Dean was exceedingly average, average looking, average height, average build; he was even average at school and sports. That didn't look set to change anytime soon, even when he finally graduated and entered the working world. Dean was just plain and simple...average. Being a Caucasian shepherd even his coat was average, a plain off white with black around his muzzle.

Where he was anything but average however, was online when he played World of Warcraft with his online friends. Dean, or "The Headmaster" as his guildies affectionately called him, was an excellent guild leader, raid leader and a formidable tank. He'd led his raid group through multiple expansions, always managing to get at least the "Ahead of the curve" achievements for every raid and expansion since The Burning Crusade and even a couple "Cutting Edge" achievements as well.

Over the years, he had formed a tight knit group of people that extended beyond the game; they often would get together for barbecues at someone's house and watch whatever sports game was on, or just to celebrate birthdays and special moments in each other's lives. Dean's guild and his character in particular had garnered quite a reputation on their server for being the helpful people, almost always willing to help other players out with nearly anything, a true representation of the good old blue and gold as they liked to say.

This weekend was just like the rest, Dean and a couple of his guildies were helping some PUGs go through the Hellfire Citadel raid on Mythic difficulty. Players had come and gone, but most had stuck around for close on eight hours as they made their way closer to the final boss. Only Dean and his group were permitted to talk during the encounters so everyone knew what they were meant to be doing. The fact he had gotten a group of random players this far on a current raid on mythic just proved how great a leader he really was. Dean's true character shone through often when players messed up, instead of raging at them, he took them aside and patiently explained the tactics and made sure they understood what was required of them.

He was most impressed with the PUG healer, despite being a Discipline priest and the class not being in the best spot at that point in the expansion, he was pulling decent numbers. Dean had to ask a couple of times to make sure the player was being honest when he said he'd never set foot inside the raid instance, but sure enough the achievements would pop after every boss was killed, confirming their story. The priest passed on almost all but the most needed gear, saying he only wanted the mount which dropped from the final boss.

Considering the hard work the priest was putting in, Dean really hoped the mount would drop for him. His heart pounding in his chest as he watched the final bosses health gauge start to drop, so close to being dead with less than half the raid group left alive, the tension rose to almost unbearable levels. They were not going to make the timer; Gul'Dan spawned his last set of eyes and all but the priest and Dean were left alive shortly after for the last one percent.

"Stop healing and dps the shit out of him!" Dean almost shouted over his headset mic at the priest.

Their health bars were both dangerously low, when out of nowhere Dean saw the three white bolts of the priests penance blast past his character and hit the boss, landing the killing blow. They sat in silence for a moment before everyone started yelling out as their cutting edge achievements popped. Everyone but the priest however, he remained silent. Looking through the loot logs Dean could see why, they'd not gotten the mount.

"Hey, we can do this again next weekend, if you want?" he offered.

"Thanks, I'd love that," came the pink whisper text before a friend request started flashing in Dean's game window.

"Noxxis? That's an odd name for a priest," he whispered back.

"It's my brother's old account, he's too cool to play anymore so I took it over," the priest replied.

"Ah, right. Fair play, so see you next weekend?" he asked in confirmation.

"Sure! You have a sexy voice by the way," the priest said.

"Uh, thanks dude," Dean replied back, a little uneasily.

The next weekend came and went, still with no mount drop for the priest, but Dean and the new guy had been spending a lot of time together regardless. He was very chill and actually quite fun to play with Dean found out, thankfully a fast typist as he did not have a mic to talk back so their conversations did not feel too one sided. Soon Dean and Noxxis began doing Mythic dungeons together, along with a couple of Dean's other guildies; at least once they accepted the fact their healer was a disc priest. Of course they gave Noxxis shit every time they wiped, as is tradition to blame the healer when such an event happens. But Noxxis took it in his stride, even giving it back in good humor.

Nearly a month and a half later Noxxis finally got his mount, emoting hugs and kisses at Dean for almost a solid five minutes after. Of course the rest of his guild saw this happening and ripped the shit out of him for it, but Dean took it in his stride. Noxxis was pretty cool most of the time so he could stand being virtually hugged and kissed by another dude considering the circumstances.

Surprisingly Noxxis still stuck around after getting his mount, though he would not accept Dean's offer to join his guild for some reason, often joking that it was just because of the guild name. Dean didn't want to push the issue so let it be, he was just happy to have a skilled pocket healer around whenever one of their regulars couldn't make it.

*************************************************************************************

Dean sat in silence at the back of the strip club, watching his best friend and groom Dan getting a lap dance from a rather curvy snow leopardess. They were here celebrating his stag party; the lucky bastard had managed to convince Valkyrie, one of the Paladin healers in their guild to marry him. Of course everyone teased him to check for a penis because everyone knew girls didn't play computer games.

"Not joining in with your friends?" a soft voice asked suddenly beside him, Dean flinching and making an awkward startled squawk in response.

"Jeezus! Didn't think it was possible to sneak up on someone in here..." He laughed and rested a hand against his chest, feeling his heart thumping hard.

"Sorry, just saw you sitting here all alone, looked like you could use some company," the gorgeous arctic vixen with brilliant emerald eyes offered with a smile.

"Thanks, but this really isn't my kind of party, no offense," Dean replied with an apologetic smile.

"What is your kind of party?" the vixen asked with a friendly smile, sitting down beside him close enough so she wouldn't have to shout to be heard.

"This is going to sound majorly nerdy, especially as I am saying it while sitting in a strip club of all places, but uh...leading a group of twenty or so people through a raid in a computer game. World of Warcraft, ever heard of it?" He asked hopefully, dying inside a little at just how damned nerdy he felt saying this to a stunning half naked real living and breathing vixen.

"Oh sure, I love that game!" She turned to face him with an honest smile and look of excitement.

"You...what?" Dean was more than a little surprised, he would've been impressed if she only sort of knew what he was talking about, but he'd never expected someone like her to actually play the game. "You're shitting me, right? My friends put you up to this, didn't they?" He asked with more than a little skepticism.

"No, not at all! I'm a Disc priest, in fact I recently cleared Hellfire Citadel on Mythic!" The vixen replied with a smug grin and a surprisingly dorky but endearing flexing of her arm muscles that was far too cheesy to be anything but genuine.

"That's not an easy raid, you must be in a great guild," Dean relaxed a little, his friends were dicks sometimes but even they would not go to this extreme just to prank him.

"Oh, it's not my guild. Some great guys on my server have been helping me. Their guild leader even helped me get my Mythic Dungeon Challengers title and also the kickass mount from Gul'Dan," she recounted with a smile that slowly faded as she noticed the look on Dean's face. "What's wrong?"

"Noxxis?" Dean eventually asked, staring at the gorgeous vixen sitting before him.

"Yeah...but how did you know that?" She leaned back a little, suddenly unsure of the plain looking Caucasian shepherd.

"I'm Rageclaw...the druid tank, guild leader of "The Brazilly Inn"..." He offered with almost embarrassment.

"What, no way!" She squealed with delight and suddenly launched herself at the surprised dog. Dean found himself being hugged by Noxxis in real life, even more surprising was that Noxxis was not a guy after all.

"I thought you were a G.I.R.L!" he laughed as she sat back and stared at him.

"A what?" Noxxis asked in confusion.

"You know, a Guy In Real Life, like they always say 'Girls don't play video games' sort of shit?" Dean muttered almost sheepishly as Noxxis stared at him sternly before laughing.

"Oh, that does explain why you keep calling me dude then...but, oh...oh my god, I'm so sorry. All that hugging and kissing, you thought I was a guy!" the vixen squealed and burst into laughter at the thought.

"So do all my guildies, thanks for that by the way..." Dean laughed right along with her. "Being called 'The Headmaster' used to just be a fun nickname, now they use it like it's my gay pornstar name."

"Well I've been called the Headmaster as well before, weirdly for the same insinuated reasons," Noxxis teased with a grin, laughing out aloud again when Dean's cheeks looked like they were about to burst into flames. "Dude, relax...you're in a strip joint and besides, pretty sure we've joked about this stuff before."

"Well yeah, back when I thought you were just one of the guys!" the shepherd smiled and shook his head before looking at Noxxis again. "You're an amazing healer, I really wish you'd join my guild," Dean stated almost wistfully as he took a sip of his drink.

"Why, my good sir...are you trying to give me a Brazilly Inn?" Noxxis teased with a broad grin, once again laughing as Dean nearly choked on his drink as she used his cleverly crafted guild name against him.

After chatting for a couple hours while his friends were getting lap dances from the other strippers, Dean sat talking with Noxxis whose real name he found out was actually Jayde. They exchanged numbers and started chatting over text when they weren't playing the game together.

Rumors started circulating in the guild that Dean was playing for the opposite team when he was spotted alone in a Discord channel with Noxxis fairly regularly. It certainly didn't help when Noxxis eventually joined the guild as well and quickly became one of their main raid healers without having to go through the usual trials. No one personally had anything against Dean having a boyfriend, but of course they would give him a hard time about it when Noxxis was not online. Dean took it all in his stride, knowing the truth but at Jayde's request, he didn't bother correcting them yet.

*************************************************************************************

What started out as just an online friendship turned into a real world friendship, but as life usually goes, it turned into something more. At first Jayde kept her distance and a wary watch on Dean after he found out what she did for a living, she had encountered far too many "good guys" that tried to guilt her into doing inappropriate things as soon as they found out she was a real woman. The requests only got worse and more perverse once they knew what she did for a living.

Dean really was not like that, if anything, he just seemed to relax more knowing she was actually a woman and did not mind so much when she emoted hugs and kisses his way. Even when he invited her over for dinner and movie nights, something she never really got to do these days, he was always so upright and proper with her. Being in the line of work she was, friends were hard to come by, real friends she could actually trust and count on at any rate. Dean was quickly proving to be one of those people, but the more she thought about it, the more she had to admit to herself that she wanted to be more than just friends with him.

As she sat beside Dean on his couch watching one of the classic comedies he told her any good geek should know, hearing him chuckling and reciting the lines of the movie off by heart, it suddenly struck her that this is what she wanted. He didn't notice her watching him from her spot on his couch, smiling as he smiled and even mimicked the actors on screen. He was a big goofball, he just had a way about him that always seemed to calm her down and feel safe. Even when she spoke of her job, she never once felt like he was judging her or leering at her, he just listened to and supported her. A sudden upwelling of emotion brought tears to her eyes, making her nose run a little and causing an unexpected sniffle that drew Deans' worried gaze.

"Are you alright, what's wrong?" He asked with concern.

"Nothing, just me being silly, don't worry about it..." Jayde tried to play it cool, but in reality, she was fighting the growing urge to lean across and kiss Dean. Only if she did that, there would be no going back, there was a very real chance she could ruin the best friendship she had ever had.

"Are you sure, you know you can tell me anything, right?" he offered with that same damn smile that made the butterflies in her tummy dance up a storm.

"There's...something I really want, only I don't know if I can have it...or if I even deserve it," Jayde answered honestly, eyes downcast and speaking barely above a whisper by the last few words.

"Need some help getting it? You know I'm always here for you...and of course you deserve it, why wouldn't you?" Dean replied with a cheerful grin as he flexed his biceps comically for her while wiggling his eyebrows "The Rock" style that always made her laugh. "Just tell me what you want M'lady and it shall be yours!" he continued in a mock old timey chivalrous impersonation, clearly intending to make her laugh or at least smile, but this time she didn't.

"I can't..." Jayde answered, looking even more dejected than ever.

"Why not, what is it you want but feel you don't deserve?" Dean asked with growing concern, moving in closer to rest a reassuring hand at Jayde's shoulder.

"You..."

"U...what?" the shepherd asked in confusion.

"Not the letter, idiot. You...as in Dean, all of...this..." Jayde sighed and gestured first at him then around the room.

"I don't follow..." God he was an idiot, but his modesty just made her love him all the more.

"I want you...I want us...to be more..." Jayde started to say but suddenly found her thoughts scattered as she tried to say them out aloud. "I want to be more than friends..."

Dean sat staring at the vixen with a confused expression, frowning as he mulled over her words before speaking, "Okay...so, you mean like...as in dates and stuff?"

"Yes, Dean. I want to date the fuck out of you..." Jayde sighed and turned a little more in her seat to face him.

"I thought dating put the fuck into..." Dean's terrible joke was cut short by Jayde leaning over to kiss him, his eyes going wide as he stared at her once the kiss separated. "Wait, you're not joking about this?"

"No, why would I?" the vixen asked with her own round of confusion.

"Uh, because you look like...that, and I look like this..." Dean gestured across her form before doing the same for himself.

"So?"

"But you could do so much better than me!" He argued.

"There's more to it than looks..." she said barely over a whisper.

"Okay, like what? Also, why do you think you don't deserve me, if anything I don't deserve you..." he said, putting in his final argument.

"See, that right there. You don't treat me like crap, like a common whore, like...I'm worthless. Even knowing what you do about me and my work, you still treat me like a person, hell...more than that!" Jayde began to explain. "When I'm with you I feel...normal, I feel safe and happy, I feel almost complete. All that's missing is lo..." Jayde cut herself short, briefly looking at Dean before her gaze dropped to her hands wringing one another in her lap.

"Love," Dean finished for her with a smile, reaching out to gently cup and lift her chin as he brought her gaze up to meet his. "Your job is just your job, it's not who you are. I know who you are, Jayde. You're a good person whose life never turned out quite how they wanted or expected, you've simply done what it took to survive. You have never given up, no matter how hard things got, you just kept on going and you never let it sour you to the world; I admire you so damn much for that. If anyone deserves happiness, believe me when I say that I believe you do with every fiber of my being."

"Goddammit, you're going to make me ugly cry..." Jayde laughed through her tears, wiping at her eyes and sniffling. She did feel lighter, she had bared her soul to him and he hadn't rejected her. But he hadn't accepted her either, at least not how she needed to hear it. "Dean...can we, I mean...us, this whole thing...dating?"

"Slow your roll there Yoda, but if you're asking if I'd be up for dating a smoking hot vixen? Nah...I could do better..." He teased with a grin, not bothering to dodge when Jayde picked up a pillow and smacked him in the face with it as he knew he deserved it. "Yes, I believe I would like that very much," he laughed after.

"Idiot..." Jayde mumbled before leaning in closer to press her lips to his in a gentle lingering kiss.

"I'm your idiot now, no backsies!" Dean teased.

"Dear me, what ever shall I do with you?" the vixen sighed while smiling and cupping Dean's jaws in her hands, her thumbs brushing through the fur at his cheeks in little circles.

"I have a few ideas..." the shepherd grinned, rising from the couch and starting to head out from the living room, Jayde blushing as she got up to follow him.

"Wait, but isn't your room this way?" She asked when he turned right down the hallway instead of left.

"Yes, but we're not doing that yet. We have some guildies to punk first!" Dean cheered, raising his fist in the air as if he were reenacting the end scene from The Breakfast club.
