#8 of Deep in Kansas

After learning the fox's ability to be nothing new. Amanda leaves the town hall with more questions. It isn't until Angela, calls out for the Indagator's help do things change. As she begins to clear the zombies do they merge into something the Indagator had never encountered before.

Amanda keenly watched the black fox consume the corpse. She was curious as to what other abilities they had. But before her curiosity was sated, the scene faded away, leaving behind the eerie town hall. The figures which surrounded her earlier had disappeared.

She took a moment, standing in the town hall. Ghosts don't usually show events._Was the thought which crossed her mind. _Why did they do that? She searched through her mind for an answer. They might be trying to do something. Was an answer which popped into her head. If so, what would be the reason for it?_She paused in thought. _Dammit! More unanswered questions. Shaking her head in frustration, she left the town hall. Hopefully, I can get answers from tracking the zombie's heads.

As she made her way back to the barn, a shout called her attention.

"Amanda!"

She recognized the voice.

"Help me!"

_Fuck._The horse knew it was Angela's voice. Following the fox's voice, Amanda found her atop the roof of one of the village houses. She grasped onto a directional antenna. Below her, hordes of zombies had gathered around the house, scratching the walls and slowly piled up._Where did they come from?!_The thought crossed her mind as she was surprised to see many zombies.

Drawing her sword with a twirl, the Indagator began cutting down the hordes. They quickly shifted their attention onto her, and soon she was surrounded. Quickly, Amanda cut a path through the herd, spinning and twirling within. After she had gotten out, the horde had stopped and stared at her. After a minute, she found their flesh boil and gurgle as if something inside them was boiling, causing giant bubbles to be outlined by their flesh.

_What the-?_Before she could finish, she thought the zombies began seamlessly merging together. Slowly a giant ball of burbling flesh began to form. Arms, legs, heads, and any other extremities which had shown to be bumps on the ball were slowly consumed by it.

It was freed of blemishes, composed of various patches of discolored skin. _What the hell is that?!_She shouted in her head. The ball, not having shown the horse everything began to further shape itself. Soon, ahead, some legs and arms popped out. It appeared horrendous. As the limbs were obviously mismatched. One was made of more muscle than Amanda could ever think an arm was capable of, while the other displayed similar characteristics but grotesquely disproportionate. It was triple the length of the other.

While the legs, the horse observed, had so much muscle they ripped open the flesh, meant to contain them. If that wasn't enough, half of the body was still formed by the ball. Amanda had thought the creature was finished. She was proven wrong as teeth popped out of the creature's face, changing its head to one giant mouth. It was easily double Amanda's own height. After it had finished, the beast let out a blood-curdling roar.

"Amanda! What is that thing?!" The fox shouted in horror.

Her gaze hardened as the creature let loose its first attack. It swung at her with its club-like arms, made of nothing but muscle. Being too tall to simply crouch below it, the Indagator jumped over it, landing with a large thump, making deep hoof-prints. The creature, seemingly upset, ran at her, its arms flailing wildly. Rolling to the side, Amanda avoided its charge and watched it run down a nearby house, creating a large dirt cloud.

She waited for the cloud to dissipate, only for a sizeable fleshy rod to shoot out, smashing the ground next to her. Narrowly she avoided its attack. Surprised, Amanda found the creature launching several more, further destroying the environment around her. It created a massive dust cloud, forcing the Indagator to shut her eyes. Having no visual contact, Amanda found herself relying on her uncanny senses. As her horse-like ears pricked with attention. She heard the creature into the cloud. But, before it could run her over, she leaped up into the air twisting around.

For a moment, the Indagator opened her eyes, she found its grotesque head-mouth as it sped by underneath. Shutting her eyes again, she landed with another thud. The creature struggled to stop again as it smashed into another building. Opting not to stand in its destructive path, Amanda sheathed her blade and pulled out her pistol. Listening closely once again, she heard the creature charge.

Again, she launched herself into the air, although this time, as she spun around mid-air, she pulled the trigger, putting a shell right through the creature's head. Moments later, she heard the explosion of her round detonating inside as she landed. It let out a roar of pain; clearly, she had done some work on the creature.

Still inside the dust cloud, Amanda listened again, only for one of its fleshy tentacles to smash the ground next to her causing her to stumble. Soon, it was followed by more as they hit around her, slowly getting closer. Due to the numerous tentacles, the Indagator figured her best bet was to wait until they strike as one. There was a brief moment of silence. Soon, the fleshy creature lashed out with all its tentacles. The horse rolled back, deftly avoiding the attack.

She was fortunate the creature's volume was significantly higher than her own incessant gurgling. As she avoided yet another attack, returning one of her own. Yet as Amanda landed, she heard something new. It sounded like a thick slop of cornflower and water as it smacked the ground like jello. She felt the vibrations it created and got a closer bearing as to its location.

Strangely enough to her, it sounded and felt as if it was moving toward her, followed by the creature's own footfalls. Avoiding its next oncoming charge, she fired two more rounds into it. Soon, she could hear more fluid pour onto the ground. _Is that its blood?_She'd never heard of blood as thick and viscous as the creature she fought.

Avoiding its next attack, Amanda found herself stepping into it. It stuck to her like several pounds of jello. _Shit!_She shouted inside her head as she heard the creature charge again. Soon she felt a solid steel bar strike her squarely in the flank. With a sharp, painful exhale, she found herself on the ground, in the creature's own blood. She struggled to get up as the jello-like weights clung to her like cars strung to her body.

Hearing the creature's heavy footfalls again, she realized she had to think fast. Carefully, she listened to the creature's steps, then holding her pistol above her, she fired a round into what she hoped to be the creature's leg. Landing truly, she felt a swift breeze, followed by a thick goop upon her muzzle. At this point, she found herself thankful to have fought with her eyes closed.

Shortly afterward, she felt a fleshy body stumble and collapse as the ground shook from its impact. Breaking free of the goopy blood, she got to her hooves again. Amanda could still feel the dust around her as it settled on her nose and made her sneeze. She could picture her own face covered in dust and blood.

Still paying close attention, she carefully advanced forward. Every hoof-step she struggled with as the sticky blood slowed her down. Unexpectedly she could hear the creature get up and dash at her. Having only but a split second to react, she deftly switched to her blade and cut what felt to her a point of interest.

She'd managed to cut the creature's leg again, preventing her death, as it slammed into the ground. Amanda hadn't a clue if she or the beast was heavier. With a speedy recovery, the creature lashed out again, this time with its own arms and numerous fleshy tentacles.

Slowed down in its own blood, she knew her ability to avoid oncoming attacks was seriously inhibited. Therefore the horse desperately hoped her blade could cut through them. Luckily, this had proven to be the case. As she cut every oncoming fleshy tentacle, completely blind. They were followed up by the creature's club-like arms, which she managed to cut clean through. The creature's own painful roars informed her of the damage she was inflicting.

The creature, now more enraged, charged wildly at the Indagator. She sidestepped and severed the fleshy creature's leg again. She could hear and feel the beast struggle to maintain its balance. The Indagator took advantage of this as she sheathed her blade, unslung her massive eighty-eight-millimeter rifle, and expertly took aim.

Amanda listened carefully, then pulled the trigger. The rifle let out a massive, Earth-shaking roar as the shell was accelerated out of the barrel at extreme velocities. It quickly tore into the creature and exploded. It was killed on the spot.

Soon, pain in the horse's flank returned. _Fuck._She dropped the rifle and fell to her knees, feeling her gigantic nutsack press against the ground. The obscenely-endowed horse grasped her flank and grit her teeth.

Amanda swore she could feel her flank throb. She hadn't a clue what damage had been done. Only that, it could be potentially fatal. Quickly, the Indagator pulled out a potion and drank it. It went down like fire as she felt her body meld itself back together, and the throb slowly faded away. With an audible exhale, she grasped her rifle and slung it over her right shoulder. The horse knew she had to be careful how many Indagator potions she took, as they could kill her.

Feeling the dust settle on her muzzle, she opened her eyes. Doing so, she got a first look at the damage she had done. The round, Amanda could tell, hit the creature square in the chest as a giant hole replaced what would typically be its horribly misshapen torso.

"Amanda?! Are you all right?"

She heard the familiar voice of the fox. The horse peered over to find her clinging to the directional antenna like a cat attached to a cat tower.

"Yes." The Indagator quickly responded.

"What was that thing?!" The fox shouted from up high.

"I don't know." The Indagator recounted another horrific creature she had encountered on her search for chains. "It's the second time I fought something like this."

"Second time?!" The fox shouted in horror.

The horse nodded.

"What does that mean?!"

"Someone's making these." Amanda thought of the zombie factory. Despite having found a factory, she couldn't be sure there were others. But now, she was more inclined to believe there was. As it would explain the number of zombies on the farm. What it wouldn't explain, she remarked, was the unusual encounters. Perhaps they were experiments? The horse thought, If they were experiments, then why? And how was it executed? Evil sciences? She'd say evil magics but knew magic and science were intertwined. Therefore they meant the same thing.

There's also the question of the missing villagers. Amanda deduced, whatever they'd been subject to, wasn't willing. Based on the vision and the various notes she found. But that's all she knew. The Indagator hadn't a clue what role they played but knew finding the answer would help complete her mission.
