Chapter 10 - Denial

Location: Adamanta Village - 10 Miles East of Everonth Mountain

There was nothing to say. Diamond and Lance had not spoken to each other since the morning after their unexpected coupling. The two were each deep in thought as they sat in a small diner that was part of Adamanta Village.

Adamanta was a beautiful modern village that was located on the outskirts of the forest. The people here were relatively simple and made their lives by farming and selling their produce to the nearby New Haven Docks which connected to Chentrilla City Island.

They had reached the island just as it was getting to midday. Diamond had been convinced that they might have gotten lost in the forest but to their fortune, they had managed to find a road near the crash that had led them here. Both of them were tired and racked with confusion over the events that had unfolded.

Their mysterious crash from the top of the mountain had left them a little bewildered, obviously something had happened to mountain as the television broadcasting live footage had suggested.

The newsreader, a rather slender female vixen talked about how Everonth had been closed off by police and Phoenix Grace Officials who had suggested that it had been a mining accident. Diamond knew that this was not true at all, why was Phoenix Grace attempting to cover up the truth about Everonth?

Lance just stared up at the corner television and wished so hard that he was somewhere else... with somebody else.

Diamond sat back in the rather uncomfortable booth that seemed so typical of diners in this part of the world. This place obviously did not see many customers beside locals because it was very run down. It put Diamond in mind of a shack out in the middle of nowhere that local hicks came to.

"Can I get you anything sugar?" asked the waitress as she wondered by in her rounds wiping the tables down. Diamond shook his head, he was only here because they had found transport to New Haven and the contact had told them to wait there.

Lance shook his head as well, his eyes looking everywhere but at Diamond's. It was more then the point that they had shared a night of needless passion together. Lance knew that his family and culture would have never had accepted that. He would have been ridiculed and even murdered because the great wolf culture would never allow same-sex relationships.

Ever if Lance felt differently. He had betrayed his people's most ancient and established traditions and turned his back on society, for what? Lust? He criticised himself for even allowing that. He was a disgrace.

The bell over the door let out a small chime as somebody entered into the café. Diamond looked over at the new figure, he was older then both him and Lance by sure. The first thought in Diamond's head was how big that his muscles where. He looked like a body builder. But he had a more interesting feature.

He was a horse.

Diamond felt himself almost burst with the burning of excitement. He still had believed that most of his scattered people died after the purge. He had not seen another horse in years and yet here was one standing right in front of him. He was a well built black stallion with glaring brown eyes but his physique was really impressive. He strode up to them, his massive thighs seemed to pulse underneath his jeans.

He looked down at the table and seemed as amazed to see Diamond as Diamond was to see him. He chuckled.

"So I guess it is true right?" he spoke with a slightly southern accent that seemed appropriate for his size. "You're the guy that wanted a life eh? Greyhame was right about you... your another horse. I ain't seen one for years."

Diamond lifted his head and let out the first genuine smile he had down since the start of all this adventure. He looked over to Lance who seemed to be intrigued by the stallion in front of him as well.

"That's right... I'm Diamond Celestalis" chirped Diamond, almost in a state of disbelief.

"Cor... don't you talk posh lad!" boomed the stallion as he gestured for Lance to budge up see that he could park his bottom on the chair. "So... where you from?"

"Equinus Village" smiled Diamond as the stallion gestured over at the waitress for a beer. "I was just a young teenager when... well you know..."

"Yeah, that was a damn shame" sighed the horse, lighting up a cigarette he retrieved from inside his leather jacket. "I was out of town during the whole thing with oats... I 'eard that you all put up a valiant fight, right to the end."

Diamond stopped, his eyes began to water slightly but he held back the tears and the terror of his past. But he did not feel pride as this new stallion did but a terrible sense of guilt as he looked to one side and quickly changed the subject. "So... erm... what is your name?"

"Aries" replied the horse. He puffed on his cigarette rather harshly as he looked over Diamond, wondering how such a frail frame of a horse could have possibly survived the purge. "So... I'm gonna take you to New Haven right... Who's the wolf?" asked Aries, almost forgetting that he was sitting next to Lance.

"L-Lance... sir" replied the wolf, his muzzle wrinkling slightly as he felt that all the attention was now on him.

"Ignore my co-worker here, he is a little bit nervous sometimes" apologised Diamond which made Lance speak up.

"Di... I'm not...!"

"Lance...SILENCE!" said Diamond, raising his voice which made everyone in the room stare at him with eerie silence. Lance just sat down and crossed his arms.

Why was Diamond always so mean to him and pushing away his friendship?

"Eh... ok" smiled Aries, looking over at the two sensing a very delicate issue. "Well my car is up the road, if you wanna go now, just say"

Diamond nodded. The sooner he could get home to his bed and to Mrs Carmichael's nagging, the sooner he could feel more at ease. Every second with Lance was becoming unbearable.
