." Julie would have to hold back on devouring half the box in the middle of the night. Hopefully, Midnight liked them so she'd be eating less. The company didn't export to Johto, so Julie wanted to bring a box back for her mom and Alyssa in the future.

He was captured by their appearance alone. Whoever made them did a great job at making them look appetizing. "Umbreon umbre." He swayed his tail, showing his appreciation.

"Of course, love." Julie put everything back except for a sparkling water and would put it all up later. She stood and tossed the bottle across the room onto the bed, then went to her backpack by the bed and unzipped it. Since she had nothing to do but laze around until tonight, she'd go over and finish the regional history reading that the professor had assigned during the last class.

Julie hated missing her classes, not only because there was a decent chance she'd lose out on important information, but because she'd have to text Anna or Angie for the content that she missed or ask them in class, which she liked to avoid. Julie didn't even have anyone to ask in oceanography.

She got her textbook, notebook, and a pen, taking them to the bed and setting it all down as Midnight hopped up. She threw the blanket over the uncovered top half of the bed and got on it, pulling her books up and lying down. "I'm gonna try to finish reading about Lental." Julie would jot down any interesting facts she came across and add them to her short list from when she started the night before yesterday.

Midnight lay next to her and watched her flip through pages with her chin resting on her hand. He had always found it cool that she studied so many different regions and the pokémon inhabiting them. Julie told him about the material she was studying occasionally, but he rarely held onto any of it after a day. It was still cute, though.

Julie stopped on page 204, which focused on Belusylva island. She drew her finger along the text and skimmed, murmuring. "Founja jungle, Elsewhere forest... The jungle looks cool. Forest is ominous." Founja looked just as one would expect when they heard the word jungle. It was miles of grassland with a dirt trail running through it, surrounded by steep cliffs and tropical trees. There was a small waterfall north of the trail that led to a calm river, which the pokémon drank from. "I'd walk through with a group, maybe." Julie poked Midnight's side with the back of her pen and looked at him. "How about you?"

He studied the image of the vast jungle and nodded. "Umbre." It looked like a fun walk. Midnight wanted adventure in his life that didn't involve a city.

"Guess you'd be a part of that group then," she grinned briefly and focused back on the content. Julie could do without walking through the forest. It was encompassed in thick fog that only thinned in certain areas, but if it became her job to explore regions, she wouldn't have a choice.

She yawned again and rubbed her eyes. Julie was prepared to fall asleep while studying, but at least she'd make an effort to be productive. There was always tomorrow to save her anyway, which was a free day.
