Hey there! I don't generally post here, and am more active on FA and DA, both of which share my username here, please check them out for more stories.

There are numerous inspirations for this story, mainly coming from two things. Firstly, liminal spaces. I'm a huge fan of these weird moments I'm sure you've had where you are in a public pool or hotel by yourself. It's always peaceful but somewhat strange and sticks out in your mind, leaving you to question if you were really even there. Second, my own personal dreams. These memories tend to tie themselves to my dreams in terms of the architecture and general "off" feeling of everything. These two combined made a perfect backdrop and trigger for this kind of TF. As for why I picked a Brionne... Well lets just say I've been in a water type mood lately, they're way too fun to describe.

If you're still here, thanks for reading! Let me know if you enjoyed down below!

"Alright, see you guys some other time!"

"See ya!"

"Night, Sam!"

Sam hit the "End Call" button, hearing the familiar jingle after his friends spoke their wishes, staying in their mutual Discord server at least for the meantime. He stood up from his chair and stretched a little, his legs stiff from gaming for a few hours straight. As he took off his headphones he took a peek at the bottom right of his taskbar, the time reading 2:38 AM. With a little sigh, Sam turned off his PC, his tiredness hitting him all at once with the silence of his room.

Following his usual routine, Sam brushed his teeth, washed his face, and slipped under the covers. He checked to make sure his alarm was set for tomorrow morning at 7:15, giving him enough time to get to class on time. Once confirmed, he fought the urge to browse social media and clicked his phone off, setting it on his night stand beside him and turning off his light. As soon as he shut his eyes, the combination of his perfectly cool bed and support of his pillow instantly whisked him off to the world of slumber.

Sam's sleep was uneventful at first, and he was out like a light... However, around two hours after he first tucked himself in, he began to have a vivid dream. The hazy nature of a dream's start made it difficult for him to understand what was happening. Like always, his sleeping mind filled in the gaps with whatever it could to keep him going about his course uninterrupted. Sam found himself in what looked to be a changing room, with a duffle bag in front of him. Silver stacks of lockers stretched in a U-shape around him and were mirrored across a small walkway through the middle. The floor was paved with small clean white tiles, smooth and cold to the touch. Above were harsh fluorescent lights that painted the room in a white light, humming with current flowing through them. A few echoes could be heard in the distance, likely from elsewhere in the room. Sam walked forward to the next bay of lockers, his bare feet making a subtle sound on the tile which echoed throughout the room. The room appeared to continue for around five more bays or so, with a door on the right wall at the end of the hallway. The faraway echoes remained distant as he walked towards the door. He turned towards the lockers on his left again, only to be greeted with the sight of his duffle bag once again. The haze around the edges of his vision didn't help as the terminus of the hall seemed to be as far as it was when he started.

"W-wha?" Sam muttered to himself as he unzipped his bag, rummaging around inside of it. He pulled out a purple bathing suit adorned with orange flowers in a Hawaiian pattern. He took off his pants and shirt and slipped on his swim shorts, tying the knot which promptly slipped itself undone as soon as he moved to throw his bag into a locker. He didn't have a lock, but it didn't occur to him that he needed one, plus nobody was around. He took a few heavy steps down the hallway to the door, seemingly able to make progress this time. He opened up the door, which had a metal handle made of nearly opaque frosted glass. The style of the room seemed to subtly shift from the locker area. While the white tiles were retained on all surfaces, the fluorescent light gave way to rectangular patterns of glass tiles on either wall. The let through light with a slightly blue-green quality, tinting the blank hall with an anomalously comforting light. Sam continued down the hall and turned a corner stepping out into a much larger area. To nobody's surprise, it was a shower room. Several showerheads were lined up against the wall, along with a few enclosed stalls across the back wall. Oddly enough, there was a modern television screen underneath a pair of showerheads on the far wall. It glowed with a message that was unintelligible to him. Sam twisted the metal dial with a squeak, releasing a torrent of water on his head... Or at least, that's what he thought. The clear liquid flowed down in a solid beam overtop of him, undisturbed and in perfect laminar flow. He held his hand up, realizing it was dry and that he couldn't feel it on his skin at all.

"I thought I needed to shower before going in the pool..." Sam said out loud in a way that would only make sense in a dream, hearing his voice echo around the room. Unbeknownst to him, his hand started to look a little different than when he entered. His digits started to stick together, merging into a single paw like mass with three digits, still allowing for limited movement and gripping. The tips turned a pure white, fading to a pale blue around his wrists, if they could be called that at this point. Sam idly clicked the soap dispenser beside him, dropping a glob of body wash into his flipper. He rubbed it over his body, only causing the transformation to progress further. More blue skin rushed out from under his flippers and spread asymmetrically around his body originating from where he touched. His shoulders quickly slimmed as his arms followed suit, briefly making them look a little small for the rest of his body. Sam groaned as he leaned back against the wall, the haziness of the dream flickering momentarily. When he looked back down, he saw that his upper body was completely blue, and his swimsuit was suddenly being pulled upwards.

Sam blushed as the mesh of his swimming trunks dissolved, somehow coaxing the material to flow up his body. Part of the purple suit wrapped itself around his chest, stretching and reshaping into a different form but retaining the pattern. Two straps wrapped around his shoulders, securing the top and halting the fabric's movement. It felt a little tight at first, although it began to loosen as his body thinned out. However, to keep his swimsuit perfectly fitting, his chest swelled in response, filling out his swimsuit with a modest bust. He looked down, finally taking note of his changes, his dreaming mind covering up any doubt about what was happening.

"Oh right, gotta wash my legs too..." He whispered as he bent down, rubbing each leg with another dollop of soap. "Weird... I thought my swimsuit was different from this." Sam questioned as he adjusted the fit of his top, ignoring the changes to his legs. Following his upper body, a wave of blue rippled down them, removing the hair from his legs and momentarily stopping at his ankles. His hips began to flare out, stretching the remaining fabric of his shorts, coaxing them into a new shape to better match his top. A band formed around his waist and lower torso, quickly fluffing out into three rings of a wispy white material, fusing onto his skin and disappearing. The rings mimicked a skirt, with the middle one being a slightly darker color than the outer two. A strand of the material weaved into a thin covering, nestling itself underneath those rings, covering his manhood. Similar to his top, it became much too tight, but nature had a way of correcting itself, pushing the fabric flush with his body as he became one of the fairer sex. Sam blushed as he stepped out of the ghostly shower, about to feel what had just happened when the next change sent him tumbling to the floor. Starting with his thighs, his legs began to merge together restricting his movement as they lengthened slightly. He flopped around on the floor, translating to restlessness outside of his dream as more and more of his legs formed his new tail. As the changes reached his ankles, his feet elongated and lost almost all definition, becoming a fluke tipped with white to match the rest of his color scheme.

Sam held his head as he rolled onto his back, unintentionally starting the changing of his head. He panted as his face started to elongate, pulling his nose and mouth out into a pointed muzzle. The tip of his nose turned circular and bright pink, inserting itself in his field of view as he hadn't adjusted to it. His blonde hair grew longer, tumbling down the sides of his face and resting in a much more feminine style just past his shoulders. His eyelashes grew as his facial structure shifted, adding to his new charms. To complete his changes, two matching protrusions of three spheres each flopped out from either side of his head, poking through his longer hair.

At this point, Sam was reaching a point where he was beginning to wake up, becoming more and more restless as the clarity of his dream waned. In both the real world and the dream world, the area around Sam was shifting. The floor began to tip down beneath her, causing him to slip along the wet floor and slide out the hallway where he entered. As he accelerated, he quickly began to realize something was wrong with his body and the environment he was in. Back in the real world, his blanket changed color to a light red as the posters in his room began to change. His wardrobe was replaced with uniforms and sporting outfits, and his beefy desktop computer shrunk until it was a gaming laptop instead. The more Sam slid down, the more his room grew, expanding enough to accommodate another bed and half of the room with its own posters and style. The window on the far edge of the room began to let in more light as the drapes changed and the sun rose. Even the architecture around the room changed, lifting it off the ground and up to the fourth floor of a much larger and unfamiliar building.

Eventually, Sam slid out of the hallway and onto some strange looking mezzanine in a much larger area. Below him was a large pool, larger than any indoor one he had seen before. The smell of chlorine wafted through the air and hit him in the face as he slid by another few walkways, the path steering him towards the water. Strange music played faintly in the distance, droning and echoing through the massive room with no discernable tune. The building was made of harsh concrete and glass, with a large skylight providing light from an unknown source directly above. The pool itself had a few lazy rivers branching off of it, as well as a few large fake palm trees standing guard at each entrance. At this stage, Sam was nearly lucid, in the boundary between dream in reality as he looked down at his body and shouted as he approached a drop.

"W-what the hell is happening? Why am I- Whoa!" Sam shouted as he uselessly slapped his tail against the slide, trying to do anything to slow his descent.

"Why does everything feel so weird! Have to- slow down-!" He dragged his flippers along the edge, causing him to flip onto his stomach, sliding face first into the water below.

"No no nooooo!" He screamed as he flew head first into the water, getting a good look at his shocked new face.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Sam's body was shocked awake by hypnagogic jerk, causing him to twitch with the strange feeling of falling a great height from a dream. His strange dream was already a rapidly fading memory as reality forced itself in front of him once more. He slapped his hand on his phone and turned off his alarm, pulling his phone up close to his face. He was always slow to get up in the morning, so checking his phone for a bit was usually what he did before getting up. He turned it on, the button taking a little bit more force to press through his case. His lock screen greeted him as always did, however his wallpaper was completely different. A group of... very well drawn anthropomorphic Pokemon? They all looked familiar to him though, especially the one holding up the phone to take the selfie. Sam thought to himself about the plausibility of his phone getting hacked, but there was no way someone could change his lock screen. The more pressing concern was his legs though. His lower body still felt numb despite the rest of him being awake. He threw the blankets off of himself, sitting up in his bed and looking around. Suddenly the memories of his strange night all came flooding back to him...

"What. Wait... I'm still sleeping right?" Sam muttered, looking down his shirt and then moving his tail, blinking rapidly. He looked around the rest of the room, seeing something that looked more like a large dorm than his room at home.

"Wait, where the hell am I? And why am I a weird seal girl!?" She shouted, taking note of her new gender and species. She quickly grabbed her phone and started to look at her social media, freaking out as she saw all of her photos replaced with the new version of her.

"Sam! Quiet down will you, I have a spare this morning..." A voice groggily mumbled from the bed beside her. Sam didn't notice however, and was still freaking out over her body.

"Sam! Saaaam! EARTH TO SAMANTHA!" The voice shouted back, throwing a pillow that hit Sam square in the face.

"Oww! What was that for!" Sam tossed it back at the lump in the bed, only for a wing to swat it away.

"Look, I get that you're great at being loud and all, but not everyone is an early bird, jeez." The lump responded, sitting up and revealing themselves to be a Pidgeotto girl with a serious case of bedhead.

"Wait but- Why are you a bird? Who are-?" Sam stuttered, pulling the edge of her pajama shirt.

"Right, I guess I kinda skipped out on orientation yesterday... I'm Amelia, your roommate. Parents sent me to this fancy ass boarding school for some reason." She said, rolling her eyes. "Come to think of it, I didn't see you anywhere else either... Eh, whatever, they'll fill you in." Amelia slumped back into bed and threw the covers back over her.

"W-well alright... See you at lunch then?" Sam eeked out as she still tried to process everything, looking at the schedule in her phone for more info.

"Hopefully I can find someone to help me out..." She sighed as she put her phone on the night table and grabbed one of her new uniforms.

Sam slipped off her t-shirt and curiously looked at her uniform. It was quite plain, with a clean white shirt and an green skirt. The skirt slid onto her tail simply enough, but the top required a lot fussing, especially getting it to fit right around her chest. Once she was all dressed, she spotted her backpack leaned up against her desk, identical in look to one she remembered packing last night. She grabbed it and slid forward to the washroom, dragging it to the door. Moving around was quite difficult as she wasn't used to her new tail, not to mention her movement was severely limited outside of the water. Sam hopped up onto a stool in the bathroom and flicked on the lights, staring at herself in the mirror. She made a few weird faces to test out her new looks and adjusted her clothes, mentally preparing herself for her first day at an unfamiliar new school.

"Well, the least I can hope for is that my friends are somehow here too... Heh, I wonder what they look like." Sam said to comfort herself, picking up her backpack and swinging open the door, ready for a new day.
