NOTE: In the world were this story takes place there are Furries(Anthros), and Humans(who are now are zombies). The two groups got along well for the most part, although there were some individuals on both sides who hated, and distrusted the other...

NOTE: The story you are about to read is real... It just hasn't happened yet. My future self sent it back in time, in the form of the audio/memory chips that have been secretly implanted in everyone at birth

"Come on... Come on... Please pick up... Damn it!" I shouted as I hear the automated voice on the answering machine telling me that there is no one home. That is the second time now that I haven't gotten an response. I feel an overwhelming sadness as I begin to think that she's already gone, lost forever to the outbreak. With a shaking hand I raise my 9mm to my head. Without Bethany, my life isn't worth living. "I'm sorry" I utter as I squeeze the trigger.

Click... I'm still here, only because it jammed. A little bit of sand probably got inside the mechanism when I was filling sandbags. I drop the gun to the floor and bury my face in my hands. I think about all that has gone wrong in the past two weeks since the viral attack that released the solanum virus into the population. All my years of planning, and training. Maybe she already left for the meeting point. I make up my mind to fight my way to the city square. If she's not there, I will go to her house. I don't want to think about what I'll do if I don't find her there. I pick up my nine mil, and quickly, but meticulously take it apart, then clean out the working parts. I reassemble the weapon, and slide it in it's holster on my hip. I throw my pack over my shoulder and leave the safety of my barricaded home.

I Creep through the shadows of downtown Epson, a large city in New York. I have run into several zombies and easily out maneuvered them. I could have taken them out, but the gunshots would just signal more to come, not to mention deplete my ammo supply. I can't see as well as I'd like because of all the smoke from burning buildings is making my eyes water, blurring my vision. I set my pack and secondary weapon, a sniper rifle, on the sidewalk at the entrance to an alley, maybe five feet across. I open my bag, pull my NV-IR goggles out, and put them over my eyes. Now I can see again, but since I have them on I might as well turn them on. I flip the switch over to the "heat vision" setting. I am briefly disoriented by the bright light caused by the many fires burning around me. I switch it to the inferred mode and regain my ability to see again. "Wouldn't have been able to see the fucking things anyway." I muttered to myself as I remembered the zombies don't have any body heat.

I hear something right behind me and wheel around just before a zombie is able to grab me. I do a dive to my left, and tuck my head into my chest. I land on my shoulder with my back curved, and my knees bent. I let momentum keep me in moving as I roll on my back until I feel my hip hit the pavement. I twist my back as I launch myself back to my feet. Everything went just like I trained... a perfect swat team combat dive roll. It feels great when your whole body moves as one, to complete so many little steps as one fluid motion. I will have to congratulate myself later, because right now I have a cold, dead corpse hell bent on killing me.

The zombie is human, so he was a direct casualty. His tattered and bloody clothes don't cover his rotting stench. His mouth and fingernails are covered in blood. I gasp in horror as I notice he has orange fur stuck to the dried blood around his mouth. I immediately am flooded by images of Bethany, my little tigress, being eaten alive by this monster. I reach to my waist to draw my pistol, but when I pull on it, it gets caught on something. I keep trying to release it as the stiff gets closer. I glance behind me and find out that I'm trapped.

The alley I dove into was blocked at the other end. There is a brick wall behind me, and each side is bordered by an apartment complex. I look back forward and it has shuffled to within ten feet. I only have one more second before he is on me and I realize that there is no way around him. The alley is two narrow. I pull on my weapon one more time to no avail.

I turn and run down the narrow alley about fifteen feet till I get to the brick wall that has me trapped. I only bought myself a few seconds, so I turned and ran back towards my undead attacker. One step away from him I jump to the side, and plant my left boot on the wall of the apartment building that is cornering me. I bend my knee and right before my momentum stops and I fall down, I kick off the wall and spring to the right, once again planting my foot into the wall. I land just six inches behind the ghoul, back to back with him.

I could have kept running and escaped him, but I wanted to end him. If that fur was Bethany's then he was going down. I crouched down and thrust my right leg straight out. Then I spun around to face him, and caught him with my leg sweep, knocking him to the ground. I still wasn't in a position to try and unsnare my primary weapon, so I take a quick step back and grab my sniper, still sitting on the sidewalk where I left it. I carry it back over to the zombie, who is still trying to stand up, and slam the butt straight down onto the back of it's skull.

I'm about to roll it over to examine the fur when I hear a girl screaming down the street. I dash out of the alley ,and look toward the sound of scream. I can't really make out where it is coming from, but the street is relatively clear, so I draw my sniper, and look through the scope. I can see a little vixen surrounded by the undead. She is too young to be Bethany, but she is in danger none the less.

I watch as she begins to climb up the fountain in the middle of the town square, with zombies reaching up at her ankles. I can see six of the wretched beasts closing in. I kneel down to steady my aim, and take aim at the one closest to her. I line my crosshairs up and squeeze the trigger. Instantly I can hear the silenced shot ring out beside me as the bullet tears through my targets head, before it drops to the ground. I line my next four shots up and they all hit there mark. There is one left and I take aim. I pull the trigger, and nothing happens. I realize that I need to reload, and bring the gun back down into my lap. I eject the empty clip, and jam in a new one. I'm about to bring the weapon up to fire again when I hear a gun go off ,and a bullet hit's the wall a foot away from where I am sitting. I look through the scope again, and see the last zombie crumpled on the ground, dead... or dead again.
