Into the Hinox's Maw

Scherzo whistled a tune to himself as he strutted down the street, a perfectly normal evening for him. Sure, the town was unfamiliar to him, that part at least, but he was heading home at a good pace, the sun setting behind the taller buildings, casting the town into a sort of artificial twilight already. If the racoon had not known better, from his phone tucked into the palm of his paw, he would have thought that it was much later than it actually was.

He was quite distinctive, the little racoon, despite his small size, to turn heads with bright, eye-catching, green fur and traditional black markings, including the racoon's mask. Scherzo had had more than enough comments on that mask, but he had learned to live with them. Dressed casually and comfortably in a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and big sneakers that gave his hind paws more than enough room inside, his muzzle relaxed into a soft smile.

"Hm, looks like a shortcut."

He smiled, checking his phone, the route down a side street that he was to follow. It looked more like an alleyway and a little on the dark side, but, well, it would be fine.

Wouldn't it?

He smelt it before he saw it, halfway down the alleyway with wheelie bins to his back and emergency exit stairways rising periodically: a dull, musty reek with a sour edge that clawed anxiously at his nostrils. The racoon gagged, wide-eyed - but what he had taken to be another bin was, in fact, a very real creature indeed.

A...Hinox?

But that didn't make sense! Sure, he might have been able to put a name to the huge, lumpy, one-eyed beast, but he wasn't supposed to. His sneakers squeaked, still in motion, taking everything in as the beast swung its thick, rounded head back and forth, grunting deeply, its body huge and shapeless. Despite that, there was a power behind its bare, brown-grey skin too, the red hue of its skin lost in the darkness of the alleyway.

But what the hell was a character out of a video game doing in an alleyway? The Hinox grunted, ears flapping on either side of its head, though it did not seem intelligent enough to hear him.

"What the..."

The racoon took a step back onto a fallen can that he had not realised was there, eyes wide, mouth agape - but it had already seen him. That in itself was trouble enough for as little a racoon as him, but Scherzo, not even then, did not truly understand the extent of the horror that was to befall him, his lungs tight, blood roaring in his ears.

Prey instincts to flee were not any good to the anthro in question, however, if the prey did not know when to listen to them...

"Guuuuuhhh!"

The Hinox lunged for him, quicker than Scherzo might have thought it to be - wasn't it supposed to be a dull, lumbering creature? Yet the beast's giant hand, with just two fingers and a thumb, closed around him, hefting him up in the air as if he weighed nothing at all, drawing him in closer to the Hinox's giant, single eye for inspection.

"Hey - you!" Scherzo squealed, wrenching his body back and forth, heaving and clawing at the massive hand, his heart pounding. "Let me go - you don't want anything with me! Gah!"

He dangled upside-down, flailing and struggling, instinct kicking in a moment too late as he fought back against the lumbering monster. The Hinox didn't seem to register the beating and battering of his tiny paws against him, however, the monster four times his size - and that was only when it came to height differences! His sneakers squeaked as he managed to land a solid kick into the monster's arm, but the Hinox only blinked curiously at him, as if wondering what he was doing.

But who could really look into the mind of a Hinox?

"Let me go! I don't want anything to do with you! Agh!"

The Hinox slurped, a long, pink tongue spilling out of its mouth as it ran it up the length of the racoon's body, leaving him sticky and wet with clinging saliva. Scherzo coughed and hacked, twisting back and forth, but the Hinox was not done yet as it sniffed, taking great, big, puffing breaths as if it was trying to savour something. What, however, Scherzo did not know, not as the beast sniffed and slurped all over him and his clothes, dripping saliva over his sneakers, was that the monster already had what it wanted in its grasp.

It was not intelligent enough to know that it had caught a sapient being, not as it lapped over his legs, curious about the sneakers, seemingly. Scherzo shouted and flung himself haplessly about, but there was nothing such a little racoon could do, nothing more than an object with which the Hinox could amuse itself with. It chewed on his foot, sticking up over the clasp of its own hand, gumming it lightly before using its teeth.

"Ugh - what are you doing? Stop! Someone - help! Help meeeee!"

He wailed and squirmed, but there was nothing he could do, despite fighting tooth and claw, to beat off the Hinox, to get him to stop chewing and licking his sneakers, even trying to curl its tongue around the foot inside. What the hell was it doing? Yet the racoon could not get everything in order in time for him to squirm away, not as it gummed his foot harder and harder, big, thick, flat teeth pressing down on his foot more and more insistently.

"Erghhh..."

Scherzo shuddered, trying to pull away, though he was clasped too tightly. The Hinox seemed to revel in the taste of his sneakers, letting out a low rumbled, paying them more and more attention, chewing on him, though the pressure did not increase to a point that Scherzo could not handle - not yet. The laces of his sneakers hung loose as the Hinox chewed and gummed them, chomping down, more and more insistently.

Too insistently.

He didn't realise what was happening until it was too late, dripping in saliva and heaving from the reek of the beast, not until pain shot through his foot.

"Agh!"

Scherzo howled and wrenched his body about, but flailing only made it worse as the Hinox bit down on him, chewing as if thoughtfully on his left foot, sneaker and all. Pain lanced through the racoon, but he was in no fit state to fight back, not as he dangled, heaving and grunting, the Hinox turning him back up the right way.

All Scherzo could do was rake in all the breaths he could as he was chewed, the Hinox lifting him high, seemingly so that it could more easily get his foot back in its mouth, though Scherzo was too weak to even land a solid kick to the monster's face anymore. His vision greyed out at the edges, yet it would have been a blessing to him if he had passed out. And that was not something that was afforded all that often to prey items that the lumbering ox of the Hinox had caught.

"No... Unff... Please... Unnnggghhh..."

Scherzo groaned, rolling his head from side to side, but the Hinox chomped down on his right foot instead, chewing and grunting, the deep vibrations from its mouth travelling into Scherzo's body. But the racoon didn't hear any of that at all as it crushed his foot within its maw, chewing with gums and lips and teeth, his foot mangled. The crunch of bones breaking splintered through him, enough to make him faint. His shoe did not hold up, the material of the sneaker to soft and flexible, worn from all the time he had used them, but a tooth did pierce it, slicing straight into his foot beneath for extra crunching, crushing power.

He heaved, fighting down the urge to retch - but was spared a few moments, at least. His feet! What was he going to do if he couldn't walk or even run? The monster drew both of his feet into its mouth, his feet mangled and misshapen enough for the Hinox to slide off his sneakers, both at once. He cried out at the pain, but it was dulling even then, his mind securing the trauma away so that he did not have to live every second of it in the moment, not when he couldn't even think of escape anymore.

The Hinox chewed on his sneakers thoughtfully, squeaking where saliva slickened them, rubbing its tongue back and forth, though didn't quite seem to know what to do with them. It gummed them and chewed thoughtfully, using its tongue to work them from one side of its maw to the other and back again. All while Scherzo growled and thumped uselessly against the beast's side, head spinning with aching pain.

Then and only then, leaving Scherzo's crushed feet in his socks only, the Hinox was able to toss back its head (and a good portion of its body too, to complete the motion) to swallow his big shoes down. Scherzo howled, but he could barely get out the cry through grunting heaves of breath. But they were not sobs, no, merely a body clinging to whatever life it thought it had left.

Pain ached deeply, a bone-crushing throb that he tried to shove to the back of his mind, even if survival was no longer in the realm of possibility. Fighting back, however weakly, he shoved at the Hinox as it yanked at his clothes, not knowing how they came off, merely wrenching him all about so that his clothes were ripped and dragged off, from his hoodie to his T-shirt, tearing through.

"Unff... Please... No..."

But the Hinox ignored him, even as it stuffed his hoodie and T-shirt into its mouth, slopping gnawing on them as if they were another course of food. Scherzo shuddered at that thought, trying not to be sick, though the pain was worse and worse, the beast working on his jeans next. Those were much worse to come off, even if his arm had been yanked about too when his T-shirt had been dragged off over his arms and head, the pressure of the fabric sliding over his crushed, mangled feet, still stuffed into his long socks. They hadn't been anywhere near enough to protect him. Nothing would have been enough.

The monster examined him, turning the gulping, whimpering racoon over in his hands while he chewed on the gloppy, sticky mixture of Scherzo's clothes, a jean leg hanging out of its mouth. He sniffed the naked racoon all over, grunting at the underwear, though those were quick to be pulled off and stuffed into the Hinox's gob too. A long tongue lapped over the racoon's face, wetting him down, though that was the least of Scherzo's worries.

The Hinox, however, had some trouble chewing on the tough clothing, gumming it with big, chunky teeth that weren't designed for chewing clothing. The racoon squealed and panted, but pressing and prodding and jabbing into the Hinox's face was a laughable attempt to stop it from stuffing him, head-first, into his right nostril.

"Gnnnghhhhgghhhh..."

Scherzo grunted and twisted, fighting, pushing back from the inside - but he should have known there was nothing he could do. He wasn't going to stop fighting, no, not until the bitter end, the space in there cramped and fleshy, closing in on him from all sides. It was a surprisingly soft tunnel in there, however, the feel of the monster chewing on his clothes emanating through his entire body as if he had become a part of the Hinox in more ways than one.

Even then, Scherzo did not realise how true that notion was. But the racoon didn't, frankly, need to know. Not as he was stuffed further and further, arms pinned to his sides, into the Hinox's nostril, his hips stuck in there, grunting, groaning, the tightness squeezing him from all sides.

"Gggrrrggghhh..." The Hinox grunted, rumbling, nostril flaring and puckering. "Nnnnggghhh, nnnnggghhfff!"

He snorted, dragging the racoon in all the way with several short, sharp snorts of breath, stealing all that may have been present in Scherzo's lungs. He was still chewing and chomping sloppily on Scherzo's clothes, of course, but the racoon brokenly howled, his voice breaking.

"Nooo..."

It was hard to know that he didn't have the strength to fight back anymore, his broken, mangled feet left sticking out of the Hinox's nostril, but there was little else to be done. Scherzo would have hung his head if he had been able to, shuddering in place, until the Hinox gave one, huge inhale, sucking him in deeper and deeper until the racoon plopped all the way in, down the back of the monster's throat and into his mouth!

"Unnnggghhh..."

The Hinox lumbered and scratched itself, but Scherzo scrambled, the pain in his feet reawakening him to the predicament that he was in. But where was he to go? Did the Hinox even know he was in its mouth? The sticky, thick tongue shifted under him, but the monster didn't even stop chewing!

No room! There was no room in there for him, crammed and cramped into the tight confines, no breath in his lungs, eyes wide with horror. As the beast chewed and gummed the clothes around him, he caught flashes of the outside world through its lips and the big gaps in its teeth, though couldn't lunge out. The monster chewed too quickly for that, Scherzo heaving and squirming, trying to get a leg kicked out without slamming it into the Hinox's teeth and alerting it to his escape.

In reality, there were not all that many teeth left in the Hinox's mouth, which was probably why he had lasted as long as he had, though it churned the racoon's stomach sickeningly to think of how his feet had been crushed regardless. The big tooth at the front of the monster's mouth had merely been misleading.

It would have been easier for him if the Hinox had had more teeth. But food didn't get to decide just how they were devoured.

It was the end for him, even if the prey in Scherzo did not want to acknowledge it, not as his body crunched and broke, gummed forcibly in a maw that was intent on crushing, on making sure its food was broken down enough to gulp, one way or the other. The lack of teeth wasn't going to stop the Hinox as Scherzo cried out in a faint, feeble attempt at help that was never going to come.

Snap!

_ _

His arm broke, but he barely recognised the pain, not when a devious crunch shattered his femur next, the monster treating him as if he was just something particularly difficult to chew. Maybe that was all he was, all he had become, though the Hinox did not change the pace of its chewing of him at all, not even as his struggles weakened with the crunch and shatter of one broken bone after the other. It was as if he had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time and, for the Hinox, that was all it needed to know when it was merely eating the racoon out of a strange sense of dull curiosity.

It mattered to Scherzo, but would not for much longer. The tongue squirmed under him, shoving him into the path of the hard gums, crunching down on him as he was crushed, heaving and panting, though he didn't actually manage to get any air into his lungs. It was not needed anymore, not as the rattle of breaking bones crunched through him, shattering his psyche, the moments right before the end.

His maw opened at the wrong time and the Hinox chewed down across it, one of its teeth catching the hinge of his jaw and breaking it, though it hung there, loose and slack, useless to Scherzo. The racoon's eyelids fluttered, barely clinging to consciousness, even if the end was coming, the tongue working him around the Hinox's maw amongst the mess of his clothes, some ripped, some torn, as if he was just another object.

Finally, the Hinox caught his head between its hard gums, wetness clinging to him, but it did not make the racoon slippery enough to free him, a mangled mess of broken bones and chewed-up slop in a hide that had, once, been Scherzo. A big tooth pressed into the top of his head as he screamed with his jaw hanging slack, bearing down into the bottom gum, harder and harder. It was a steady pressure, the beast gnawing on him, grinding back and forth, pressing down and down and down until his skull gave out with an almighty crunch.

And then the racoon was no more, no longer aware of what was happening to what had been his body, chewed up and gummed, a broken bag of what had been a living, sapient being. The Hinox did not even realise what it had done, merely satisfying a vague sense of hunger and dim curiosity, but it would no longer make any difference.

Chewing with a gaping, lewdly open mouth, the Hinox pushed the mess of the racoon and his clothes around its mouth, the sloppy, wet sounds emanating from its maw sickening to anyone that could have heard it. Yet anyone nearby had long left, if they had even been in hearing distance of the little racoon to begin with. He had not been rescued and the Hinox scratched its belly dully, gums slapping and smacking as it chewed up the last of its meal.

With its meal all chewed up as well as its gummy mouth could do, it grumbled and threw its head back to help slide its meal down its thick throat, a huge gulp heralding Scherzo's final slide and demise. The mess of a body and the chewed, sloppy clothes eased their way down with difficulty, though they would still find their final resting place in the Hinox's stomach.

The beast scratched once more, already forgetting the racoon, and lumbered on its way.

Maybe there would be something else to interest it around the corner.
