#2 of Furry Dreams

A Furry Story

Written by: Ashura L. Kusanaga

[Author's Note: I had a vivid dream, and this story is the dream, and then some. Bare with me, that this is probably not going to be my best story I have written.]

After eating breakfast, and thanking Kacey for a night's stay, my father got us all in the car, and we took off towards our new home. I waved goodbye one last time, before dealing with my space mongering twin sisters.

After fifteen minutes of travel, the rain cleared up, and we rode through a town. As we went through the town, I noticed a few things: The town itself was somewhat built on a slope; there weren't any Furries as far as I could tell or see; lastly, the townsfolk that saw our pack, stared in disbelief and wonder. My guess is that they have never seen a Furry... or at least, a Lion Furry.

We went down a hill down towards the waterfront, passed several houses, and turned left into a driveway. Our pack got out of the car, and while my father shut it off, we took a good look at the house, while the neighbors looked at us. The house was painted white... and peeling in some places. It was in need of some more paint in those places. Aside from the paint, the house was a second story house, and long at that.

"What do you think, kids?" our father asked shutting his door. The cubs didn't care as they had already decided to head on in. My mother sighed and smiled at this.

"Well, Kait and Abby like it, they're already going in" she said looking at her partner.

"What about you, Ash?" he asked. I frowned a little, then faked a smile.

"It's okay..." I replied, rubbing the back of my red spiky haired head. My parents hadn't noticed my disappointment, fortunately, as they went to fetch my siblings.

I already missed our old town, even though nobody liked us, or understood our pack. I had friends there... kind of. The was a farm near by our old house. I had fun playing with and running around with the farm animals... at least until I was "shooed" away by the farmer's wife.

A stray tear slid down my orange cheek fur, as I remembered all the times I had "fun" growing up, dispite our surroundings. I failed to "chalk this one down" in my mind as town number three.

Our first town wasn't really a town, as it was more of a village. But as part of ritual, my parents left with a newborn me and a pregnant mother with the still growing Fiona. I don't remember much of that, other than what my mother has told me.

After getting everything settled in, and finding and deciding rooms- the twin cubs practically claimed every room for themselves until our parents told them otherwise -we finally began signing papers. This reality person was nice to us, dispite our physical differences. Perhaps the person had to fake being nice, like I faked my smile earlier.

"Ashura?" my mother called up to my room. I got up and out of bed and went down stairs. I had been resting after all of the moving and papers; I was letting my mind wander.

"Yeah, mom?" I asked.

"Honey, could you watch your sisters while your father and I go shopping? I'm going to get some food, then your father is going to get some paint for the inside and outside walls, okay?" she explained.

"Sure." I smiled. Watching my sisters was easy. All I'd have to do is turn on the TV, and turn it onto PBS. Hopefully "Barney" would be on. For some reason, the twins liked watching the male human in a scaly fursuit, or scalesuit, teaching little human kids about simple things like manners and the alphabet.

"Thanks, sweetie."

While Kait and Abby watched the purple scaly, I went outside onto the porch, and sat in one of the white metal weave chairs at the white metal weave table. I could still see the twins, so I was good to go. I simply let my mind wander again, as I stared out at the riverside. Thankfully the parents had set up our "kitty pool". The Summer hotness was beginning to bug the twins at the same time the "Barney Show" was over.

"Can we go swimming, Ashura?" Abby asked, while Kait absent-mindedly sucked on her thumb.

"Sure, just get into your swimming suits, and you can" I smiled. Both of them "yayed" and went inside to change. Not but a few minutes later, they came back out, and played in the pool.

The heat was kind of peaceful in the shade of the table's umbrella. I soon began to feel like taking a snooze. But I couldn't really catnap while watching the cubs. So I settled for deeply relaxing in the chair.

After about ten or so minutes of the twins playing in the water. I saw three someones out of the corner of my eye. Three humans.

This grabbed my attention like nothing else, and my eyes went from half-lidded to open almost wide. Two of the humans were about the twins ages, and were male and female, both with sandy blond hair. The third human was a female that looked about my age, with auburn hair, kind of like my own. She had two crutches, and a hurt left ankle it looked.

As soon as the twins also noticed, the humans were at an uncomfortable distance.

"Can I help you?" I asked gruffly but nicely to the oldest of them.

"Could these two possibly join those two?" the eldest girl asked in kind. And that her voice and demeanor were. They were... nice. And this caught me by surprise.

I blinked a few times, before I said anything. The four young ones looked uncertain of what to make of the other twins.

"S-sure..." I said to the eldest... and I said it much nicer than before. The two sets of twins smiled briefly and began to play in the water as though they have been friends for ages. The auburn haired girl smiled and gave a brief chuckle, and hobbled over to a chair. I snapped out of it and pulled out another chair for her hurt ankle.

"Thanks again" she smiled more. There was something about her that was different, besides the fact that she didn't fear us or hate us.

"Sam" she said.

"Come again?" I said.

"My name is Samantha, but my friends call me Sam."

"Ash... my name is Ashura Kusanaga."

"My last name is Hemsley."

She held out her hand for me to shake, which I gladly accepted. I felt relief wash over me, and not because of... our hand... our paw... hand-paw shake, but because of something else. Her complete polar opposite feelings. Normally, humans would never approach, let alone talk to a Furry. But Sam was different. Sam had not only good tastes, but she seemed she would not judge me or my pack as Furries, well at least as Furries, but not as monsters.

For the rest of the afternoon, Sam and I talked deeply; mostly about myself, and her "strange" interest in us.

"What do you mean by 'strange', Sam?" I asked. she looked down, smiled, and looked back up at me, at my eyes.

"My friends say that my animal interest is obsessive" she said smirking.

"So?"

"Well, they say weird because... they don't think Furries exist outside of the Internet."

"Some don't, Sam... like the fursonas based on mythical animals." I laughed after this. And she joined in.

"Like Dragons?" she inquired.

"Sure" I shrugged smiling.

Sam and I became good friends after this meeting. For the next two weeks, Sam and I met in secret. And all we did is talk. The twins never talked about Sam to our parents, as they liked playing with the other twins and didn't want to get our parents suspiscous. But then it happened... Two weeks after Sam's first visit. My father announced something.

"We're low on money, Darla" My father whispered at the table, while we were having lunch. I looked up. The twins didn't hear him. They wouldn't understand anyways.

"What do you mean, James?" she asked him. They noticed that I heard them, but didn't care as I was the oldest and most responsible cub.

"I haven't found a job yet, and we are runnning low on money... I fear for our pack, especially the young ones."

"I could look for a job as well, dear." My mother put one of her paws on one of my father's paws. He regarded her for a second.

"No... you couldn't... we both couldn't work and leave poor Ash to tend to the cubs" my father said while frowning.

I couldn't think of anything to say. Not that it wasn't my place to say something, I was just speechless.

After the meal, I offered to wash the dishes, and while doing them, I spoke to my mother who usually does them.

"Mom?" I said, my voice cracked from not talking for a while.

"Hmm? What is it, Ashura?" she said handing me a plate to dry. I took it, and said what was on my mind.

"I could watch Kait and Abby while you and father go and work, I don't mind" I said. I set the plate down in the drying rack after drying it off, taking another dish to dry.

"Ash, honey... your father is right about my not working... and plus I don't want to make you work harder than you already do."

"True, I did scrape off the old paint, and paint over all of the sides of the house."

"And in only three whole days, no less."

To be honest, Sam had helped me, but I didn't want to mention her presence.

"I want you to be able to try and have a n-normal... life" my mother began crying. I set down the current dish, and wrapped my arms around her.

"Don't cry, mom... I'll have a normal life, just like Fiona" I reassured her after a minute of her crying. She still was crying, and gripping my shirt, but at least she had faith in my words.

"I have money, Ash" Sam said to me in private later that week. I told her everything beforehand, that my father had said. I blinked several times, before saying anything.

"How much?" I asked. This could be an answer to our pack's problems.

"I have seventy-five dollars or so saved up from some birthdays and other things" she smiled. I closed my mouth before she noticed. I was in shock. Never had anyone, even other Furries given us or me money.

"Samantha, that would be perfect!" I said hugging her and beginning to purr without thinking. She willingly returned my hug, and went to get her money.
