The Chronicles of Love

Chapter Five

I Will Protect You

Kyle grinned as the bell rang, signifying the end of his first period math class. He closed his book, leaving papers with scribbled digits inside. He had always done things like that, and it kept everything right where he knew how to find it. It was an organized mess, but it kept everything neat, and as he stood to leave to his locker, he only needed to carry the textbook. He folded his loosely-hung wings as he stepped into the hall, almost mowing down a panther in the process.

Kyle made his way to his locker with leisure, it was Monday, and he couldn't wait until the end of the day to arrive. He could see it in his mind's eye the final bell ringing. He could see himself meeting his brother just outside the doors, listening to him complain about his fifth period class, and leading his brother to his car where he would grunt about the no-fly law. He almost smiled to himself. His brother was so cute like that, it made Kyle glad that his brother had been born. His brother made him feel complete.

It wasn't uncommon for the hallways to be congested, but the furs were halted in the middle of the corridor, in a circle. They were cheering and whistling, and as Kyle came into earshot and saw a single black wing extend above the heads of the crowd, his heart raced. The chanting of the other students brought a nasty image to his mind, echoed only by the excited hoops, hollers, and the ever-so present "Fight, fight, fight."

Kyle gritted his teeth and pulled his lips back in a snarl. He clenched his fist and ran up to the crowd of bodies that created a wall between him and his brother, and without warning, began breaking down that wall. He grabbed a cheetah first and slung him back by the shoulders onto the ground behind him. The cat glared at him and rejoined the crowd on the far left side. A horse came next, who Kyle had to knee in the balls to make move. He only had to look at the final person blocking his way, a house cat named Tom.

Kyle's fears were confirmed as he saw his brother with blood pouring out of his nose and bruises showing through his fur. It made him angry to see his brother like that, injured by the paws of another, a lion boy who he did not know. Kyle acted without ration, and grabbed the lion by the throat. He slammed the cat against a locker and opened his mouth to scream at him, but the only thing he did was snarl like a feral dragon.

The crowd around him suddenly got quiet and the lion gripped Kyle's paw, desperate to get a finger or two between his throat and the hybrid's crushing paw. Kyle licked his lips, and brought his face closer to the fucking cunt who was hurting his brother. He stared into his eyes with nothing but hatred and disgust and he let out another viscous snarl while he raised the fist made by his left paw.

He let the mighty hammer fall on the cat's boxed muzzle. A loud crack made its way to his ears, and he realized that the world had disappeared. He was alone with the furry bastard, and he jammed his knee into the lion's crotch. He screamed past his crushed airway and fell limp. Kyle hadn't realized that the cunt's color had changed from golden to blue, and with another fit of disgust he released the critter and let him drop to the floor.

The world returned.

He was suddenly yanked back by a strong grip, and he fell into the principal's body. He could see again, and he looked at his arms in time to see teachers release their white-knuckled grip on him. The principal dropped him like a wet towel as he stopped resisting, after realizing he was.

He turned to his right, to find his brother staring right at him. He was beaten and bloody, but at least his muzzle wasn't broken. Bruises showed through his fur, but Roy would be okay. He smiled and hugged his brother.

"Are you alright?" he asked as he stared into Roy's bright green eyes.

"I'm fine...Are you? I've never seen you act like that before. It took three people to pry you off of him." Roy said with a nod towards the passed out lion boy.

"I've never seen me act like that either, Roy. But it does prove something about me."

"What does it prove?" Roy asked.

"I will protect you. Always. I'm sorry I wasn't there in time."

"It's okay, Kyle. I love you too, but...I think we have places to go now." Roy said with another nod, to the three personnel who glared at the two brothers as a fourth checked over the lion, stuck her paw in his pants, gasped.

Kyle put an arm around his younger sibling and followed the principal to her office. He leaned over and snuck a kiss to the beaten hybrid's cheek.

"What were you fighting about?" Kyle asked.

"He could smell you on me, even after I showered this morning...he said something about the bible and hit me. I didn't tell him anything, I swear, I-"

"Shh. Don't worry about it, Kyle. I've got everything handled. You let me talk to the principal, and I'll handle mom and dad."

"Okay." Roy replied. "I'm just...sort of scared now."

"Roy, Roy...Don't worry about anything. I will protect you. No matter what it costs me."
