#43 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo descends down Jagged Path and arrives in Lavaridge where he does some training for his gym battle

After leaving Fallarbor Town and knowing that Team Rocket would hopefully be causing no future problems for Professor Cozmo. "Come out Swellow!" Swellow appeared gliding through the air before landing before me curious as to why he had been called out when he wasn't battling. "Swellow could you fly me back to Mauville City please?" Swellow immediately agreed and gestured for me to climb aboard and I followed suit. After I was secured on Swellow he looked back at me to ensure that I was properly suited and then flew up into the sky. The sky of Hoenn was far different compared to Kanto and Johto mainly because of the temperature and climate of the Hoenn region, they were so vastly different. After experiencing the heat from Fiery Path and that area, being up in the sky gave me a lovely sense of relief.

Eventually while I was enjoying the sensation of the breeze flowing around me Swellow had landed at Mauville City and I opened my eyes to see Swellow amused as he smirked at me wondering whether he needed to peck his master to awaken him. I thanked Swellow for the flight and he squawked happily in response before I returned him to his Pokeball so he could get some much needed rest. Even though Swellow himself rather enjoyed the flight and would have been up there for many more hours before he would have got tired.

My visit to Mauville City was brief and I headed north and followed the route 111 and 112 until I reached the bottom of Mt Chimney and decided to enter the cable car which brought me to the very top of Mt Chimney where I thought to myself I should have simply stayed in the cool air with Swellow. At the very top of Mt Chimney there were no Pokemon to be found as the habitat was quite uninhabitable for most Pokemon, only the most durable of Fire Types would be able to thrive around lava and magma. Perhaps at one point the legendary Heatran may have made this its home.

I briefly explored the area just to make sure there were no Pokemon to be found and decided to head South down the Jagged Pass which was a very interesting route. One would need to be careful as they traversed the route as there were many ledges and drops around that could be dangerous for most travellers who were unprepared for such harsh terrains. Luckily if I did indeed run into any problems I did have some capable Pokemon that would be able to help me reach the bottom. As I neared the ledges I found some wild Pokemon and happily spotted a wild Spoink a Pokemon I had not yet caught and decided to have a go at catching it.

"I need your help come out Mawile!" Mawile appeared and gnashed his jaws together as a way of showing how powerful he was too the Spoink. Spoink meanwhile bounced up and down and observed Mawile as it prepared to battle. "Mawile use Bite!" With surprising speed Mawile dashed toward Spoink and landed a super effective Bite which greatly weakened Spoink. Mawile released Spoink and I decided to throw a Pokeball at the weakened Spoink. I watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Spoink has been registered to your Pokedex. Spoink the Bounce Pokemon a Psychic Type. It bounces constantly, using its tail like a spring. The shock of bouncing keeps its heart beating."

I had no idea that a Spoink needed to keep bouncing to keep its heart beating and it made me wonder what happened when Spoink fell asleep. Did Spoink bounce in their sleep too? The mysteries of Pokemon were never ending. At that I headed down the Jagged Pass and came across several trainers. The first trainer that challenged me was a Hiker who sent out a Graveler and I sent out my Lombre having him use Bubble Beam defeating Graveler. An Expert battled me sending out a Meditite and I sent out my Pelipper having him use Air Cutter defeating Meditite. The second Pokemon sent out was a Hariyama and I substituted for my newly caught Spoink who managed to defeat the Hariyama using Psybeam.

Heading down a few more levels I was careful with where I stepped. I didn't want to brake my ankle or worse so slow and steady was the best way to travel. Little did I know that practically every one of my Pokemon was on standby and the second I needed assistance they would appear and help me. None of them would allow me to get hurt, even my newly caught Spoink understood that his new trainer showed complete and utter devotion to any and all of his Pokemon. The next trainer sent out a Gulpin and I sent out Spoink once more and he used Psybeam defeating Gulpin.

Next a Fairy Tale Girl challenged me with a Skitty and I sent out my Solrock who used Zen Headbutt which defeated Skitty. The next Pokemon sent out was a Jigglypuff and I substituted for my Lunatone who used Psyshock defeating Jigglypuff as well. Next up was a Picnicker who challenged me with a Gloom and I sent out my Combusken having him use Flame Charge defeating Gloom. The next Pokemons sent out was a Swablu and I substituted for my Manectric having him use Thunder Fang defeating Swablu before it could put Manectric to sleep using Sing. After that victory I continued heading South down the Jagged Pass and eventually reached the bottom and I almost felt like cheering for navigating the extreme terrain and not getting hurt. At the same time I didn't intend on jinxing myself so I kept quiet.

At the bottom of the Jagged Pass I reached Route 112 once more but I headed West and reached Lavaridge Town and headed to the Pokemon Centre to have my Pokemon healed. After that was done I began exploring the town and noticed that the town seemed to rely upon their hot springs. I must admit I felt like heading in and having a nice relaxing time in the hot springs with my Pokemon as well. Perhaps after a training session to make sure I was properly prepared for battling the gym leader Flannery who used Fire Type Pokemon.

At that I headed back to the Jagged Pass to do some intense training with each and every one of my Pokemon when I was stopped by a elderly women. "Excuse me young man. May I borrow you for a moment?" I nodded I wasn't in a rush. "Oh thank you very much. You see I have an egg but I haven't been able to hatch it as of late. I believe this Pokemon will only hatch when surrounded by the warmth of a true Pokemon trainer. Would you please take this egg of my hands?" I accepted and the women gave me the egg. "Thank you very much, I'm certain the Pokemon inside will be very happy under your ownership." At that I carefully kept the egg close to me and began my training session.

First up was my Grovyle and even though Grovyle was training in an area that gave off intense heat and held powerful Fire Types Grovyle showed incredible perseverance and defeated his opponents and getting stronger and faster in the process. Combusken revelled in the heat of the surrounding area only making his moves stronger and making him even more energetic than usual. His pace was almost too hard to keep up with as he danced around the wild Pokemon who battled us. Marshtomp was nowhere near as shy and nervous as he had once been as a Mudkip and had grown into a very capable Marshtomp who battled with such vigour and determination in order to make his new master proud.

Mightyena had been happy to train and spend some time with his beloved trainer, growing stronger after each and every battle. In fact even though they weren't even the same type, well they shared a typing. I could see lots of similarities between Mightyena and Houndoom as both seemed to consider me an alpha and they themselves considered themselves to a beta serving their alpha. I never really saw our relationship in the way that they did. I tried to show that we were completely equal and that really there was no hierarchy like that. Linoone was improving with his power and speed even more than I expected. Now his movement speed was getting comparable to some of my absolutely fastest Pokemon I had owned.

Beautifly and Dustox were training themselves to be able to handle their weakness or Fire Types. The environment was exceptionally difficult for these Bug Types but they showed incredible determination and perseverance to defeat their weakness. Beautifly and Dustox simply wanted nothing more than to make their beloved trainer proud. Lombre was having a good time, since as a Water Type the Fire Types in the area were off no concern to him, his grass typing also helped him get stronger thanks to photosynthesis. Nuzleaf was also enjoying the sunlight but not the Fire Pokemon themselves. Still like the Bug Pokemon he showed great determination to imrpove and show his beloved trainer that he would always do his best.

Swellow had already shown that he was a capable flier when he flew me from Fallarbor Town all the way to Mauville City which wasn't a short distance. The training helped him increase his power and his stamina too allowing him to carry his trainer further afield whenever his trainer desired. Pelipper was in much the same position as Swellow, increasing his stamina for flying, but his Water Typing helped him immensely against the Fire Types that attacked him. When I began training both Kirlia I was beginning to see signs of something that hadn't concerned me but now might be a slight problem. Both were showing signs that they were going to evolve soon and since I didn't have a Dawn Stone at the moment they both may evolve into a Gardevoir.

As much as I didn't want to stop them from evolving I decided the best course of action was to speak to them both and explain the situation. "Kirlia, your both getting close to evolving into a Gardevoir. I wanted to know if any of you wanted to evolve into a Gallade." I showed them both a picture of Gardevoir their natural evolution but by using a stone they could evolve into a Gallade. I once again showed them an image of Gallade. Both Kirlia understood the dilemma I was faced with and immediately began a discussion with one another. Surprisingly, the elder Kirlia who I had assumed would evolve into Gallade, mainly because of his confidence and slightly aggressive attitude in battle. However, he chose to become Gardevoir and I was happy for him.

The younger Kirlia felt like evolving into Gallade would show his beloved trainer that he could protect him like a knight protecting a maiden or a princess in the fairy tales. Of course Kirlia didn't see his master as a dainty princess that needed protecting or rescuing. But still, Kirlia would love to rescue his master as a Gallade if ever the situation arose. Kirlia would never mention this to his elder brother nor his master if he could help it though. Now that the situation had been resolved, I had acquired an Everstone and handed it to the younger Kirlia which for the moment would prevent Kirlia from evolving until I acquired a Dawn Stone.

Kirlia accepted the Everstone and watched as his elder brother began glowing after battling some tough opponents. When the glow faded Kirlia had been replaced by a surprisingly tall Gardevoir who was now slightly taller than me. Gardevoir even had to look down slightly at his master which was strange for him, but a surprisingly amusing sensation. Rotom happily registered the new entry to the Pokedex. "Gardevoir has been registered to your Pokedex. Gardevoir the Embrace Pokemon a Psychic and Fairy Type. To protect its trainer, it will expend all its psychic power to create a small black hole." Gardevoir happily embraced me as his namesake said and I happily returned his embrace.

Masquerain didn't struggle nearly as much as the other Bug Types since Masquerian knew Water moves from when he was a Surskit. As such that helped him grow stronger against his weaknesses. Breloom had enjoyed these vigorous and intense training sessions and much like Combusken did. I assumed it was because of their respective Fighting Type and as such they had to keep training as their bodies demanded it. Vigoroth may not have been a Fighting Type but he was practically as energetic as the Fighting Types were, he pretty much kept me on my toes when we trained together.

Ninjask had been working on his speed and improving it even more and raced with Linoone to keep on improving himself. Meanwhile that speed helped me in battles where he needed to be faster than his opponent. Shedinja on the other hand needed some patience from me, I understood that Shedinja was extremely fragile and couldn't take any super effective attack. However, when in the right circumstances, Shedinja could be an impossible wall to remove.

Loudred was just like Vigoroth, but more than expressing its excitement by its movements, Loudred showed his energy and excitement to make his trainer proud by using his immense voice. Loudred's attacks involved powerful shockwaves that were strong enough to shatter boulders. I could only imagine just how powerful he and his voice would be when he became a Exploud. Hariyama showed a different trend for Fighting Types, yes he always trained extensively, however, he wasn't as fast as Combusken nor Breloom. He still sparred with them though and kept them on their toes.

Nosepass relied upon his defence against opponents and Fire Types couldn't even touch him. They practically bounced right off his rocky body. Still Nosepass wanted to improve his defence even more to show his beloved trainer how much he respected him. Skitty had been a very interesting Pokemon to raise. I spent intervals training Skitty in battles and then playing with Skitty to help him relax. When I showed Skitty that I had recently acquired a Moon Stone from Meteor Falls Skitty grabbed the stone and began glowing.

When the glow faded Skitty had been replaced with a Delcatty. "Delcatty has been registered to your Pokedex. Delcatty the Prim Pokemon a Normal Type. It is highly popular among trainers for its sublime fur. It does not keep a nest." I congratulated Delcatty and immediately began brushing him down as Delcatty began relaxing on my lap. Whenever Sableye was given the opportunity he did try and scare me, but it was never truly malicious only mischievous. I never really managed to get scared after having experiences from Gengar, Sneasel and Mismagius before. In battle though Sableye followed my commands with extreme loyalty.

Mawile was next and even though Mawile had been described as a cunning and devious Pokemon. I was surprised at how kind this Pokemon was too me. More than likely, I had earned Mawile's loyalty during a journey together. Still Mawile trusted me immensely and disproved the Pokedex in my eyes. Aron had been slowly but surely growing stronger over the days. His defence and offence had been increasing to the point it was becoming noticeable. Perhaps it shouldn't have been a surprise when Aron began glowing signalling he was already evolving.

"Lairon has been registered to your Pokedex. Lairon the Iron Armor Pokemon a Rock and Steel Type. For food it digs up iron ore. It smashes its steely body against others to fight for territory." That Pokedex entry sure showed me how aggressive Lairon could be. However, Lairon showed that aggressive side only when battling, when alone with me Lairon loved to settle down and receive a polishing from his beloved trainer. Then there was Manectric and he loved battling and spending time with me. He had been increasing his electrical power to be eve better for me.

Plusle and Minun were always working together wherever they could. Even in single battles, whenever one was battling, the other would be cheering them on and vice versa. The bond between them was adorable to see. Volbeat and Illumise hadn't had much battling experience and that was my fault, though the two Pokemon seemed to be fine with that. Volbeat did occasionally try and impress Illumise with his increased battling skills, but it seemed as though Illumise was uninterested. Volbeat in return decided to instead show off to his beloved trainer and was happy to receive praise for his efforts.

Roselia, being a Grass Type enjoyed the sunshine and the heat given off by the magma far above. In battle, Roselia had been steadily improving and I knew that I had to begin searching at some point for a Shiny Stone which would allow Roselia to evolve into a Roserade a stronger Pokemon. Swalot was dedicated to improving himself everyday since his trainer showed that he loved him even when he evolved. His trainer loved him even though he was a Poison Type and that was what drove Swalot to help his beloved trainer.

Numel may have been levelling up the most thanks to the atmosphere helping him get warmed up and battle ready. Perhaps this boost was what allowed Numel to evolve into Camerupt. "Camerupt has been registered to your Pokedex. Camerupt the Eruption Pokemon a Fire and Ground Type. It has volcanoes on its back. If magma builds up in its body, it shudders then erupts violently." As soon as Rotom finished reading the entry, Camerupt showed the eruption as soon as he evolved. Magma bursting from the humps which resembled volcanoes. I approached cautiously making sure the eruptions had stopped and congratulated Camerupt on evolving. Camerupt happily tackled me to the ground and eventually released me upon remembering his increased size and weight.

Torkoal was much like the newly evolved Camerupt, his power had increased thanks to the atmosphere. His Fire Type moves had been growing stronger as he levelled up as well. Torkoal desired this strength to repay his master for showing him such kindness. Spoink was my newest Pokemon and quite quick at growing strong too. Many trainers desired to rematch against me and Spoink had been greatly enjoying those battles because a majority of those trainers were using Fighting Types. The repeated victories had allowed him to greatly level up and even evolve into a Grumpig.

"Grumpig has been registered to your Pokedex. Grumpig the Manipulate Pokemon a Psychic Type. It uses black pearls to amplify it's psychic power. It does an odd dance to gain control over foes." Grumpig happily bounced over to me and embraced me thanking me for allowing him to evolve. I congratulated him happy for his achievement. Spinda was next and even though he may have looked like some as a rather unassuming Pokemon, he showed people that he was far stronger than they could have previously have thought. Spinda seemed to desire to show that he could be just as strong as any other evolved Pokemon.

Swablu had been enjoying the training, as inbetween battles, Swablu draped himself over my head and rested briefly as my hat. It also allowed him to keep an eye out on threats that could appear from anywhere. Zangoose may still have disliked Seviper but when on his own, he loved battling for his trainer as a way of repaying him for saving him. Zangoose would never admit it, but he had developed a sort of crush like admiration for his master that he wasn't sure whether he should feel that way or not.

Seviper was much the same as Zangoose but never mentioned this to his hated rival. Instead whenever Seviper got the opportunity he wrapped his trainer up in a tight and powerful hug and showed his appreciation the best he could, by getting stronger and helping his trainer catch every Pokemon he could and win every battle he could. Finally there was Lunatone and Solrock and they had been getting along well. In double battles they worked extremely well together. On their own they still performed brilliantly.

After the training session had been completed I headed back to Lavaridge Town and decided before challenging the gym I would head into the hot springs and give my Pokemon some relaxation time. I'm certain they'd appreciate it.
