Chapter Two: The Capture It had been close to a week now, my food I had packed had long since been gone, I had to hunt now which was not to hard; but at times I would have to eat left over's from other creatures of the forest. Markings of dragons could be seen all around here, rocks melted, three scrapped from making their nails sharper. My arms were becoming weaker from the lack of food; since I couldn't find anything the closer I got to where a dragon was to be. Maybe these dragons knew I was coming and somehow with their small brains cleaned up hoping I would give up and look somewhere else; but I knew they were here. Looking up I saw that night was coming closer and gave a sigh, day eight was here and no dragon; so I would call this one a night and set up camp. A fire burned before me as I brought my rolling bed out and laid down on it, looking up though the trees I saw that it was a clear night, stars brightly lit looking down at me. I closed m eyes for a fraction of a second and opened them. "Good even stars," I told them looking at the ones I could see. "It had been a while hasn't it?" they didn't answer back but I didn't care. Before meeting Lenna I would talk to the stars to tell them my hope and dreams. "I had that dream again you know," I want on as I closed my eyes. "About me as a dragon; walking in this forest around here. Though I couldn't see the dragon that was my mother, I could hear her, telling me to be careful...but." I sigh. "My dragon self didn't listen and went to a river and saw father...slaying me, what do you think it means?" again they didn't answer. I imaged them saying that my father was an evil man and prayed that I would never be like him. "But it is the only way to bound with Lenna stars," I complained. "I love her, isn't that enough?" they almost yelled back at me as I cringed. "True," I answered. "Oh well, it was good talking to you again stars; may you watch over me?" they gave me their word as I turned to my side and closed my eyes; slowly falling asleep. I woke up later that night to the sound of growling, sitting upright I took my sword which had become lighter the more I held it and stood up damping the fire out making my surroundings dark. The trees around me creaked and groaned as a shadow slowly crippled behind them. I followed the shadow, knowing by that size it was the dragon I was looking for, no doubt the mother of the dragon my father killed. I followed with my eyes and head slowly as I moved with it, watching. The moon light shot though a cloud and I jumped away from the light, I was not about to be blinded by the moon so that this beast could kill me! But I was slow. The moon light hit me as I covered my face, and the dragon sprung. I heard the roar and rolled out of the way to get hit in the gut by its tail sending me toward a tree, the sword rolled down the hell leaving me defenceless. I had the shield beside me as I held it up, pulling my dagger out. My arm was shaking as the dragon turned to me with gold eyes, its lips pulled back as a snarl rippled though its jaws sending chills down my back. It took a step forward and me back. Another step forward, and again, I went back. Down the hill, each step it took, I took one back, keeping a good distance away from each other. I felt the sword handle hit my heel as I smiled. It growled as if knowing I was smiling. Kneeling so fast I turned around and picked the blade up and turned back around to attack, but it was gone. No trails to where...but gone. I was about to laugh when I felt the breath of it on my neck. I stood straight and gulped. I felt it sniff me once, then again but this one was longer; great it was seeing if I was good enough to eat. I felt its paw push me on my gut as I cried out in pain. It snapped by my right ear, as if warning me not to move or make a sound. I clutched my fist to the ground as it started to sniff me again. It sniffed my blue and white tonic and while pants then my hair. Then at last it flipped me on to my back so I could get my first good look at the dragon. Two horns pushed to the side of its face while its red scales shone from the moon light, gold eyes on my as its wings were tucked to its side. It sniffed at me face as I turned away, this time it didn't growl but went back to sniffing; as if looking for something. It brought it paw up and showed me a single claw nail and brought it to my chest, it was going to cut me open! I tried to struggle, but it held me down harder with its paw causing me to gasp out. It brought its nail under the neck of my shirt and dragged it down; ripping the shirt Lenna had given me last year. The cold air hit my chest as I heard something like a gasp come from the dragon. I looked down and only saw the mark of a dragon clutched up to it, my birthmark. It lent down more then I saw something in its eye, it looked like a tear as it looked back to me and moved closer. I shut my eye but I didn't feel teeth, but its tongue. I opened my eyes as I saw it lick the dirt off my face from when I fell, then my chest which was also dirty then moved away and sat in front of me as I sat up as I wiped the slime off; it...cleaned me? Looking at the dragon I saw that it also had a yellow underbelly and a long tail; the tip more like a sword. "Well...err..." I stood up as it watched with its eye. "Thanks for the clean, but I think I'll be going." I took my bag as it watched as I switched to a white shirt and put the ripped one in; I was going to get it repaired before going back to Lenna. But as soon as I brought the bag on I was lifted into the air. Looking behind I saw that the dragon had my bag in its mouth with me still on it as it began to walk toward the clearing I was just at, y sword and shield now long gone. "Hey!" I cried struggling. "Let me go!" it growled as I glared. "Growl all you want, but put me down or I'll put my foot to you!" it growled again and bent down so close I almost touched the ground. I thought it would let me go, but then it lunched itself in the air with me still in its mouth. I screamed as I held onto my bag, it flew in the air with speed and grace as it flipped and span. I almost threw up, and since I didn't...I pass out. I woke up to the feeling this time of something dripping on my face, blinking a few times to see water dropping from above a cave crack. I sat up and shook my head as I groaned. The sound of claws hitting the ground was heard as I stood up and looked around; I was trapped. The red dragon came in with a deer in its mouth; it looked at me and came up toward me as I backed to the wall. It stopped then brought its head closer to me and dropped the dead deer in front of me, nudging it to me with its nose as it sat in front of me. I looked to it, then the dead deer again. "You don't think I'm going to eat that do you?" it gave me my answer as it ripped the leg off and dropped it in front of me. I blinked and looked away as it poked my arm with its nose. "And don't touch me!" it shot away as if by shock. "You want to fating me up so you can eat me? Forget it! Just kill me and get it over with!" it titled its head and made a weird sound like a cat would as I looked away sitting down. It moved by my side and was about to wrap its wing around me to hold me close when I punched it side as hard as I could. It yelped and looked down at me with confusion. "Stay away from me you beast!" it shot back again and stood up making a weird sound like a hiccup as it left to a cave room. I frowned then looked around, finding light at the end of a tunnel, jumping up I ran toward the light but skidded to a stop. I was looking at hundred of mountains tops. My jaw dropped, I knew these mountains, they were almost a three day walk to where I was last at with the dragon, and maybe this dragon flew so fast in the wee hours I was knocked out that it made the trip fast. But why did it bring me here, and in some way, it felt like I knew this place. Looking down I saw that the side of the great rock which I stood was so smooth that if I even tried to go down I would slide down, and maybe crash every bone in my body in the progress. I gulped as I backed away, bringing my hand to the stone wall, and so something that caught my eye; a drawing. It looked more like a growth chart for a dragon that was here, a baby dragon. I saw that there were about fifty two drawings, one of every week. It seemed like it showed the growth of the dragon, I didn't understand it, but as I looked down and saw what looked to be dragon runes; something happened. The words that only a dragon could understand, was becoming readable to me! The first picture told me of the red dragon giving birth to the blue and white egg, so I now knew that this was a female dragon that took me. As I read it said that they couldn't name the dragon until its first birthday, and I saw at the top one, that it was the day I was born; my father killed this dragon son. So maybe that's why the dragon took me, it was going to kill me; an eye for an eye. As I read the drawings to me that the baby dragon liked to see everything and held the same scales as his father. I became transfixed on the drawings that I began to read them carefully, wanting to know what this baby name was if they choose. At last, I was at the end and I read what the father put in this time. I watched as my son died by the blade of this human, I was proud that my son, my one and only son gave this killer a fitting wound that any young dragon can swell with pride. My mate cried beside me as I bowed my head and bathed our son, our proof of our love to each other; with my fire. I stopped reading to bow my head as well, to burn own son must have met something to the dragons, my fist clutched as I thought how could my father do this. As soon as I was done cursing his name, I went back to reading. I roared loudly in the sky, praying to the dragon goddess to reborn my son, and bring him back to us, in any form I wouldn't care, I just wanted to see his blue eyes again, to hold him in my wings and teach him the way of the world. And with this last drawing of my son short life, I still pray, that my son will come back with the name of my father. My son's name is... my jaw dropped as I took a step back with my eyes widened with shock and unbelief. The dragon name, the name that the dragon gave him...was Greydor.
