An excerpt from the Lore Book; chapter on the Hitrosii, the elves of Chumar.

This artwork depicts Felryn and Marsilor, first seen in Tales of Morveria: Covetous (https://www.sofurry.com/view/1888388), and planned character in an upcoming mini-series.

The artwork was done by my buddy, Kryloon (https://kryloon.sofurry.com/), while the layout and text and the design of the characters is my handiwork.

Below is the excerpt from the Tales of Morveria lore book detailing all pertinent information about the Hitrosii.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(1. Introduction)

The first sentient race in all of Morveria and by far the most technologically advanced, the elves of Chumar are also the least populous race. It is estimated that there are approximately 1,000,000 in all of Morveria, as opposed to an estimated ?100,000,000 humans, ?400,000,000 of the various beast races and ?20,000,000 of the hybrid Polotan and Tretik. Hitrosii primarily inhabit the center of Chumar, in cities-states protected by the massive crystalline wall that blocks the western side of the region. Some Hitrosii, when required by the state, live away from their homeland in scout outposts, small military compounds and isolated research bases.

(2. A brief lesson in biology)

The Hitrosii are mammalian, with live births after a gestation period of roughly four seasons. Naturally, their lifespan is approximate to that of a healthy human. Their technology, however, can greatly prolong it, allowing Hitrosii to remain relatively young and healthy in appearance until well over 160-years-old; Hitrosii become "middle-aged" around 180-190, elderly at around 240+ and rarely live beyond 280-years-old.

They possess primate physiology but have certain traits common only to their race. Hitrosii bodies are naturally hairless; they have no arm, armpit, chest, back, leg or pubic hair and males cannot grow facial hair. Head hair is thin, fair and grows slowly. Their skin is sensitive to ultraviolet light and extreme temperatures, with varying resilience based upon their sex.

They possess four long but slender fangs, two on the upper jaw and two on the lower jaw. These fangs are considerable, but capable of being hidden behind their lips. Their irises are very large, taking up most of the visible eye, and eyes have slit pupils, like snakes or felines. Ears are very long, with two prongs and a swish or check mark shape formed between them. They are predominantly left-handed. Hitrosii have obvious and extreme sexual dimorphism.

Females...

Females are approximate in size and weight, and with comparable strength and agility to an average adult human female. Their bodies range from slim, average and curvy/voluptuous. Most Hitrosii females are quite busty and have very broad hips as they often give birth to multiple children per pregnancy, averaging litters of 2-4. These children would not be considered twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc., possessing varying features and sexes.

Despite a long and obvious anterior commissure, the labia majora conceals a vagina that is notably small by comparison to other races; the nature of their vaginal canal and pelvic muscular structure provides both greater tension and elasticity. Their skin has a natural satin sheen and is moderately sensitive to ultraviolet light as well as extreme temperatures, specifically those of temperate and arctic climates. Females endure warm weather better than males.

They come in a range of colors: bronze, brass, gold, rose gold and subtle variations thereof. Females are born with cherry blossom pink skin with little sheen; it becomes warmer and brighter over time. Eyes are always warm hues: pink, ruby, amber, citrine or orange topaz and amethyst. Hair is also a warm hue, with pink, red, yellow, gold, orange, light purple, and similar colors being seen.

Ears have soft cartilage and therefore droop under their own weight, giving a swept back appearance. They may also hang slightly away from the head, and move in a "floppy" manner.

Males...

Male are very large, ranging in height from 6-foot-8 (203 cm) to 7-foot-six (229 cm) and have lanky builds. Due to their metabolism, which is faster than females, they rarely become muscular or gain excess weight, even in advanced age. Sturdy bones and their sheer size give them a typical weight range of 220 pounds (99.8 kg) to 360 pounds (163.3 kg). Despite slim builds, their size grants them considerable strength; male Hitrosii are roughly twice as strong as a healthy human male, though not as strong as a Korutan of the horse or zebra-kin.

Genitalia is proportionally small when compared to humans or beast folk - a typical male can conceal the whole of his phallus with the width of their hand - and many human and beast folk males are equal to or greater than Hitrosii males in penile size. They do not develop foreskin. Large testicles provide high-volume, and dense pelvic muscles ensure a powerful ejaculation. Like males of other races, their genitalia are highly sensitive to damage.

Their skin has a natural satin sheen and is exceptionally sensitive to ultraviolet light as well as extreme temperatures, specifically those of arctic, arid and desert climates. Males endure cold weather better than females. They come in a range of colors: silver, pewter, slate grey and subtle variations thereof. Males are born with snow-white skin with little sheen; it becomes darker over time.

Eyes are always cool but dark hues: cobalt blue, forest green, ebony brown, dark silver and black. Hair is a cool hue, with white, silver, bright blue, and similar colors being seen. Ears have dense cartilage and therefore remain perpetually erect, pointing toward the crown of their head.

Overall...

The Hitrosii hold some attributes that make them physically superior to humanity, predominantly better eyesight, hearing, and enhanced night vision, though theirs is not on par with the beast folk. Strength is greater in the larger males, but they lack the endurance or dexterity of the beast folk or even humans. In some ways, they're physically inferior to other races; skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet light, especially the males. Sunburns are rarely mild, and peeling dermis leaves them vulnerable to infection. They also have difficulty with thermoregulation, requiring either an ideal climate or their high-tech temperature regulating bodysuits.

(3. Brief lesson in cognitive psychology/tech)

Being the most ancient and intelligent race in all of Morveria, their technology is the most advanced, with knowledge hoarded throughout many hundreds of thousands of years. They are many technological ages beyond the humans, possessing everything from indoor plumbing and refrigeration to videophones, television, hover-cars, holograms, and weapons that fire high-voltage electrical current and super-heated plasma.

To protect their sensitive skin and maintain comfort, they wear special bodysuits. These bodysuits utilize the mild electrical current found in most animals and, using many tens of thousands of tiny regulatory pads, maintain a comfortable body temperature, even under duress or in extreme environments. Bodysuits are made of an unknown material that's both durable and elastic, and seemingly impervious to rips and tears.

They've mastered the art of electricity and harness this power through radiation and charged crystals. Crystals of many types are the backbone of their technology, being artificially grown for use as batteries, CPUs and even homes. The densest of their crystal growth has been used to craft the great crystalline wall, which has proven impervious to all known types of weapons, even those belonging to the Hitrosii.

(4. Brief lesson in cognitive psychology/language)

The Hitrosii are the creators of language. They quickly learn to speak Modern Hitrosian, a language too complex for most humans to comprehend, let alone learn. For those needing to travel beyond the confines of their city-states, brief courses in human language and Ancient Hitrosian, the tongue spoken by most of the beast races, are all that's required to become fluent.

(5. Brief lesson in sociology)

Hitrosii civilization is relatively simple, having devolved after a climactic moment in their ancient history; a long-since forgotten cataclysm fueled the flames of tension and a civil war ensued, with the victors forcing all Hitrosii into the region of Chumar where they now live in a totalitarian-collectivist state. The state is ruled by a small board of elders, leadership known as "The Coalition." They possess total control over all, culturally and economically. Their society is simultaneous rigid and relaxed.

Economics...

They have no market economy, whatsoever. Hitrosii resources are strictly regulated, from harvesting to distribution. All Hitrosii are given what they need to live. Modest homes are made of crystal growth, impervious to damage by all known weapons, come with all amenities and utilize a handful of floorplans. Clothing is issued via sex, with limited variations. Supplies are allotted weekly, via vouchers; food, drink, medicines, replacement garments and more must be requested by the state.

This rigidity is required due to the nature of their environment, which is ideal for their comfort but not their survival. They cannot rise above a certain population without risking a crisis, and would require expansion of their territory to support further growth. They have, therefore, limited their own potential and inadvertently allowed the humans and beast races to expand beyond their control, despite their advanced technology.

Culture...

They have been homogenized by The Coalition. There is no freedom of speech or varying ideologies. Pride is forbidden; conformity is survival. Love and covetousness are also forbidden; they taint the virtue of logic and obedience. Suppression of emotions is considered the key to their success, and logic must rule over all actions. This does not mean that the Hitrosii do not naturally have emotions. They're merely forced through life-long training to suppress them.

Citizens are given "life-tasks," known colloquially to us as "jobs." These life-tasks are based on a combination of their intelligence, skill-level and the state's need. Disobedience is not tolerated and refusal to cooperate leads to punishment via "dispersal," which is literal liquidation; dissidents are executed and their bodies broken down for raw materials, being made into either a powder or fluid which can then be used to fertilize their limited gardens and farmland.

Curiously, The Coalition demands that all Hitrosii, male and female, be armed. Males are required to serve in the military, though most serve as a localized guard and only temporarily. These weapons include the Hitrosian gauntlet, which is capable of shooting bolts of lightning many yards and in a wide range of shapes and patterns, depending on the position of the fingers. It also includes super-heated plasma weapons of varying size and type.

The Coalition does not fear rebellion because the crystalline growth which comprises their buildings are capable of resisting their own weapons, absorbing the energy for use as internal power. Additionally, it is thought that Hitrosian homes summon lightning, and direct strikes help power their infrastructure. This seemingly imperviousness to uprisings allows The Coalition to rule with impunity.

However, for the Hitrosii living in this society, they have no worries or cares beyond their labor. Females and males have differing norms based on their obvious sexual dimorphism: Males typically receive more difficult, physically intensive and dangerous life-tasks, while females thrive in social work, science and academia. They enjoy state-crafted entertainment and may further relieve themselves of stress by having as many sexual partners as they desire, so long as they never become attached to one, or have unplanned pregnancies.

The Hitrosii have no families and do not raise their own children; all Hitrosii live alone. Females are placed on mandated birth control upon reaching puberty and allowed to engage in casual sex as little or as often as they see fit. There are no courting behaviors as these were banned for being illogical; sexual pairings are merely a question. Promiscuity is thought to be relatively common among the Hitrosii, though data is limited.

Children are taken from their mothers immediately after birth and are raised in state training facilities without parents. They have no names for the first dozen years of their lives, to ensure a limited self-identity, and wear a special, gender-neutral bodysuit of one variation and one color. They are identified by the number on their suit. This is done to instill conformity. Upon coming of age, an automated system issues a name based on their biological sex and their number becomes a quick identification system.

(6. Brief lesson in sexuality and mating)

Whenever the census recommends it, The Coalition may mandate procreation. During these times, females are instructed to cease the use of birth control and wait until it is flushed from their system. Once they are fertile, they are subsequently bred in orgies of which their participation is mandatory. Males are chosen via lottery, though this lottery only tells them which breeding hall to attend; their participation is not mandatory and labor can be assigned instead.

This practice is done to ensure that the lineage of children is unknown, to limit attachment by mothers. Females who do not conceive during the orgies are bred until they do; they are made to mate in monitored facilities for an additional week. If health issues are preventing impregnation and fertility treatments do not work, they are dispersed and removed from the census.

Reproduction outside of mandatory breeding orgies is strictly forbidden. Mothers are forbidden from seeing their children, and give birth with a partition that blocks their view from the waist-down. This ensures limited emotional attachment and allows for greater cooperation in future breeding. Children are born with a 40/60 ratio; 40% male to 60% female. This is thought to be partially responsible for the increased size of males; fewer males require them to be stronger and more capable, to protect the females.

(7. Brief lesson of religious concepts)

The Hitrosii have no religion. The Coalition has banned previous religious practices and destroyed all records and known artifacts to any ancient Hitrosii deities.

(8. Brief lesson in conflict)

Most Hitrosii resent the "lesser races" for surpassing them in both population and claimed territory. They perceive the beast races as little more than half-evolved animals, like the cats and dogs and horses that wander on four legs. They perceive humans with a level of disdain that goes beyond that of the beast races, who are merely pests; humanity is the bane of their existence.

However, as the Hitrosii have advanced greatly and live for several centuries due to their medical technology, they can afford to be calculating and methodical. Their conflicts are primarily resolved through statecraft; careful manipulations of opposing forces set them against each other.

This is usually achieved by finding a group or nation whom they can build up with limited gifts of technology and/or sen'kamen, the unbreakable gemstones they craft for decoration, and which the humans and beast folk revere as the greatest and most valuable of currencies.

Once their primary enemy has been defeated, they then dominate their "ally" through a host of nefarious methods. They are skilled in PsyOps, using psychological warfare to lower moral and break the enemies will to fight, namely through careful displays of technology and weaponry, as well as intimidation with heavily armed soldiers.

While they do possess potent weapons of war, including the Hitrosian gauntlet and super-heated plasma weapons, hovercraft, and piloted mechs, they do not have the resources to wage war on even a sixth of Morveria without running out of munitions and electrical power. They stand on the edge of collapse. For this reason, they rarely engage in armed conflict, despite all Hitrosii being armed.

(9. Additional information)

Clothing in Hitrosii society serves to only protect the body from the elements and has no value as a status symbol. Clothes come in four classifications...

The bodysuit...

The Hitrosii's bodysuits are both undergarments and primary clothing; they have no stigma about being seen in "underwear" because they don't have any. The bodysuit varies depending on age and sex, though they are always solid colors and come in only a handful of varieties. These colors once represented the designated life-task of the wearer, but that practice has since fallen out of favor as fashion has no value and therefore possess no risk of inspiring emotions.

Female bodysuits have two forms, a full-body and a partial-body, which is sleeveless and legless. Full-body is predominantly worn during winter. Both variations have a large cleavage window. This is less about revealing their femininity and more about temperature regulation; females endure heat better than males but require a port for heat to leave the skin, as the suit cannot regular quickly enough. Using the cleavage window for this port allows them to rapidly adapt to high-heat environments and also makes it easier to pull the bodysuit over their broader hips. Collars are thin and unassuming.

Male bodysuits have only one style; a full-bodied suit that covers up to their ankles and wrists. There is no cleavage window, as they have no need for any port for heat regulation; the bodysuit's thermoregulation is enough. However, they have a wide collar which can be pulled up to protect the neck and chin from chilling winds. When not in use, it's left flat against the collarbone, leaving pointed edges at the front, much like many human garments.

Children have a neutral bodysuit that comes in sizes for both males and females, though the style is the same. These bodysuits have no cleavage window, as female children regulate their body temperature similarly to their male peers. They are only full-bodied, use the thin, basic collar of adult female bodysuits and come in only one color, dark purple, the color of The Coalition.

Outerwear...

Citizens have outerwear; robes, cloaks and coats. They are made of a thin, elastic material that is either transparent or translucent and come in a variety of colors which serve to block different levels of ultraviolet light. Transparent outerwear is predominantly for additional warmth, indoors and out, but often serves as a robe when otherwise nude, in their own homes.

Translucent outerwear is for outdoors and the workplace, where sunlight may pass through and damage their skin. Many Hitrosii may simply own one coat and also wear it as a robe, e.g., Felryn's lab coat. Coats may or may not have detachable hoods.

Footwear...

There is only one style of footwear, a glossy black boot that reaches roughly mid-shin. These boots are made of a flexible, high-tech material that prevents feet from sweating, and therefore eliminates the need for socks. Boots have soles meant for both the slick floors of their crystalline homes and the loamy soil of Chumar. Boots have technology that allow them to rapidly self-dry.

Military jackets and trousers...

Soldiers, scouts and any Hitrosii who may be called upon to leave the safety of their city-states are issued military gear. These include sturdy jackets that can protect the bodysuit from harsher elements and debris while also helping to either preserve or dispense body heat, depending on the environment. The colored portions of the jacket can release heat when needed, maintaining a comfortable temperature even during the high-stress of combat. Elbow pads are built-in, and jackets are self-drying.

Equally sturdy trouser serve the same function as the jackets, with built-in knee pads and a self-drying feature. Helmets with full-face respirators built-in are also used for dusty environments or when there is risk of nuclear-biological-chemical contamination. These helmets have small rebreather tanks near the back of the neck that give them ten days of pure, recycled oxygen. A short "snout" contains a device that allows for easy communication between soldiers, and internal devices allow for long-distance communication. When submerged, the helmet and respirator automatically seals, allowing up to 12 hours of continuous underwater use.
