#4 of Back for Revenge

I was awoken by my keeper, this creature who has saved me, when she lit the main room candle and opened the door to this room. I peered out of my blanket looking sideways while I still rested my head on the cot I was on. I saw her confront another creature just like her, but this one was a bit smaller, seemed to be a male. They looked at each other, he handed her an object and then he left, and she close the door. There were no words exchanged, no body language, nothing. It was at this point I was becoming convinced that perhaps there communication could be of ways I could not detect. Maybe telekinesis or something close to that.

I sat up not afraid to let her know I was awake, I figured she would know anyways. I looked curiously at her and what she was given; it looked like a little black cube big enough to fit in your hand. I itched idly at the cuff around my wrist still chained to the bed. It was annoying; this chain was like a constant irritation telling me I'm a prisoner. I didn't like being reminded of that because I was starting to admit to myself that I would like to have some sort of relationship with this creature. I somehow felt indebted to her for saving my life.

I returned my attention to the cube she held. She walked up to me holding it in one paw and held it upside as if to drop it in my hand if I were to put it below hers. With a pause, I put my hand open under hers and she dropped the cube in my hand. It wasn't very heavy to my surprise. It looked like a jet-black metal box but it was light as plastic, cold as metal though. I brought it up to look at it better when suddenly my palm began to sting underneath the cube. My instant reaction was to toss the cube away and I flipped it into the air and effortlessly my Keeper caught it. I looked down at my hand and there were four marks on my hand, like needle holes.

I looked up at her confused and slightly worried but I saw she had a smirk on her face from when I startled in reaction. Thinking about it myself it was somewhat funny and it help me calm my worries. I looked back down at my hand, it wasn't bleeding but I wondered what in that cube stabbed me like that, and was anything transferred into my body. There was nothing I could do about it however, refocusing my attention to my Keeper. She had walked over to her desk placing down the cube and then she dug something out from the chest nearby where she got this blanket. She pulled out a black staff with lightning yellow marks all over it. My eye's lit up like a child's would for X-mass morning. It was my staff.

She walked over to me and with both paws held it out for me. I respectably took my staff; I was dumbfounded that it was in one piece. I broke it when I was on that hill, but here it is, perfectly fine. It even had the duck tap near the top that was holding together a previously broken off piece that I notice was fixed as well. I smiled happily in a wondrous awe of my own staff here. My staff had always been the one item I had to hold onto in desperate times and it has proven repeatedly that it will never leave my side. I smiled up at her.

"Thank you" I told her excitedly. I pointed to my staff speaking its name aloud to her "Staff"

I hoped that would be three human words she can learn so far and if I was cooperative perhaps she could soon learn to speak it too. I placed my staff against the cot and the wall, which was a bit challenging because of my chains, but I decided to leave it nearby. I was rather annoyed at this cuff on my wrist again. It was cold metal, and I wouldn't know from experience but it is hard to sleep with a metal wristband and cold chains around you.

I let out a yawn, I felt like I didn't get a lot of sleep, maybe they didn't need a lot of sleep. I saw my Keeper leave the room closing the door behind her and I figured I should try to recover some rest while she was gone. I wondered if I was able to sleep with the light on in the room, as well as my hand recently being stung and my shoulder was still bandaged and hurting a little, but Surprisingly I had no trouble laying back down and falling asleep. I felt tired from lack of sleep but tired for another reason. It was a distinct kind of tired feeling I had once when I was put on an anti-depressant recently, the side effect was drowsiness. I shrugged at the thought of medicine in me and fell asleep quickly.

I had a strange dream after that. It wasn't a pleasant one either; I dreamt that I was intoxicated at a research facility I worked for. My head was hurting, and it felt like it was swelling, then I started to see images and hear reports. The world looked like the remains of a war zone, destroyed buildings, fires burning, no one left alive. I heard our company was successful in annihilating the race that occupied our world while we were left working in secret from them.

The dream was flashing as my head was hurting worst. I felt myself laying down, tossing and turning in place. I saw my Keeper walk over me looking down at me while the research facility spun. I eventually gained consciousness and left my dream. I realized that my dream was closely related to my condition, I was gripping my head it hurt so badly. It felt like my skull was shrinking. My Keeper was looking over me, I couldn't tell if she was concerned, or knew what was happening.

I began screaming the pain filling my head like an explosion, my Keeper looked back at the door as it was left open, and 3 other's like her came in, they were all slightly smaller then my Keeper and all appeared to be male but had the same emotionless look on there faces. One grabbed my legs and held me down on the cot, another held my wrists at my side, I was squirming violently, half from fear of what was going on but mostly for the pain that all my senses were focusing on.

Then I heard someone talking. I couldn't see who, it was a male voice. I couldn't understand it but then I heard a female voice argue with it. A most beautiful voice that was even enough to calm my fears slightly. There voices spoke words that changed and I started to understand them. I was looking at my Keeper and the other creature that was standing at the head of my cot looking at each other. Was it them talking?

"The subject is still rejecting certain portions of the serum, the liquids are building in its head." the Male said in a standard procedure tone.

"This is the same occurrence that happen with the other test subjects; I thought you said you had this problem taken care of." The female demanded answers.

"We don't have time for this, we have to either try to drain the fluids to save it or I suggest putting it out of its misery, it's your subject so it's your call." He patiently stated.

"You're damn right it's my call, Do whatever you can to save this one, if he dies, I'm holding you personally responsible for your failures this time." She was straight to the point and made herself heard clearly.

"Yes Mistress Ariana." He obeyed like a servant.

The male creature lifted my head up suddenly and I managed to see him pull out some sort of hand drill before I felt cold sharp metal pierce the back of my head right at the base were my neck starts. I was held down tightly and tested there strength while my entire body arched fighting against the object digging painfully into my head. They proved to be much stronger and kept me down while I screamed in agony.

My Keeper, Mistress Ariana, putting a paw on my chest gently as if telling me to relax, despite the pain I tried to obey her, I trusted her. The object dug so deep, I thought for sure it was through my skull and into my brain at this point when finally I felt the object suddenly pull out and a plastic tube replaced it. I instantly felt fluids running out from my head and even though it was coming out of a hole in the back of my skull it was giving me instant relief from my head pains.

"You're not getting 'attached' to this one are you?" The male asked suspiciously.

"Just do your job then keep your muzzle out of my business." She ordered

"Well if it recovers we can try a modified dose within a couple weeks when the subject heals." The male suggested.

"No, I'm not taking any more risks in putting this one in jeopardy, I don't trust your work anymore. I will learn his language instead of using these faulty drugs for him to learn ours." She looked down at me.

The words began to mix and slur as I began to lose consciousness. I couldn't move soon and the creatures let go of my limbs while the other was still holding my head up. What was happening to me? I passed out unable to answer my question.
