Hybrid Isolation Experiment #12 - Ursus Arctos

The first in a series of anthro transformation stories with an ongoing mythology. This one has mature and explicit content between consenting adults, but future stories might be less explicit. I'm thinking about doing alligator, raven, and orca next, with different eco-systems and scenarios. Stay tuned!

In the future, genetic engineering has made animal-human splicing possible. The injection is expensive, rare, and still under research, but there are many hybrids around the globe, part of a burgeoning transhumanist movement. The Hybrid Institute is running experiments to see if subjects can survive in harsh eco-systems using instinct and natural abilities alone, with no training, supplies, or human intervention. Pairs of male and female volunteers are screened based on physical fitness, mental stability, and enthusiasm for nature. For three months, they'll be deposited into isolated wilderness locations. There, they'll transform themselves into animal-human hybrids. The subjects are encouraged to embrace their animal instincts as much as their human faculties allow, and to treat the surrounding region as their personal territory. Afterward, they'll be retrieved, returned to human form, and re-integrated into civilization... if they desire it.

"Whew, damn," Logan huffed as he plopped down in the grass. Right behind him, Jenna took a huge swig out of her water jug and set down her backpack. The couple had been hiking for hours to reach the clearing; the closest spot that could take a helicopter was nearly ten miles away.

Jenna held her hand up to block the sun as she scanned the forest. As her breath turned to fog, she shivered and rubbed her arms instinctively. She knew it'd be cold, but up here close to the treeline, it was a totally different ballgame. There was no way a mere human could survive alone here with nothing but the shirt on their back.

The clearing stood in the middle of a pristine wilderness, surrounded by the tallest pines the two volunteers had ever seen. They were told that a creek ran nearby, one filled with trout, and supposedly there were lots of little caves and outcroppings in the nearby mountains, perfect for shelter.

"Yeah this is definitely the right spot." Jenna turned to her boyfriend, who was still catching his breath; she was surprised at how out of shape he'd gotten over the summer. It didn't matter that much though... the splicing process would fix that. "Do you need to rest for a minute or should we go ahead and get started? I mean I don't see a reason to wait. The sooner we get the transformation over with, the better."

"Oh you think that's when the fun can start?" he quipped. "Lets go for it. I've been dying to see how hot you are in a fur coat!"

Jenna smirked. "Yeah well, lets see if you can actually put on some muscle for once. We have a thousand square miles all to ourselves. Can't have you out of breath after a little hike." They both actually had an idea of what they would look like, but the process sometimes yielded minor but unexpected results that eluded calculation.

As she started to unpack the medical kit, a fleeting twinge of doubt flashed across Jenna's mind. There hadn't been a fatal experiment yet, but she still didn't know what to expect, even after weeks of preparation. The scientists at the institute had told all kinds of stories, like the incident with the wolf hybrids in Arkansas who decided not to come back. That was their choice of course, but they left families behind, and valuable data was lost.

The dolphin hybrids in the Great Barrier Reef experiment had to fend off multiple shark attacks and almost pulled the plug early, and an eagle girl in Montana broke her leg and a wing in a botched gliding attempt. It was partly for that reason that they chose Ursus Arctos--the common brown bear, or grizzly bear--as their species of choice. The animal's resilience would ensure they were still at the top of the food chain. Still... the thought of what they were about to do always sent her heart leaping to her throat with excitement. Logan was more blasé about it. He'd been a hybrid researcher for years, although he'd never gone through the process himself. He was in for a surprise, that's for sure.

With a hiss and a gust of steam, the sealed biohazard container popped open, revealing the two self-injectors filled with a liquid that looked like blood. Aside from their clothes, this was the last vestige of human civilization they had with them. Jenna's eyes widened; it was a huge dose, bigger than what she saw back at the lab. There was no turning back now. On the underside of the lid was a loud warning sticker. It was all stuff they already knew, but it was a good reminder. "Remain seated during the transformation." "You may experience some discomfort." "The process takes approximately 90 seconds." "Do not panic."

Logan and Jenna glanced at each other with a worried grin before starting to take off their jackets and shirts. They both unlaced and kicked off their boots, peeled off their woolen socks, and started to shimmy out off their jeans.

"Jesus, it's freezing," Logan stammered. He was visibly shivering as he sat in the grass wearing only his boxer briefs. Jenna tried to stay vigilant, but her toes were turning to ice; her sports top and briefs offered no protection against the frosty mountain air. She plucked the injectors from their casing and quickly handed one to Logan.

"We can't stay out here like this for long," she barked. "Lets go, on three!" They readied the injectors, placing the tips against their deltoids. "One... two... three!"

With a single trigger pull, the solution rushed into their bodies; Logan winced at the feel of the ice cold fluid flooding into his blood stream. Jenna crossed her arms and took a deep breath. And then, without much hesitation, the transformation hit both of them hard.

To Logan, the sensation felt like someone drizzling hot honey all over his body. His eyes were glued to his own flesh as his blonde human hairs blazed into dozens of patches of earthen brown fur, patches that meshed and melded as they spread across his skin. The fur nestled between his fingers and toes, poured over his neck and chest, crept over his buttocks, and even invaded his ass crack. By the time his new bear-like pelt had reached his face, the "uncomfortable" phase of the transformation had begun... and that was putting it lightly.

Logan briefly glanced over at Jenna, who was grasping desperately at her face, trying in vain to understand that her skull was elongating into a snout... until only a moment later, it happened to him too. He barely had time to wrap his mind around the sensation of a dentist pulling out all of his teeth with a pair of pliers. Logan was more concerned with the writhing mass of pythons snaking underneath his skin. His muscles were growing denser, ropier, herculean... any semblance of human frailty was being shoved aside for raw, animalistic physique. His shoulders broadened as his skeletal structure shifted to accommodate his ursine girth, and every muscle group exploded with rippling power. They were both becoming natural killing machines, creatures far beyond the limits of human strength.

Huge black claws erupted from their fingers and toes where nails used to be, and their palms blackened, thickening into bestial pads. As their flesh re-shaped and re-molded, they moaned and screamed with shock at the unpleasant sensation... although it wasn't painful, it was definitely at the limit of what a normal person could withstand without passing out. The transformation coursed through their bodies almost like magic, their DNA marrying itself to that of a different species entirely. They were becoming creatures new to science, a perfect melding of human and ursine, glorious and anthropomorphic, but also strange and terrifying. Soon, as the transformation neared its end, their moans turned to growls--deep, bear-like roars that awakened something primordial asleep in their brains. They were returning to a more primal state of life... but with their human sentience still intact, a life-altering experience, one which few were privilege to.

In less than a few minutes, it was over. The two former humans sat bewildered in the clearing, the gentle rustling of the pines being the only sound around them.

Logan ran his tongue over the sharp fangs that had replaced his human canines. His maw wasn't completely bear-like, but his new snout still crept into his field of vision. Although his eyesight hadn't changed much (and his eyes were still eerily human-like,) his wet black nose sucked in a hundred more scents than he'd ever been able to detect as a human being; it was almost overwhelming. He picked up pungent moss and lichen growing on trees, fresh soil, pine sap, even animal dung... the smells all rushed into his olfactory, and each one carried some kind of hidden meaning that only the most primal parts of his ursine half could comprehend. Suddenly, nothing about this wilderness was unfamiliar. It was like home to him. The realization made him chuckle involuntarily.

"Holy shit... so this is what it's like," he growled. His voice was nearly an octave lower, tinged with an course, animal-like gravel that took him aback. It was both monstrous and masculine. He held his taloned hand-paws in front of his face, turning them over, admiring the thick brown fur on his forearms and the tough but still sensitive black pads on his digits. Flexing his sinewy arms for a moment, he felt powerful. Confident. Like every shackle of his human life had suddenly melted away. Turning his attention to his feet, the bear hybrid wiggled his furry toes, splaying his claws outward; his feet would remain bare, the pads on his soles both protecting him and giving him an intimate connection with the earth.

Both hybrids thrust themselves to their feet. Jenna looked over herself bewildered, trying to process everything that had happened to her. As she ran her hands through her soft brown fur, she realized that her undergarments were strained almost to the point of tearing at the seams. She was suddenly overcome with a pang of annoyance, as if her human clothes were the last thing holding her back from being truly free. With a single motion, she used her sharp claws to tear off her sports top, releasing her fur-covered breasts to the mountain air; then, with just as much ceremony, she dug her thumbs into her panties and ripped them away, tossing them to the dirt.

Logan watched with sly fascination, and a feral urge started to bulge in his gut as his now half-bear girlfriend stripped naked right in front of him. There was no reason not to join her. With a toothy grin, he dug his thumbs into the waistband of his strained boxers and tore them off effortlessly, kicking the remains aside.

"Ohhhh... grrrr..." the bear-man growled and purred as the crisp air flooded over his body. Both hybrids stood completely nude, fully open to the wilderness around them. Logan and Jenna glanced at each other with a coy understanding... in this place, with not a soul to be found in over a thousand miles, they were beyond the confines of human inhibition.

Logan closed his eyes to let the wilderness around him envelope his keen new senses. Every moment in his new half-animal body was almost intoxicating. As the soft rustling of the pines and the quiet babbling of some distant stream filtered into his rounded, bestial ears, he was starting to understand why so many people were seeking this path. The hybrids were in tune with nature itself. After experiencing the world this way, how could he go back to his weak, mundane humanity?

For a minute or two, he slowly rubbed the fur on his chest, letting the soft hairs run through his fingers; afterward, he massaged his shoulders, caressing the thick mane of fur around his neck. Every inch of his half-bear body was coated in a soft fuzzy hide. It was both luxurious and alien to him, but he was anxious to embrace it.

Logan expected that having a fur pelt would be like wearing a heavy wool blanket, but it wasn't like that at all. He was completely unhindered, in fact he still felt naked; but his fur kept the warmth of his body bottled in, turning the biting cold mountain air into a gentle spring breeze against his skin. It was an incredible sensation. He raked his clawed fingers through the thick pelt on his belly, then down to his crotch to explore his changed manhood. Carefully, he caressed his fur-protected package, still partly human, although sheathed like an animal; his stomach fluttered at the thought of roaming the forest like this, totally unfettered. It'd probably take awhile for their modesty to fade away. Instinctively, the beast reached around to scratch his fluffy brown rump, and he arched his back in a huge stretch. "Ahhhh... oh man... I don't know if I've ever felt this unwound," he chuckled under his breath. The bear-man pushed his clawed toes into the grass and dirt, relishing the cool soil under his padded soles.

After a moment of peace, he opened his eyes and padded over to Jenna. She leaned against a pine tree, still carefully exploring her body after ripping off the rest of her clothes.

It was obvious that they were both a good six inches taller after the transformation. Logan wasn't exactly sure how the technology allowed them to gain so much mass--and he didn't care. As he stared at Jenna's unclothed half-bear form, a flash of heat rushed into his loins, and his heart started pounding. A murmur of bestial instinct in the back of his brain turned into a roar... he was drawn to her with animal-like lust. She was still recognizably humanoid, with perfect feminine contours, although she was blessed with an incredibly honed physique, almost Olympian. Her breasts were just as athletic and sexy as they were before, and even covered with fur, her nipples--darker in color now--weren't completely hidden. Chocolate fur concealed her genitals, but it didn't matter... with his ursine senses, smell was even stronger than sight. Her natural perfume burned through his olfactory, lighting his hunger for her on fire. Her musk was an earthly, mammalian stench; both sweet and salty, tangy and luscious. The bear-man had a sudden and wild urge to just bury his tongue into her, to taste every part of her... but he composed himself, at least for the moment.

Jenna stopped prodding herself and looked up at him. Their brown eyes locked together... she could smell his lust just as he could smell hers, and a fresh primal instinct begged her to just let everything go and submit to him.

Logan slammed a clawed hand against the pine bark above her head and pulled himself closer to her. The blow was so strong that the whole tree shuddered. The hybrid let out a rumbling growl as he stared deeply into her eyes, and they both smiled, flashing white fangs at each other.

"I guess we've gone back to nature now," he purred. "Something tells me we're not gonna get bored out here."

The bear-girl caught his intention. She crooned with her new voice, deeper and tinged with gravel, just like his had become. "You're right, hun... we've got a lot to explore. This whole forest is ours to do whatever we want to in. It's incredible. I've never felt so... unchained."

He woofed and snarled back at her, even more stirred up than before. "Yeah... we DO have a lot to explore." With that, he thrust himself against her, hugging her with both shaggy arms. She was ready for it. Jenna locked her claws into his rump and plastered her snout over his in a savage kiss. Their bear-like snouts turned it into a slobbering, messy affair; his tongue scraped across her fangs, and he was drunk on her meaty flavor. They huffed and groaned, pulling each other tighter... the hot, lush stroke of fur-on-fur felt so delicious, it made his hands and feet start to sweat.

Logan broke away from her snout and buried his face against her chest, basting her bosom with his tongue, pushing aside her fur to lap at her soft skin. At this, she let out a thundering ursine bellow, so beastly it startled him; but not enough to make him stop. The raging pheromones pumping out of them were beyond anything from the human world, and it drove them even more wild.

The bear-girl suddenly tore away from his maw. Logan dropped her at once; he knew what she wanted next, and he couldn't wait any longer. His rock-hard, pulsing manhood, fully released from its furry sheath, was almost more human than beast; but she couldn't believe the sheer size of him. Turning away, the she-bear arched her back and splayed out on all fours like a feral beast, digging her toes into the dirt and fisting chunks of grass with her talons. with fur parted, she was on full display for him. "What are you waiting for? Rut me, animal!" she growled.

Without warning, the bear-man grappled her pelt with his paws, and then drove his hybrid member inside her. She couldn't help but let out a carnal, inhuman roar that echoed across the clearing. Logan groaned with pleasure as her juices basted his loins, dripping down his balls to the earth below. What a monster she had become! She huffed and growled like an animal as he thrust his massive body against hers again and again. Ursine instinct flooded over both of them, pushing aside all human prudence. She clawed at the earth with each thrust; he grunted and bucked, his ropy sinew tightening as he rode her harder. In the icy air, their heaving breath made a cloud of steam that drifted nearly into the trees. This wasn't mere love-making... they mated like a pair of wild creatures, savage and unrestrained.

With one final gasp followed by a brutish ursine roar, bear-Logan rocketed his seed into his hybrid girlfriend. Totally out of energy, he flopped over into the grass, lying contentedly on his back. Jenna could barely move... she collapsed on top of her half-bear lover, letting his warmth comfort her, throwing her arm over his torso in a heartfelt embrace. The bear-man closed his eyes, letting her scent wash over him. They lay motionless, just listening to each other's steady, thunderous heartbeats. All around them, the pine trees rustled in the wind almost like ocean waves, and in the center of the clearing, the sun cut through the mountain chill, bathing them with warmth. It was pure serenity, for however long it lasted.

"Is this what all the other hybrids go through?" she whispered absentmindedly. "If that's the case, why would any of them come back? It's like paradise out here."

Logan turned to her. "It hasn't even been twenty-four hours. We've got three months ahead of us. We'll see what happens, but if we can do THAT everyday... I'll stay here forever!"

She giggled, and twirled a tuft of his chest fur with her finger, before slowly creeping down to his shaft, stroking his sheath gently. He gritted his teeth as a knot formed in his gut... he could go again if he had to.

"How about three times a day? Who's gonna stop us? We're like animals now. Nothing to hold us back. True bears only rut during the summer, but we can mate anytime we want," she purred.

Bear-Logan smiled at the thought of it. "Before we go at it, I think we need to figure out how to get some food. My stomach is already rumbling."

He rolled over in the grass and sat up, brushing leaves and twigs out of his fur, and then stood to face the forest. The bear-man helped his lover to her feet with a gentle paw, and after a moment, he started towards the trees, and towards a new life.

"The stream is this way. I bet I can catch the first one before you!" he growled.

The bear-girl jogged after him, her clawed feet crunching through branches and pine cones like they were nothing. They truly did have the best of both worlds... she just hoped it could last.
