#25 of Midnight

A female teen with only a few months left of high school falls into an intimate relationship with an umbreon on the school's grounds. She has to juggle this and high school itself, all while finding herself as a person. Playing it safe is key.

This story was the first I've ever written. I've edited it a lot since the initial release but kept its original structure.

Julie was up near afternoon the next morning while Midnight was asleep. It was a gloomy, cloudy day, with no sunlight in sight. She sifted through her closet to find an outfit for tonight while in a tee and pajama shorts. She lifted folded clothes one by one and scanned them.

The last thing Julie wanted was to stand out while there. She didn't know what kind of people were attending, but just in case, she'd leave that to the potential party girls and dress modestly with a touch of style, which she found in the skinny white jeans and flashy pink and white jacket she'd bought while touring the city with Midnight. "Cute enough." Julie closed the door and tossed the outfit on the sheets because the bed wasn't made, then sat on the edge.

"You're really going to a party..." She was still anxious merely thinking about all the ways it could go, but she could be overthinking as usual. Alyssa always gets on her for that. Julie also didn't want to be that person standing off to the side timidly for the time she was there, but how was she supposed to fit in? She didn't how it worked.

Julie looked over at Midnight, who was curled up on his stomach and asleep. "I won't do a thing to jeopardize us. Promise." She'd meet boys and girls alike tonight, and she wouldn't avoid interacting with people, but her body and love were Midnight's and Midnight's only. Julie would never forgive herself if she cheated on him.

He'd never do such a horrible thing to her. It would be easier to hide from him, but just imagining how hurt he'd be was enough, and the worst part was that she knew Midnight would forgive her.

Julie heard her phone vibrating under the pillow and moved up on the bed, reaching over him to grab it and looking at the screen. He shifted but didn't wake up. "Oh, Alyssa."

Julie answered and held it to her ear. "Hey," she said quietly not to wake Midnight.

"You must hate me."

"Huh?"

She sighed. "No updates? Isn't the party tonight?"

"Uh." Julie forgot about that. "Look, I'm sorry, Ali. I just couldn't decide."

"Well, have you?"

"Yeah..."

"...Are you going to tell me what you've decided?"

Julie glanced back at Midnight to ensure he was still asleep. She almost wanted to lie and not have to deal with this. She almost felt embarrassed to say she was going but wouldn't feel right lying to Alyssa. It's not like she'd judge her, anyway. No secret or confession would be as intimate as Julie confiding in her about her and Midnight during that walk home. "Okay, so I'm going, but I won't stay long. I'm just going to check it out."

Alyssa chuckled. "Go for it. It's kinda cute. Shy girl's first party. How are you getting there?"

Julie rolled her eyes. "Oh, shut up, and I'm walking with Anna, the girl who invited me. She said the place isn't far."

"But it won't be cute if you get too drunk to walk or something. Can you trust this Anna?"

"Ugh, you sound like my mom. Yeah, she's fine, and you know I'll be responsible. I'm not even gonna drink."

"Does mother know about the party?"

"No," Julie grinned. "We haven't talked since a few days back."

"And that's why you have Alyssa." She hoped for Julie to always come to her with things she wasn't comfortable telling her mom.

"I appreciate it. I'll tell you how it went tomorrow morning. Love you."

"Back at you. Oh, and are you taking Midnight?"

Julie looked back at him curled up on his stomach. "No, just me. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that."

"Alright, and you better actually call tomorrow."

She smiled. "I will. I swear." Julie hung up and moved up on the bed. She lay back, stretching her arms and resting them above her head while closing her eyes. She still felt sleepy. Julie didn't get much since she was anticipating tonight and had to touch up on some work, so she stayed up with Midnight until passing out. She'd try to take a nap before evening.

She dozed off around ten minutes later, but something felt off and woke her. Julie opened her eyes and flinched upon seeing who was sitting over her. "M-Midnight, jeez." She took a deep breath to slow her rapid heart rate. "Do you enjoy almost giving me heart attacks?"

He yawned while staring down at her. He didn't mean to startle her, although this wouldn't be the first time he had. "Mbreon." Midnight was just quiet in general.

"Anyway, I'm going out with a friend tonight at around ten for an hour or two. Wanted to let you know. I'll go to the court sometime later so you can have a berry bowl while I'm gone."

"Umbreon?" She was going out that late with someone? This was unlike her, and he had no idea where she'd be. The campus closed at 10 p.m.

"I know," she grinned. "I usually stay boarded up in here all the time. I wanna see what it's like not to for once."

He understood. Midnight hoped she had fun with whatever her plans were, then. He just hoped she'd be careful and was with good company.

Julie sat up and moved up to her pillow, lying on it and pulling the blanket over her. "I'll try to sleep again, for now. It's cloudy today, so we can both go when I wake up if the sun isn't out by then."

He followed and nudged the blanket up beside her, crawling under it and lying by her side. Midnight enjoyed the warmth combined with Julie's, creating a perfect sleeping environment.

She giggled and lifted the blanket, looking at him. "Are you sleepy too, love?"

"Bre." He used to sleep through half the day before he lived with Julie. Now he got by through short naps since Midnight enjoyed spending as much time with her as possible.

"Good nap, then." Julie let the blanket go and reached her arm under, draping it over his body. She shut her eyes and exhaled, holding him close.
