Secret Agent Bear

Have you ever stood inside a closed freezer, as the cold temperatures caress your fur, and you think to yourself. Boy this feels wonderful! You might be a polar bear like me. I've been trying to build up a tolerance for the heat because the other species I interact with can't stand frigid temperatures for very long. On the other paw, I can't stand warm temperatures for long either.

I'm one of a few species that are tolerated by society for having white fur. A long time ago an author wrote a book for cubs that stated that anyone born with rare white fur was dangerous and should be killed. The only exception was species that are naturally born with white fur seem to be exempt from that.

Polar bears, swans, and sheep naturally have white fur or feathers so they, like me, are not feared by society. However tigers, lions, wolves are considered rare white furs so they are the hated ones. The other polar bears and myself in our community never had to face the persecution the rare white fur species had to endure.

When I graduated from school I was approached by an organization called: Central Intelligent Zoo Agency, or C.I.Z.A. They are a global group of spies and operate to keep the peace between the numerous cities and cultures throughout the world. Normally every city has law enforcement officers to keep the peace and make sure certain laws are followed. Those officers can only act within the city they work for. C.I.Z.A. has a more global authority that cooperates with the Furries to handle certain situations from time to time.

Furries is the slang that FDI officers are called. The Fur Department of Investigations handles law enforcement on a global scale. Most cities have their own smaller police force but when things get rough the FDI is called in to settle matters. Every city is like its own country operating as part of the whole but occasionally one city will get into an argument and fight with another.

C.I.Z.A. spys on cities to learn a head of time about unrest between cities to try and put a stop to it. Their activities are not limited to only that, as I found out, because they have some shady business they conduct on the side.

A canine fur, that went by the name Chopper, first approached me a few days after I graduated from High School. Most species just referred to him as The Doberman even though his name was known. He liked using the moniker because it built up his reputation as species wondered about him. Not having his regular name used, most species wondered why he was only referred to by his species.

I was so impressed by it that I insisted that I be called 'Bear' because I wanted to be just like Chopper. Most dobermans were thought to be aggressively violent canains. I had learned, from the ones I've met, that they are extremely loyal and caring but they will protect what is theirs violently. As long as you didn't pose a threat, they were gentle with you.

Chopper and I used to laugh and joke around a lot. We'd hang out after work and talk about different things. The main thing about him is that he was a horney old dog always chasing women. He found the idea that there were other female species fascinating and he would especially go after women like that so he could mount them.

We were pretty good friends and my natural coloring allowed it but one thing he hated was rare white furs. He was ruthless and he trained me to be as ruthless as he is. Age mattered little because he used stuffies to train me to fill and if I found a rare white fur cub, it was seen as being the same as a stuffie.

Chopper had some strange idea that there were secret organizations of rare white fur species banding together in order to overthrow the government and conquer the world. To fight this he hired me and it was my job to pose as a rare white fur species to get in close with known suspects. I was to infiltrate their ranks and learn about their activities and secrets. Once I learned all I could I was to kill all rare white fur species.

My life changed the day of my birthday when I was given a special book. I met with Chopper to discuss it and my life changed dramatically.

"What wrong Bear? You look like you've seen a ghost." Chopper said.

"Something close to it, I guess." I replied.

"What's wrong?" he asked as he took me into his office. We have several hidden bases across the globe, this one was his favorite and it was a parking garage that hid our complex.

"You know my birthday was a couple of days ago,"

"Happy Birthday." He said smiling but I knew he was insincere. I've known him long enough to know when he's pulling my tail. He wasn't trying to be mean, more like being playful about it.

"Anyway," I continued. "I had a rich relative that gave me a... well it's something you won't believe."

"Money? Jewels? You got my attention." He smirked.

"No... it's the first edition of 'The White Menace' and...." I stammered trying to explain what I read in it.

"A first edition? That must cost a fortune! You're rich buddy!!!!!" Chopper replied gleefully. Unfortunately I could not share his enthusiasm.

"The thing is... when you read how the story was originally written you learn the truth." I replied.

"The truth? What truth??" he asked skeptically.

"Rare White Fur Species are not the enemy. The cub's book was an account of the great war and it warned that the hairless apes were directing their actions. This was leading to trouble between the species and it warned that the white hairless apes should not be allowed to control the other hairless apes.

Somehow it got edited that all rare white fur species are dangerous. That mistranslation has been causing numerous species to be hurt! We need to fix this." I pleaded.

"Fix what?!" He asked indifferently. "We don't even know if that book is real. Plus all hairless apes are extinct so there is no way any could become prophets of their shrewnesses. Seems like a lie to me!" he exclaimed.

"But countless species have been hurt by that mistranslation. We've been hating certain species because of the color of their fur. Doesn't that seem wrong to you? Should everyone that has white fur, like me, be killed because of my white fur?" I asked incredulously.

"Well you're not a real white fur, you just look like one on the outside. See! You know I don't hate all white furs. I have you as a friend so I can't be racist to a fur's color." he replied and I felt my heart breaking. I loved this dog like he was my brother and it hurt the way he talked about me and others that had the same color I did.

"Even though, I guess, I'm not a real white fur." I grumbled softly.

"Just because you look like one doesn't mean you are one." he repeated and the second time it felt like a slap to the face. For the first time I realized that I was only being used because of my fur color.

"Is that all I am to you? A token white bear you can use to fool other rare white fur species so you can murder them?" I asked my voice now full of resentment.

"Why are you so upset? Look, maybe it's been a hard few days. Why don't you take a few off. Go home, have a couple of beers and relax and come back once you get your head straight." he said to med. I nodded silently but I never returned. I simply sent a letter informing him that I was leaving C.I.Z.A.

I began to use the training C.I.Z.A. had given me to find rare white fur species. I wanted to gather us together and create a safe haven to protect those like us from C.I.Z.A. I had been a part of hunting them down and I felt I needed to make up for it. I also remember how the ones I found were lonely and jumped at the chance to find a friend.

I could help build a community to keep us all safe from C.I.Z.A. and the prejudice of the other species. A Safe Place where they can live without fear and follow their dreams. We would be a community of white fur species or The White Community. No rare white fur species would ever feel alone again.

I decided to keep the name 'Bear' as my badge of dishonor and I'd cast it off once I redeemed myswelf for the cxountless species I murdered. For the cubs I killed because I was following a lie! I made some digital copies of the book so I could pass them out and maybe show others that the whole idea was a lie.

I ended up selling almost everything I had to get the money to build up a community for the refugees I planned to gather. I kept the bare necessities that I'd need. I kept some money aside because I knew I'd need some powerful Air conditioners to keep me from getting sick from the heat.

Thanks to the training I had gotten from C.I.Z.A. I knew how to locate rare white fur species and told them my plans to build a home for us all. Some were skeptical and refused to join and others embraced the idea. They sold what they could to help build our home. We found a city that was on the verge of closing and used the money collected from everyone to buy it. We at last had the Whitye Community, or WC as we nicknamed it.

I met a white hedgehog, named Sanic, and he became my right paw man. He may be tiny but he had a brilliant mind and was able to bring order to daily tasks and events.

"So I want to warn the public because we fear tis rogue agent is gathering an army in order to invade. They call themselves 'The White Citadel' and their goals are unknown at this time but we fear that they may be trying to force the prophecy of The White Menace to come to pass." The Doberman said as he addressed a TV News Anchor. Bear was busy in his office that was turned into a freezer just for him.

He had several ACs mounted and running at full blast to keep it cold. They had illegally been stealing power from a local city power plant to keep their community running. Bear sent money to the company but overall no one seemed to notice the theft.

"Do you hear this?" Bearing asked as Sanic was standing on his desk. He stood on Bear's desk wrapped in large, thick oven mitts that were converted into a park for him. He was hopping from foot to foot to keep them warm from the cold surface. Bear extended his paw and Sanic hopped onto it so that Bear could blow some warm air on him and use his fur to shield the little hedgehog from the cold.

"He hates us so much that he would stoop to such a level as to call us The White Citadel just to make species afraid of us. We've done nothing but have been completely respectful yet they still won't leave us alone." Bear complained and Sanic took a breath as a thin white cloud formed briefly from his breath due to the cold.

"A local community has a new star football player. A white lion and a rabbit have become favorites for area. They call themselves 'The White Disaster' which I'm sure is probably a pun, but I don't get it." Sanic said and he smiled as Bear turned his gaze towards him. He was only half listening then it took him a moment for it to register.

"Are they the ones from that community paper you've told me about?" Bear asked.

"Yes sir! Species watching the Little Leagues had noticed them because they made a surprising duo. To think that a rabbit and a lion would ever become friends. Not to mention that the lion is a rare white fur species." Sanic said.

"Interesting," Bear remarked.

"As interesting as the fact the lion has a white tiger for a brother? Seems their parents bought them as slaves then gave them their freedom." Sanic said as he stared deeply at Bear making sure he had his undivided attention.

"What?!" Bear asked incredulously.

"Their parents own The Antler's Conglomerate, the one that makes the best electronics on the planet. Bought them and I guess fell in love and decided to free and adopt them. Their parents are a wolf and a deer," Sanic explained.

"Wait, now I remember the fact that a male wolf had his paw tied to a male deer became a big thing. No one thought a Prey would ever marry a Predator." Bear mused.

"Yeah, the public did not seem to mind the white cubs because they figured they were already crazy or whatever it is you call a crazy rich species."

"Eccentric," Bear corrected. Sanic nodded, then the news cast changed to a new story.

"The White Fox continues his rampage and police are calling in the Furries to help. Last night's robbery was the ninth one since the once thought to be a hero fox reappeared." The newscaster said.

"Something is odd about that fox. I don't mean because he's white but he just doesn't look like a real fox." Bear said as Sanic stared at the screen.

"Seems like a regular fox to me. Maybe you're just tired because you do so much for us. You might wanna rest a bit, relax and recharge before you overtire yourself.

"We need to find and reach out to this fox. Whether he means to or not he is hurting our cause. If he runs around acting like a criminal it reflects on all of us." Bear said.

"As you wish," Sanic said as he bowed slightly and Bear placed him on the floor. "I'll find someone to contact the fox. Sam and Erik might be good to find and contact the lion cub."

"Focus on the fox right now because he's our immediate concern. We can worry about the cubs later...."
