Meet Kairi Kitefin

New shark girl just dropped.

Seriously, though. I've joked for years about how furries create a sharkgirl character as part of coming out as MtF trans, so I guess it's my turn to play into that trope.

Did you know that kitefin sharks are the largest species of bioluminescent shark? That female kitefins are typically 1.4m long? That they are solitary hunters? There's a lot of fun biology and zoology to explore with a creature like this.

Growing up, Kairi's parents wanted her to be a "normal" girl. Instead, she got into gaming at a young age, honing her skills in a variety of MOBAs and battle royale games. She particularly enjoyed thoughts of being a predator hunting down prey. At first, the prey were noobs who didn't know how to stop her, but over time even skilled competitors found her attacks to be unrelenting.

The gaming habit frustrated her parents, especially given her late-night sessions when they thought she should be studying. Those frustrations ceased quickly when she landed a lucrative contract with an esports team shortly after her seventeenth birthday, becoming the youngest female player ever to go pro. Some questioned whether it was reasonable for a high school senior to take up professional gaming, but she dutifully completed her studies alongside her esports adventures, mostly as the debate over her education wasn't interesting to her and she had better things to do with her life.

Her gaming career quickly took off after she graduated. She knew she needed to prove herself to that male-dominated world and she had the confidence to do it. She was amused when people made crude comments about how girls shouldn't play games; it just let her mock them for being beaten by a girl later. She thrived on the kind of controversy that allowed her to publicly prove people wrong and make the accusers look like fools. She even referred to herself as a shark_girl_ to make certain kinds of people mad, knowing that they'd play worse while they're raging about her sex.

By the time Kairi was 20, she had already won over a million dollars in professional events, had a sponsorship deal with Sea Fuel energy drinks and Razorfin gaming products. One of Razorfin's keyboards even had Kairi's shimmering blue-green glow as one of the presets. There were plenty of rumors going on about her, with some claiming her fame had more to do with her gender than her skills. However, every so often, one of her most vocal critics would either suddenly change their attitude, or simply disappear from the Internet for weeks at a time.

With gaming, though, careers tend to be short. She retired from the professional circuit at age 26, choosing to go out on her own terms after becoming the only three-time champion in her favorite game: Apex Hunters, a VR-exclusive battle royale game where the player characters have abilities mimicking real animals. Her ability to hide in the shadows by turning her glow off and then hide in the light by turning it on again proved to be decisive, even against competitors such as eagles.

Her retirement sparked more rumors. Was she retiring because of harassment or abuse by her manager or agent? Was she trying to avoid getting caught hacking, because there's no way a girl could be that good? Was there a medical reason she wasn't letting on? Was there some darker secret she was trying to avoid getting out?

Of all of those rumors, the last one came closest to reality.

The truth, at least according to her public social media pages, was that she wanted to put more time into other things beyond just being on the processional circuit. She wanted to put more effort into getting girls into gaming and pay it forward with her success. She wanted to spend more time doing live streams where she could interact with her audience in real time, not just after a match. She wanted some time available for non-gaming hobbies, such as riding her custom, glowing, electric motorcycle around.

The reality, though, is that she had a growing audience for her non-gaming content. The sort of thing where she didn't just dunk on someone in public and make them feel like a hapless fish, but she actually made someone feel like a mere prey item at the mercy of a predator. Some of her targets were willing prey that she chose to indulge because they made it fun for her. A few of her targets were those who she knew would be too afraid to ask, but who oh-so-clearly loved the thought of an apex predator having her way with them. For them, she would give them exactly what they wanted in all the beautiful and terrible detail she could provide. Even then, she'd respect their safe words and would restore them afterwards if that's what they wished.

Her favorite victims, though, were those who could be described as assholes who had it coming. The sort of bullies, griefers, and other jerks who needed to learn that they aren't at the top of the food chain. For those, her talents with computers took a darker turn. While she didn't cheat when gaming professionally -- it wouldn't have been as much fun to win that way -- she had no problem hacking into the VR hangouts of scumbags and playing with the admin console.

The way she'd torment her victims would depend on her mood and what they'd done to incur her wrath. Sometimes, her mere presence as a sharkgirl in a supposedly males-only space was enough to scare the hell out of a guild that had been harassing the broader community. More often, she'd find a more intimate way of messing with someone or their favorite VR space. She was particularly fond of instances when she could hack into someone's VR home, where she was alone with her target in their own room, and could start messing with things.

Nobody else would be able to get into the room; the security system was supposed to prevent that. But the same security system recognized her as the sysadmin, and thus her powers over that VR space were absolute. She'd play into the theatrics and pull up unnecessarily elaborate simulated touch panels, while her body and eyes glowed as she played with sliders, switches, and dials. She might make that person feel as small as they made others feel by reducing the size of their character in the VR space. Often she'd add that size to herself, making her a towering predator over the minnow in her shadow. For those who were sexist, she might emasculate them, shrinking their dick or muscles, and sometimes even copy-and-pasting their dick into her body and remarking that she deserves it more than they do.

And, of course, this was all about the power she had, sometimes even locking out her target's ability to log out. She made the choice very explicit to them, too: Either they do exactly what she wants, or she's going to keep fucking with their avatar and their space until there's nothing left worth fucking with. All she'd have to do is "accidentally" overwrite their original form, or to delete some important part of their existence, and it would be changed or gone forever. And if they try to sign out, they're probably just going to brick their hardware and get their account access revoked. She'd be sure they knew that it's better for them to appease and please her, because the alternative is just that they suffer more before she gets what she wants anyway.

Sometimes that information would leak out into the public. Occasionally there was some genuine controversy around it. But given the fervor of her fan base and her choice of prey that was consenting or deserving, she continued to get away with it. And she reveled in being the untouchable, apex predator that sharks had been for millions of years.
