Summer Vacation can bring all sorts of surprises, not all of them good.

The day was already ending by the time I arrived home from the party, the beats still fresh on my mind. Me, Jake and Charlie... We partied all day and had lots of fun. And next week's going to be even more exciting for one of the hottest bands arounds The Shards of Eternity. Sadly, it was also to be an evening of sadness. For as soon as I arrived home, I was made aware that my beloved cousin Ted suddenly perished in the midst of a hunting trip. My heart sank like a stone, trying to process this sudden turn of the events. Sure, life is full of surprises but even that fact couldn't save me from the sheer anguish and sorrow of it all.

Today was a rainy day, meaning no trips to the beach today. To pass the time, I finally decided to read 'Rebecca Taherian and the Dominion of Dragons'. A fantasy/high school comedy novel, it's the first one in a series depicting the trials and tribulation of a typical Instagram-obsessed teenage girl who suddenly finds herself transported to an alternate fantasy world. One ruled by dragons at that. On the other hand, was it just my imagination or was that girl next door staring at me in a dreamy manner? I haven't really thought about settling down to start a family yet but then again, life can be full of surprises...

Couldn't sleep or write these last few days. A terrible fever came upon me. No puking or other nasty complications thankfully. But I'm still sad our trip to the zoo had to be cancelled. Last time I was disappointed to see no glimpses of the big cats and I was excited in case my luck would turn out differently. Ah well, at least I have my books and that's what I'm grateful about. After all, a good book can take you to worlds beyond your imagination; to make you temporarily forget the struggles of the real world.

A guest came into our house today. An old classmate of mom's by the looks of it. Although boring, it was nonetheless interesting to hear them talk about their past adventures together. With my favourite probably being the one where they were kayaking on a rapids together where my mom's boat suddenly capsized. Thankfully she didn't receive any serious injuries but I can only wonder if she swore off kayaking entirely after that event. Perhaps I should ask her someday...

NO! SURELY IT CAN'T BE TRUE? Why did Millie have to die? Why is fate so cruel? I SWEAR, I'M GONNA FIND THE DRIVER WHO'S RESPONSIBLE AND PUNCH HIM SO HARD HE'S GONNA FEEL IT 30 YEARS IN THE FUTURE! NO ONE SHALL KILL MY BELOVED POOCH WHILE I'M STILL ALIVE!

The newest installment of Dragon Chronicles came out today. I might pick it up later thought due to me still having plenty of unfinished chapters. Can't really think of anything else to say right. And there goes my mom again telling me to clean my room ASAP. Like, I get it. Cleanliness is next to godliness. But as far as I'm concerned, my room's already pretty much clean and organized. I sure am glad to her as my mom but sheesh...

Mom and Dad are going to embark on a trip to Europe today. For the duration, Dad's friend Otis is gonna be in charge. Ugh, I always hated his visits. It's not that he's repulsive or anything. But I always loathed his tendency to yell at a drop of the hat whenever things aren't going his way. Sis especially cries a lot whenever we have to tolerate his presence. Ah well, we can only hope these three weeks won't be that bad. There he comes, better hide this diary in a place he won't reach.

I sing, therefore I am. Or not. We have completely forgotten that the Fairfield Talent Show was today. And because of that, me and sis have completely forgotten to practice for our event. Not that I'm a good singer anyway. And Otis definitely would never let us attend some 'crummy competition'. Oh, what shall I do... Write a letter perhaps? Tell them that due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to attend? If the stars are just right, maybe they'll let us attend next year no strings attached. One can always hope, right?
